Depends on ho you use it.If you are a gamer that likes to fill the device with tons of games or apps you might as well upgrade.If you don't game a lot and don't might using usb drives to hold most of your bigger files it probably is a waste of money.For me since there is nothing new but more memory I have no need for it.Still have lots of free space on my device and videos on a stick drive is no biggie for me. jmo
I have the 8GB, and opportunity cost just isn't worth it for me, anyway I grown attached to the old girl. I'm buying a fast 32GB USB 3.0 drive (I know usb 2.0, but it can give a slight boost) and going to make the usb drive the default sdcard, as outlined in the thread below. I'll create a thread, with I/O benchmarks once I've set it up, I need a new 3.0 pendrive, so I can't really lose

I just got my Nexus 16gb version in my hand today.
If I knew i might have waited... Though I live in Norway so it make take a while since we just got them a week ago here.
The 16gb is alright, I don't see how I would need more for my use anyway.
I download series I watch when I travel and delete them after I watch em. You can get a lot of music with only 16gb version.
I have a few games the biggest one is 1gig witch is Asphalt 7.
I also have alot of music videos (.flv files) does not take much space eighter.
In my opinion 16gb will suffice. :good:
If I used all of 32 gb with stuff it would also be a pain in the ass to fix it back if you had to factory reset ect. Just a thought

I don't know what ppl do with all their space. I have been using 16gb, and never got full.
Had all apps i needed, 5-7 movies, photos, ebooks. Games like GTA3,Fifa'12,Maxpayne. The only thing i used was the google play music streaming cloud. cause my library exceeds the space by far and when i am listening to music i'll always had wifi so far.
Get your data-mess organized and everything will be fine.
Some tips:
Watch a Movie and delete it afterwards ( Or use google play movies to stream )
Sort out bad Pictures and only keep the highlights.
Keep apps you only really use. Have lots of games? Keep those you are actually playing. Can't play all games at once. Remember you can always re-download them when you feel like it!
Create a playlist with most frequent songs. All others can be placed into the play music cloud and accessed very neatly with google music player.. very seamless. Use streaming services for additional music like spotify, soundcloud, 8tracks, pandora, etc.
After you messed around with diffrent firmwares and stuff, maybe a full wipe is advisable, cause some garbage could remain.
Tweak picture / movie sizes before uploading to your nexus 7

Thanks guys for the responses. I think I'm just going to keep it. I got to thinking more about it, which led me to looking into file sharing between my phone(64+16gb) and the Nexi. So, at the sake of sounding like a moron, since I finally realized I could do that; I decided to keep it.
I'd just keep it.
I could live with 8GB but I'm getting a 16.
I play no games and store no local media besides pictures,
I don't play any games other than like pinball and flick golf. But I do like movies and such, so that is what takes a lot of room on my devices. But since I can download to my phone and play to my nexii, I'm going to settle with lower storage.
i thought about returning the 16gb for a 32gb, but since I bought my nexus from newegg I need to do the 15% restocking fee. Not worth it to drop more money for the 32gb. I got a 32gb flash drive for $10 and an OTG cable for $2, i am satisfied with my nexus 7 storage space.
You could always just spend less than a dollar for and OTG cable from Amazon, grab a flash drive of any size, install stickmount and then you've got more space at a minimal loss. When I'm watching movies, the OTG cable hides easily in between the n7 and the case.

My 16GB is going on Ebay while there hot selling still. I wouldn't hesitate at all, to me having 32GB without an OTG flash drive connected is priceless.
On the other hand if you don't need it and you're happy with a workaround then why bother.

