The problem is, you can't become a Premier customer on any of those plans.
They look like good prices for the plans, but I already get 25% off through my company.

From the OP, I can also confirm it. I just tried to use this on an upgrade and no deal.

This I did not know. It was not that way with the old SERO plans. Shame I am business nice with a hefty discount.

okay so i have an 3 lines on my account with the everything data plan and i want to add a line and get the epic. Would i be able to add a line to my account with this discount?
Can't get "Plus" plan
Hi,
First off I'd like to express my thanks for allowing people to use your employee referral information. It's appreciated!
I went to the Sprint store (San Leandro, CA) on launch day armed with Russ's info thinking I could get the Plus plan for me and my Fiancé. The store clerk said that the "Plus" plans do not offer the Epic 4G and he could not sign me up for a "Everything data Plus" family plan. He assured me the account can be changed after the fact into a "Plus" account. Reluctantly I signed up for the regular plan after repeated assurances that the plan can be turned into a "Plus" variant further down the line.
Now how do I actually make this happen? I'm assuming it is actually possible as I thought given the nature of this forum topic. Can one of you nice Sprint people give me some advice?

I heard on SprintUsers that there is going to be a change in upgrade eligibility effective April. How 100% certain it is I don't know, but Duffman an Advanced Sprint Tech posted about it yesterday. It appears you have to meet a certain plan price point to qualify for "Gold" status to be eligible to a 12 month upgrade. Silver and everyone else is only eligible to the full upgrade every 22 months. These price points are before the cost of Add a lines, Insurance, taxes, Premium Data etc. So the Base plan price is what counts, from what I understand.
The question at hand is if it will reset your upgrade date come 04/01/11. So if you were due a 12mo upgrade on 04/01/11 has it now been pushed out to 04/01/2012? Or will they be like Verizon and make it effective upon your next upgrade?
Anyone else heard anything or have any "insider" information. I can see this being true with the pending Feb 7 announcement they have planned. Verizon changed their policy and then announced the iphone almost immediately after that. Sprint might be following suit.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but it looks like they're about to screw over just about every person who picked up an Evo last year. Many of us picked up the phone as a premier member knowing that we'd be eligible for Sprint's next June release (this year). Most people aren't going to have an individual recurring charge of 89.99 because the 79.99 pretty much gives you unlimited everything. Looks like you have to be on a family plan to be a gold member.

Word is they are going to roll out a new unlimited plan for $89.99 too. Unlimited minutes/data etc and I *think* 4G is included in there, if not it too is a $10 charge. Lot's of changes seem to be coming this year.
Wow. That sucks, it was a major competitive advantage. It sounds from the thread on SU that it will reset your eligibility date...meaning everyone who has bought the Evo expecting to do a premier upgrade in a year is probably stuck with no discount until 2012. What really sucks is that I don't think there's jack you can do about it. It was a perk program, and not part of your contract at all. I doubt this will give anyone an ETF free termination option.
I wasn't premier eligible myself anyway, because I'm on SERO premium (which more than compensates for it). But for anyone not on SERO or thinking about coming over to Sprint, the annual upgrade was a major reason to consider staying with/switching to Sprint. They still are ahead of the other carriers in value, but they appear to be steadily chipping away at that. I'm not so sure I'd stay with Sprint if VZW was the same price.

Sprint used to be unstoppable back in my SERO days. Now it's a good value but not so far ahead with the addition of premium data, etc. This change pretty much kills my next upgrade and might just push me and a lot of the other more techy heads out to other carriers.
Living the cheap off contract HSPA+ life with T-Mo is looking more and more attractive.

You either need to have a plan with the above listed price point or be a Sprint customer for 10 years. So if you have an individual plan with a $59 base price and have been a customer since 2000, you still qualify as Premier Gold. You don't meet the price guidelines, but being a 10 year customer automatically entitles you to the Gold benefits.
This is how it has always been. Either a 10 year customer, on a $69.99 plan or higher for individual lines or $99.99 plan for family plans. Must be on the plans for at least three months an additional lines qualify every 22 months. Has never been different. I haven't heard anything about it changing anytime soon. This is a bad rumor to make Verizon look good.

Looks real; and it is different. $70 vs $90, $100 vs $170 BASE plans... almost nobody but unlimited everything qualifies now. Premier finally means premier.

