[Q] hardware similar to g tablet? - Vega General

hi i have been looking for tablets around and at the moment for the price this advent seems just the best[= but i was wondering is the hardware similar enough to tablets like the g tablet for their roms to work? like if they got a honeycomb port would it work on the advents[= any help is greatly appreciated[=

I think that the only one diference is the wifi radio.

HC Has a hidden GB like type UI!

We got HC 3.1 on the dell streak 7 and the lcd density was too low making everything small. I bumped it from 120 to 190 and rebooted and was shocked.. it was a different UI! It was like GB. Setting the LCD Density to 160 and below gave us the HC UI 170 and higher gave us the GB UI

trader!!!!
Old news. This circulated round when the SDK was previewable.
What file did you modify to manually change the LCD density?
This has been known since the SDK... yet Engadget is reporting on it again
Please forgive my pure "noob" question...
Please forgive the pure "noob" question I am about to ask but does this mean that Honeycomb is not really a Full OS and just a build up on Gingerbread?
Im not sure if that even makes any sence but the one reason I bought my Xoom (which I am excitedly waiting to have shipped to me) is because of the Honeycomb Tablet "Optimized" OS otherwise I would have just bought a Galaxy Tab...

Is that supposed to be "traitor"?
I have yet to find a way to change the density on the xoom, anyone try this yet?

Gingerbread and honeycomb are separate. Both are self contained OS. For all practical purposes...In the world there is a kernel that is the operating system and everything else (drivers, interface and on is just additions to be able to use the kernel). Just as windows 7 is not vista or XP, they are separate. Combined all together is the OS.
So what makes GB so special and better than HC?
One was designed for small devices GB and HC is still young but made for tablets. they both serve a different purpose. Each one is seperate and one is not better then the other. For instance HC on my Htc evo would not make any sence. Screen is to darn small. you could do it...but it would not(IMO) be practical. I want my tablet not to make phone calls, yet gingerbread could run a tablet, very well I might add. Ice cream from google is the merging of tablet and phone android OSs to a single codebase. There is still much work needed on HC that will be done and the Gingerbread, froyo, Eclair have been around longer so the have a bigger user base.

[Q] HTC Flyer rom on A500

just wanted to ask if there is a HTC flyer ROM that can be installed on a Acer Iconica A 500 have been looking for a while and can't seem to find any info about it
PLEASE help me
I wish! Let me know if you find one! I love htc!
Unlikely. The Flyer is a 7" device and the whole UI is designed for that size, so it's not going to look good on a 10" one. Plus, it has special hardware (the pen digitizer) that the A500 is lacking so its most useful feature would have to be stripped.
what about any htc sense port to the a500?
The puccini is 10 inches. I know it would be hard but I would donate to it!!
Any projects currently working towards this?

Android 4.0? VegaCream?

Just curious, once 4.0 is released are we likely to see it on the Vega?
Assumably, 4.0 will be open sourced as everything pre-3.0 was and would be a breeze in comparison to porting 3.2.
What say you, oh wise devs of Vega?

We can only hope, ICS is being marketed as the android for everything, and that includes high and low spec devices, this suggests that it may change dynamically to suit the spec of he device it is running on.
Hopefully if we got it on the vega it would help with the low ram issue that vegacomb currently has.
I think we have two things to look out for, the first being the release date of ICS, slowly less people will be interested in the vega.
Another is how similar it is to honeycomb, a lot of work has gone into getting honeycomb onto the vega, if ICS needs all of that work done again, it is less likely that we will get ICS.
Interesting views, thanks!
My understanding is that given the closed nature of honeycomb, it wads a lot more difficult to port than ICS would be, which is supposed to be open source.

Well, Cyanogenmod will be using ICS when the source comes out and Cyanogenmod supports the Vega, so we can reasonably assume we will get ICS.
last CM7 update for Vega was on August 31st and it still doesn't support internal 3G and GPS. I don't think anybody is working on the CM7 for Vega anymore.
If CM do get around to progressing beyond GB for the Vega I will be impressed.
I understand their buildbot went down a short while ago, so nothing is updating for Vega at the moment..
I'd much rather see dedicated ROMs from the awesome Devs who know the vega intimately to be honest though!

