Earlier, my G2 shut off on me about 5 times. -_-
First, I had it sitting in the car ,tried to take a pic but the stupid voice recognition menu kept coming up so I gave up and set it down in the console. When I got home, the phone felt warm and was.. off.
Then, I turned it on.. stuffed it in my pocket. A moment later, I pulled it out and YET AGAIN when I pushed the button I was greeted by a quick vibe and the HTC screen -_-
Then a few minutes later I ran a speed test (checking HSPA+ out in Vegas).. put it down on the table.. come back.. PHONE IS *(@#% DEAD AGAIN.
I HATE YOU! *glares at phone*
It's killing me because it either happens several times in a row, or doesn't happen for days! I've tried replacing the sim card, replacing the SD card.. moving the battery... no dice.
Maybe it's my SIM card? Would that cause it? My last phone did that -_- And I'm silly to have not yet changed the SIM lol
Good thing I have a spare sitting in my bag.
What battery are you using? Aftermarket? Is so, did you remove the sticker around the battery? If you did then make sure you place a piece of tape on the battery to avoid making contact with the metal sd card holder. The metal on metal causes it to shut down.

Interesting. I've also been having random shutdowns (not reboots, which I've seen mentioned elsewhere, due to a hardware fault) --
HTC Desire Z, using default battery, but I'll try isolating it anyway with a slip of paper or something.
OP you on a custom rom with overclock? maybe your clocking your phone too high or low?
Also if the phone for whatever reason gets too hot or cold it will turn itself off.
Please see this forum: Phone powers down and won't turn back on w/o pulling the battery
I strongly believe that this may be an issue with the GPS and/or Google Maps. Once I have the GPS off, this has not occurred. Can anyone else try this?
I have the Bell Desire Z NAM with stock HTC Sense 2.2 ROM.
It seems to be quite prevalent, see the bottom of this review: T-Mobile G2 is speedy sequel to original Android
I think you may be onto something with that GPS note, but my phone doesnt' need the battery pulled to restart.
Also, it's running the stock firmware, stock battery (just exchanged battery and got a new SIM card yesterday, and it shut off again today.. so those aren't the problem)... so any issues I'm having are 100% stock related...
This time it shut off after using Maps so....
i read somewhere (trying to find the source) that some G2's were experiencing random restarts / shutdowns due to low signal strength. Not sure how valid this is but you might want to look into this as well.

This was true before we received the first OTA update. Since then though the problem has been fixed.
I think it was definitely the GPS, that said I just got done with a really long phone call about this and have a replacement on the way.. but that was way too much effort AND I have to pay shipping (it's not much, but seriously.) I'm not happy that T-Mobile was THAT big a pain in the butt about getting the phone replaced with a new one in the 30 day return period.
Going by the pointers one of my close friends on sprint (that used to be on AT&T) gave me, I'd say this could've been worse with another provider.. but it shouldn't have been. The reception isn't the best so the customer service should make up for that, and it sorta does.. but it sorta doesn't.
Oh well.
I have been experiencing almost the same thing for the past week or so. I have tried a few things such as lowering clock speeds, changing roms, and not using maps or GPS. Nothing has stopped the shutdowns. I cant seem to find a pattern in the things the phone is doing when it shuts off because it rarely does it when i have the screen on, also it never does it if music is playing or if i am watching a video. I will say that it seems to happen alot when i am in spots i know are dead spots for phone signal. I flash roms a fair amount so it is hard to say this has started after flashing a rom, but I will say it never did this before I flashed my first sensui 3.0 rom.
I am thinking its one of two things, something with the radio and/or its firmware or something with the sdcard because at least one senseui 3.0 rom said something about sdcard formatting.
I hope all this helps the smart people come up with idea on what wrong with our phones.

My Desire Z had the same problem and I returned it to HTC Service for repair. They said they change some cables? and a new battery. It has been nearly 3 days and I haven't experienced a single shutdown but there was one time it restarted by itself.
Yeah my only problem with that is, I am close to my upgrade date. How much did it cost. I may still do it so I can give this phone to my kid brother.

Possible cause/fix found
I posted this in another thread here regarding the same problem but it appears it may have been overlooked so I'll post the info again in hopes of helping you and others having this problem.
A possible cause/fix has been found as posted on the T-mobile forums:
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/T-Mobile-G2/G2-Turning-off-by-itself/td-p/513575/page/4
There is a conductive metal strip along the back of the battery that looks like it may be shorting out. Check out the link for detailed fix with pics. I take no credit for this, just posting it since I'm experiencing this problem too.
Talked to tmobile CS today and was trying to get a replacement because my phone would randomly reboot and shut off. All he told me was go and pick up a new sim card. If that didn't help then they would be willing to give me a warranty replacement.

Clicking your link all I got was an empty T-Mobile page with the message "Page not found" and some some java script error message when closing the window.
Is this possible fix something else than lining the back of the battery with a strip of paper?

