The only only reason, i didn't buy one. - Nexus S General

Ok this is not another i hate nexus s thread, but it's just my own opinion, on my only main issue, with the nexus s. I know to most of you, this will not be an issue, but for me the lack of a micro sd slot, put me off. I went into my local Carphonewarehouse and they had them in stock, i admired it and what a beauty it was, and ofcourse i new before going , it didn't have a micro sd slot, but the temptation was too much. I made the same mistake, when i bought my 16gig iPhone, and by the time, i had tom tom installed, which is over a gig, in size, fifa is also nearly a gig, and so are most of the racing games, i was fast running out of memory. By the time i had my music on the phone, it was already grasping, for space. I also like some android apps to download YouTube to watch later, and i also have a tendency of keeping my over 3000 plus family photos and video,s on the phone,so the 16gig, is just not enough, in the long run. I have an iPhone 4 32gig, and even then i still have to constantly uninstall and install apps mainly games, due to space, so for me this is the deal braker, and am struggling to understand why they left this out, because with the explosion of gaming due to come to android, the lack of expandable memory, will be a right pain, mark my words on this one.

You can't compare app sizes on iPhones and Androids. iPhone app sizes can range from 5megs all the way up to 2 f'ing gigs.
Android apps have a limit of 50megs.
I actually have an iPod Touch 2G, 8gigger, Mod Edit: Talk of Pirated Content, and I'm not even up to 4gigs of it filled. I did have an iPhone 3GS 16gig a year ago and had 4 GPS apps, and I only used up about 8gigs.
You have have some real issues or an app hoarder if your 32gig iPhone is running out of space. (Unless you use it for music too)
But since you're having space issues still with a 32gig why have an iPhone at all? It has no expandable memory either. Rather weird you're bashing on the Nexus S with no expandable memory, yet you have an iPhone 4 32gig with no expandable memory and also having space issues.
Also btw, on Android, you can upload all your pics to picasa, and they are all accessible from the Gallery app at any time.
EDIT: I think this complaint about no microSD card is the worse microSD card complaint I've ever heard... comparing it to iPhone apps.... sigh.

remember that the 1gig of space for apps is not the 15 gigs of space as an SD card, so Fifa may be extremely large but the initial app is installed on "phone memory" and the extra is downloaded to "sd card"

The lack of an external SD card is bothering me less and less the longer I have the device. App space is a non-issue IMHO as they just don't require much space. While it would be nice to carry my entire music collection around with me, I wouldn't be able to do it in an acceptable format anyway as I have something like 120GB in FLAC and ultimately, I don't generally need to have more than 20 or 30 albums at hand.
All of this will be moot once Google launches their music service. Haters like to point out that streaming isn't a solution due to 5GB data caps, but I stream Last.fm in high quality mode an average of 4 hours per day and have never hit my cap.

20-30 albums at hand ! I find even that too much. For me it would be 6-8 albums that I m currently listening to wanting to listen to. Thats more than enough for me for a month long period Then swap them

the missing microSD support does bother me quite a bit, as I'm a heavy user. (16 GB of MP3, 1.5GB of Apps, not counting my collection of 720 HD movies, now i can't have all of that after switching from SGS, due the space constrain)
but luckly having a true unlimited internet over 3G/HSUPA it's a little bit less of a worry, but i'd still prefer to have access to Removable storage.
So i started this topic in DEV http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885837
if they can unlock the USB to allow and mount external HDD & or USB memory sticks, then we'll be in good hands

Does anyoneknow if the NS as a sd card inside the phone or if its using nand memory?
If its a microsd inside, couldnt we swap it if the phone was taken apart?

I don't even use my iPod anymore. I only said that as an example, and I hate Apple and only have an iPod for testing and experience, not for personal use. For the Android, I've actually bought tons of apps. The refund period for the Android helps with making purchases too, too bad it's 15 minutes now though.

