[Q] Help! Need Dish Remote Access App and Netflix App - Android Software Development

My Elocity A7 tab does not have access to the android market so is there a way that someone (with a phone who has access to the android market) could download to a sd card and then I could put the card in my table and upload? I really want the subject apps.

I have the DISH Remote

View attachment com.sm.SlingGuide.Dish-e4df60e08b099e33d9df364707b47fb1.apk I think it let me upload the DISH remote access app....I had that because I work for DISH Network and it makes my job easier if I use it and are able to explain to the customer how to use it....but the Netflix I didn't have and when I go to the market all I find is the Queue App....if that is the correct app just P.M me because it is easier to remember to respond to that then it is trying to find the thread again.

need some help please

Hello all,
today i bought x10, so i have x1 and moved my micro SD cart to the x10 but i cant find a way to access it, there is tons of stuff on it - folders, films, music, text documents.I am used to windows mobile device so need some help with android. How to access my card?
another thing - how to change the directory when i take a picture where to save it?
there are some "moxier" stuff on the menu wtf are all of them for?
i have a USB stick for internet, when i put the sim card in the phone and try to connect to internet it says there is no connection set up???with all other phones i insert it and just start browsing so whats the problem here?
sooo thats the problems i met so far i will be gratefull if someone can help me.
Firstly download a file manager app... Astro or Linda are both good. That gives you access to your SD card's contents.
The camera takes pictures and stores them on DCIM file and under 100ANDRO on my phone. They are viewable in Mediascape from there. You can also use the file manager to create more files/albums in the Pictures file and as long as the image is in there the phone finds it to view in Mediascape. I copied over a load of pics from my PC to X10 using the MediaGo part of the PC Companion.
The moxier stuff is bloat ware put on by SE, can't get rid of it unless you root.
Not sure about the USB thing, hopefully someone else can give you some advice on that.
sooo if i dont have internet connection i cant download either of the managers :/
Are you talking about using a different SIM card which has a mobile data plan on it just so that you can access the internet??? That's not a great way of using a smartphone like this.. when you've got your "normal" SIM in you phone will be a bit crippled!..
Anyway.. couple of options - 1. Find somewhere with Wifi and use that to access the internet..
2. If you're putting in a new SIM card then you'll need to configure the internet access via mobile data - you can get the settings from the support pages on the SE site..
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...owtogetinternetsettings/xperiax10?cc=gb&lc=en
okay...
fixed the internet , installed astro
just few more questions poped up so:
as i read somewhere now i dont need anything else to install .apk files on my device right? i can install them throught astro?
also when i configured astro to "sort" folders and files (folders on top) when i restarted the device they went back as i didnt do any settings?will settings reset every time i shut down the phone? and can i fix it somehow?
oh and any options to see the % battery left like on x1 after putting some other roms that got this option?

[Q] Storing data on SD card

Is there a way to store files from programs on the SD card. I am using Co-Pilot GPS and when I install the program on my tablet (from the SD card) it tells me to download the maps. The maps are also on the SD card but Co_pilot can't see them. I had tried to download direct to the tablet but the file is too big for internal memory so I had to download only my state. This has happened with several Apps that I tried to load. Is there a way to redirect the data to the SD and have the program recognise it. Do I need Dexters download??
Thanks,
John

Sorry... I don't think anyone has figured out how to get app to work with the SD card yet. eLocity/Stream TV has not addressed the issue. I do believe Dexter is looking into it.
For now I have CoPilot running on my g -tablet, as I don't think it would fit onto my eLocity. You may be able to fit the US maps, but just barely (again just maybe, if the stars align just right). I believe it gives you the option to just download regions or states.
On a device with such little storage available this is a BIG deal!

Does Android have the ability to utilize regular Linux Links? If so, maybe you can install it minimally first with nothing else on the device and then move the directory to the SD card then link to it and add other maps. If that works it would free up local space and allow you to install other apps.

[Q] Any real application or way to hide the files?

