[Q] Please help me, I'm having problems - Omnia II General

Hello evreyone.
I'm having a bit of a problem with my Samsung Omia II I8000.
I just got it from a friend of mine, and for 24 days or so it has been working great!
Really loved the phone untill the next thing happened:
I was playing a game on it, and I suddenley saw my phone didn't have connection with my provider. (Vodafone NL)
From that moment I thought it was strange, so I did a soft reset.
Nothing happend, still no connection, I did a hard reset.
Again, nothing happend, then I did a clean reset, and as you can guess... Still no connection.
I don't know if this sound fammiliar to you, but can you guys please help a man out?
Last thing i'm waiting for is buying a new phone.
Also the other things I tried:
-Opened the case, looking for the antenna wire, but it was still attached.
-Looked for a firmware update by looking at new pc studio, but it had the latest installed.
And somthing diffrent that might help you out, my wifi is working great, I don't now if that matters or not, but just to let you know..
Again: I REALLY,REALLY hope you guys can help me out!
Greetings, Olav

Have you tried either your sim card in a another phone to rule out the fact that your sim card is dead. And also have you tried another sim card in your phone just to verify that its not the sim card?
I will do these two things first before proceeding to do anything else.
I had a similar issue with my phone and was able to solve it by changing the sim card.

o2 xda executive sim card problems

hi im due to buy an o2 xda executive heres what the guy has put in the advert
( It has one significant fault which means the phone functions do not work, as it has difficulty in recognising when a SIM card is inserted. I have used it with O2 and Vodafone SIMs and it was sold to me as unlocked, but most of the time now it says a SIM is not inserted, even when it is.)
what i want to know is does anyone know if this is a common problem and is it easy sorted is it ususaly software or hardware related and is it worth buying if the price is right then geting fixed or is it a problem easily sorted something i could do myself
btw i need help quick if possible before it sells
thanks
Talking about phones in general.. this is usualy a hardware problem.
Perhaps you could find out how old the unit is and (if under a year) claim off the warrenty?
thanks
ahhh cool thanks for your reply
i was just thinking the guy emailed me and said he reset the device to wipe all his info off it and now its showing that it has a sim card in it but he has done this before and it goes back to how it was (showing no sim card )
my question is wouldnt this point more towards a software problem rather than a hardware problem
help update please
right i got the thing now it wont work with an o2 sim
so i popped a vodaphone on in and it worked for a while
then i took sim out looked at sim holder and sim contacts and all looks perfect so i put the vodafone sim back in and im back to the invalid or missing sim card error what next guys ?
when the device boots up i get these three things on the screen
r 1.04.02
g 42.37.p8
d 1.13.82 wwe
i suppose thats the 3 things you were teling me about ?
could someone point me in the direction to the files i need and the order i need to put them on ?
and mabey a quick readthough or point me in the direction of a post relating to this problem
i get similar things when my xda boots too. I am pretty sure everyone does. Does it display an error message with the O2 sim in? Providing the phone is unlocked to all networks, this shouldnt cause a problem.
TBH I cant see that it not reading the sim could be a software problem (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). Even though the contacts look clean, you could try cleaning them anyway. I use the rubber-end of a pencil, or an elastic band if I cant find one. But dont go rubbing the contacts away altogether.. lol
ah right sorry ignore the (suppose thats the 3 things you were teling me about ?) bit in the post that bit was for another forum the reason why i typed all the info on where the thing boots up is because someone told me the radio may be corrupt and to reinstall or install the newest one so thats why i typed all that info and i was wondering where to get the files from in what order to do them and was there a sticky and where is my bloody pencil with a rubber on it !
Just to confirm, you ARE using a 3G sim, right? I don't think it works with normal sims
3g ?
no im not using a 3g sim but the vodafone one i tried worked for a while and that was not 3g i have also cleaned the sim card contacts and the phones contacts to no avail
i have also just unlocked it using the HTC_Universal_Radio_for_SIMunlock_v0.00.00 file
still wont recognise my sim
someone mentioned elsewhere that the radio stack was possibly messed up and i wouldnt be able to use the wireless connection ? but i can so that rules that out ? so its possbily hardware related but all looks ok inside

