GINGERBREAD 2.3 build for us tonight.. Not a theme... but the real deal the actual AOSP full rom.. so stay tuned

Is it full Gingerbread, or just sprinkles of it?

Sounds like a full AOSP build of gingerbread.
Sounds very interesting

Interesting...heard this ROM is still quite buggy.

That would make my day.

SWEET!
doubt it's gonna be a fully working build. but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this for when a fully working build is released

Me likey.

its taken from the gingerbread source code, so its the actual AOSP rom.. not hacked up bits and peices, but a direct port from source

It can't be a direct port, because gingerbread uses. 35 kernel and we are stuck with a. 32 kernel...
Its just gingerbread parts built from source I would gather.
U can't port the whole thing without the kernel.

so. stoked.

is there an ETA for tonight? I see the 3.0 beta's have been posted.

idk where the OP gets his info because nothing, i repeat, NOTHING, has been said about the x yet but since other 3..0.0 betas have been released we could hope for the x 3.0 soon

Yeah I checked ultimatedroids twitter and didn't see anything.

We sure have seen a lot of crying wolf about this ROM.

11:59 hurry up!

As someone else mentioned, I don't see how this can be called a "true" gingerbread ROM without the newest kernel, etc to go along with it. Sounds more like applications taken from the source and changed to work on 2.2.1.

just curious as to the status on these, havent heard much in a while, not pushing anyone just curious
installed stock froyo on my friends droid and loved it myself, so fast
Yea I am in the same boat. If a FROYO rom based off the source is released in the next few days Ill want to try it if not I'm going to try out KaosFroyo V10.
i have a feeling that as soon as kaos gets froyo perfect that then they will start from there, beings that we don't seem to be getting an official OTA update.

I believe some devs are working with the source that Google released for 2.2. While kayo's is based of a dump from another phone that is being ported.

currently wifi, blue tooth, gps, jit and mms don't work. possibly camera too, not sure. other than that it is a very smooth build. kaos is on vacation until next Monday i think he said, so won't be any updates until then.
also shouldn't be too much longer til cyanogen 6.0 comes out, cyan froyo.

You have to understand 2.2 wasnt made for our phones. Kaos is working on it.. Patience... trust me we at AndIRC are very anxious for more improvement on this rom.
I have been using Cyanogen Eris Lightning Bolt 2.7 and it is a terrific rom. Once the good folks over at cyanogenmod.com release their froyo port the dev said he will begin work for the next update of lightning bolt. In the mean time I seriously suggest you check out this rom. Should be about a week.

That was my understanding at least. Because as soon as the source was released we had sound and lights and overclocking. But honestly the cyanogen mod froyo release gives me goosebumps to think about how jit is honestly going to react once its on the correct setup.

Any Developer Interested in A Official Cyanogenmod Rom?

I noticed lately that the supported devices officially for cyanogenmod is getting bigger and bigger, so maybe one of you guys can talk to cyanogen bout joinin his team.. i remember from his website he had this to say recently:
"A lot of people ask me about adding support for their phone, but we can only support phones that we actually own. The CM team is always looking for new hackers to join up with us to add support for their favorite device. Get in touch with me if you’d like to help."
I know that there is roms pretty much quality and as up to date as an official cyanogenmod, but these roms are only limited by the website its on. unfortunately not everyone knows about xda (shocking thought, since im on here daily).
i hope the big devs for the eris reads this, for im sure its a good idea.....
Honestly the Roms that get handed out here are better than Cyanogen in that the people that make them implement their own tweaks inside the core of the rom that make them better. I personally WOULD use an official Cyanogen rom because who knows maybe its more stable and all, but still.
Since he already plays the role with his kernel and vendor tree, I vote for Canop
Canop for Cyanogenmod!

I vote Conap too! lol
I'm not really sure of much added benefit from "official" cm releases other than the ability to flash a nightly build every day. Most of the devs build their rom directly from cm source or port the nightles. With the way it is now you have a choice of many custom cm roms whereas some devices with "official" cm support only have the cm release.
Sent from my nonsensikal froyo
I've wondered about this too, but like others have said... We are probably better off the way it is now or at least not any worse off. The Hero builds are relatively easy to port and building from source has been worked out pretty well, so it doesn't really matter if we have an 'official' one.
+1 for Conap.

Gingerbread was released for Nexus One today...anyone know how long till it hits G2 owners? Being a vanilla phone shouldnt we be next?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Since G2 is an official T-Mo phone, all depends on T-Mo's mood I guess...
It'll be out as a custom ROM sooner than as an official update, I would expect.
Def give it a couple of days let the devs go through the sdk.. Its gonna be a little work moving it over to the g2 because of the physical keyboard and also all the new additions like voip, gyroscope, nfc and all that they gotta make it all work so give it a couple days.. Maybe even something quick tonight..