I'm gonna sell my 8 GB and get the 32 GB. I'm probably going to lose around $50 in the process but there just isn't enough space for me to keep backups, a few different ROMs/kernels, a bunch of games and other things on there. I know I probably won't fill it up but it's always better to have more than not enough! I bought a USB OTG adapter but I hate how obtrusive it is and the fact that I can't charge it at the same time (unless I buy a different cable now), also I'd have to pick up a 32 GB flash drive since the biggest one that I currently have is only 4 GB. Not to mention the fact that I would always have to have the adapter/cable and flash drive with me at all times. That right there is worth the upgrade to me
I think 16gb suffice. Mostly one runs only out of space due to keeping to many unused apps and videos on the device. Even with 32GB one will eventually run out of storage if one doesn't delete them every now and then.
You know what they say, you can't have enough money and storage space I'd go for the 32 if I needed space. I have 16Gb but I have 32Gb in my phone so I can compensate for that (music etc all on phone not tablet)
I'm fine with my 16, but I don't game a lot, so it works out for me. The sad reality is even a 64GB Nexus 7 would be "too small" if I wanted to fit all of the videos and whatnot I wanted onto it. I like to have a lot of live concert recordings handy because that's the ultimate way for me to relax and zone out is to watch Pink Floyd's Pulse or Pearl Jam Unplugged...
I have found the best thing for me is USB OTG with my 500GB external hard drive which, miraculously, is powered entirely off of the micro USB port on the N7. As a result, if I can keep at least 5-6 GB free for offloading "current" videos onto the N7, watch them, then delete them off to copy more stuff over, I'm a happy camper.
Disclaimer: No, I don't *need* these things on me at any time. I could function and work perfectly fine on a 4GB variant of the Nexus 7 if I had to. But having a 500GB drive approximately 75% full of various video/music content handy at all times regardless of wifi connectivity makes this a tremendously awesome alternative. As a result, the lines between "what storage size do I need?" gets blurred significantly enough to simply not matter.
16G here and still have like 9G left and have a couple games on it and some pictures/music and one movie and quite a few apps.
Since I don't game much, 16G is plenty, especially with the OTG cable. I have a 64G flash drive I use mostly for movies. Cost me 35 bucks so, more memory and still saved money.

The Tab will be released next week in the UK and I don't wish to pay more than I need to, do you folks think that 16GB will be enough for general usage? How much space are you left with after installing your general apps etc?

It depends on what you are going to use it for and if you plan on keeping your media library on it, etc.
16gb is fine for me. I throw on movie files when I'm going to be out and want to watch something (delete them when I'm done), have no use to store pictures on it, a handful of apps that I use, ebooks, etc. I use my Zune HD for music, so I've no desire to put music on it.
I figure if I start to have lots of files I'll need access to, I'll get the USB or SD Card adapter at the store and be happy that I saved a hundred bucks between the difference of a 16gb and a 32gb.
I prefer 32GB. But 16 gb should be fine as well. For music you install google music and sign up for invite, then you can upload all the music from your computer to the Cloud. It let you upload 20000 songs. Not bad. For streaming movies and videos from your computer download the plex application from market.

16GB works for me - acutally my Tab says 9GB free space.
Most of my music streams over Google Music, before a long flight I choose the movies I need and delete old ones and Office Documents are stored in my dropbox.
Slashtop HD helps too
Just get the Samsung USB adapter and a Micro SD card w/reader and you can copy files to/from the Tab while traveling, see my post in this thread for pics and prices...

16 GB is enough for me. If the 32 GB model was $50 more, then I probably would have gotten it. Can't see paying $100 more for it.
As mentioned earlier, I also store my music library in the cloud with Google Music. I can listen to my music from my phone, tablet, and PC.
I don't store movies on it. I only store a movie or two on it temporarily. When I'm done, I delete it. I have the USB adapter and a 16 GB adapter to go along with it. I recently went on a trip, so I have 10 movies on it, quite a few apps, and pictures. I still have 7 GB left. The 10 movies I have are not HD, therefore their file size is a lot smaller than HD videos. The videos still look pretty good to me. If I'm into the clarity of the movie, then I should be watching it on my 60" TV, and not a 10" screen.

16GB is more than enough to store a few hours of video. Easy enough to plug in the USB adapter and a thumb drive to swap content past that point.
The USB dongle and a 32GB thumb drive costs less than the extra 16GB of builtin memory.
In fact, for the $100 price delta you can get the USB dongle ($20) and two 32GB thumb drives (approx. $40 each).
I ended up with 16gb model only because Staples does not carry the 32gb model in the store and I used the $100 coupon.
I would have bought the 32gb just to have it but like others have said for the $100 price difference it really doesnt make sense. Just manage your videos and put music in the cloud, should be good with 16gb that way.
I used the $100 I would have spent towards the purchase of a new Netbook.
I now have the best of both words. With the Tab being so thin, I can store my Netbook, Tab 10.1 with the Samsung flip case, chargers, USB dongle, and cables all in a traditional netbook carrying case. I can use the Netbook for PC specific apps and certain websites that I have issues with on tablet browsers. I can use the Tab for web browsing, reading, Android apps and games.