FYI mine worked fine with a normal O2 sim, bar the 3G stuff ofc
suggestion
try putting a piece of paper between the sim and the battery to push it down a bit. Its a longshot but I know of someone who had a similar problem and it was solved like that.
Hi
That's right try to use a piece of paper stick right behind the sim card to push aginst the sim card to force a good contact, but before doing so try to use a Q tip and small amount of rubbing Alcohol to clean the sim slot metal contacts because from time to time the metal contact might being oxidize and preventing it from a good contact with the sim card. If after trying all this still not work than you might want to try flash it with a new Rom.
any ideas what next please
hi
i have tried the paper behind the sim i have tried the cleaning of the contacts and i have upgraded the radio so as the title says any ideas what to try next as none of thme make my universal think theres a sim in it it just says missing or invalid sim ?
also at the moment my radio is 00000000 so its unlocked but if iwanted to upgrade it whats the best one to upgrade too ?
is it either UNI_radio_1[1].08.00 or is it best to upgrade to UNI_radio_1[1].09.00
and what do i do with the nbf file ? is there an upgrade program please
update
hi all
today ithought i would try a vodaphone sim out of my works phone in the universal and after 3 resets it worked the phone kept a signal for about half an hour then went back to the invalid or missing sim error so i put it in flight mode then turned flight mode off and the thing worked for the next 5 hours but now after leaving it alone for half an hour im back to the error ?
anyone any ideas please
another update
hi
last night i flashed my universal with the sim card in and when it booted up the phone was working there was a strong signal e.c.t. it stayed on for hours but when i got up in the morning and checked it it said missing or invalid sim card so i put it in flight mode then turned flight mode off and it started working again it has now been on for like 3 hours so has anyone got any ideas why it keeps coming up with this missing or invalid simcard error because i would like to get it fixed
i havnt got a clue what im talking about but could it be the antenna or something ? or is there something else i could try
thanks for all your help so far
morestyles
cmon guys please
hasnt no one got any ideas ???????????
after i flashed it it can stay on for hours even the full day but then i get sim isnt inserted error
plz plz plz help !

Sim card issue

Hello guys
I'm having an issue when my x10 says there's no Sim card inside and the problem isn't with my Sim card since I tried in my old phone and it works. Even other Rogers Sim card don't work. Anyway I tried taking the battery out and after 3 attempt its working again. So, I want to know anyone else having the same problem and what's the solution?

I had the same issue but mine was a little different. My Xperia would not accept my rogers Sim ( 3 years old ) but it worked fine in all my other handsets.. it was the Sim card in my case and I was surprised to have it replaced free of charge.. also I found that some of the Sims are thinner than others so they would not have enough pressure to make a good contact. A quick fix from my friends Nokia was some clear tape on the back of his sim and it worked perfect.
Good luck!

TMobile's customer service department told me to bend the sim card very gently to ensure good contacts are made. Did this on first day and not had any problems since (famous last words... I'll be digging out the tape by tomorrow!)
My Sim card is like 5 year old anyway It's working now

All u guys with 5yr old simcards need to get rid of them! Those have like 28kb of storage on them, so their phone books are so, so limited!
I know! U use the phones memory, which is a whooooooole bunch! But if your phone ever crashed, all your contacts will be gone! U cannot always copy the entire list of contacts to the sim card, but with a newer 3G simcard, you can copy a lot more than your 5yr old sim card can hold.
These are free! Just walk into your provider's store and request a new simcard. U dont even have to show them what kind of phone u have (ahem!... those of us who are skimming with grandfathered data plans ). Just walk in and say "left my phone at work, but I need a simcard".
I think this thread will help you
as it does for me

I checked that thread, but I hadn't rooted my x10a yet. Going waiting until something extraordinary happens
Someday I will change my sim card lol

