I like the thought, but
The only thing that's going to get through to them is their pocketbook. If noone buys in or leaves them high and dry then they'll change! Until then the're gonna keep trying to make the most profit they can with minimal overhead(which is the way of every company in the world some worse than others)!

Yep, and the more we yell about it, the better.

Yelling, or threatening, at AT&T isn't going to do any good. If customers left in droves, then yes, AT&T would feel it in their pocketbooks and take action. However, the likelihood of that actually happening is tiny, and not in the numbers necessary to get the point across.
However, what CAN hurt AT&T is bad press. They already suffer from a poor consumer image. I posted over at androidforums.com (I can't post links yet but it's "Twitter hashtag to protest..." in the Atrix 4G forum) about protesting the price. If all of a sudden there was a single, unified twitter hashtag (@'ed at @ATT of course) that reprehended AT&T for their greed then that would garner their attention. Especially if within that tweet we let it be known that what they did is specifically why we're not getting the Atrix.
As lame as it is, a trending hashtag can be a big thing in the eyes of P.R.

The Atrix for $200 w/ two year is reasonable. $500 for the laptop dock is ridiculous. The Atrix for $200 and the laptop dock for $300 w/ 2gb plan and tethering is simply absurd.
I was thinking of staying with AT&T when the Atrix was announced at CES, but I may be looking to switch to Verizon now and picking up the Bionic.
Poor move A...T$T, poor move.See More

That's what I posted on their Facebook page. I'm not the only one sharing my opinion on the matter.
Who knows if the person running the page will actually pass it on to higher-ups.

In a roundabot way, yes, I disagreed with you while agreeing with you.
I think if everyone yells their own random thing at AT&T and makes their own random hashtags then it will just be lots of white noise.
If there's a sense of organization and unity, easily brought about by an emerging "Trending Topic" (thru hashtags), then I think AT&T will be a lot more receptive to hearing it. But yeah, we're on the same side here. Sorry if I came off as dissenting--I didn't mean to.
Does anyone have any good ideas for a hashtag?

buy-buy, a good portion of customers.
buh-bye, Atrix.
I see this turning into the next x10.

this morning at wing bowl I stumbled into the stadium and saw an at&t booth by the door. i walked over and started yelling at them about how the dock pricing was bull**** and stuff. i remember it becoming a decent convo with one of the reps there, but it may have just been me drunkenly yelling at the dude, idk.
either way, i literally yelled at at&t about the dock pricing.
oh and i asked if they knew how much the hd multimedia dock would cost (standalone) and they couldnt give me a price

Excellent move Now if any of those reps actually had the power to change any of this then we'd be on our way. I still like the phone but I am sure going to wait it out now to see what else comes around. Man, I wish I would have taken off for the wing bowl.

That's brilliant. I think yelling at any AT&T Employees is great! AS LONG AS you make sure you let them know that you are not yelling at them, the employee, but you are very upset with the company and that they should report to their superior about it.
Gosh, I have no idea why I'm so riled up about a phone and its accessory. Granted, my birthday is right around the corner and this news completely derailed what I had planned. Oh well. I just hope that we can cause enough uproar so that there might be real action taken.

yeah like i said, i think it moved into a bit more calm talking after i just yelled that to get their attention. it was a crazy morning, drinking from 4-10am haha

I dunno
Well I posted a not so nice comment on the AT&T Facebook page about the pricing of the dock and their lack of concern for their customers that keep them in business, and their already horrible reputation. It would be good for all of us to post something there to make them notice.
I did not want the laptop docking station. I have maxed out my Captivate....it needs more ram and more speed which is what the Atrix has. I was going to be the first to get it, now I have to think about it and look at other options so I can't say for sure what I will do other than post more comments on their Facebook page.

**** me, I was going to have one with a laptop imported to use on Telstra, but with the pricing, AT&T can go **** themselves. I mean, I can get a decent netbook for less than $500! I'll just get the phone, and then I'll import the dock from.the UK, where it should be cheaper. EDIT: My tweet on Twitter, follow and RT please:

Engadget: Dell Streak very likely coming to AT&T any day now

http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/15/dell-streak-very-likely-coming-to-atandt-any-day-now/
You may have heard chatter recently that Dell's Streak is destined for AT&T as soon as July 19 -- and now, with a little dot-connecting, we're pretty much on board with that theory. We've just been tipped with some images of a corporate-owned AT&T store where contractors are in the process of installing new kiosks in the "Smartphones" area of the floor under tight security; they've apparently been made to sign NDAs and a number of employees "are already on the chopping block" for trying to figure out what it is. We suppose it could be something Captivate-related, but considering the level of security here, we think it's something much bigger. Like 5 inches or so, if you catch our drift. Catch another shot after the break.
just read it on ENGADGET
Its listed on Gadget .com and intomobile as well as the 19 so looks like you guys wont have to wait much longer
http://www.gadgetcom.com/dell-streak-very-likely-coming-to-att-any-day-now/
http://www.intomobile.com/2010/07/1...ed&utm_campaign=Feed:+IntoMobile+(IntoMobile)
The problem is its going to be on ATT :-/
I put the over / under at $300 with contract. Place your bets.
I'm glad for all you guys to hear that it may be coming out soon. So many people have been waiting for it for so long. I'd still like to check it out, I'm just so worked up with Dell right now I don't think I can handle it.
Regardless, AT&T does have the 30 day return so it's not like we're locked into it if it doesn't live up to expectations.