16GB limit is probably the most limiting factor of the NS. That and the lack of a notification LED too.
NAND is supposed to be "lightning" fast but my experience with copying files to and from the NS is that it is way slower than an SD card. I know there are some tweaks out there to speed it up but still.
I wonder if the internal access for the CPU and apps is as slow; if so what is the advantage of NAND over SD?
Joe

I see no big issue with the amount of memory and lack of expansion. Your looking at a very small group of people that need more memory build in. 16gb is plenty for the majority of users.

Shame about no sd though, was weird choice.

I'm not sure why people keep creating these threads? We really don't care why you didn't buy a Nexus S. We did and we know all about your reason and it didn't bother us as much obviously.

Per forum rules, don't get XDA in trouble; please don't talk about pirating apps, games, or movies. Thank you, and enjoy the holidays!

Q is it worth losing 70 or so dollars to get the 32gb.

I'm really torn, I don't know if I should take the 70-100 dollar hit to pick up a 32 gb, or just keep the 16 and be happy with the workarounds provided by our wonderful devs? Mods if this is inappropriate feel free to Axe.

Impossible to answer open.
Is 70 dollars going to mean your kids don't eat this week? Or your bus fare to work? Or do you blow 150 dollars a week on big macs, therefore 70 less is gonna do you some good....
It's all relative, you see

Depends on ho you use it.If you are a gamer that likes to fill the device with tons of games or apps you might as well upgrade. If you don't game a lot and don't might using usb drives to hold most of your bigger files it probably is a waste of money. For me since there is nothing new but more memory I have no need for it.Still have lots of free space on my device and videos on a stick drive is no biggie for me. jmo
I have the 8GB, and opportunity cost just isn't worth it for me, anyway I grown attached to the old girl. I'm buying a fast 32GB USB 3.0 drive (I know usb 2.0, but it can give a slight boost) and going to make the usb drive the default sdcard, as outlined in the thread below. I'll create a thread, with I/O benchmarks once I've set it up, I need a new 3.0 pendrive, so I can't really lose

I just got my Nexus 16gb version in my hand today.
If I knew i might have waited... Though I live in Norway so it make take a while since we just got them a week ago here.
The 16gb is alright, I don't see how I would need more for my use anyway.
I download series I watch when I travel and delete them after I watch em. You can get a lot of music with only 16gb version.
I have a few games the biggest one is 1gig witch is Asphalt 7.
I also have alot of music videos (.flv files) does not take much space eighter.
In my opinion 16gb will suffice. :good:
If I used all of 32 gb with stuff it would also be a pain in the ass to fix it back if you had to factory reset ect. Just a thought
If you can afford the wait and have the buck, why not right.. I kinda want the 32,, dunno if I would have waited.
wasn't there the method with OTG USB Kabel to use external space?
I don't know what ppl do with all their space. I have been using 16gb, and never got full.
Had all apps i needed, 5-7 movies, photos, ebooks. Games like GTA3,Fifa'12,Maxpayne. The only thing i used was the google play music streaming cloud. cause my library exceeds the space by far and when i am listening to music i'll always had wifi so far.
Get your data-mess organized and everything will be fine.
Some tips:
Watch a Movie and delete it afterwards ( Or use google play movies to stream )
Sort out bad Pictures and only keep the highlights.
Keep apps you only really use. Have lots of games? Keep those you are actually playing. Can't play all games at once. Remember you can always re-download them when you feel like it!
Create a playlist with most frequent songs. All others can be placed into the play music cloud and accessed very neatly with google music player.. very seamless. Use streaming services for additional music like spotify, soundcloud, 8tracks, pandora, etc.
After you messed around with diffrent firmwares and stuff, maybe a full wipe is advisable, cause some garbage could remain.
Tweak picture / movie sizes before uploading to your nexus 7
Hope this helps!
Thanks guys for the responses. I think I'm just going to keep it. I got to thinking more about it, which led me to looking into file sharing between my phone(64+16gb) and the Nexi. So, at the sake of sounding like a moron, since I finally realized I could do that; I decided to keep it.
I'd just keep it.
I could live with 8GB but I'm getting a 16.
I play no games and store no local media besides pictures,
I don't play any games other than like pinball and flick golf. But I do like movies and such, so that is what takes a lot of room on my devices. But since I can download to my phone and play to my nexii, I'm going to settle with lower storage.
i thought about returning the 16gb for a 32gb, but since I bought my nexus from newegg I need to do the 15% restocking fee. Not worth it to drop more money for the 32gb. I got a 32gb flash drive for $10 and an OTG cable for $2, i am satisfied with my nexus 7 storage space.
You could always just spend less than a dollar for and OTG cable from Amazon, grab a flash drive of any size, install stickmount and then you've got more space at a minimal loss. When I'm watching movies, the OTG cable hides easily in between the n7 and the case.