[Q] [HD2] Antenna exclamation mark and 'SIM card is missing' issues

Hello all, I bought a used HD2 off CL (USA), hoping to unlock it (if locked) and use it with my ATT prepaid sim.
Outwardly, the phone looks fine and everything about it works quite nicely, EXCEPT that when I insert my SIM card and start the phone, it shows me an exclamation mark on the antenna icon. When I disable all wireless connections and then re-enable it, the icon now changes to the SIM card icon with an 'x' next to it, and I am shown a screen with a keypad and the following message: 'The SIM card is missing. You can still make emergency calls if your service provider supports it.'
Thinking it was a ROM issue, I successfully loaded the latest ROM from [showthread.php?t=789506] but it did not resolve the issue. There is no issue with the SIM because it works nicely with my AT&T Samsung a607. There are no signal strength issues either.
Please help!
Can someone please provide some insight on my situation? I hope I haven't posted in the wrong forum; if so, mods may move it to the appropriate place.
Any advice on diagnosing the issue will be appreciated; I don't even know why the phone is acting the way it is. Many thanks!
Wait a moment, so your device isnt already SIM unlocked? Sounds to me like you need to go ahead and get an unlock code for it, then navigate to the \Windows folder and hit up the program called "simlock.exe" and input your unlock code, then try your ATT SIM again.
Thanks much for the reply. Other phones usually prompt for a SIM unlock code by themselves... why doesn't this one?
Running simlock.exe from Windows does give me the message "Network is locked, please input unlock code". Before I buy the code, I want to make sure that there's nothing physically wrong with the phone. It should give me at least *some* sign that my SIM is being recognized, but rejected due to network-locking, no?
Thanks again!
See thats the thing. With a foreign SIM card in the device, IF LOCKED, simlock.exe should run automatically on startup and ask for the code....so honestly I do not know if your device is messed up somehow, or if its just being wonky for the sake of being wonky. Perhaps you might want to flash a new Radio ROM and see if it then recognizes your SIM. BE SURE to NOT flash one with .51 in its name.
Thanks again. Can you point to a thread with detailed instructions for flashing a new radio ROM for my device? I found many threads while searching and I am confused. I don't want to choose the wrong instructions and brick this device; I haven't done anything of this sort before.
Look at the top of these forums for a stickie by Snarksneeze that will teach you everything you need to know.
Hi again... I don't have a spare 8GB MicroSD card lying around. Is there any way I can do this flashing over USB? I did read that there's a risk associated with flashing over USB (cable yanks, power loss, etc.) but I did flash the newest ROM without any issue, and hopefully I can do the same for the new Radio ROM.
The Radio version shown in the 'About Phone' section is 2.14.50.04, btw.
You can use your 16GB that came with the phone, or any other one for that matter. That requirement is more of a recomendation really. I have flashed with my stock 16GB many times. And yes, you can do it via USB aswell.
OK, so I have more information about the problem. I got the phone unlocked (I heartily recommend 'fastunlocker' on eBay) thinking that it would solve the issue... but it didn't. But, on a lark, I tried my friend's post-paid T-Mobile SIM in the HD2 and it worked! My AT&T pre-paid SIM does not... can this be a problem? The damn thing works nicely in other (unlocked) phones.
Is anyone else successfully using a AT&T GoPhone (prepaid) SIM on a TMOUS HTC HD2?
It may very well be the problem then. I have heard that some phones are incompatible with pre-paid SIMs.
God, that would suck donkeyballs. Can someone confirm that an unlocked TMOUS HD2 does not work with AT&T GoPhone prepaid SIMs?
had this same exact issue and realized that one of the pins in the sim card reader was stuck in the down position. I poked it with a small screwdriver and it popped back into place. works like a charm now.
Thanks for the reply. Are you sure this is the issue? As I mentioned in a previous post in this thread, my friend's T-Mobile SIM works nicely with the phone.
EDIT: Also, are you using it with an AT&T GoPhone SIM?
Bump... anyone?
Final bump: maybe I am SOL. :'(
Is anyone successfully using a TMOUS HD2 with an AT&T Prepaid (GoPhone) SIM?
Give it some time. Sometimes threads at XDA stay dormant for months and then suddenly BAM! a breakthrough happens.
I would say its your sim. How old is it?
I had the exact same problem. I bought a HD2 off cl and put my sim in and got the no sim message and exclamation point. I was using a sim from the voicesteam days but guess what it worked just fine in the Nexus one I had just gotten so I figured it had to be the phone. I finally used a friends sim and it worked fine. So I would turn the phone off in settings then slip his sim out with the battery still in and put my sim in and turn the phone back on. Guess what, it would work for about 10 min then it would suddenly go back to no sim message. So I went and got a new sim from T-Mobile and walla works like a charm. So try what I did and if you end up with the same problem try a new sim from AT&T. I don't know what is different about the HD2 but there something about the older sims that it doesn't like.
Hope that helps!
Hey... thanks for ther reply! My SIM is brand new (about two weeks old). I will however go to the AT&T store and get it replaced to see if it fixes the problem. Thanks again, I appreciate it.
Dear look my problem...