Net Neutrality, Google's deal with Verizon [Android unrelated]

You only need to read the first 3 paragraphs below to get the idea, but Google and Verizon are talking about a deal to throttle internet speeds to websites that can pay more money.
Anyways, here's a link to a pre-made email to send, all you have to do is put some info in. http://freepr.es/bXFB7i
I don't really want to sound like I'm some spokesperson about net neutrality, I just agree with it, and I think this is a bad deal, so I'm trying to get the word out best way I know.
Google is about to cut a deal with Verizon that would end the Internet as we know it.
According to a front-page New York Times story, the deal allows “Verizon to speed some online content to Internet users more quickly if the content's creators are willing to pay for the privilege."
It would create fast Internet lanes for the largest corporations and slow lanes for the rest of us.
That’s why we’re starting a mass protest by Google users to stop these two companies from joining forces to sell out millions of people like us who use the Internet.
If Millions Join Our Call, We Can Stop this Deal: Tell Google, “Don’t Be Evil"
Google’s motto is supposed to be “Don’t Be Evil.” But this deal puts the company in bed with the devil.
From the beginning, the Internet has been a level playing field that allows everyone to connect to one another and the world of content available online -- whether it's ABC News or your cousin’s wedding video. There’s only one Internet, and it shouldn’t matter who your provider is or whether you're logging on from home or your cell phone.
This deal will change all of that, allowing Google and Verizon to pick what websites you can see over others. The result couldn't be bleaker for the future of the Internet and for free speech and independent voices online.
Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin created Google to make information freely available to everyone online. But this deal is a complete reversal that abandons their core principles:
Sign this letter and tell Google’s founders:
“Your Verizon deal IS evil, and it must be stopped.”
It’s up to the millions of people who use Google every day to tell the company to do the right thing.
Google must walk away from this bad deal, and make sure Internet users everywhere can enjoy the entire open Internet wherever, whenever and however they want.

It isnt just Google..this is really getting to be a big story. Check this story out.

I havent had a chance to really dig into this but if it is as the couple stories I have read about it suggest this is not good.
Net Neutrality has been a big issue for awhile now. Google was known for fighting for it. That's why this was such a big deal. Turns out it to be false.
if this is true it could very well be android related as Verizon could shut HTC and other manufacturers out. i would like a more firm statement from them

They could I suppose, but HTC makes phones for them too, and they could probably afford to have the speed increase if this were true. I don't know why Verizon would do that.
I don't follow news very well, but it looks like both Google, and Verizon, have denied this.
I haven't read into it much, but sounds like it's false. I'm glad Google is fighting for net neutrality, which is why when I heard about this alleged deal, I was upset at Google.

Good luck. Didn't we just see the news that Android is killing the other mobile platforms in sales? I still believe in Google. They fought against Apple and MS, and now they're taking serious ground. They'll do the same if they meet opposition from another front. But, yes, they do need to state their position unequivocally and officially.

Android should keep their noses out of business [to an extent] and RIM should keep their nose out of social networking/more of an entertainment arena. at least for now. neither has a grasp fully on the other and trying to do so will just water down all phones

Know a little inside info on the annoucement from Sprint Vendor :) Feb 7th

Not saying he's making $ off of you, but I guarantee you he thought that by telling you some "inside" information you'd stick around and buy something. Again, I deal with all vendors daily, I hate them and should all be fired, except Best Buy, they're the most honest vendors out there. Radioshack and all others suck.

Actually, realistically, retooling the iphone for Sprint would take minimal effort. No iphone is or ever will be branded, so basically the Verizon one is simply a "cdma iphone" programmed for Verizon. I'm not HOPING for this as the announcement, as I actually switched to android from an iphone, and I'm happy I did, so I don't care either way about a Sprint i-turd. Just saying it would take very little to do it.

what to see some real hate

I will agree that the Echo is a big disappointment, and I comment on sprints facebook that way.
After watching that youtube, (before that all I saw was the one pic showing off the huge hinge) the echo does look kinda cool. It's the processer, and the rest of the specs are weak.
Has anybody seen how much RAM/ROM it has? Also is that the second gen snapdragon, like the 800mhz one in the G2? The running two seperate screens at once is kinda cool.
Someone needs to be fired.

Epic fail in my book, Ill just keep my Evo until they release something worth upgrading to...
I find it hard to believe that there wasnt a handful of people at sprint that thought this was a terrible idea. I wonder it this was a one or two man mainshow as far as approval of the idea of the phone.
There is literally one or two positive comments amongst hundreds of borderline verbally "violent" comment against the Echo.
Makes you wonder if Dan just said "We are doing this phone, if you dont like it then your fired" or if the even did any market testing????