Please people stop posting questions in the development section.
Mods please move to general.
Take it easy

Just in case someone stumbles on this thread and is not yet aware of it, ICS for the Vaga and similar devices has been out since 31 December 2011 as VagaICS. The latest version is VegaICS Beta1 originally developed by Cass67 and ejtange, but now being further developed by a whole number od devs simulataniously. Seach for VegaICS Beta1 on XDA.
I think Cass and co are working on 4.04 too, been a bit quiet on vega development, looks like alot of people have moved onto other devices
Check the last couple of pages of this thread on Modaco to see how they are all getting on with ICS - http://android.modaco.com/topic/330834-advent-vega-kernel-source-code-now-available/page__st__1700

[Q] What is best device ROM (CM9) to port from for 7.7 Tab?

i'm wondering what would be the best choice of CM9 from other devices to get the port from?
SGSII? NOTE?
please advice.
Seems note has the near the same hardware spec with 7.7, but s2 has the official 4.03 from samsung

I started from the s2 source (see the thread in the dev-section), unfortunately I have gotten really busy with work so I won't really be able to put much time into it right now. If you are interested in working on it, go look at the repos I posted in that thread. I've most recently been trying to get the touch to work properly, however, the driver for it in the 7.7 source code is a complete mess, and more complicated than other drivers that have been fixed for ics.
I have GT-P6800, does same repository apply to it?
All but the android_device_samsung_p6810 should, and that last one should be easy to convert. If you are interested in working on it, I would suggest forking the common ones so that we can share our work easily.
I'm interested in working on a P6800 too.

GT-P7500 owner here, a few questions about ICS

First of all sorry if this has been asked many times, I haven't found exact answers.
What is stopping GT-P7500 getting ICS stable and camera working as it should? As owener of this model I am very dissapointed with this model stock software and I am placing my hopes on ICS from any source (I hsve a modded Honeycomb which runs many times better than stock but still I am not happy since the best I found working for me was a ROM for the P7510 losing 3g support).
Is it Samsung not releasing drivers they should?
Is because of Nvidia not releasing Tegra2 drivers?
Or.. for example CyanogenMod team have all they need and it is a matter of time?
Thanks in advance!
First off I feel your pain but try and understand how hard the Cyanogenmod guys work. They provide an amazing product for free so patience is key.
That being said I have been running the p4 snapshots of ics on my GT-P7500 for awhile now and it runs beautifully minus the camera. Realistically you aren't going to use the camera that much anyways on a tablet.
It runs smooth and flawlessly and has really impressed me so far.
Find the link to Droid basement that gets you to the snapshots. Give it a try it can't hurt. You can find the link in this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461240&page=140
I would post the full link but I don't have enough posts yet.
Enjoy!
Or you can try the Overcome ROM (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348533), runs Android 3.2, but is very smooth if you combine it with the kernel provided by pershoot (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138167)
Thanks for the answer guys.
My queries were more to find out if the delay is because Samsung's fault for not releasing drivers for the community.
Of course for the cyanogenmod team I have all the patience in the world and my utmost respect for them, In fact all my hopes are in the devs community like them instead of samsung or htc (I own a desire), etc. for taking care of the devices I own For me it's clear which is the priority of most manufacturers.
Sorry to hijack this, but does anyone who's used the current ICS editions for the P7500 know if exchange email works "fully" (with calendar etc...) when I tried one of the first ROMs, this wasn't working.
Those you have live/hotmail accounts and have it setup as an exchange account should be able to confirm this one way or another.

You're welcome buddy i'd love to know more too, something will come.
Not sure about exchange haven't tried it yet. I unfortunately have to carry a second phone for work that's all set up with exchange. Its a Blackberry Bold 9900....boooooooo! If I see something I'll post it.
Cheers

We need propriatery video/camera libs from samsung to work in ics, with tegra libs that has the specific video/camera libs compiled in. So we need libs from both,my understanding in any case, and that is only going to happen once an ics rom gets released/leaked.

Does 3G work with the CM release or is it wifi only? I have an unlocked Rogers galaxy tab 10.1 and would love to try out ICS on it.
3G works
I have a P 7500, and 3g works perfectly well.
So does the WI-FI, tethering etc.
I tried to have CM on my 10.1, but can't get it through, running AOKP M5 now on it, everything works fine on AOKP ICS, so you can try it, U will get addicted to it
exchange work great with milestone 5