i went with the 16GB and found out its not enough for me (it is though on my SGS II)
- nandroid backups takes 2GB each
- i have about 90 apps installed (2GB) but
- Gameloft Games data takes a lot of space and I cant get rid of them because that Spiderman HD is sooo good !
- videos are less than 1GB
- about 15 music tracks
I grabbed the 16GB version, as I bought mine almost entirely for my photography portfolio, a cooking app, and a pdf reader. I've got 12GB free, and probably wont go much below that. If I'm feeling adventurous in a year or so and I still have it, I'll look into the cost of 128Gb memory, and look at upgrading the memory myself (I'm assuming the tablet features dual 64Gb chips for a total of 128Gb, or 16GB, but i dont know until i can either take it apart or see internals

. Seriously, why in the world would anyone want to store multiples of 2gb backups on the actual device. Does not make any sense.
This is funny but i get the feeling that most of the people that replied to UKseagull think that UK is one of the states in US.

My problem is 3G or not 3G, I know i have mny phone with me but on Tathering battery will last me few hours, than again Tab with 3G means i have to charge 2 devices at the same time.
3G will give me option to stream films online (thank you adobe) but than again thats another £10 to pay for new sim with unlimited data on P&G :/

I'd think that streaming films via 3G would be quite expensive, you can soon whiz through a 500mb data cap.
The 3G version is £100 extra to the wifi unit, but the MicroSD slot that comes with it is a plus.
Get a wifi tablet and a mobile hot spot. If you have a smart phone and laptop, they could share the hotspots and help eliminate the need for higher data on your smartphone. Just a thought to see if that is a better deal to double down on the mobile hotspots.
Regarding 16 vs 32. I bought 32gb knowing that expansion would have to be via USB cable plus drive. Its okay for stationary use but not the best for travel and mobile. But if you can be very selective on your media, 16gb will work fantastic.
I have about 600 songs, which are longer and larger files since they are remixes. Then 2 TV shows @ 550mb each and 1 movie @ 1.2gb. They are Standard Def movies. I have an ample list of apps installed as well. Barely any pictures. I have 18gb left on my storage. So I am doing quite well with 32gb. I could easily fit an ample supply of movies and music to fill it up. But I'm waiting to see what is available on the Samsung Hub in HD to download to my device. I listen to music at my desk at work via the media hub. So it charges while it plays, and then I grab and go to meetings with it. Saves me towing my iPOD with me everywhere. It stays in my Jeep and then only ejects for the gym. So my Tab is my work and travel entertainment device.
If you had a 16gb, you would be nearly full with the above list of media. So you would need to delete and make room for more or use the USB adapter plus external drive of sorts. Don't get me wrong it's nice to be able to do that.... but may not always be practical with the current case+stands out there. If you were wanting to watch a movie on a plane, it may be a bit much to drag out and spread on your tray table. or if you are in a hotel and want to watch a movie, it'll have to be on your tab storage if you use the HDMI adapter to connect to the hotel TV. You can't have external storage and HDMI at same time. I think downloading a movie while traveling would be nice to watch in a hotel room via HDMI adapter. Cheaper than a hotel and you can at least take it with you on your tablet for the trip to rewatch of finish if you fall asleep.
These scenarios are probably not applicable to most but if you travel alot you might appreciate the simplicity of the larger storage. Plus you can't change you mind later without loosing money on selling old and buy the more expensive 32gb. I hope that helps give a different perspective.

The SGT 10.1 is not out in Canada yet so I have to wait a little longer.
I think I'll go with the 16GB version.
If I need extra space then I will go with the Wi-Drive (Kingston). Rumor has it an app is in the works for Android. My other option is to use a microSd card in a SG2.
Please help me choose between the 8 or 16 model. I really don't think I will need the 16GB Nexus for I will use it for but I also d o not know what type of storage is left on a stock device.
It will mostly be used to stream movies / TV shows from my home server with the occasional game. I enjoy games but have found tablet gaming lacking to me, so I find myself installing games but then deleting them. I do like to tinker so I doubt I will stay with ta stock rom but would assume most are going to be AOSP.