I have that problem with my G1. Sometimes it recognizes my sim card and sometimes it doesn't, but once it does it keeps working and doesn't think I took out my sim card.
This thread is idiotic.
1) The OP **DID** try it without a simcard in.
2) It *DID* start up and worked just fine (though obviously wouldn't make phone calls).
HE DIDN'T ASK A QUESTION, HE MADE A STATEMENT.
A statement of ZERO value.
And followed it up by ANOTHER statement that has the same value as the first.... when it has no simcard, it says that it has no simcard.... well gee, I wonder why that might be?

No SIM detected - Stock Rom 4.2.2

Hi guys, came here to ask for your help and advices as im really desperate. Im a common reader of this forums but sadly this is my first post.
My N4 stop detecting my MicroSIM, i went to my carrier to ask for a replacement (they cut a SIM into a MicroSIM) and the problem still remain.
Im on stock rom 4.2.2, never rooted.
Im from Argentina (the new Pope country , and a friend bring me the N4 for me. Since i have it (begining of february) everything works fine, lose signal every now and then but nothing to worry about. But suddenly, the last monday stop detecting my SIM and there is no way i can make it work.
When i look for available networks in my phone after a while the 3 carriers of my country appears but when i tap on my carrier and after a while of thinking this messages pop up: Your SIM doesn't allow the connection to that network
In the APN section of my N4 there is nothing, and i can't create a new one. Before this happen i could do it.
Here's the things i've already tried:
- Switch on/off and Airplane mode on/off
- Replace the MicroSim with another of the same carrier
- Factory Reset from configuration options in the device (with and without the SIM on it)
- Factory Image Reset from Google 4.2.2 JDQ39 (with Google Nexus 4 Toolkit v1.3.0, thanks to mskip for that piece of work)
Here's the things im not tried yet:
- Put a working MicroSim from another carrier (it's really hard to fin someone whit a microsim here, that's why i couldn't do it yet)
- Change baseband (in another forum told me that but i don't know how to do that)
I really don't know what to think, it's the IMEI? the radio? the baseband? the 4.2.2 update? the carrier?
Hope someone could throw me a bone, a lead, something that help me solve this problem.
Thanks in advance and sorry for my poor writing.
nobody?
question: if i flash a custom rom (like PA), that will help in any way?

Most of the problems I read like this are solved by using a real micro sim. The N4 doesn't like cut sims.
Correct, flashing a rom will do nothing but replace a kernel. Think of ROMS like an OS of sorts. But what you are describing, will require an uncut micro sim to verify if it is indeed your sim or not.

Yes, you are right. I'll try to verify with a real micro sim first, but if i do that and the problem persist what would you recommend me to do? considering the things i've already tried.
thanks for your responses guys.

The N4 is known to have issues with cut down SIM cards. Most likely they are not seated correctly and not making proper contact.
If an actual MicroSIM does not work, you would need to RMA the phone (bad SIM slot).
FINALLY!!!! all of you were right. I went to my carrier this morning and requested for a real micro sim, that simple solution solved my problem.
That's what i should have done in the first place, i feel like a noob right now but i do not care, im a happy noob today !!!
Im really greatful to all of you guys, thank you very much.
