Gingerbread VOIP calling problems - Desire HD General

Hi guys,
I am not sure if this is the right forum, but at least it is a desire hd.
Their is CM7 nightly #5 installed and I have an issue with outgoing VOIP calls.
Call reception is working quite well.
(Provider is 1und1 germany via pbxes.org, and a asterisk server installed out company)
When doing the call, I can select to use "internet call" and then there appears a red ribon on top of the screen telling me that "some thing is out side of some thing" (Sorry, the message is not very helpful) you can see details on the screenshots.
This happens with every number, no matter which internet provider I use.
To verify that the setting are right, I used SipDroid, and it worked perfectly.
Any hints would be great! Thank you very much

I am on CM7 #5 using pbxes.org and VOIP calling works just fine for me over wifi.

Strange...
Any ideas? Did it work from immediately or did you have to test around a little bit? Did you change the "advanced settings"? Or just Domain, Username and Password?
thanks

I managed to configure freeconet.pl, Polish voip operator on sipdroid. Never tried on wifi, but works good on 3g except sometimes especialy witl low signal may drop or take a while to connect. Not dificult to configure too

Update. On WiFi it works brilliant, like a wired phone domain, username, password. I also played with some codes and stuff but thiswas only out of ccuriosity...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Hello habnefrage,
Cynogen mod 7(CM7) is not a stable ROM. Its just a custom rom made to improve the overall user interface. It is not developed by your smart-phone company’s developer, hence it might contain certain bugs which are interrupting with SIP tasks. I prefer you install the official android rom and perform the VOIP tasks then. I’m sure you shall get positive results.
Answering your 2nd question, I would suggest other VOIP apps you should try: ringcentral, TheRealPBX.

SIP VoIP on TyTN

My first post in this outstanding forum
I've spent quite some time looking for programs able to run my SIP VoIP desktop client on Tynt. On WinXP I use X-Lite with VoIPDiscount and I know for sure it's possible to configure X-Lite with many other SIP based services like VoIP Stunt.
Is there a tested client for Tynt? All I've found was for PPC2003 and I got errors all over. Ideal'd be a client working with both UMTS and WiFi, but WiFi would suffice completely.
On the other hand, Skype works flowlessly
I use SJPhone:
http://www.sjphone.org/preview/ce/
You need to adjust settings to make it work correctly, also audio is a lot better with the USB headset, see this thread for right settings:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=59131
You can also use x-lite CE 1.01, find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=58154
SJPhone all the way here too. It also works as a Vonage Softphone!
thanks guys. I saw SJphone but somehow I didn't manage access to the beta page.
I'll let you know
If your provider supports IAX protocol (which is much better while on hostile firewalled networks) my choice is http://www.voipsurfer.net/
My sincere thanks, guys I'm gonna try them all. At this point I created correctly the profile with SJPhone; the same profile works great with the windows client (after creating the profile I copied it to my desktop and the XP client accepted the profile like it was its own). After applying the profile the PDA client asks for id & pw, but I cannot register. Explorer is online so I know the internet connection is fine. I think I need some working yet.
I have managed to instal the pocketpc version of xlite and it works ok from the point of view of me trying to ring my home phone, it connecting and disconnecting ok and it registering as a broadband phone call through my isp when I check my online records.
The sound quality on the device is unusable.
When I use the supplied mini usb headphones I can hear the person I am calling very clearly but they can not hear me properly.
Can someone talk me through anything I can do to improve the settings so that I have a chance of using my device for voip calls whilst at home. I am not in the realms of anything to techincal though.

