How to open Hero back cover?

Hi all,
it may sounds stupid but am unable to open this Hero back cover...
it took me about 2 hours so far.... zzz still cant open it
any advice?

I wouldnt post here if i didnt read the manual
after i Google up i've found out that Hero is quite tricky to be opened for the 1st time zzz

Yeah, when I first pulled it out of the box, it took a bit of force to get the cover off the first time. After that, it pops off easily though. Just pull from the notch at the top.

I had this issue yesterday - trying to use the notch at teh top - it works better if you pull from where the volume jogger is.
(At least in my opinion....)

what i do to open it every single time is to use the tip of my index finger and place it in the gap on the top and do and inward clenching motion. always works.

Melt it off? I hear you need quite a big flame - the bigger the better!

i tend to use a crowbar the bigger the better i remember struggling the first time got the wife to do it for me not a lot of patience from me

I'd use corosive acid, not too strong and then it should be rather fragile.
On the topic: yea, in the beginning it takes rather some force..
Later when you're flashing/pulling battery a lot it'll pop off TOO easy
the finger on top and pull away from screen works best in my opinion, cracks do sound scary.
When in doubt: use more force(let's not use fire just yet).

[Q] Typing on the keyboard while laying on my bed with the DZ in front/above my head?

Im wondering if, because of the hinge, can I put the HTC Desire Z in front of me, while I look upwards at the ceiling with me seeing what on the screen...
A (bad ) drawing example is included.
Some sites say that it cant be done but they havent tried it as I havent read anything with personal expirence with this issue and this is pretty important to me. Thanks.

I am able to, but I know others who aren't.
it helps that when I hold my phone to type on the physical keyboard, my index fingers naturally wrap around the screen, which holds it in place... but even if I intentionally move my index fingers so that there is nothing hindering the screen from moving by itself, it does stay up. if I give the phone a slight wiggle, it will pop down though.
again, I believe with these phones it just varies from device to device... the hinge threads I've read have been all over the place.

Ditto for me too.
It fine the week I got it but after a month of use it's loose and I also jsut hold it inplace

To answer, though, I hardly manage to type like this, because the device tends to close. You can hold it with your thumbs, though.

the accepted fix involves modifying the spring that opens/closes the hinge. there are several threads floating around with the process... note that it does void your warranty, however (you have to partially disassemble the phone). for me, the hinge hasn't been a huge nuisance anyway. yeah, it's loose... so what? you learn and adapt your "methods" to work around it as you use the phone. it has never caused a serious problem for me.
I would like to add that over time I have noticed it does loosen (noticably, but not so much that it has been a problem for me) more and more.. which makes sense because the spring is being compressed and relieved repeatedly.

Obviously, your needs arent the same as mine. You say "so what?" if the screen closes and Id like it to stay open.
Could you please post some links to those threads? Id like to see if the process is difficult.

I rarely use the phone laying on my back, but when I do I move my hands a little bit higher on the keyboard and push my index fingers inwards toward each other slightly so that they are touching the device where the screen meets the keyboard. Holds it in place just fine, no need to modify the springs.

I think you misunderstood (I didn't word that very well - apologies). I'm not saying it's not an issue, it is an issue.
but, as I and a couple others have posted here, there is a remedy: positioning your index fingers such that they hold the screen if you are one of the unlucky ones who gets a hinge that is so sloppy that it falls at whim. on my G2, I don't even have to do this, but I do it naturally so it's added security that the screen isn't going to slam shut.
there's no such thing as a perfect phone. but as far as android phones with keyboards go, you're not going to do much better than the DZ/G2 at this point.. that is a fact.

Just as a update: I can use my phone perfectly without applying any fix about using it for about 3-4 months. There is no issue at all.