My 16GB is going on Ebay while there hot selling still. I wouldn't hesitate at all, to me having 32GB without an OTG flash drive connected is priceless.
On the other hand if you don't need it and you're happy with a workaround then why bother.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I'm gonna sell my 8 GB and get the 32 GB. I'm probably going to lose around $50 in the process but there just isn't enough space for me to keep backups, a few different ROMs/kernels, a bunch of games and other things on there. I know I probably won't fill it up but it's always better to have more than not enough! I bought a USB OTG adapter but I hate how obtrusive it is and the fact that I can't charge it at the same time (unless I buy a different cable now), also I'd have to pick up a 32 GB flash drive since the biggest one that I currently have is only 4 GB. Not to mention the fact that I would always have to have the adapter/cable and flash drive with me at all times. That right there is worth the upgrade to me
I think 16gb suffice. Mostly one runs only out of space due to keeping to many unused apps and videos on the device. Even with 32GB one will eventually run out of storage if one doesn't delete them every now and then.
You know what they say, you can't have enough money and storage space I'd go for the 32 if I needed space. I have 16Gb but I have 32Gb in my phone so I can compensate for that (music etc all on phone not tablet)
I'm fine with my 16, but I don't game a lot, so it works out for me. The sad reality is even a 64GB Nexus 7 would be "too small" if I wanted to fit all of the videos and whatnot I wanted onto it. I like to have a lot of live concert recordings handy because that's the ultimate way for me to relax and zone out is to watch Pink Floyd's Pulse or Pearl Jam Unplugged...
I have found the best thing for me is USB OTG with my 500GB external hard drive which, miraculously, is powered entirely off of the micro USB port on the N7. As a result, if I can keep at least 5-6 GB free for offloading "current" videos onto the N7, watch them, then delete them off to copy more stuff over, I'm a happy camper.
Disclaimer: No, I don't *need* these things on me at any time. I could function and work perfectly fine on a 4GB variant of the Nexus 7 if I had to. But having a 500GB drive approximately 75% full of various video/music content handy at all times regardless of wifi connectivity makes this a tremendously awesome alternative. As a result, the lines between "what storage size do I need?" gets blurred significantly enough to simply not matter.
16G here and still have like 9G left and have a couple games on it and some pictures/music and one movie and quite a few apps.
Since I don't game much, 16G is plenty, especially with the OTG cable. I have a 64G flash drive I use mostly for movies. Cost me 35 bucks so, more memory and still saved money.

Any felt the need of sd card yet?

I'm thinking of buying LG Nexus 4 but before that i wanted to ask people whether they felt the need to have an extra card slot for the phone. Also how much out of 16 GB is available for personal use...any general comments about the phone itself would be helpful...
Cheers!

To be honest, 16GB is too much space for me. I have around 1.3 gigs of my dev stuff, some apps (NFS Most Wanted People complain all the time about how they need 32/64GB of storage but the only reason I can think of needing that much is for music and movies. You can stream those as well so it's not a big deal.

First of all, I don't own nexus 4 but a galaxy s3 with expendable micro sd slot. But I do want to get nexus 4 as well!!
From my personal usage, 16gig is simply not enough. I play lots of heavy games most of them from gameloft, each will take >1gig space and I do shot pictures videos and have tons of other applications installed as well.
I put videos, pictures and musics on sd card but still, only 2.3gig left on internal storage.
I know maybe vanilla android will be smaller than touchwiz but considering >10gig video and pictures that I have, 16gig just won't be enough .
Of course, you may not be like me and can use cloud storage. In the end, it's how you use your phone for the most, and regardless nexus 4 or other phones, it will be the same.