WM6 VoIP & pbxes

Hello everyone!
Situation: I have several VoIP provider (sipgate, 1und1...) My problem is I can only setup a single provider in my phone with built-in WM6 VoIP client.
Solution attempt: I set up an account with pbxes.org. There I added my SIP providers and an extension with username and password. Now I tried to set this up using the Sip Config Tool V2.0.1. Here are the settings:
Sip Server: pbxes.org Port: 5060
(tried others like sip.pbxes.org(com) and the IP)
username: username-extension_number
password: password
That's it. It's not working. The Today Internet-Calling-plugin tells me "searching....", but never to "selected"
I also tried using x-lite on my desktop pc. With the same settings I successfully registered and I was able to use pbxes just as it is supposed to be.
When using sipgate directly with WM6 it works, but not with pbxes.
I am kind of running out of ideas. So any help is really appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Stefan
Tried several times as well on my S620.
Now, two days ago got a S710 and was curious to test VOIP on it.
Very first time I tried I was thinking everything was fine, at least nearly.
The Today plugin showed "Searching" (like with providers it works with)
The icon for Internet Phone showed up.
Unfortunately it "semi worked" only that time, any other tests I tried the Today Plugin didn't even get into "Searching".
The bad thing is that it did work once, like meaning it could work. Now PBXES status shows as Registered but it isn't actually. The other bad thing is that I tried to post in their forum for help but didn't receive much info back.
Bad luck, but I'll try and try again. Maybe newer files one of these days and our probs would be solved.

Subscribe message
I ever check the message from sip server, I found that windows mobile voip client not only send register message, but also try to send subscribe message, I guess that it is reason that some sip server only may work as registra, and not handle correctly subscribe. it seems the reason the client always display "searching", I will try to modify sip server to support subscribe message in the future.
try fring
try using fring...
it supports multiple sip accounts.. and actually register u not just subscribe you.
You are right, Fring or any other 3rd party app connecting to a SIP server can work maybe better than the "builtin" SIP functionality but personally would prefer being able to use a solution where I dial like usual and calls get automatically router to VOIP, not having to switch to a separate app.
This is why I'd rather like the builtin sip stack to work on its own with any SIP provider. I tested it with PBXES but doesn't work. I'm currently renting a VPS with Asterisk (Trixbox) installed and it does connect. Only prob is that even if it manages to register, seems MS VOIP implementation is still not really compatible or suitable for the use I wish to have.
Ka.
This is an old thread but this is the same problem I have on my HTC HD2 (Leo).
Installed sip drivers and voip config cabs and configured it with my account through pbxes and it is not working.
Can someone help?
Android (Moto droid, HTC Hero) I had no problem with pbxes and sipdroid...

VOIP software...Whats the latest now?

hello evryone,
sorry if this has been mentioned many times.
i have my beloved HTC TD, with shine 2.4 Full and Radio 05.
i am pleased with it , only missing part is to be able to use VOIP/Sip Calls.
i have been browsing this forums for many pages, and there are many unsolved and unfinished threads about the voip problem in HTC TD.
1. SJphone
2. Sip config tool
3. hidden sip manager
4. wm61voip.cab
i have tryed all, and i havent had luck yet to be able to use my voipbuster account on my phone..
My last phone was a nokia n95, symbian, was soo easy to setup voip and make quality calls, please dont tell me that a windows mobile is that hard to enable sip calls
so has anyone a define working solution for voip/sip on HTC TD? or is this half dead topic for now?
thanx
Sonic
Hi Sonic,
I have finally managed to make VOIP possible to work on my TouchD, I dont exactly remember the actual post but I will say that all the credit goes to the XDA Developer forum who has got some decent people eager to help.
Basically my problem was the TomTom's GPS com port was getting engage whenever VOIP was enabled, but finally solved the problem.
Procedure and necessary files attached (You have to only download Resco Explorer)(http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/default.asp)
Let me know please.