Here's my 2 cents...i regret getting the 8.i have 1.3 gb left, and i have no music or movies, or books for that matter. It's just apps. I have one large games, 1.3gb, the rest are small apps. I don't remember the last time i had to worry about storage. It sucks. I love the tablet though.

OS takes up about 2GB. So you'll have about 6GB out of the box. I guess some people can get by with the 8GB model, but it may be awfully tight.
It kinda sucks to have to pay $50 more for 8GB more, but I think it's worth it.
The thing these guys are missing is that you can attach a usb stick of whatever size you like to the N7 via an otg cable, ok you can't run apps from it but you can keep music, books, videos etc there. 16Gb is always going to be better but it's not so much of a problem now if you go for the 8Gb unless you really want tonnes of apps on it at once.

I'm amazed how fast apps take up space so glad I went for the 16gb, a few large games and you won't have much storage left on the 8gb.
As for connecting memory sticks, yeah its a nice option to have, but not always good to have to carry memory stick + on the go USB cable around with me.

It really depends what you do with your tablet. I have the 8 Gig but for me that is enough. I have all the apps I use installed and still have 5 Gig free but I only use it to check my mail or Facebook and the occasional Skype call or a few smaller games and to surf the web. For me 50 buck for 8 more Gig was not worth it but for someone else the 16 Gig may be the way to go.
Depends what you want to use it for. I dont really play any of these big games on mine because the controls are garbage. I got like 20 games on here, few of them being gameloft and ea games, i have all the apps i need. Not much music or movies stored locally, i use an app Vkontakte for music streaming and google drive for everything i might need. I have access to internet all day, so if you think you will want to store a lot of content locally, get the 16, if not, get the 8

I was fine until this five day all sale started. Now I'm going to 3-4gb in apps alone and I've had the tablet like two weeks. But a used 16gb one so you don't need to worry. I have a otg cable coming too for my car rides home when I need music and can't stream because the middle of pa is nothingness.

Have to agree, I got the 8GB version, and bought a 32GB flash drive and an OTG cable with the difference with change to spare. All my music, movies and things go on the flash cable.The 6.5-7GB left out of the box is plenty for me to run any apps, games and anything else. Only downside I do see is the problem that when OTG cable is plugged in, you cannot connect to charger.

I have a 8GB Nexus 7 and regret buying it for lack of any credible storage. It offers only 6GB storage. This can accommodate 2 large games, few applications. However, even in this you will face issues upgrading a game, as it wont have enough storage space to download a update file. So please go for 16GB version, if you plan to have even 2 large games on your Nexus 7. Further, you wont have space for your occasional, movies, music for use on the move.

i think 16gb is plenty. i have 0 movies and 0 songs though. Documents or anything similar is either on skydrive or another cloud service. i use my tablet to read comic books and once i read a complete series, i delete it right away.

That is probably because they reserve that other space for when you do a factory reset and it reinstalls all the Google apps that it initially came installed with.
It really depends on what he is planning to use his tablet for. Most HD games now make you download gigs worth of data just look at 'the bards tale' 1.5gb for normal and 3.5gb for HD and Horn just to name a few.
.mkv movies are also huge limiting you to only a handful at a time. Sure there's cloud storage, but the N7 doesn't come 3G enable (yet) so its reliant on a WiFi connection.
Basically you need to ask yourself what the tablet will be primarily doing? Gaming, movies, trolling, or all three? It all depends.

like my others devices,16 gb are too low.yes,i know the clouds and similar things,but here in italy we have indecent speed with carrier operator and wifi isn't so common out home (and where there is,it's wpa locked).i can't store my music in cloud (google play music is a nogo in italy)i can't sore my pics in cloud due to the fact there are more possibilities i'm in a place where i haven't signal on my phone (for tethering)and wireless out there..in this case clouds are more than useless.and to end,it's always better have all in the storage,less battery and data consumption without always using the web to connect with clouds via tether or wifi.this,it's the only thing that i hate in the google's last year ideas.don't get me wrong,i have 3 nexus devices,but with only 16gb storage a lack of microsd is real for me. (and not speaking to the fact of sell only 16gb versions always in ita\europe,like they did with gnex,the gsm model haven't the 32gb storage)
Also without store musics and others stuffs,3\4 hd games and 200 apps installed gets the tab full.