This is a bad rumor. $169.99 is the highest family plan available and $89.99 is $10 less than their unlimited plan. Would be stupid for Sprint to charge it's customers it's highest prices available. Again, nothing has been said about this at Sprint, not even a leak. Someone is posting this to not make Vzw look horrible.

Seems like the second change is a $89.99 unlimited single plan. Lines up perfectly. You can pretend or hope its not true but people are getting confirmations from reps. Check out the sprint users thread.

Seems a little ridiculous to me. I doubt they want to go from the cheapest to the most expensive, over 3 phones, none being the iPhone. Still think it's a horrible rumor, retentions would have known already to prepare to "save" people.

I just spoke with someone in the Sprint Escalation management team because I am having an issue with my 10 year status. I have been with Sprint since 2000 BUT it only shows since 2005. They changed systems in 2005 and some of the legacy customers are losing their tenure unless you call up and request that they put in paperwork to check your status thru your SSN.
Here's the KICK IN THE NUTS. Even IF you are a 10 year plus customer you STILL have to subscribe to a plan of $169.99 (family plan) or $89 (single plan) to get the yearly upgrade. For me that's an extra $40 a month (as I am on the $129 family plan) or $480 a year JUST TO UPGRADE one of my lines per year. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Sprint can goto hell. This is how they reward loyalty even thou they are bleeding money and soon to be customers. I will be leaving Sprint even if I have to pay an ETF. What a bunch of jokers.

Read on for Sprint’s official statement on the matter.
Sprint is updating the program for 2011 with two tiers of benefits, Sprint Premier Silver and Sprint Premier Gold, making sure that Sprint Premier Silver retains the benefits that were popular with the most customers. Effective 4/1/11:
Sprint Premier Gold customers must only meet ONE of the following three qualifications:
· Individual plans with a 3-month average MRC** of at least $89.99, or
· Shared plans with a 3-month average MRC** of at least $169.99 MRC, or
· Tenure of 10+ years with Sprint
Sprint Premier Silver customers must only meet ONE of the following two qualifications:
· Individual plans with a 3-month average MRC** of $69.99 – $89.98, or

I read that "Must Only Meet One" BUT this is what I was told by a Sprint Escalation Management Member (they could be off their rocker and not know much as well). Knowing Sprint, I highly doubt their employees are informed correctly.

I just talked to Sprint. I have an Employee Referral (used to be sero, but had to upgrade for my Hero) Its called Everything Plus Family 1600. My total Plan is $150 before taxes, thats with insurance on 3 phones and the $10 4G fee.
So I am under the $169, but i have 11 years with sprint. The employee plans representative told me that I had Tier 3 Premier Member and when it switches I will be converted to Gold status.
Looks like all you need is ONE of the items listed as a prerequisite.
Edit: I did my math wrong my plan totals $160.98 before all fees and taxes.
Im in kind of the same boat. Ive been with sprint since 2001, so I SHOULD be a gold customer now. But a few months ago, when sprint refused to replace my faulty phone, I told them "Is this how you treat a customer of 10 years?" The guy told me I'm lying, because their system shows I started in 2005, which is a complete lie, because I know for a fact I started in 2001, right after I graduated high school. Basterds..

Hmmm.....not to go against what you were told but there is Sprint literature that explicitly states that customers who have a tenure of 10 years or more will be premier regardless of their plan. We'll see though...

No, you wont... Is 169 base plan BEFORE any options or taxes, and.bb the premium data fee is an option

I believe this is probably my first post. My first smart phone was a blackberry curve, then I got a Samsung Moment (horrible phone, but I came to love the android platform), then I got an HTC Evo. This has been the best phone I have ever experienced. I have rooted both android phones and have frequented SDX, android forums and here, I don't believe I have ever posted on any because I haven't had any problems that I couldn't figure out by reading more nor do I feel I have had any information that could have substantially helped anyone. I had recently read (I believe it may have been here but I couldn't find the thread) that if you had a upgrade available but didn't use it by April first and didn't qualify for Gold Premier then it would disappear, I couldn't believe it but had to check for myself, this is my transcript which I then called customer service to verify.

While I was online checking things out, a 'chat' rep came on and wanted to know if he could help....LOL! His first question...."Are you currently a Sprint Customer?" Wanted to just click the little X, but played with him for a little bit....glad I didn't really need any information.