Hi Sonic,
I'm using SJPhone without any trouble with a Justvoip account (another Finarea voip, like VoipBuster).
I give you how I did the configuration for it:
On General, in name you put VoipBuster, Type SIP Proxy
Iniatialization: mark all in account and password
SIP Proxy: Proxy domain: sip.voipbuster.com, port 5060; User domain (your username). Mark Register with proxy and Proxy is strict outbound
on the last tab (stun) put in server address: stun.voipbuster.com with port 3478
And that's all. You need to have credit in your voipbuster account. You must put the password in the 1st time use in your SJPhone.
Cheers,
Gonzalo

i started opera to force my phone to use 3g data., and voila, the internetcalls: sip said available. like it logged into it. then i click on it and it said selected.
then i choose contact and tryed to call, it gave me error:
cannot complete the call. the signal may be unavailbe or the phone number may not be valid please try again.
i have the +45andphonenumber when i call.
hmm
Sonic
p.s i can definetly see that the GPS is completly broken now. it cant catch anything.
its a lost cause really. i have been reading about it.
and its too much hassle, unfortunatly. and it also says that when installing wm6voip it wil mess up the gps. and i need the gps so.,
im gonna skip voip on htc for now. untill maybe a proper solution comes out.
i might try SJpone with wifi sometime. but im gonna uninstall all the voip drivers now and hope that i can get my gps running,

Hi Sonic,
That is such a shame as you have already decided to quit VOIP on your device.
If you follow the instructions as it is then there is no doubt that it wouldn't work, as I have HARD-Reseted my Diamond 4 times since I have got this procedure and everytime I am going through the same procedure and everytime VOIP & TomTom GPS really works.
And yes on 3G & HSDPA connection as well as WiFi (obviously Wifi is much faster & clearer all the time)
For the issue of TODAY entry you have to use the application "2nd Today" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401907)(I can't send you the screenshot as my Diamond is off for replacement for the bloody short battery life)
Actually 2nd Today will change one of the soft key on the main/Home Tf3D screen to your defined word e.g. VOIP, once you click that soft button, the TF3D will hide and you would see your normal Today screen, on this screen you have another Soft Button to go back to TF3D. Simple
For the issue of making a call some VOIP providers indicate to attach a "9" before the number to let the provider understand that you are calling from a handheld device not from PC (e.g. actual number 555666333, Dialing number from handheld 9555666333), check your VOIP provider thay must say something regarding this.
Anyway GoodLuck

Tested. Works a treat.
It's just that sometimes, it doesn't detect when I get connected to the wifi, I have to turn internet call off and then reset it on 'whenever available' for it to sense that the phone is connected to the internet.

I have VOIP running on my Diamond from day one while using GPS in Ozi, TomTom, TrackMe and other software as you can see from attached Today screen also VOIP is active. The trick is that you need to kill one file after installing VOIP. This file DNSapi.dll is preventing you to use your GPS. After deleting it and soft reset it will create automatically a new DNSapi.dll and all will be well.
Do the following after you have VOIP installed and working. (and your GPS is killed)
In your Today screen set Internet calling OFF
Soft reset
Use file explorer or Total Commander to delete DNSapi.dll
Soft reset
Switch Internet Calling ON
Ready.
Finally! GPS stays working! Howeverrrrrrrrr... Unlike the other version of the VoIP cab I used, this one let's the sound go over the EXTERNAL speaker... and that sucks balls... (Sorry for my choice of words ) Everyone can hear what I hear...
In other words... How do I fix this? VoIP over the internal speaker AND let GPS work...
I seem to be having problems calling mobiles... Everything else works fine, including GPS...
Can I change something in the dialplan to make it work? if so, what?

You have to keep the Today Voip plugin as "Available", you have to only click and "Selected" it once you have to make a VOIP call.
In the situation of "Available" you will still be able to receive the VOIP & normal calls.
In other word, if you will select the voip then you can not use the normal phone.
So keep it on "Available".

Yes this is the problem and I think there is no solution for that untill unless you try to use a Bluetooth headset (I haven't tried this idea by myself).
Let me know if you try this option.