I've not installed any games yet, but I imagine once I do, the space will begin to go quickly. Music I'm less worried about, I stream mainly from YouTube etc. Video recording will be interesting though.
I would have preferred an SD card option, just because it's a fallback. An SD model would have probably convinced me to go for an 8GB N4, but no SD meant I had to go for the 16GB one.
The lack of OTG on this phone is a worry, but at the end of the day, considering the relative ubiquity of WiFi/3G internet in most developed countries, I don't think it's a big problem for streaming video, music etc, so really it's just games and what not that might be the struggle. I'm thinking of setting up a dropbox, (First time for me) which would be good for videos, and music and what not. I'm just not convinced of the price thats all. 2GB isn't very much, and as I have a pretty unlimited web server I could take advantage of that.

I m coming from SGS3 16Gb+32Gb mem card.
And I had to adjust. I have some music (had to choose what I m not listening to too often, haha).
About 1.5 Gb of nandroid+5/600 mb of rom and flashable stuff.
I ve had to stop walking around with whole seasons of TV, that s for sure But it's doable.
In the end, no matter how much space you do have, it ll get filled up with things that you don't actually need, so that s OK to pick and chose I ve got to say that I m not having any issue thinking about apps or not, I just get all in there and it fits!
So that s my experience, all in all, you have to think how to adjust, cause you ll have to do so.
Also, cloud storage? I ve got 1.8 Gb of data/month on my plan so yeah, that won't work. Since it s not when I m near Wi-Fi that I need to be mobile !
I wanna say that before I had the Nexus 4 I was thinking that 8GB is more than enough! And in my country there is only the 16GB version but boy I am glad that this was the case! On 16GB you have 12.92GB (don't ask me why theres 3GB less I don't know how system can take more than 1GB) and on 8GB you have only 5.67GB!
Now i have like 2,5GB free space left on my 16GB version! It is okay I wouldn't mind having more space though I didn't have any problems yet. But I noticed some games are very big if you are a games 16GB might be too small (I'm no gamer though most of my space is taken by music).

It has been a compromise for me. I'm also a musician and like to carry my entire music collection with me. I wasn't a fan of using the cloud because when I'm underground in the subway and I want to hear a song and if it's not cached I'm screwed. It has taken a bit of adjustment. I have a 32GB GS3 with a 64GB card and between music, videos, movies, pictures I filled more than half of the 64gb card.
I also don't have as many apps installed on my N4. I've definitely had to scale things down a bit. Although, I am having an easier time dealing with it then I thought I would.
I have 8gb and what I miss from my s2 (16gb + 32gb sdcard) is all the backups, roms I had.. Besides that, everything is fine
I bought the 16 GB version and haven't needed one yet. I ended up buying a 32GB Nexus 7 which is mainly used for heavy games like Vice City and NFS, leaving me with quite a bit of storage left on my Nexus 4. I stream all my music from Google play since I have unlimited data and Wi-Fi is pretty much everywhere I go.

Yeah I did. But I don't know if I'd want to carry it around with me. For that I could just carry my GS3 with me
I really was turned off by the lack of storage on the N4(I wasn't going to get one for that only reason) but I'm making due. If anything it keeps me on top of keeping my phone tidy and organized because instead of just leaving everything on the SD card I now clean it out every couple days to remove stuff taking up space. And instead of having like 50 games installed I only have the ones I'm currently playing installed
isn't there a way to unscrew the thing and replace the inner one? I think there's an inner sd card which can be replaced...I mean, my friend has htc mozart and it also doesn't have a proper slot for external card however if one unscrew the back, there's a card deep inside which can be replaced with a bigger one...Isn't it the same with Nexus 4?
For me 16 GB is plenty of space, the only thing I miss the SD slot for is easy transfer of files. I don't have to plug the phone in to transfer files.
I haven't tried the NFC / BT or WIFI (can;t use in corporate network) for file transfers.
Other than that I have been very happy with this phone, no root, stock ui, I am loving it.
PHR
I have my nexus 7 for the movies and honestly I don't understand people watching movies on a tiny screen.
I also don't understand people who "knows" more than 2500 songs.
And the ones who can play 5 different game loft games on a daily basis.
So 12 isn't enough for obsessive compulsive people who has to have everything with them.
I bet they carry a huge bag stuffed with stuff as well. In case they suddenly happen to go on a holiday or something.