Nope, I talked to retentions, and the "hidden" corporate number. There is nothing they can do about this. This change came from the powers that be above everyone, and NO rep has the power to change this.

This is hopefully going to hurt Sprint a bit.
My wife and I activated our EVOs on 30 Dec and it was exactly this perk that tipped the scales for me. I love getting new phones and the chance to upgrade every year was a HUGE incentive to me. Now I will ride out this contract and be a free agent again. A free agent that will still feel rather scorned by this move.
I hope that Sprint has some execs that drop by this board every once in a while so that they can see how much of a bad taste this is going to leave in the mouths of the customers that they claim to adore.
This is what I had been saying but was told I was lying...

Wow! This is ridiculous...
I've contacted Sprint and plan to travel my way up the corporate ladder until I can express my concerns to someone who actually cares. This is a very bad business move for Sprint and will likely lead to me switching carriers.
Perhaps, if we can round up enough people, if we all express our concerns in regards to this change Sprint may consider revising this change. You never know... It's worth a shot.
I might be upgrading today. It's just been a very difficult decision. Evo or evo shift? I watched many comparison videos. It seems like shift would be the way to go, because its 2nd generation snapdragon. But I love the big screen on the evo, its huge so you don't need a hardware keyboard. Games- I don't play much(besides Star Traders), just a couple. I'm all about fast browsing and watching videos like on YouTube etc. Thanks for reading, and I would appreciate your input

I think I'm going to hold off until the next big phone after the EVO. Gotta be HTC, though. I'd say go EVO unless you need the keyboard.

Dual cores from Qualcomm are coming. Its a safe bet EVO 2 will be announced at CTIA later this month for release in June. I would wait...
I'm in the same boat as you, just hit my upgrade date this past Tuesday and was worried i would need to upgrade this month because of the changes to Sprint Premier coming April 1st. Went to my local sprint store and i was assured that i would not lose my upgradeable status come April. So instead of the Evo like i was originally going to get i think i'm going to hold out and see how Kyocera Echo feels. That dual display may seem like a gimmick to some but i think i'll like it, if only to have the ability to have a full touchscreen keyboard when typing.

The Echo will need to have custom apps written for it. It will have a custom SDK. Also, it's Kyocera.

They can make a pretty good phone if they put their minds to it, I still regard the Kyocera Koi/KX 2 as one of the best phones I ever had.

If a Rep told you that you keep your upgrade, you probably want to either a) read the letter sprint sent to you or b) go read the web site they put up for it. There's a link to it in the epic vs evo shift topic in the q&a section
Edit: it was in this section. My bad. Here's the link though. And if you're paying $90/month base plan so that you get to keep your upgrade you're getting ripped off anyway and of course in that case they'd let you keep your upgrade

I'm guessing since your Sprint rep told you that you get to keep your 12 month refresh then you must be on the $90 or above individual plan or the $170 and above family plan, because anything less than those plans will loose the 12 month Sprint Premier refresh. I summarized the new Sprint Premier FAQ over on this thread. So, if you are on an individual plan less than $90 or family plan less than $170, then please read this excerpt from Sprint's Premier FAQ.
Q:How is my upgrade eligibility impacted?
Effective 4/1/11:
Sprint Premier Gold accounts will continue to receive the annual upgrade benefit based on maintaining a 3-month average of $89.99* for individual plans or $169.99 for shared plans, or for 10+ years service. Gold accounts will receive one annual upgrade per qualifying plan.
Sprint Premier Silver accounts:
If the line qualifying for an annual upgrade is 22 months from the last upgrade, there is no impact. The line would continue to be eligible for an upgrade under Sprint's New For You upgrade program, which allows eligible customers to upgrade every 22 months.
If the line qualifying for an annual upgrade is 12-21 months from the last upgrade, the upgrade must be used by March, 31, 2011. Otherwise, effective April 1, 2011, the upgrade eligibility on that line will be changed to 22 months.
If the line qualifying for an annual upgrade is less than 12 months from the last upgrade, their upgrade eligibility will be changed to 22 months.

I'd go with the EVO Shift, it's a faster more simple version than the EVO in my thoughts.
Plus, it looks to have the newest technology compared to the EVO.