Which one are you using? I read a few posts of people reporting that plugging an OTG cable shorted their N7 and can't turn it back on. Just wondering if its safe or if there is any special steps you need to do first? Does the N7 have to be rooted first?

16gb is fine for me but if they do release one with more storage then I'll just give this to the wife and buy the new one.
I'd say look for a 16GB on craigslist now. If you don't find one for a decent price, you can wait.
If you do find one, you can turn around and sell it once [or if] the 32GB releases.

I use cloud storage for everything, have downloaded lots of games (obviously not those over 1Gb..), and still have the chance to use external cards for movies and everything. Dropbox, Drive, Minus, Box, SugarSync, ActiveSync gives you lots of room. With Jukebox you can manage and hear your music. There are free cloud storage services for movies as well..
I feel like I don't need more room within, and still have 4,5Gb left. I hear music, see movies.. edit documents, share them,..
If you move with today's technology, you will soon notice that Google designed the 8Gb unit and considered initially to be its best seller because they took into account the cloud storage facilities we have nowdays
They have been caught with surprise that people request the 16Gb and now the 32Gb. We ask, they delivery..

This does not means that I recommend you the 8Gb over the 16Gb unit, but you can take into account this information to take a decission.
I bought a 16 GB N7 and for me it's enough.
I have 11,22 GB still available and I've no idea how to fill that space!
I bought the 16 and it is almost full. I had no such problems on my 32gb touchpad. If you want to play a lot of games or have a lot of media on your device it isn't going to work for you. Cloud storage is a lame excuse when it's a wifi onlu device plus most high end games require 1-2gb. If you don't plan on doing these things 16 will work fine. 8gb is really too small for most things.

I'm thinking of buying LG Nexus 4 but before that i wanted to ask people whether they felt the need to have an extra card slot for the phone. Also how much out of 16 GB is available for personal use...any general comments about the phone itself would be helpful...

I think about 13 was available? A quick google might answer that question more precisely I'm not using the phone for music or lots of movies. I don't expect to run into difficulties in that area.

To be honest, 16GB is too much space for me. I have around 1.3 gigs of my dev stuff, some apps (NFS Most Wanted People complain all the time about how they need 32/64GB of storage but the only reason I can think of needing that much is for music and movies. You can stream those as well so it's not a big deal.

16GB is probably enough for most, but you can always get a wifi storage device if you need more.
i just bought a pqi air drive and put a 32GB class 10 sd card in it for movies/ music etc.

First of all, I don't own nexus 4 but a galaxy s3 with expendable micro sd slot. But I do want to get nexus 4 as well!!
From my personal usage, 16gig is simply not enough. I play lots of heavy games most of them from gameloft, each will take >1gig space and I do shot pictures videos and have tons of other applications installed as well.
I put videos, pictures and musics on sd card but still, only 2.3gig left on internal storage.
I know maybe vanilla android will be smaller than touchwiz but considering >10gig video and pictures that I have, 16gig just won't be enough .
Of course, you may not be like me and can use cloud storage. In the end, it's how you use your phone for the most, and regardless nexus 4 or other phones, it will be the same.

I've not installed any games yet, but I imagine once I do, the space will begin to go quickly. Music I'm less worried about, I stream mainly from YouTube etc. Video recording will be interesting though.
I would have preferred an SD card option, just because it's a fallback. An SD model would have probably convinced me to go for an 8GB N4, but no SD meant I had to go for the 16GB one.
The lack of OTG on this phone is a worry, but at the end of the day, considering the relative ubiquity of WiFi/3G internet in most developed countries, I don't think it's a big problem for streaming video, music etc, so really it's just games and what not that might be the struggle. I'm thinking of setting up a dropbox, (First time for me) which would be good for videos, and music and what not. I'm just not convinced of the price thats all. 2GB isn't very much, and as I have a pretty unlimited web server I could take advantage of that.