VOIP/SIP Clients for HD2

Hi Guys,
Looking for some VOIP/SIP clients for HD2, anything other than PortSIP, Fring or AGEMobile would be preferable!
Going overseas tomorrow and my PortSIP stopped working and wont start working again so trying to find a program that's just as good AND easy to setup as PortSIP (Agemobile confused the hell out of me)
thanks,
Zhuk86
+1 I am in a similar boat. Looking for a stable VoIP solution to work on my HD2.
Ideally, I would love tight integration with the standard WinMo dialer.
+1. Same here!
sip client for hd2
need also a stable sip sofrware for hd2 +1
thnks for help
I tried PortSIP recently on my phoneset, and it works fine. However, as in my grief with all these SIP clients products, I fancy very tight SIP integration with existing Phone Dialer, with the option of editing Dial Plans to define outgoing call rules (was it IPDialPlan.xml ?). I heard this is how it used to be with WM5, but somehow operators have scrapped it out of ROMs in WM6.5.
Ideally, I should just dial my telephone numbers from phone, and based on the dial plan, the phone should direct calls either on SIP or Mobile Network. Am I asking for too much here?
[Loud Thinking]
I am going to bring my trusty old O2 XDA Exec out and put WM5 back on it, and then see if the SIP client can be (easily) configured on it.

How does it work on Gingerbread?
Do you need a Gizmo5 / Sipgate account etc?

I believe its just there for applications that wish to take advantage of it,
It's in Call Settings/Internet Call settings. You will need some sort of VOIP account.
Works well. You can set it to dial out using that account with various parameters, and choose to use that account to receive calls.
Works well.

what's the battery usage?
can you set it to register to the sip gateway only when on wifi or policies like that?

It seems to work with the new SIP that comes with Nexus S. BUT..After studying all the documentation and going thru all the screens it appears that it will only work of wifi? So, I removed all my info on that sip account on the Nexus S and installed the Sipdroid/Gizmo5/GVCall back as per your previous post on the "how to". This method gives me the option of wifi OR 3G. It appears to work . The little green led shows up on top (it does not when using the new SIP stuff on Nexus S) so everything appears to be configured correctly. I have not fully tested it but my bet is that it will work over both wifi and 3G unless of course TMobile somehow prevents this.
I actually ended up going to Best Buy last night to check out the Nexus S
The SIP stuff is in the settings, with not too many options. And yes, you have to put in an account. It does nothing unless you have your own SIP account. (What a letdown, Google.) So basically it's just an integrated SipDroid app into the OS, but with very, very few options.
Of course I didn't want to put in my own Gizmo account details into the Best Buy display phone (it didn't have internet access anyway... Best Buy Fail), so I couldn't test it. But there's an option to select when to use VoIP and I forget but the option to select "All Calls" says right next to it "Wifi only" or something.
So I'd imagine this is pretty much useless because
A) It won't allow 3G VoIP
B) For those using VoIP before, other apps (such as CSipSimple) have WAAAAY more options.
C) And in terms of networking/etc, they might even function better since they've been around longer and have been optimized/etc. (Of course, I didn't test that, but just going by CSipSimple's settings menu, there seems to be a lot of customization/options/features.)
Oh yeah, in case anyone's interested:
[Guide] Unlimited Wifi/3G VoIP Calling
How's the battery life using the integrated sip?
I've seen my battery cut by almost half for using CSipDroid and was hoping an integrated SIP, as basic as it is, wouldn't drain the battery that much.
Wonder what call & connection quality is like too??
A very limited unscientific test, but calling in to a conference call today using the built-in SIP client resulted in everybody but me hearing an echo. Using a SPA2102 on the same Internet connection resulted in a clear call with no echo. I've done a lot of tests using my Vibrant and could never get the quality acceptable for SIP calls without echo and still be able to hear the other party. The Nexus S so far has performed better, but in my opinion from limited tests still suffers the same type of issue.
Well, I did some more testing today as my previous test was just a quickie-that is with the "Sipdroid/Gizmo5/GVcallback" method. With that method I could ring to/from another phone BUT when I tested further, I could only talk/hear from one end while the other phone could hear me, I could NOT hear anything that they were saying. When using the resident SIP that comes with the Nexus S, I could hear/talk on both ends (my Nexus to another phone) over wifi of course. I don't know if this is coming off my minutes yet and will check later today to see that.
So it seems that indeed one can only "Sip" call from the Nexus S via wifi with the SIP that comes resident with the Nexus S. Of course with Sipdroid there are a lot of other settings that I have not explored and maybe it needs to be tweaked? But for now, I am gonna stick with the resident SIP in the Nexus S.
An interesting thing also is that I tried the app "Fring" on my Nexus and that did not work correctly either on my Nexus S.

