The eLocity Forum should be here tomorrow or Tuesday. Until then, check out the 90 page long thread on the A7 in this forum. It's got all the known fixes in it. I would probably start near the back though.
Billy

The Forum has never been created why?

Like JeepFreak said you can check out the 90+ topic at
here
Or you can check out the much shorter topic at here
Or by far these easiest is to follow the instructions in the following two posts:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10126469&postcount=1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10147791&postcount=41
For instructions on going into recovery mode, check out
h t t p : / / elocitya7.wikispaces.com/Recovery
That's the best direction I can give you, given the amount of work done by the community so far. Hope that helps.

Newbies vs. Experts EVO - Froyo Root

I am a newbie, unlike many of you experts. I read all through out the forums and honestly 75% of this is foreign language. Please, for the people that are unfamiliar with the android system, fill us in.
most recent forum: 747598
***please note that it does not say whether EVO is supported or not.***
I bought my EVO early July and was anxiously awaiting the OTA update August 3rd. I downloaded it and now I am working with Froyo. I keep reading posts saying that it is both impossible and possible to root Froyo....but I have no idea how to even start. I searched the web and found some very easy YouTube videos on how to do this pre-Froyo.
I want to either start all over from complete scratch and format the EVO or would like to root this phone. It has been more than a week and I know a root exists for this, it is just a matter of where to look.
How do you know all the language with these phones and what it means....I want this phone to be the best it can be, but I am feeling like I am in the prehistoric age.
I am not 100% stupid, I do know to take apart my computer and format the entire hard drive. I do know how to change my fuel filter on my car. I do know how to cure a hangover.... Rooting my phone should not be this hard, especially since it is legal now.... Please help!
There is a way to root Froyo just no one has found the exploit yet or they haven't shared it with us
thank you. hopefully sooner than later....also, do you know how to get "verified" to put links in posts/forums? I keep getting " Hi Noonski....
How do I get my account verified so that I can put actual website links in my posts/forums? I keep getting this message.
1. To prevent spam to the forums, new users are not permitted to post outside links in their messages. All new user accounts will be verified by moderators before this restriction is removed.
2. To prevent spam to the forums, new users must wait five minutes between posts. All new user accounts will be verified by moderators before this restriction is removed."

You will be able to post links and such after you get enough posts. I'm not sure of the exact number.
No way yet...
You might want to keep track of the sticky in the QA section:

OK - Some basic tips;
First thing you should know is that all questions should be asked in the Q&A Section.
Second - read the stickies. The first sticky in the Q&A section is a thread with the title "There is NO KNOWN WAY to Root 2.2 Yet", so there you go.
Third - read the stickies. There's one for the EVO wiki, and another in the dev section for useful threads. Both of these should point a beginner in the right direction.
Fourth - read the stickies. There's one in this very section on "how to use these forums" which explains how to search.
Fifth - learn how to search, and use it often. Use it before asking a question.
I mean no disrespect with any of the above, but using the 5 tips I laid out above, anyone should be able to learn the language (so to speak) and be able to ask relevant and informed questions in the Q&A section, to the extent that they will understand the answers provided.
And I have no idea how to change the fuel filter in my car.

adb?

So I notice that the CommRom 2.0 thread highly recommends using adb to generate logcats. So, uh, how do I get adb?

Or you could have actually done a minimal amount of effort and used the search function here at XDA, searched for "ADB", and found this thread:

Actually I did do a search, I also paid attention to the links that pop up when I created this thread, that thread didn't turn up. I also PM'd someone who has understandably not gotten back to me yet (it hasn't been that long). Additionally I did a search on the market, it was also unhelpful. So, after all that I posted a simple question in the Q&A forum.
Thanks for the links, let us know how therapy goes for you.

Therapy is going great for me. They tell me in a couple of weeks they may actually remove the restraints. A couple of points:
1) Your thread is in the General area, so either you posted in the forum you didn't intend to or it got moved by a mod. Highly unlikely as I've never seen a thread get moved OUT of Q & A
2) If you had started your OP with "Hey guys need a little help. I searched the forums but couldn't find an answer (or couldn't find what I was looking for). How do I (or where do I).......? That lets everyone know you did put the effort forth to try and find an answer on your own. Everyone will be much more pleasant and eager to help you.
Just a few tips there because I'm all about helping out, educating, and providing information. If you need any help with ADB, I'm not as proficient with it as others but I'm getting better. That first link is a great help for beginners to adb and even includes screenshot visual aids.
The Android SDK includes ADB and the necessary drivers for your phone.
Once you get it installed, typing ADB will give you a list of commands you can use with it. Just remember to turn on USB Debugging on your phone for it to connect.

Alternatively, you could get the answers through Google and a forum search, thus saving everyone time and effort. I'll be nice and give you a simple link: here. Also, please read the second link in my sig.

Thanks for the advice,
I did find the guide you recomended, the reason i am looking for someone local to do the job
is because I simply am not tech savvy. it is like a complete different language i do not understand.
I don't use computers on my job nor did i learn about them in school.
what is simple for you is complex to me.
I can completey tear down a Harley "panhead" and rebuild it in a matter of hours, but outside of email and web surfing I know nothing about this stuff. sorry.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 NOOB!