No SDcard... is it really that big of a deal...

So I see this conversation taking over a few other threads. I am not trying to play clean up I just think we need a thread for it since it is a heated debate.
So no SD card... What to do... some say online storage and others say OTG.
I currently use both. I am on Sprint and running the Epic 4G Touch. I am lucky enough to be on a WiMax area so I can take advantage of the unlimited data that Sprint offers. But even with that I still use OTG.
If I take some pics and vids I usually start putting them on Picasa and Youtube pretty fast. This keeps my internal 14Gb memory a little more open for new pics and vids. I have an 8Gb SDcard and it is full of music. to this date I have only ever ran out of space once and I was shooting a 30 min HD movie on top of what I had not cleared off. I then started carrying a 32gig USB stick to help alleviate the lack of space but even that can get cramped so I have a 500Gb 2.5" hard drive and it works very well so far.
The other thing I have done, because we all know that Youtube recompresses your video's, was setup an Android on a stick TV device with an FTP server. Attached to that guy it a couple 1Tb harddrives. I can throw my vids up there as well when in a crunch.
As you can see there are lots of options to replace a missing SDcard slot that can only ad 32Gb of space unless the company paid the extra buck to allow 64Gb. That to me is still limited and I find it just as easy to OTG some movies off and on my phone as the USB sticks are easier to manage than opening my phone up to remove the Micro SDcard and put it into a USB adapter.
Again this is not a deal breaker for me as there are far to many options to a SDcard and some are way more convenient.
No SD is not really a problem for me, though a 64gb version of the handset would have been welcome, to many others aswell. I know one is due to be coming to the uk but not soon enough for some.
Not an issue for me as I have very little music/pictures on my phone and just apps.
USB OTG is more than enough for me

I have 100GB Dropbox so it is definitely not an issue for me.
I always had the 32GB iPhone and I never had storage issues.
I have a 16 GB nexus 4. Its ok

32gb its good for me

Its only a problem when you have 16gb or less space, games like gta and need for speed take alot of space.but great htc making 32gb and 64gb versions. .

No big deal at all for me.
So all in all looks like a non deal breaker for most. But there are a lot out there that refuse to buy it because of this omission. LOL
I really hope that the 22nd is the date for the US carrier's because this baby will be in my pocket that very day!
It's not a deal breaker for me, the thing I like about the sd I'd if something happens to the phone how would you get your backups, photos, etc. off of it. I plan to keep it backed up to my computer or ex hard drive. Just saying

At the end of the day, the only people that will struggle are those who are used to using devices with a lot more storage.

For me it's not an issue at all. I used to only believe in sd card storage but then I started to realize I've never even filled up an sd card to it full capacity and I've only ever had an 8gb card so 32gb is more than enough for me I can't even see my self getting close to 16 gb.
Not to mention I've had an iPhone for about 2 years now so I've gotten used to not having an sd card anyways.
with my phone history realistically whether the phone had memory card or not I haven't even used 11gb of memory ever! especially when I get bored of things I delete them. I have a 32gb memory card (29gb was free space) and I still have 23gb left! and I have tonnes of videos and music and pics on my memory card. Just generally if I want to watch HD content etc I put it on my laptop which has 750gb hard drive plus a bigger screen to watch things on.
In terms of backing everything up, my most important things are backed up on my laptop and my memory card and memory stick so even if the phone was to die, I would have everything available anyway as when I take pics and videos etc I put them on my laptop then memory stick or memory card. I suppose having a card slot makes thing easier but i am not fussed. Have had xperia S, One S and One X with no memory card and hasn't bothered me.
Never took the SD card out of my Nexus One in almost 3 years. So to me the SD card is pretty much just a potential security problem, I don't care about that at all. A removable battery is nice, though. This is actually the only real problem I have with the HTC One, that the battery is not removable and it doesn't have a waterproof-excuse for this like the Xperia Z.
I've been saying this since the One X was announced last year. Is it a big deal? No. Simple.
In a year or 2 there won't be any expandable memory. Apple made it a standard years ago and clearly survived. I hate to compare to them but it's a simple concept that works.