I'm pretty sure mine is not caused by the metal strip since my battery's all proofed. I didn't have anything wrong with it until about half a month ago, and it always happened after using GPS and left it on. If I turn it off after navigation or any other app that requires GPS the phone won't go into SOD.
I switched back to CM7 RC2 around that time and starting to get the GPS no fix problem, and it could't be fixed by the dd=/dev/.... script. So I switched into Nightly 88 or something that at least I was able to get a fix but the not-so-random freezing started.
This morning I flashed the new 7.1.0 RC1 and the phone would just turn itself off (it used to just freeze and become hot), and I got really tired of it... My old G1 was much more reliable than this.
I tried the dd=/dev script again, so far after 5 min the phone is still on with GPS on....
@carcuote
Thank you! I haven't had this issue for months now. But the solution is so easy to do that I will try our anyways.
I had this issue the first month our so when I got the new phone, but went away permanently after the second month. Maybe the contacts in the battery got a little rusted? Don't know but the solution is simple enough to try...

I've tried different ROMs (Dutty's wm6.1 v4.3; Topix 3.5 wm6.1; stock ROM; Miri WM6.5 v20) and Radios (the one which comes with stock ROM and 1.17).
And with all ROMs and Radios the same result:
1. When I'm starting browsing with Opera - the phone restarts. I noticed that it only happens when I'm browsing or using other applications which requires internet connection (like Google Maps).
2. After first restart phone begins restarting: when Smart Mobility text appears and phone vibrates it restarts again and again and again and never boots up.
3. I can boot up the phone only after removing the battery for some time (1 minute). If I put it back two quickly - no success.
Anybody had the same problem? My phone still has warranty. But how to prove that as it's not restarting all the time. Sometimes I can browse successfully without any problems at all. And sometimes it restarts few times in one day.
Any ideas?
Hmmm... strange battery activity.
Try checking the battery connection, if the battery is loose/moves around when you touch it with your finger, try putting a piece of paper on top, or the side, or which ever way it moves, So the battery will still touch the battery contacts. Doing a Hard Reset would not make a difference since you mentioned you tried various custom ROMs... I would suggest you try flashing back to Stock ROM, then see if the problem resolves itself.
Other than that, there may be a possibility that you have a defective unit.

I doubt that this is battery related. It happens only when I'm using data connection (browsing internet etc.). So it's not a battery issue.
Unfortunately, i've never come across anyone else that has experienced the same issue as you do.
Is your phone still under warranty? if so, you may want to consider returning it to HTC for repairs but make sure it has stock ROM and Radio versions beforehand if you decide to do this.
Best Regards.
Hi,
Just flashed back to _HTC Touch HD_MR_2009_RUU_BlackStone_HTC_FIN_1.56.414.0_Radio_52.62.25.34_1.13.25.24_Ship
Tomorrow I'll take it to HTC service.
Yes.. the phone is still under warranty (1 year still remains).
I made a movie of my phone restarting.. and put it into my SD card. So I will show them.
Ok Bullka, good luck with everything and I hope you get is fixed quickly. However, if you continue to have the same problem and HTC Repairs refuse to fix it, please post back here and hopefully someone else may have an appropriate solution.
Let us know the outcome, if possible.
Best Regards.

One thing though...does the movie show the stock ROM? If not it could give them an excuse not to do it under warranty.
Good luck
I actually had exactly the same problem with Opera and phone rebooting a little while ago. The difference was that it dint boot up no matter how long I left the battery out.
I then use diamond MTTY, yes MTTY, to flash back stock rom, and it works fine until now.

Hi,
Of course I flashed back to stock before making that movie. But the phone restarts even before showing the ROM/radio version at the right corner on the bottom. Just the label Smart Mobility appears and phone restarts.
Thanks for your support.
I'll let you know the results.
Just received my HD back from HTC service.
They didn't say what they have fixed. The lady in the reception just said that it's fixed now Doesn't give much confidence
Anyway I did a quick internet browsing while driving to my office. No phone restarts. usually it happens when I'm in the bed doing more browsing.
Deep in my heart I believe that they fixed it. But let's see how it will be next day.