That bed is too small. Your legs are hanging off that would drive me crazy.

xperia x10 freezes, hangs upon pressure or bending, also USB connection problem

Hello all,
My X10 has a few strange problems regarding freezes and reboots, and also problems with USB connections.
When my I applie pressure to my phone, it reboots. This also happens when I slightly bend my phone. It's a strange problem and I think (almost know for sure) it's hardware related because it happens in two custom roms (freexperia beta 4 by Zdzihu, and Achotjan_Froyo_2.2.1) and also in xrecovery.
The other problem I have has to do with my USB connection.
When i connect my phone to my pc. there is no notification and it doesn't connect to my PC. in contrast to other x10's that have USB connection problems (I've searched other threads) charging is still completely normal.
That's why I think the USB connection is software related
I was wondering if somebody has something usefull to say about either one of the issues, thats why I'm posting.
So if anyone has any idea feel free to post

Don't bend it?

It sounds like a bad or lose connection some where on the motherboard. Has your phone had any hard impacts?

I'm not really bending my phone but "trying to bend it"or pressure lets it reboot. this would indeed be not really much of a problem, just don't bend or apply pressure. The problem however is that when I put it in my pocket, the same kind of forces (bending, pressure) will work on it and it'll reboot. this is pretty annoying because each time you'll get your phone out of your pocket it's rebooted or it still hangs.

Well yes it has, a car drove over it once but that's was more then a year ago, and it's fallen quite hard sometimes. I've opened it up however, and nothing is visible wrong (loose connections etc.)

You should have mentioned these in the OP.
It's a miracle the phone works!!!
Of course something might be messed up inside
and probably not in a visible to the naked eye way.
If you want to hold on to the phone, maybe buy a hard case,
that will keep the pressure to minimum while in your pocket!

Probably a loose capacitor or resistor...

I'll agree with My_Immortal on that one. A hard case might help you in you situtation. But mate let me say this. From the injuries that your x10 has been through it's a miracle it still works!
Imho you should take better care of your stuff , it's a smartphone for God's shake not a buldozer!

Well yes it has, a car drove over it once but that's was more then a year ago, and it's fallen quite hard sometimes. I've opened it up however, and nothing is visible wrong (loose connections etc.)

But why I haven't is because it happened more than a year before these problems started. the bending, pressure problem started quite suddenly out of nowhere, and thus might not be related
(I also think the car didn't do that much damage, my phone lay flat on the road, and the car drove pretty fast (around 50 kph) so the car was actually on the phone for a very short time: less than 9 micro seconds .)
I've started this thread mainly because I thought maybe someone had heard about these kind of problems before and knew something about it.

I understand that the car incident was a year ago,
but in my opinion, it's very hard NOT to relate it with your issues.
Of course, there is always the possibility that it has nothing to do with them,

should open it and test across the components to see where the drop in voltage occurs, probably a simple resoldering would do the trick!!

[Q] Battery cover removal/reinstall rating

Guys,
As the needs for extra juice without "downgrading" features, with preference to maintain slim profile for the handset, looks like an additional battery is a must.
Coming from Streak, the flimsy battery cover design for Note is new to me. It seems that it had exactly the same design as SGS 2, which I never owns. Streak's battery cover is made of metal, and if done carefully, battery cover removal/reinstallation in daily basis won't harm it.
Any ideas on Note's battery cover?

not very difficult to remove. i just yank out the stylus and use the little corners there to get a few clicks off, then i just take it off from there.

the covers are very cheap anyways.

WHO-EVER says anything/comments about the SGS2 or Note's back cover I will just reply with that video. Just the link. Nothing more.
On a second thought I might even drop a line, like: "It might be cheap, but it's more durable than many phones as a whole."

Why do you think you need an extended battery on this phone?
I can use mine for two days of solid use without it dying.

I have both devices. The back plate will wear well.
Removal is easy on both, but reattaching is easier on the Note. You have to start at the bottom and work your way up to get all the fasteners to click properly. I've needed to remove it and restart on occasion with the SGSII. Not a huge deal but with the note, you can just put it in place and start mashing it down. No worries.

That would be very hard to do. The fasteners are on the plate, not the phone itself.
If you were to mangle something, you'd bend or crease a fastener. You could bend it back, or more severely, cut it off. There are enough fasteners where you could afford to loose one with minimal problems.