Okay. I have some important PDF files that I need to carry in my phone and I really want to keep them private. I have searched in the market for the application to hide the files, but it turns out that all those applications only provides us the way to hide only Pictures and Videos, which is obviously more demanding and so called private data.
My concern is, no matter how I store these documents, Adobe Reader always and always finds them and displays them. I don't know what's wrong with Adobe and why it is searching for all PDF documents in the SD card and displaying it to public.
I have made the following file/folder structures to make the files not to appear in the Adobe Reader, but failed every time. Adobe just find them somehow.
.folder/file.pdf
.folder/.folder1/file.pdf
.file.pdf
.folder/.file.pdf
.folder/.folder1/.file.pdf
I also have tried all above combinations by applying hidden and system attributes to the PDF files and those folders. But as its Linux, I failed.
So I did some research and though I'll just disallow adobe from accessing things, but when I went to security thing, it told me Adobe don't need anything.
Then why it is searching for my PDF files.
There is a way and only way to hide those files from Adobe is to change their extension to XPS ( ), but it isn't feasible and not something I'm looking for.
Kindly assist me. Thanks.
Couldn't you just password protect them?
Although not as convenient you could use a separate micro sd? Or you could use a cloud system like dropbox.
you can use an application like app protector to password protect the adobe reader. though ur files will be displayed in adobe reader but adobe reader itself would require a password\pattern to open.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Thanks a lot guys

The files are already secured and there's no way to edit them without knowing the password of those secured documents. And applying password protection to every single file isn't a feasible solution. Though it's a good answer, it's not a solution. Life would have been easier if Adobe would just have allowed users to browse directories and open files instead of listing thousands of PDF files in the system.

Yes, separate micro SD card is not the convenient way as I bough the 16GB card just to have everything in single place. I even dumped my iPod Touch, because I'm considering my Wildfire to all in device. And about dropbox, correct me if I'm wrong, but it needs Internet connection every time you want to see the file, exception of cached file. May be I'm expecting too much, but my provider don't support the 3G in my area, so GPRS internet isn't something I can rely on.

Now that's a solution. I've tried the application just now and it looks promising. Thanks a lot for providing the solution, it's easier to get rid of Adobe instead of hiding files.
after applying the command, like writing . in renaming u have to restart ur cell , nd then ur reader will not find that. without restart it holds the path already so it able to find even u hide them. or dnt want to restart then install e.s security. thats gud

Even after restart, Adobe Reader just finds the files somehow and shows all of them. I'm using the App Protector now and its working fine. But few hours ago found E S Security in the market and installed it on my phone. I still needs to have a look at it. Thanks for the note mate, will be helpful for other applications.
Why Security-Through-Obscurity Won't Work
I'd rather try encrypting the files and/or not use FAT16/32 filesystem as it provides no security whatsoever
Maybe repartition your card to use a ext3/ext4 partition with user rights and encryption if those data are important to you.

best file manager and other questions

I am preparing for a trip for South America and I want to get this thing all worked out before I go.
I am looking to get the most out of my nook simple touch.
1. which file manager should I use
2. when I go to android market the search option returns a blank screen
3. what is the best way to manage my files on the sd card (I have been downloading books on the computer and transferring them to my nook, is this the best way or is there a way to download them on the nook directly?)
4. can I see .mobi files?
5. is there some major thing I don't understand that would help me get more out of my nst while I am traveling, I am going to be visiting hackerspaces while I travel so I am sure I will get tech support on the road but I really want to just be able to use my nook before I leave.
Yes I am a noob to this. But if I am given logical direction I just might be able to follow it. I did manage to change the version AND hack two devices this month, and I still feel illiterate. this is the first time I have asked any questions but I just can't find what I am looking for.

Download and install an app called MarketSearch. You can install
by going to play.google.com/apps website on a desktop.

Not sure, there should be some android app which reads .mobi. Might be harder if the .mobi is drm protected.

If you buy your travel guide book in pdf/epub format you can use the nook to read it.
Also download Angry Birds (and NoRefresh to make it playable) in case you can introduce it to some obscure Amazonian tribe
You can also get some dictionary app for languages.
You should probably also invest in a clamped led light for reading in dark conditions (check ebay).