Excellent news mate
I hope it works out for you... so far so good
Just noticed what my IMEI number is different now. They changed it on Warranty Card as well.
So it makes me believe that they really fixed something by changing internals and not just reflashing the ROM.
Woohoo!!!
i had this too. phone goes off whilst browsing the internet on wifi - but only occasionally. sent to htc and they replaced the motherboard for me - all fine.
***EDIT***
Well it would seem like my random reboots have gone away. Thanks to Tubgirl for the suggestion, but using Hastarin's 7.5R kernel with NO overclocking, AXI etc, it's finally stable once again.
In fact, I used that kernel with Darkstone's latest 3.2 build and the battery is crazy. I am getting approximately 7 hours of battery life for every 10% of the battery. That's with BT, data and all syncing turned on and basic use. That's around 3 days of life for a light user. Didn't even get that with winmo!
So for me - the moral of the story is stick to the clean, non overclocked kernels. As for speed, I cannot tell the difference (I don't play any games to be fair though).
***END***
For some strange reason, my phone randomly reboots at completely bizarre intervals when running Android. I can't put my finger on what it might be. So some questions!
- Does anyone else experience this?
- I'm running VBN RC3 Minimal WM ROM, might it be this?
- I'm running the 2.14 Radio is it this?
- I'm running mostly Mdeejay builds could it be them (happens with all of the one's I've tried)?
- Is it likely to be piece of android software?
- Is there any way I can find a log to see why it's rebooted?
Random Reboots
I have been experiencing this problem for about a month now. I have tried numerous roms and android combinations, as well as changed radios. The problem still returns no matter what combination I try. So I'm kind of
Could be a problem with your battery. Try replacing it.

i had same problem.. what i did was fully drain my battery, than recharged it fully on off mode, with cable plugged in turned it on that charged again till i saw green LED light
since than it worked nicely no random boot
give it a shot id say
cheers
My HD2 has never done it, but my mates has.
He contacted HTC on Thursday and they are repairing it under warranty.
It is a well known issue that affected around 3000 handsets in the UK apparently. They call it the "heat related reboot", and it involves replacing the motherboard and another component.
His has gone back, they sent a courier to collect it..
Mine has been randomly rebooting for about 2 weeks now.
It usually happens once a day when running Winmo or Android. Sometimes when it reboots I get a rectangular box across the bottom of the screen for about a second. I dont know if this is caused by the Radio Rom update or it is just coincidence.
I have swapped the battery but it has made no difference.
It's driving me mad.

I have sent them an e-mail describing my issue, quoting you I will see what they say. Hopefully they will sort it soon because my first year of warranty expires in one month!
Oh also, if I send it back for warranty, I suppose I'll need to revert it back to the 02 defaults and remove all traces of HSPL! Is this possible?
i have this problem too, under android and wm. Still testing to find out hwats causing it but looks more and more a heat issue, eventhough it does not heat that much.
unfortunately dont have warranty so not sure what i can do.
when i have an audio or video stream, or navigator thats when it happens mostly. but i had random reboots as well for no reason.
is there something on WM we can use to find out whats making it reboot?
i get this issue every once in a while when i go to sleep and wake up and its booted up in windows? its happened about 2 or three times but doesn't happen every day.
Me too!
I'm also experiensing this. It started just when the whole android hd2 thing started. I have this problem no matter what radio/rom I'm using (except from stock). Reboots in win. Android gives SOD/reboots. I've tried some reasearching in to this and found out that when I flash back to original rom/radio it's stable. Between every flash i do Task29.
I've tried different memory cards and even swapped the battery with a collegue.
Still the same. Funny thing if it suddenly are many people experiensing this problem..
Could it have something to do with android experiments?
Bad thing is that it would be difficult to send it in for repair since it's working with original rom/radio.
You should all try to flash a stock radio and rom to see if it still reboots.. Mine don't..

I use the same VBN ROM but this build [build]20.09.10||JDMS 1.3|FRF91 Latest Stable Nightly||RC11 WITH AXIS! and Radio 2.12. I dont have any problem (reboot, sleep of dead, no robot voice...)
I switched to the latest hyperdroid v1.6 and have not had this problem yet although It did happen to me a lot when I was running different builds (cant remember which ones sry) Try switching builds and also make sure you turn everything off in WM like bsb tweaks and radio all that stuff. Its weird but it helps considering that everything gets turned off when u hit clrcad.exe anyways but it has helped the stability of my builds.
Alot of us seems to get these reebots in win also...
I wonder if it's got anything to do with the overclocking with setcpu? Hmmmm....
i had this exact same issue , bought phone of eBay so had no proof if purchase . phoned htc they said its 100% covered under warranty , they had it back for repair for 5 working days . they also replaced the external casing as it had a few chips from a drop , they pretty much returned a brand new phone apart from the serial number sticker tomtom no longer recognised the device id so i had to reactivate my maps , so they have at least replaced the mainboard . top customer service ! give them a ring its worth a try they can only say no