Thank you to everyone here for posting some really useful information about Android 2.3 and SIP. I have a sipgate account and the day I bought my Nexus S (I stood in line in cold weather in the morning to get it), shortly after I brought it back to my office, I was able to "just barely" get it to work with my sipgate account. By "just barely" I mean that I was able to place a few outgoing calls but the latency was so extreme there is no way I could use it again. Now what is quite amusing is that I also have a 2008 unlocked Nokia E71 running Symbian (which has a pretty decent built-in SIP stack in its firmware from Nokia (this is before Nokia caved to the mobile telecoms and started to remove their SIP stack from their smart phones). Well well well, I have *zero* problems with my E71 and my sipgate account (other than some latency but the latency I can pretty much live with, I just have to make sure I don't cut off the other person speaking during a conversation and wait for them to finish their point). Actually, latency is really undesirable but the point being is that the Nexus S is my first Android phone and one of the selling points is Android 2.3 built in SIP stack bundled with the unlocked no-contract Nexus S (I paid full price at Best Buy) and for all the cackling and hoopla Google has been doing on their web sites about Nexus S built-in SIP, that I can't get it to work with sipgate buy my Symbian E71 works with sipgate pretty nicely, this is egg on the face of Google and they should be admonished for their marketing faux pas on SIP / VOIP in Nexus S. It makes me wonder if Google is somehow trying to cripple the built-in SIP stack and configuration options on the Nexus S such as to possibly somehow tilt the playing field to favor Google Voice (I.e., forget VOIP on your Nexus S, just get a mobile carrier service on 3G like T-Mobile account and then maximize the heck out of our Google Voice service). Don't get me wrong, I appreciate Google Voice, but if you're going to put YouTube videos together to promote open protocols, user choice, "Pure Google" and so on, at least make your SIP stack on par with the often lately made-fun-of Symbian which has a superior SIP stack and SIP configuration UI options on the Nokia E71 compared to the Nexus S!
note to Google: don't blame sipgate, this is an Android SIP stack and configuration issue.
Question:
When you call out, what number does it show as caller ID?
Your cell number?
Google Voice number?
SIP number?
Other?
Nexus S VOIP
I was able to setup my Nexus S to work with my VOIP provider Callcentric. The built in Google Nexus S SIP stack only works on Wifi & not with 3G. You can place SIP calls on Wifi with no additional applications installed as long as you have a account with any VOIP provider who uses/allows SIP.
I used Nokia N97 & N95 for years for making & receiving SIP calls with 3G but the voice quality is usually poor on 3G networks.
Using the native Google Nexus S SIP stack on Wifi I called my parents in India, I used it for approximately 45 minutes, the call quality is not as good when compared with the call quality using Nokia N97 on Wifi networks. The volume is very low even when I turned the Nexus S Speakerphone on and set the volume to maximum. I heard echo most of the time when I was talking, the other side had no issues with echo.
The SIP stack on Nexus S needs some work and I am sure there will be more customization features added in the future. I'd not blame google on the missing 3G voip feature yet as my previous experience on 3G sip calls with Nokia weren't too great. Nokia had sip enabled phones for years and it is still not perfect when making calls on 3G network.
Finally when making calls using SIP the other party sees your SIP number. If your VOIP provider allows it, you can customize your outgoing number to display your cell phone number or any other custom number.
My phone fails registration on Callcentric. Any idea why?

Errors in registration may be due to multiple reasons. With the limited number of options we have for settings, my guess would be either incorrect login information or wrong transport type selection.