Hello,
I bought a Galaxy Tab GT-P7510 (Android 3.1) because I thought I was getting a good deal and not going to pay Mac prices...
Also, I like Google and their direction.
Hoping for a bit of help.
Here we go:
1) I have a Nokia N8 (yes, still a fan) which only produces Ad Hoc Networks which I was hoping to tether my Tab to. But Android does not support.
Found a site which helps and is quite clear. //androidtablethacks.com/android-tablet-hacks/how-to-enable-adhoc-wifi-on-android-tablets
of course my device is not rooted.
Looked on the app store for rooting programs - could find none for this tablet - anyone know of one I can use?? z4root did not show up in my market. Guess it does not work on the tablet?
2) Tried to install Samsung App right out of the box - it downloads but tells me install failed....Tab setting set to Allow installation of non-Market apps. I could not find in the Market. Help?
3) Why can't I find the - {minus sign}?
4) Am I able to download a Market app to my computer - then drop it on my Tablet and 'execute' it?
Ok, I expect to take my share of NOOB flak. Apologies in advance. Hope to get smart enough to eventually help some other people....
Thanks!
PS how many of you get the Captcha on the first go?
V
My friend...no one post can give you everything you need. You have MUCH reading to do...just letting you know in advance. If people just answered questions like yours you would not learn anything...and that's not me being rude, that is the honest truth.
You will find all the information you need to root your tablet on this forum. Check the Q&A and Dev sections for easy to follow guides for your wifi tab. READ VERY CAREFULLY AND DO NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL YOU ARE POSITIVE YOU HAVE IT RIGHT. The questions you are asking have been asked six bazillion times in this forum...don't think your questions are unique. That's rule #1.
Once you are rooted there are lots of tether options and yes you can write apks (apps) from your computer directly to your tab and install. That's what that Unknown Sources thing does.
Be persistent and patient at the same time...and another piece of advice....most that read a subject line like yours will not even open your post.
Good luck to you! Come back to this thread in a month, bump it and let us know where you're at!
Are you sure you have a Galaxy Tab? It comes with the Market (now called Google Play) installed already. As as far as rooting goes, do a search. There are several helpful guides posted.
The minus sign is on the keyboard next to the plus sign.
CAPTCHA is normal-all new members have to deal with it for their first couple of dozen posts.
Applications>Security is where you'll find the Allow installation of non-market apps check box. That said, the Samsung app store sucks.
Read your user manual and all the helpful stickies here. Tons of useful info to be found!

[Q] I Rooted my phone and now it won't update

I Rooted my phone and now it won't update, it usually said connecting to server checking for updates you have the latest updates etc or I could download them. I install OTA Root protector but I have uninstalled that and still no joy Model number:GT-i9300 Android version 4.1.2 any help would be greatly appreciated, I am completly new to smart phones and clockwork recovery mode was not installed when I rooted could that be the problem? Now when I go to about device>software update>update it doesn't say connecting to server it just says checking for updates and the little wheel can spin all day without anything happening.
Thank you in advance
This is a consequence of rooting.. when you root the stock Rom, an indicator (visible under settings>phone info>status) shows you're running a modified system and this doesn't allow you to update. However, if you undo and you unroot your phone, you'll be able to receive ota updates, or you can temporarily reset this indicator using triangle away

Not a very helpful site at all would be as well just to Google everything which brings about the question why have a forum on it if members can't tell you what to do that is the whole point of any Forum. And the capicha everytime you have to reply is just totally uncalled for.

Well its very very simple its you asking the question once and failing to bother reading the faqs and guides its thousand with multiple same posts daily .
You and many others are just not interested so why should forum members help you .
This is XDA Developers forum not a fix my phone that i carelessly broke service centre .
Get it a developers forum for developers run by developers if you don't want to learn the basics its pointless being a member as we don't do spoon-feeding .
Please read the rules before posting .

When you take you're car to a garage and don't know what is wrong with it does the mechanic give you books to read on every aspect of the car before he fixes it. No he doesn't because he has the knowledge of how to fix it and if you read everything about the car you wouldn't need the garage get it.

Facts a garage charges you for the work the mechanic does the work .
This is a developers forum we do not fix your phone but we do have the basic faqs and guides free for you to read .
You are only to willing to whine and moan but to lazy to read the faqs and guides .
Suggest you try another forum as you totally do not understand what XDA is and think it exists to fix phones .
Goodbye .
my phone is rooted and my status says normal. not that i would want to take an ota because like kies I am sure it would unroot my phone. but if there were an ota wouldn't I be able to download and install it without having to use kies? I ALWAYS JUST ASSUMED THAT WAS AN OPTION. stock system+stock kernel+stock recovery. flash counter at 0. nothing custom or modified in system status or download mode.

Send me your phone and I will give you an estimate on the cost of fixing it. Estimate cost $30 average repair cost $100 :silly:
If you want to do it yourself then you better start understanding how to do it
Why would someone write again the same information that others have been pointing you, too. By all means google your question, chances are you will find it has been answered (on this forum).

The problem is your car is working as expected. This thread is similar to "Every time I move this column stick on the steering column down, a light starts flashing on the outside of my car". To which the mechanic would probably refer you to the user manual.
We're pretty much doing the same thing. Not knowing that you cannot accept OTA updates once rooted is basic root knowledge. I spent a long time putting a thread together that gives you ALL this basic knowledge that you already should have.
As already stated, this is a developers forum, not a help forum. There is an expectation that you read the basic guides and FAQ's before asking questions, in particular questions like this that are non-development related. XDA members take the time to put these guides and FAQ's together for people who do ask for help for non-development things. This forum is not here to spoon feed you the answers. It is here to help you learn the answers and that's what the guides and FAQ's are for. If you are not interested in learning, understanding or fixing things yourself, this is not the forum for you. Try android forums.
Otherwise, as per my first post in this thread, read "understanding the basics before rooting"