I always get the display to be the highest battery drain on my usage. It's almost 2-4 times of other components like Android OS, etc. So I'm not sure how I'm going to get longer uptime unless I stop using the screen -- which is the reason I bought it at the first place

Nothing is impossible - opening the HTC One. Now with video!

After a trip to a shower my HTC One was declared dead (boot loop even after rice, humidity remover, heat, and others) I figured I would open the phone even it it meant that I could destroy it. It turns out that all you really need is patience and tools already available. Sure, I did bent the upper cover but, hey, everything else is intact.
I started by removing the volume button and started using those "guitar picks" around going down. Added some heat to unset the glue and moving slowly I started prying open the right side (when you are looking at the lcd). Than continued moving down until the left side was stuck. After that I went high on the volume button to set the whole right side open.
Now I'm using the other tool (the one that looks like a lever?) I started opening the left side. This side was a lot harder so I applied heat again. After that the glue wasn't an issue and it started to open nicely. Now I have the phone open and I'll see if I can get it working again.
Sorry for the English. I'm too excited to correct the mistakes and I'm not from an English speaking country.
Edit: added tools pictures.
The guitar picks were used to start opening the phone. The green and blue tool were used to open the left/top/bottom sides. The light blue tool was used mostly as a lever on the right side that was already open.

Overall experience while opening the HTC One (compared to the iPad 2/iPhone 3G/S/4S/iPod touch 5th/Motorola Atrix/Transformer Prime) I would give it a 4. The iPad being a 2 (almost impossible to open without a heat source and nearly impossible to mount a new glass without issues).

After dropping my an old phone in the toilet (Before I went ) never again. My phone is barred from the bathroom unless its in my pocket. I guess the OP wanted to have some alone time with his phone.........................

Phone is back. 100% working again. After opening it up I used a hairdryer on the "on/off" switch, left it open to cool down. After an hour I left it charging and left it there. It wasn't boot looping anymore and it turned on.

But it is the same phone? how did you repare the top right corner of the screen that was completely off centered?

Same phone. I just glued it back to position with a superglue (superbonder is the trademark I've used). Used a toothpick to smear it gently and used some phone books to keep things in place. The top aluminum part was bent but the superglue is now holding it.
About the video, I'm not sure I'm willing to open it again. It would be awesome tho..

I have read that under the speaker grills there are screws holding it together.. did you encounter these screws?

Found no screws. It's stuck together in one piece by some clips on the white border only. It's also glued around the same white border.
Follow-up: The phone is still working fine but not charging anymore. I'll wait to open it again later, in about two days or so, and than I'll video the process to see if there's something wrong. Hopefully it's fixable. And I hope I can open it without issues just like the first time. If it doesn't charge I'll see if I can get a new charging port (maybe the water did some damage by rusting the contacts of the port).

It seems that the phone is playing tricks on me. It's charging today.. Go figure..

Could be the water damage. I read where people with different phones talked about the phone acting weird like it just stop charging or the screen won't come on. That would come and go without warning. Remember my father in law damaged a phone once when he was a truck driver and delivering his load in to a walk in freezer. He made many trips in and out and I guess from the extreme cold to heat made it condensate inside the phone. Where are the water damage labels on the phone beings you had it open?

Double post.

Water labels are intact and since htc left Brazil we don't have an authorized to fix it so I opened it and saw that there is no water indicator in red. The water damage sticker is below the flash. Look at the pictures and you'll see a white sticker below the flash and another close to the usb port on the lower side of the phone. Not sure if the second one is a water damage indicator..
I'll keep using the phone till I get some alone time to open it. Tho I'm worried that I might break the phone this time (since it's working again - for no apparent reason).

So, yeah, there's an issue with the charging. Not sure if it's the port or the phone. Tested different chargers and it won't charge while it's on nor when it's off. After a day off it charged (yesterday) but now it won't charge. This sux. I have to find out what's going on. So, yes, I'll have to open it again. I can't have a phone that will be used to drive using gps all day behaving it like that. Phones won't last 4 hours on battery alone while using gps.

Sorry for the double/triple post, but it's the best way to keep everyone informed..