I m coming from SGS3 16Gb+32Gb mem card.
And I had to adjust. I have some music (had to choose what I m not listening to too often, haha).
About 1.5 Gb of nandroid+5/600 mb of rom and flashable stuff.
I ve had to stop walking around with whole seasons of TV, that s for sure But it's doable.
In the end, no matter how much space you do have, it ll get filled up with things that you don't actually need, so that s OK to pick and chose I ve got to say that I m not having any issue thinking about apps or not, I just get all in there and it fits!
So that s my experience, all in all, you have to think how to adjust, cause you ll have to do so.
Also, cloud storage? I ve got 1.8 Gb of data/month on my plan so yeah, that won't work. Since it s not when I m near Wi-Fi that I need to be mobile !
I wanna say that before I had the Nexus 4 I was thinking that 8GB is more than enough! And in my country there is only the 16GB version but boy I am glad that this was the case! On 16GB you have 12.92GB (don't ask me why theres 3GB less I don't know how system can take more than 1GB) and on 8GB you have only 5.67GB!
Now i have like 2,5GB free space left on my 16GB version! It is okay I wouldn't mind having more space though I didn't have any problems yet. But I noticed some games are very big if you are a games 16GB might be too small (I'm no gamer though most of my space is taken by music).
AW: Any felt the need of sd card yet?

It has been a compromise for me. I'm also a musician and like to carry my entire music collection with me. I wasn't a fan of using the cloud because when I'm underground in the subway and I want to hear a song and if it's not cached I'm screwed. It has taken a bit of adjustment. I have a 32GB GS3 with a 64GB card and between music, videos, movies, pictures I filled more than half of the 64gb card.
I also don't have as many apps installed on my N4. I've definitely had to scale things down a bit. Although, I am having an easier time dealing with it then I thought I would.
I have 8gb and what I miss from my s2 (16gb + 32gb sdcard) is all the backups, roms I had.. Besides that, everything is fine
I bought the 16 GB version and haven't needed one yet. I ended up buying a 32GB Nexus 7 which is mainly used for heavy games like Vice City and NFS, leaving me with quite a bit of storage left on my Nexus 4. I stream all my music from Google play since I have unlimited data and Wi-Fi is pretty much everywhere I go.

Any comments on the performance compared to S3? physically as well? I know that adreno 320 is much better than the mali 400 but by how much?

use google music. even when i used sd i couldnt put my collection on it, i had to cut it in half. with gm i have my entire collection with me whereever i go. i live in two countries with long travels in between without connection - its as easy as tapping on the stuff i wanna listen to while being offline. you can make it even easier if you use playlists. i wasnt sure about cloud either but the way i see it, it works pretty well. i'd even say better than cutting my collection in half to fit 32gb.

I've been using GM. The only thing that sucks is sometimes I will be underground in the subway and feel like hearing a song out of the blue. If it's not a song that is cached then I'm out of luck.

Yeah I did. But I don't know if I'd want to carry it around with me. For that I could just carry my GS3 with me
I really was turned off by the lack of storage on the N4(I wasn't going to get one for that only reason) but I'm making due. If anything it keeps me on top of keeping my phone tidy and organized because instead of just leaving everything on the SD card I now clean it out every couple days to remove stuff taking up space. And instead of having like 50 games installed I only have the ones I'm currently playing installed
isn't there a way to unscrew the thing and replace the inner one? I think there's an inner sd card which can be replaced...I mean, my friend has htc mozart and it also doesn't have a proper slot for external card however if one unscrew the back, there's a card deep inside which can be replaced with a bigger one...Isn't it the same with Nexus 4?
For me 16 GB is plenty of space, the only thing I miss the SD slot for is easy transfer of files. I don't have to plug the phone in to transfer files.
I haven't tried the NFC / BT or WIFI (can;t use in corporate network) for file transfers.
Other than that I have been very happy with this phone, no root, stock ui, I am loving it.