I think Kyocera makes the best music....listen to the song they have on the youtube ad....It's great! I feel like I'm back in the '80s!
im pretty sure majority of sprint agreed that it was a failure, but kyocera pushed money and persuasion into this event.... im willing to bet sprint wanted nothing to do with this phone and kyocera paid for the event, not sprint.
So was this the equivalent of being rick rolled by sprint? I never expected to get trolled by my own phone company, they should know its bad business to play with peoples emotions when you are trying to get money from them.
But then again this is the same company who called the epic, well, the epic.

i had to rick roll myself after seeing that

Stupid ass Sprint and their stupid ass playbook?

As you can see by the title I am getting more and more disgruntled by the day.
I assume the playbook made no mention of GB this f'ing week?
.....I'm not sure how I am supposed to respond to this. There is no question. Or any way to know whether or not Sprint will drop GB. Hmmm

If it is going to drop isn't it mentioned in the PB?
Therefore the question is - Was it in the PB tonight?

If it was, your title is going to look more retarded than it does already, and its already full fledged.

Speaking of retarded, look who it is. Pot, Kettle, Black.
Anyway - I qualified my title in the first line of my post. I am disgruntled and I am tired of the same old **** from Sprint/Samsung. No communication, late patches... Tired and disgruntled beyond belief. Hence the title.

Thanks for being real. I feel the same way bro. I feel your pain. But I am not surprised. Maybe some of the guys can ask Lonny Claus for his version of gingerbread. I am on the naughty list so I won't be getting gingerbread but others who are on the nice list can or maybe we can wait for the Lonny Bunny but our best chance is to ask the Great Lonny next Halloween for gingerbread by that time we will have an official gingerbread while everybody else will be on Jellybean.

Thanks Steve. I didn't know that was the case. I thought several users here had access to it.
I am so disgusted with SamSprint it is disgusting. The worst part yet is that I feel that I have no options. I like Samsung technology (specifically the large AMOLED screen in combination with the physical QWERTY), but with attitude that Samsung and Sprint have in releasing software updates (the attitude of I got your money already), it is REALLY discouraging. I wish we had other options because I would GTFO of this phone QUICK and never buy another Samsung phone again.
ALSO, all of this in combination with Samsung and Sprint's complete lack of communication on the matter. No status updates, confirmations, NOTHING. SOOOOOOOOOO tired of this business model, and nothing on the horizon that looks better.
The Galaxy S is an awesome phone no matter which variant you have. Yes we don't get the up dates as quick as we should, I put it on the carriers(refer to the I9000 section on samfirmware and you'll see what I mean). If they'd let some members of xda do their updates they'd be a lot stablier and out faster.

It is pretty clear from all of the posts that I have read, that getting GB from his phone is nothing short of a lost cause.
That said, we shouldn't need to do this kind of reverse engineering crap to get the software off his phone to get it to the people that want it.

Care to take your childish, complaining somewhere else? Try any android blog, or the sprint forums. This thread, and all of these supportive attitudes are asinine.

I am sorry that you think it is ok for companies (Sprint/Samsung) to treat THEIR CUSTOMERS this way. You know, the same customers who pay the salaries of the employees of their respective companies???
I am also sorry that you don't find this ridiculous delay, and this non-communication as acceptable, and as something that doesn't warrant complaining.
Instead, you chose to complain about my post. Good use of your time. It is YOUR passive attitude which is what allows these exact delays to occur. GOOD JOB!
BACK ON TOPIC:
I guess it wasn't in the playbook this week?
Dude, for real? Grow up. We've gone this long without official GB, it's not like the phone is unusable without it.

And that makes it ok!!!!
I simply don't understand how so many people think it is OK for a consumer to be treated this way by the company they are supporting. This is NOT OK. Instead of being passive about the entire situation, why not be more vocal???
Funny thing is, if you pacifists would actually read what I post, you would see that I am not even necessarily asking for GB tomorrow. I would be thrilled just to get some communication from these companies. Stop keeping the PAYING CUSTOMERS in the dark. Let us know what is going on.
If more people spoke up, maybe these companies would change their tune a little, but nooooooooooo, people are ok with not getting updates in a timely fashion, with no communication from the companies that will ultimately provide said update.
Unless GB is gonna make my phone physically do my job for me I don't see it as that big of a deal. The devs have made this phone kick ass but in essence its just a phone that's fun to mod. I just don't get all the anger. Besides that I'm running eh17 with one of the new kernels from source and it is running great. (Although it still doesn't do my job for me)

Your complaing in a development fourm isn't going to do anything for you if your upset that sprint/samsung does not give you timely updates to your phone. Try complaining in the sprint/samsung fourms, it might help your cause a litttle more.

I have personally written to both companies (actual paper and stamp). I am just one person. If more and more people did it (even just demanded communication), things would change.

I had to lol at the job still not being done for you. Now there's a real challenge for the devs.

Spoke up to WHO? XDA Developers forum?
And no one is keeping anyone in the dark. We weren't guaranteed ANYTHING. We have been getting leaks (read: unofficial builds), and that's it. Nothing has been announced. We'll get it when we get it. Were we even TOLD we were getting Gingerbread by both Sprint and Samsung? I don't think so. We are all speculating release dates, 2.3.x builds, playbook leaks, etc.
