Gorilla Glass my Donkey

I am now the proud owner of an epic with the bottom half of the glass cracked lookin like an ipod that fell on its face from 3 feet.
To be fair, I went almost 2 years without anything more than a random scratch on the glass, but still....gorilla glass was a major selling point for me and its useless.
Atleast its not cutting my fingers lol if I was blind I wouldn't know it was cracked so maybe it cracked from the inside out? Idk but its cracked and crack is whack.

It's Gorilla Glass because it's ultra-scratch resistant, not because it's unbreakable.
Even diamonds can be broken.

Dude don't tell me its not useful. Here's the story of my Epic 4G.
i have 3 scratches on screen barely visible, only can tell when you hold to the side. normal viewing; you cant see it. it had fell out of my pocket when i was taking out slid across concrete for about 3 feet and thats it.
I have a tiny dent on the bottom of my phone it happen when i got of my car and was walking to my door and all of suddenly it flew out of my hand and landed standing up on brick and bounced and slammed across the brick.
i have some scratches on the top left of the silverish part from falling down, sliding across any surface it touches.
This phone is durable regardless of this amazing Glass.
Try that on an iPhone! HAHA Good Luck, either that or any tft lcd screen.

Lol I'm not attacking the durability of the phone, I brag about it. My phone has been dropped and tossed so many times and I had at most a scratch on the "chrome" lawlawlawl. I just got so used to it that when it dropped on its face I casually picked it up and was horrified lol I'm not used to my epic getting hut its definitely time for a new one though. My speaker died about a week ago. I just don't want that cheap ass GS3 and the evo lte has problems....
And dude that questioned normal glass, my hero didn't have gorilla glass and I dropped it into the train tracks and when I got it up the only damage was the paint scratched off of the physical call button, but then again I was a lot more careful with it because it didn't have anything special lol

Gorilla glass was supposed to be scratch resistant, which means it was actually more brittle and easier to crack. It's not a miracle material, it has it's draw backs too

i got so baked one night i forgot to close my garage, didn't even remember driving home
when i woke up i realized i didn't have my phone either
outside the garage i found the phone leaning on a rock face down
apparently the phone was in my lap and flung out when i got out of the car.

lol thats why i was horrified to see it finally gave in, because it fell so many times face down (i even challenged my friend with his iphone 4 to a throw test to see if he really believed that iphones wont break, needless to say I tossed my phone to show him just how frail his iphone really is because he refused to throw it the way i did even though my phone walked away harmless)
i just thought gorilla glass was indestructible, prolly cuz i associated that with "scratch resistant" lolololol but uptill now i believed it lolol

probably not but I'm sure you could find a replacement display on eBay or something. Then replace it yourself.

I love my Epic's screen! It's been almost two years and there is no damage! I'm looking forward to the GSIII with Gorilla Glass 2!

Share your broken screen stories

Supposedly this is the toughest top tier phone out there right now.
I want to hear about your stories of actually damaging the phone. Haven't seen many yet, but they have to be out there. Broken screen, broken chassis, any type of permanent damage - except for screen scratches. Rock, concrete, sand - these will scratch any and all screen out there, so no need to share those!

volunteer firefighter here and was about to leave my firehouse after a call when the phone slipped out of my hand and fell hitting bottom first...landed with screen up and I didn't even have to pick it up before I realized she didn't make it. the actual glass didn't break at all but underneath there's a bunch of cracks to the screen and only the top half of the screen works now

My situation doesn't quite qualify, but after just a few days I pulled the phone out of my pocket to realize it had a hairline scratch going across the middle of the screen. I'm sure it was a bit of sand or something (I don't keep anything else in that pocket), but I haven't had a screen scratch on any of the recent generations of gorilla glass so I was surprised to see it.

Just cracked my screen yesterday morning, dropped it on the driveway as I was getting out of my Jeep. Off to Motorola for $200 repair. My recommendation to everyone here: GET THE MOTOROLA INSURANCE. I wish I had known of it earlier. I think it's $89 for two years and a $39 deductible.

I don't think that's available for the Verizon Moto X. You have to do weird stuff with Asurion instead, at which point, I don't believe your replacement can be a custom Motomaker device.

No broken screen but I have dropped it 3 times onto concrete and gravel. The time it fell onto gravel I forgot I had it on my lap and it fell face down while getting out my truck. These drops have resulted in two nicks on the plastic surrounding the screen and a faint mark on the glass. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the durability of the X.

I had dropped it three times, all of them front facing the floor. Two on the street and one on a marble floor.
One of them it fell with the corner right onto my toe, and it slided front facing the kitchen floor. I've had a dislocation in that toe. The phone is good though.

I dropped mine from the top of a ten foot ladder bottom of phone hit and glass is cracked but still works overall 8/10 sad for breaking my awesome phone

You all need the otter box defender on your next phone....in the holster.
12 foot drop today onto concrete floor at work from a ladder, phone and holster....and it landed just right that it didn't even come out of the holster. Tiny scratches on holster....nothing else.

Rather pay my insurance deductible then have a giant otter box on such a beautiful device . this is my first phone I've ever broken so my track record is good
I personally don't understand why people like those otterboxes but I see them everywhere.

Cause some people could care less what the phone looks like.... As long as it's safe. It's not a showpiece.... To me anyway. It's a tool.

I keep my phone in my pocket and cases thicken it too much for my liking--size was one reason I picked the X over the N5. this is the first screen I've broken too. Just bad luck and carelessness this time. I will say that this is heavier than my last phone which means more force upon impact unfortunately.