That's mainly because they increased the internal memory. With greater onboard memory it does negate the need, plus switching is just clumsy.
I'm coming from a 16GB iPhone 3GS and never filled it.
I'm just glad HTC went with a 32 and 64gb variants. Because if they would've made the one with just 16gb storage capacity, I don't care how good the device would've been, I still would have not consider it.
I rather have an sdcard slot. But with a 64gb internal storage, I'm good with.
I have a 32gb in my mytouch 4g and I'm already way over half of storage taken.

The smartphone obviously isn't a replacement for a desktop (or media content server), but is sure has become a replacement for all the other portable computerized devices we used to carry: PDA, GPS, camera and mp3 player, etc. So, what kind of storage would one need to replace all those devices? Camera storage of 8 - 16 GB is not unreal for a collection of photos and videos, and music player storage of 16 - 32 GB is not uncommon for a collection of music. That's pretty conservative these days.
And ya, cloud storage is great, but c'mon, let's be realistic, we want all of our music and video content available locally so that when we don't have connectivity (like on a plane) we can still access our collection of music and videos.
32GB is almost NOT enough for many users. It is good that a 64GB version is available. I only wish the 64 GB versions were more readily available.
With ~ 25 GB of user space left over on a 32GB phone, that's not enough for me. I could make it work, but I would have to make some serious compromises about what I would have to leave out of my music collections, just to add a movie or two to watch on a trip.
An SD card slot would have solved the whole thing.
Just because Apple makes lots of money selling products targeted to users who care less about options than your average techie, doesn't mean it is a good idea to copy them.
I'm seriously considering the HTC One, but the lack of SD card and battery replacement has ALWAYS been a negative point against the whole prospect. The screen resolution is a plus, but they are starting out with points against them with the SD card problem.
And I really don't understand why they would do that.

Are you guys fine with 8/16gb ?

Seriously tho are you guys fine with a 8 or 16 gb internal with no card slot for more storage? it would be better if it was 16/32 gb version like the Galaxy Nexus ( I would totally buy this phone ! ) not hating this phone its a great phone with awesome features but 8/16 gb only. "LOL" ( NO HATE PLEASE just your opinion if you are a PROUD OWNER of this phone.... or HAVING REGRETS buying it! )
I have 11GB free so yes
16 is good for me. The REAL Galaxy Nexus was only 16 as well, only the Verizon version came with 32.
You know I have the 16 gb version and thought it would be enough but after loading music video and pics I only have 4gb left so if I can fill the rest I might have a problem but then again I can always delete stuff or move it to my Dropbox which I have 50gb of storage

16 is fine for me. I just wish there was a micro-SD slot for media.
I have the 16 GB Version.
Since I like to play some games, listen to music and sometimes watch some movies on the device the storage is a big issue for me. I'm trying to safe as much as I can in the cloud (e.g. Google music, dropbox,...) but still it is quite crowded on the device.
I just don't understand why Google / LG didn't build a Nexus 4 with a bigger storage.
On my prior device a 500 mb - 1gb data plan was enough. Now I need at least 5gb...
But still I love my Nexus 4
16GB version, no regrets.
16gb is fine for me, i have a bit of music on it and i use dropbox for all my photo's. yeah it would be nice to have 32gb or an SD card, but on my HTC One X, i didnt use it all, but the device is awesome, I love it.
Cant have everything we want i guess
16gb here and I would like more space, but I don't need it. I like to have everything with me (movies, games, music, ext) even though I'll rarely if ever use it. I've had to prioritize, but so far, so good.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I bought the 16gb version and got about 9gb of free space. That's because I don't have too many tracks on my phone, no movies and I copy the camera stuff on my PC every few weeks
I wish it had more. I can't fit all my games, music and movies on this phone. I bought the 16gb as well. Sometimes I wonder if I should have got the gs3 just because of the SD card slot. But T-Mobile wanted 80 bucks more for it vs my nexus 4.