I have my nexus 7 for the movies and honestly I don't understand people watching movies on a tiny screen.
I also don't understand people who "knows" more than 2500 songs.
And the ones who can play 5 different game loft games on a daily basis.
So 12 isn't enough for obsessive compulsive people who has to have everything with them.
I bet they carry a huge bag stuffed with stuff as well. In case they suddenly happen to go on a holiday or something.
If you're like me, you decided that the 32GB model was too much for so small extra storage. I decided to go this route instead.
First, you pick up one of these:

Then you get one of these or use one you have laying around from a previous phone (I have several):

Then you root and install "StickMount" from the market for free. You end up with a 48GB or larger model. It's also great for accessing photos I've saved on my Galaxy Note 2 (saved to SD) and viewing them on the bigger screen.
I do my Titanium and Nandroid backups to this device and then I'm not carrying them around on the device all the time taking up space. Yes, this even works with TWRP Recovery, as you go to the "Mount" menu and set it to look to your OTG device instead of onboard storage.
If I need to load up some movies for a trip, I put them on the SD and pop them in when I want to watch. Really works great.
I still like having the extra internal storage. I do plan on storing Nandroid and Titanium Backups backups on a flash drive using this method.

I thought I would, too, but the original Nexus 7 16GB was never more than half filled even with a ton of apps I never used. I tend to watch and listen to video podcasts and Google Music on my phone or it might be different.

Games, ROMs, and movies are what kill me. I like to store a few different ROMs, I have a bunch of large games (Grand Theft Auto, Bard's Tale), and I usually keep about 3-5 movies until I watch them.
At only 40 bucks difference in price, not getting the 32 seems silly.
Just so others know there are other flavors of usb otg devices out there. Just get the otg cable and connect an external drive or any usb stick. Or mouse/keyboard.
I got the 16gb model because they were out of the 32s where I picked up mine. Still thinking if I should go back and get the 32 but may give the cloud/lan a try and see how I do. I use tasker and a couple programs to auto upload files when I'm home, so really the only thing on my storage is apps. Media is all pretty easy to stream where ever I use a tablet.
I would rather have more internal storage then external storage. The fragile micro USB port is the weak point of the tablet so I want to use that as little as possible. Besides using it for fastboot and ADB while in recovery, I do everything else wirelessly including wireless charging, ADB over Wifi and transfer over WiFi. It is much more convenient to torrent straight onto the tablet then transferring from the PC via external storage or be dependent on the OTG adapter always plugged in for downloading onto. A single TV episode is 1 - 1.3 GB and a movie is 2 - 5GB so the ~11.5 GB of useable internal storage is really not enough.
I just use my router+external hard drive as an ftp server as backup. Also use it as a dlna server. No need to store anything locally. As long as I'm on my lan...
I like the one from www.meenova.com better since its a smaller form factor.
Only problem is that they aren't available yet.

Exactly my situation... amazon was sold out on the 32. I actually think it is a good exercise to try using the smaller version with cloud services. I have plenty of Dropbox storage and have Dropsync Pro purchased. Also have box.com and Asus' storage solution. Must have 200gb total! File Expert cloud services works great and is quite fun.
This approach is just right for me. Not for everybody, of course.

Roms kill me. Start crack flashing and next thing you know you're out of storage. I also like games and when playing BardsTale on my 16gb, I hit the wall. My 16gb got stolen the same day OfficeDepot started leaking the 32gbs early. I literally came home with 16gb, read XDA on PC and immediately left again.
OTG is handy but I wouldn't want to be reliant on it. I use it mostly for grabbing files off USB disks.

By the end of August they will be available, I've one ordered.
32GB is the best for me. Road trips and shorter car trips, I don't have access to cloud services, and I don't trust my young'uns to not break the micro USB connector with a cable and USB drive dangling from it. It's nice to have it locally and not be at the mercy of Internet speeds wherever I happen to be. Is there anything more annoying than stuttering youtube?

TF card have very slow random I/O, it's better not to use TF card.
Low random I/O means slow game loading.
And don't think class 10 TF cards would be better at random I/O than class 2 ones because they are not.
Use small USB flash instead would be better, if possible.:cyclops:

Yeah, yeah. Goody for you. The point is if you didn't get the 32gb, this is a solution that works. Not for all who need the 32, but they wouldn't make a 16 if it wasn't good enough for many (like me).

I like that one, too. However, mine was cheap and the fact that the other one isn't available seems to weigh pretty heavily toward the one I selected, right?