Slightly OT but if you do drop your phone try and catch it with your foot. Your natural instinct is to catch it with your hands but it will drop too quickly. So if you drop it try to catch it with your foot, I've successfully done this a few times, and it greatly reduces the speed and therefore the chances of a bad breakage.

Dropped my DInc at lake Havasu cracked the screen then I got glass splinters when trying to use it haha. 2 days after I tool my screen protector off

Close Call, But Happy Results

I was at the Home Depot yesterday, and my phone was in my back pocket. I was jogging to catch up with my fiancee and my phone jumped out of my back pocket and hit the hard concrete floor of the Home Depot. I heard that unmistakable noise of cell phone on concrete
But the phone ended up with nary a scratch! I have a cheapo "SupCase" case on there (this one : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IJ0R02Y/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=10) and it certainly did its job (along with Gorilla Glass and luck).

I have the exact same Supcase combined with a tempered glass screen protector. I have dropped my phone twice, both times from my bed onto our hardwood floors. I have a really tall bed, probably about 3 feet, and don't have a single scratch or crack yet.

I have absolutely NO idea why people keep their phones in their back pocket. Just a recipe for trouble in my opinion.

Actually, since my OG Evo days, it's the only place I keep it, with the exception of sitting down. Only time phone ever drops is when it's out of my back pocket. I have the same case and a tempered glass screen protector by Pioneer. I dropped it hard one time and cracked the screen protector. Dropped it lightly other times with no issue.

I've dropped mine for a few times, nothing happened to it yet, just some very (hardly noticeable) small scratches.
I got this phone for the sole reason to not use a cover

The Damage Thread. Have you defiled your phone's appearance yet?

So I just woke up to a knick on the side of my phone this morning. Nothing major by any stretch but nevertheless if your like me it bothers you to death and you can't stop looking at it. So I'm wondering if anyone else out there has make a mark on their baby yet. (Side note: the fake metal sides are cheap af. I tested it by lightly tapping my cast, I broke my wrist, and it left a Mark that won't come off. Come on LG even my samsung plastic held up better.)

i got a small crack near the mic opening on the bottom..doesnt bother me that much..hoping to exchange it when the nexus x comes out..if it is better

Dropped from a foot and the screen cracked and doesnt work. Saying that i have insurance so i got a new one

Yea I'm excited to see what it offers unfortunately I'm on Big Red, not by choice, just no other carriers have coverage beyond 2g in my area.

I dropped mine from about 2.5 feet and it put one long crack through the screen and nothing to one side of it worked. $156 LCD/digitizer replacement through LG. I feel your pain.
Edit: I forgot to mention this happened with the Spigen Slim Armor case on.

Haha, the other day I was driving a fork lift truck at work like I usually do and I guess I was going to fast when I hit a bump and my phone flew to where my feet was and then to the ground face down. Luckily the only damage done was a tiny nick to the screen that you can't even tell it's there unless I point it out. It was bugging me to death the first few hours but now I barely notice it. Can't be seen with screen on either. I was rather disappointed to. I have a phone cover on it and it shouldn't of gotten scratched but oh well. It could of been worse.

I have some hits on the frame around the screen, 2 scratches on back cover and 2 more barely noticable on the screen. That's it.

The world played out in slow motion the first time I dropped my phone. At this point though there are a few very minor scratches along the edge of the phone around the screen.

Same thing. Dropped it once while drunk but even before that I had these weird little scratches on the back. No clue where they are from.

Hairline crack at IR port. Will try and get a free replacement in a couple of weeks using warranty

Had my phone bare naked for few weeks and dropped if few times, had in my pocket with keys and change. No scratches or anything anywhere. I don't even think I'll be getting a screen protector since this baby is one tough son of a female dog.

It must have landed on a corner.
I just got the same case today. I could see it not providing much protection if it lands on the ground on the corners. The top and back are just rubber.
I love the case though. Not sure how much protection it offers from drops.

So did I. The case is nice and doesn't add bulk. It would probably offer more protection if it were a little softer rubber.

Jesus, i bought one of those but I hasn't arrived so far. I using a regular tpu case

It's still a great case and I think it provides decent protection unless dropped in a certain way.
The case looks beautiful and I love the way the camera is separated from the volume.
I'm happy with it so far and still much better than bare bones.

Back has scratch or crack from just pocket.

I read about the whole no mrtal in pocket as it can damage your phone. But my pockets are empty and notice on the back on the ce016 number there a scratch or hairline crack. I'm always super careful with my phones. And usually get a otterbox case. However since there isnt a case for it yet, referring to defender series i been rocking it solo. If i were to put my nail on the area and rub run it over I can feel it. Anyone else had this issue? If i were to guess maybe half a inch kind of curve.

Good news is that you'll be getting a new one soon. I would buy a clear protector for the back (and front maybe).
I set my phone face down on a table and now there is a tiny scratch near the front camera. Nothing major, but noticeable. I already ordered a dront and rear clear protector combo for when I do the recall exchange.

Mine fell out of my pocket sitting on a chair from a foot and it's now cracked. My note 4 would of and definitely has survived this kind of fall. I took it out of the case since we are getting new phones, just to carry it without a case for awhile. The new one will def be in a case 24/7. It shouldn't of cracked so easily.

My day old Note5 fell from 2 feet and landed half on grass, half on the patio. The top back corner hit the patio. It spider webbed the top 1/3 of the phone. The Note 4 was plastic. Any glass phone is going to be fragile. The good news was Samsung replaced the back for $75 including shipping out of warranty.