In addition to es explorer, you can also use airdroid. With this app, you can manage the files from a web browser on a pc (no need to install anything on the pc). It can download or upload file over wifi.

[Q] NSTG Want B&N Reader to for their books and cool reader for .epub possible?

Hello,
I am having trouble get took setup in manner I want for my family.
I would like option to access B&N books on the device so I need to use default reader however for all other books .mobi/,epub I much prefer to use cool reader as I can adjust the margin to avoid the light bloom at the top as well as various spacings to my preference.
Using nookmanager/relaunch, Renate's Simple Library.
If I chose a default app for .epub B&N are treated the same way. Is this possible to sort in manner I'm after by perhaps hacking around with /data/system/packages.xml?
Thanks

BN books are epub, but they are protected epubs (they use adobe drm). I think cool reader may be able to open them too, but the Nook stores them in a place the reader has trouble finding them. Because they are epubs, setting the default would be tricky (one app for downloaded epub, and another for purchased from BN, how would the app know).
I think your best bet would be to use Mantno or Aldiko which can handle all of your epubs because they support drm. Then, all the epubs are handled by one app, and all the mobis by cool reader. That is as simple as clicking the always do this checkbox you open the book from a file manager.
The alternative is to set defaults based on file location, but I think you will need another app running like tasker. Then, you can create shortcuts with a launcher and have the shortcut open the assigned book. The later is much more complicated.
Good luck,
Leko
Thanks for that.
I did try downloading the books from the website to PC to have a look at what format they were etc but could not find a way.
It is indeed the path screwing things up. They live it seems in /data/media/B&N Downloads/Books/ a directory only accesable to system apps.
Copying them to sdcard coolreader had no problem what so ever reading them.
I guess setting up a script to copy the books to another nonroot location would be easiest solution.

I do not know if this would mess everything up, but what if you changed the permissions on that folder?
It may well do messing with those permissions or at least cause the nook to reset to factory. Not something I am going to consider
I want to remove all the B&N crap stealing battery anyway so side loading the books to my sdcard is way to go and thats fine.
What I need to know now is how to get the books I've paid for in .epub format from B&N when the nst does not download them.
Part of my brain remember Renate does something like this using an Adobe product?
I will google abit after coffee and some Jelly Defense. If someone knows good method please chime in.

Good point. I did that with Nook color tools. Not fun.
To get the books...
Go on a browser (this may work on opera on the device, I am not sure).
Got to bn.com
sign in and go to your nook library.
right click on a book and download it.
Save it to disk. If you have A.D.E. installed it will want to open it.
Move it to your device.
Open the book in a reader which supports A.D.E.
Enter your login in password which is your full name (As they have it on file, spaces count but I do not know about middle names)and credit card you used to purchase the book.
Enjoy.
You should only need to enter the credit card once.
Good luck.

Now, I just need to find the full screen version of Mantano. Grrr.

# right click on a book and download it.
This is the bit I was having trouble with. I see now its the difference between the UK and USA site. UK one only gives archive and delete where USA gives the additional option of download. Luckily USA site seems to honor my UK purchases now. It did not when I tried it long time ago I suspect they synced them because they accidentally sent a load USA nst to uk to meet demand.
EDIT: Works great. Downloaded, ADBed across (will setup Renate's adbsync for automation later), Renate's simply library app, opens with cool reader ^_^. Thanks
Only other thing to do on my todo list in this particular process is to change screensaver timeout on command line as I usually keep the 2min but if ADBing going into screensaver mode disrupts the connection either to sleep or wireless turning off.
You could try dropbox, then there is no need for adb. The current apk does not work. I found an old xparent version which does, but as you could imagine xparent is not so good on the nst. Let me know if you want it.
As for screensaver timeout, it is one of the options in settings.
~Leko
Go forth and work toward your salvation with diligence.
It may also be possible to put a link in the default directory for coolreader and point it to the location of the books downloaded from B&N.

Link would inherit the permissions. I prefer ADB / adb sync for large merging of files as it can be done over my LAN not my very tiny pipe to the internet. I do use dropbox for other stuff.