I can live within 16GB fairly troublefree but I do think that 32GB would be my preferred size for flexibility sake.
I anticipate I would still have at least 20GB free most of the time but, again, all about the flexibility .
I've got just under 4GB free on a 16GB one but I am unlikely to add anymore music as I only have favourite stuff on my phone anyway. I use a dedicated MP3 player for long trips etc.
16 Gb is just enough for me. Some music,Snaps, games still leave me around 4-5 GB free.
I would love to have 32Gb for my next nexus but not some 4-8GB + Micro SD.
From my past experience (HTC Desire and SGS1) both had micro SD card but that comes with additional problems.
10 free out of 16...plenty good and there are cloud options!
16Gb here, only ~600Mb remaining. Need more space for my music. I probably will set up some sort of cloud music player with my server so that I don't have to waste space on the phone for my music. Overall, satisfied with the space.
I have the 16 GB model, and it's okay-ish at best.
I really have to decide what goes on the phone and what doesn't. I don't really play games, so the only things that take away storage are music and some pictures.
It sucks that I can't fit my whole (more or less) music library on it and that I have to cherrypick what i want to listen to within the next few days.
I don't really like the idea of streaming music with the phone in my pocket as i want to have children some day
8gb fine here. 5gbs free most of the time. I have 100gbs of box space though and reception is fast and stable where I am. Wifi also readily available most of the time. I don't store music anymore. Pointless with my conditions and Pandora simply can not be beat. I don't keep multiple backups. Pointless. All I have is stock rooted backed up in case of any issues, which don't happen. I don't keep roms, only gapps and kernels readily available. Once I flash a ROM its deleted immedialtely.
I have an 8gb, and it's fine. Only time I ran into a storage issue was when my nandroids built up, but delete a couple of those and problem solved. Pictures get auto uploaded to dropbox, and i mostly use pandora over wifi, so no music issues. *shrug*

I think you answered your own question there Google really wants everyone to live in the cloud - preferably their cloud - and not use local storage. Plus, it wouldn't surprise me if the carriers prefer that as well, because then they can charge for data plans that most people wouldn't otherwise need.
The 8gig model is fine for me.
I have the 32GB Nexus 7 and I still have 20GB+ of available space left. I have tons of games, documents and etc! I don't know what else to fill it up with.

Samsung 256gb micro sd card compatible with s7 edge?

Samsung have announced that in June they are releasing the 256gb micro sd card. The s7 was advertised as being compatible up to 200gb. Will the 256gb one be compatible ?
As we all Know officialy the S7 Supports up to 200 GB and as far I know the 256 GB is right now not supported but I read somewhere there will be an Software-Update that can make it compatible but don't sure about it.
I seem to remember that my s3 was compatible to 32gb but I had a 64 gb one in it. And the s5 was up to 64 but I had a 128gb in it
If it's SDXC, it's compatible.
Technically all SDXC card is compatible. There's no such thing as 200gb limit but samsung said so because the largest card at that time was 200gb.

I did presume as much. Just wish they'd get a move on and release it.
If they release a 256gb note 6 with sd card slot up to 256gb it's got insane storage
I have this this microsd, but you can insert a 256 of s7
Each to their own but with cloud storage, streaming services like Spotify, Netflix and Amazon Prime, I've really no idea why anyone would want or need a 256gb SD card in a phone at this point, let along be impatient for it to be released. Surely complete overkill. Combine my 64gb MMC and the 32gb internal storage and I have enough room for anything.
I'm genuinely curious, why would someone need this? It seems like a desire based on little more than the fact it's a big number to me.

I live in a city and mobile reception isn't too bad, but even so you can't be guaranteed to get reception good enough to stream music and video etc without breakups and buffering. If I go somewhere out of town (such as to my parents house) there is almost no chance of getting decent data reception.
In my opinion being able to use cloud services for streaming music and video and accessing files reliably is still many years away...
I have a 200gb card in my phone and it's getting pretty full, so if manufacturers are making bigger cards I am definitely interested!