Yeah. Although honestly, I'm kinda loving the Desire Z ROM - I don't know if I can go back to the stock camera app, frankly. From the SDK screenshots on the Google blog, it doesn't look like there's any real changes there, either.
Actually, we could be waiting a while. According to cyanogen as well as a lott of other devs, the g2 isn't as vanilla as first thought. There's a lot of HTC crap over it and someof the stuff is designed to look like stock while being something else entirely. The point is, it could take a while for us to get it......at least officially....

The SDK isn't the source code though, just the stuff to help you develop Android apps.
Anyone know when the source code usually gets released ? Will it be the day the Nexus S ships ? Or before/after ?
They said it would be coming soon but they said the same for the announcement of 2.3 and that wait felt like forever.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
As a general rule newer versions of android are merged into aosp within a few weeks to a month after the sdk. At least that's what we've historically seen.
It is possible and fairly easy to create a port from the sdk however it tends to be buggy at best.
Once we get a link from an ota from the nexus one we should be able to put together a proper port.
If you're waiting for Cyanogenmod you'll be waiting til 2.3 hita aosp as steve and company build directly from the source.

T-Mobile reps told me when I bought the G2 that it was going to be getting the OTAs first, along with the MT4G. So you can possibly expect enomther to release it first.

Source? Source for what? Whether the G2 is stock android? That isn't speculation, at this point its a fact that it isn't "clean" android. If you want to be sure of that, just read cyanogens posts in his thread or the nightly discussions. Gingerbread will need to be ported to this phone just like with any phone running a custom ui albeit faster though because HTC didn't go as far as a whole custom ui. Regardless, I would be willing to bet that gingerbread source is released and ported to cyanogenmod before the G2 gets an OTA.

Even if the stock G2 rom isn't quite as pure as it looks, should that even matter? Isn't the point of something like CM to get AOSP to run on the phone? I was under the impression that CM included very few hacks that are device specific.

No, it doesn't matter if your phone is rooted and running a custom rom. I was reffering to the delay for an official gingerbread OTA. That's why I said it would be ported to CM before its officially ported to the G2.

Gingerbread is not out for the Nexus One yet. Also once the source for it is released then the rom makers can start working on it

All the Epic ROM's with the exception of MIUI and CM7 are NOT compiled from source code.
They are merely customizations and hacking based off of the compiled libraries. It would likely be impossible to reverse engineer this into any of the ROM's. It would need to be done in Smali... if that's even possible..
Syndicate is in fact compiled from source if I'm not mistaken, that's why they always wait for a few days source leaks to release.

I did "bother" to read it. It's Froyo source code to implement this feature. We don't have 100% of Samsungs source code for Froyo/Eclair/Gingerbread, they don't release it.
We only receive the kernel source code. This could only be baked into a Froyo based AOSP ROM which other then the very dated CM6 we do not have.
The kernel source code and the entire operating system (AOSP) are two completely different things, and the code to make this work isn't in the Kernel it's in the Framework.
ACS's ROM is not AOSP.
AOSP: Android Open Source Project - I'm using it to reference having the entire operating system's source code available, not just the kernel.
I wasnt aware that only the kernal source was released. What a bummer if a sony X8 can do this but our epic cant without gingerbread
Yeah just the way it is...
Most phones don't have 100% complete source drops, the popular two phones that do of course are the Nexus One and Nexus S, this is why the Nexus phones so easily get ROM's like CyanogenMod working. With the Epic and Galaxy S developers are forced to "rewrite" lots of code to get things interfacing with the Samsung proprietary drivers properly.
If we had 100% of the source code I don't doubt ROM's would be very different today, there would have also been a official CyanogenMod by now I'm sure.
If you want to see for yourself what Samsung releases you can go to:
https://opensource.samsung.com/
Do a search for I9000 for example and download one of the releases (I looked at I-9000-Opensource.zip)
You will see a few files in there.. one labeled kernel, the other eclair.
The kernel one is obvious, the eclair one contains only the hardware libraries.
So unfortunately, this really isn't possible in any of our existing Froyo ROM's, except CM6.
PS: I9000 is the model number for the European Galaxy S.

fards,
First, I really appreciate what you've done to make our Streaks performing better, as the likes of DJ_Steve, Krad, Spidla, and others. Your dedication to the dev of this great device has been invaluable. I did think before posting my comment. I know there have been communications around gingerbread coming to Dell Streak during the winter and that the source code had been posted which DJ_Steve had utilized in this ROM, but having said that there is no definitive answer to this question until the update is pushed out to us. If you read my comment you will notice that I stated that I don't think that there will be an official GB build. I hope that we get it, obviously, I'm just "don't believe it til I see it" kind of guy.
I would like to state again that I really respect your work and hope you will see the slight difference in the point I was making.

I would recommend the version of Ice Cream Sandwich my Streak is running but i would get kicked out of the testing program. But it works really well, you should see the beta version of Google space maps it includes and it will stream music from any source within 50 miles in stealth mode!