First of all if you're a fake music fan then you'd stream. Real music fans listen to real music you can't find on streaming in a good quality file. A real music fan simply would never consider low quality streaming.
Some of us have hefty music collections that is impossible to carry around with us or stream.
In the uk we don't have unlimited data on 4g unless your on a certain network which actually doesn't offer 4g at all.
The cost of data allowance in the UK is so abhorrent a real music fan would struggle with it. It's economical to buy a huge memory card.
Simple as that. It's not difficult to comprehend .
Plus connection is never garenteed. Carry around your music is garenteed connection . Streaming is years away from bring truly userable to the general user let alone the power user.

Right, firstly, there was no need to be condescending with your ridiculous "fake music fan" and "not difficult to comprehend" comments. You just sound foolish and it does nothing for your argument.
Secondly, the extreme quality setting on Spotify is more than good enough for almost any music you wish to listen to on the move, plus you can download for offline use at the same quality. Sure, it's obviously not be as good as FLAC or other lossless codecs, but it's not as bad as you make out either. And believe me, I'm a bit of an audiophile as you would know if you took one look at the equipment I own. We're talking about a mobile phone with an average DAC, on the move, and the issues that come with that like background noise etc, which no earphones or headphones can completely cancel. If you want to listen to your music properly to the point where dynamics matter that much, it wouldn't be through a mobile phone so lets not pretend you're some sound perfectionist and only the best will do.
As for data in the UK, I get 15gb a month on a decent deal. If you shop around you get get something that will suffice, and you certainly don't need unlimited. And I get 4G nearly everywhere now with Vodafone.

15GB wow, here u can just get like 8gb and is extremly expensive, so I live with 3GB.....
That's the first reason to not use stream, second one is: stream services stream what is popular, if we compare, there are like 5% of my music library on the stream services, so there's no point to depend on that services (also, I have to say even extreme quality sounds not so good in street situations, I'm almost always in my car, driving)
And that just talking about music, I record a lot (no need for a dedicated camera, this phone is just right, almost perfect) and some days I need more than 32GB (2X u really get) between my music and videos and photos I take, plus all apps I have installed... thats why I need more that just internal storage, is not about trolls, is about different usages
I'm using the Sandisk 200 GB card from the LG V10 promotion. I'd imagine 256 GB will work too. Might try it myself because this card has terrible write (even sequential) and random write/read speeds.
It'll work just fine. Samsung only says it supports 200 GB, because that was the biggest SD size at the time, but it, and other top tier phones today, supports up to 2TB.
"But 2TB MicroSD doesn't exist!"
Exactly, and that's why Samsung doesn't market the 2TB support, but 200GB, which exists.
First, the pics these phones take are huge these days, I take lots of pics and some videos at max resolution, definitely need 200GB+. Second, air and car travel both require local music, so the fight over streaming vs local is moot... Quality is a possible reason for local music, but even if streaming music is good enough (true for some/many), if you travel streaming is not guaranteed, and is rarely available as opposed to rarely not available. Cloud storage and streaming services are sometimes an answer, Sometimes the problem.
I'm a bit of a storage whore because I like to have movies, emulator roms, and music stored on there, while still having room for all the pics from this phone and the last couple (S6 + Note 5) and more pics in the future.
I'm also cheap and went with a pretty fast 128GB card for $35 and I have plenty of room still.
The 32GB built-in is barely ample if you have a handful of large games that don't actually move anything to SD when you perform the "move to SD" function. When my S7E was rooted, FolderMount didn't work to get the data for games/apps moved to microSD, so I like to keep the built-in memory available for apps while keeping pics and extras on microSD.
Back when I had the S6 and Note5 with no microSD, I used the nifty 64GB SanDisk USB3.0 + microUSB slider keychain thingie https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-connector-Android-Devices-SDDD2-064G-G46/dp/B00RBGYGPG $16 is all it costs now, haha.