i'm also experiencing this random reboot phenomenon.. happened only after i started experimenting with Android on my HD2.. now the reboot issue happens with WinMo as well.. i've been using the same radio, ROM and same builds..
btw, since jonboyuk mentioned it, i did play around with "setcpu".. could this be the culprit??
Hello..
I've noticed that my HD2 also reboots sometimes in Android. I haven't used WM for a long, so I really don't know if it also reboots in WM. My question is though, is this a hardware issue? Never had this sorts of reboots before starting this Android @ HD2 game. An answer (or just a thought) to this question, will help me, since I have to send my HD2 for a repair tomorrow, cause the microUSB slot is broke. But if the reboot issue is a hardware fault, then I should also report that, to the repair center.
Thanks.
Looking for some advice/help. I got my wife the Evo Shift a couple of weeks ago. Her phone has not been rooted and other than a few added apps the phone is completely stock. The phone reboots on her 4 and 5 times a day. She does not have any kind of task killer installed so that's not it. She plays Angry Birds a lot and uses Pandora quite a bit. I have also installed Sound Manager for her. Other than that I can't think of anything that would be helpful for trouble shooting. I have searched here and through Google and have not seen any info of others having this problem. I am not sure if I should root the thing or return it to best buy. I have the Evo and previously the Hero and am no stranger to rooting or custom ROMs. Just really did not see the need to root it since my wife has no idea about any of that. Any help or advice will be appreciated.
Thanks.
root and install nfinitefx's or mik's rom; you'll have less trouble than if it was stock.

Not yet. I did get some more info from my wife though. It only happens when she is at work. And she says she get some sort of "radio error". I'm starting to think it might have something to do with the building she is in. She had my hero for a couple months before I got her the shift and had no problems. It had CM 6.1 running though.

im running mine stock and rooted and dont have any problems with reboots. sounds like a app is probably screwing something up
i had a similar problem with one of the streaming media apps i used to use a month or so ago i cant remember the name but for some reason if i lost signal it would crash the phone and need to be rebooted
i took it off and installed tuneinradio and it worked better anyways
My shift was rebooting itself 3 to 4 times a day, I just rooted it and it seemed to stop rebooting itself for a day. Now its starting to reboot itself again, but not as often.
I am almost convinced its a hardware problem. Sounds too rare to be anything else. Maybe bad memory or something.

I had a freezing issue with my phone which people suggested possible due to pandora and bluetooth. Perhaps you have the same issue?
Anyway, try to find "bluetooth for automotive" settings for pandora and turn it off.
I wouldn't recommend rooting your phone if you think its broken. You might just end up breaking it further and render your warranty void.
If you can't fix it, get sprint to replace it.
i dont need a signature
This may be resolved by now, but I got my shift previously used. When I first activated it, I was getting some radio errors and I could not make calls or send sms messages, but the email worked fine. I contacted Sprint customer service via chat from the website and they did something from their end to fix it. I had to turn off my phone and she said now wait till I tell you to turn it back on. I waited 5 minutes and when I turned it back on, everything was fine. So I would take it in or contact Sprint and see what they say. As for not sure if you wanna root it for her, I would definitely recommened it, she doesn't have to take advantage of all the advanced tweak that some use but it will just make the phone a lot smoother and easier to use. IMHO.

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to go ahead and root it. After keeping an eye on the situation its seems its only happening when she is at work. I can't imagine it will fix it but I think its worth a shot.
I think I fixed mine. I tried to use navigation and it kept force closing, that was strange because I've used it before with no problems. I googled around and found some info that if you had another text to speak engine in your phone then uninstalled it without setting it back to pico as default it would cause nav to FC, which is what I had done. So I set it back and checked "Always use my settings" in the Voice section of settings, nav started working and the reboot issue went away for the past 7 days.
I don't really know crap about phones and most tech stuff for that matter (heck 99% of what is said in these forums goes over my head) but I think why this fixed it is either nav or some app was trying to use pico or something and when it couldn't the phone would get an error and reboot itself. I may be wrong (probably am) but maybe she deleted something or changed a setting some app needs and that is causing her problem. Hope this helps in someway or at least gives you another direction to start checking.
My GPS hasn't been working for a while now, and I always assumed it was a 1software issue. I've tried SBFing to .340, .602, CM7, and am currently on MIUI.. all with no luck. Long story short, it was a hardware issue.
I noticed while holding the phone in a certain way with the battery cover off, I would get a fix on all satellites almost instantly (using GPS Status). After some testing, I found that putting pressure on the piece of plastic between the battery pull tab and SD card was the solution.
With a little MacGyver ingenuity (folded a movie stub in half, placed on that spot, and put the cover back on), I now have perfect GPS reception, indoors and out.
I'm not sure if this is the issue for everyone with a Droid X and GPS problems, but it should at the very least help some.
Please take the poll and spread the word if this is a solution for you. I know I'm not the only one who has thought about tossing my phone out the window over this issue.
It works!
Wow. Just wow.
I have been having GPS problems on my Droid X for months now. I had tried almost everything: Formatting SD card, downloading AGPS data, wiping cache, factory reset, different ROMs, etc.
NOTHING WORKED
I was about to give up, but today I had some free time before work so I thought I would give it another, final, shot. I Googled the problem for the umpteenth time and found your post. "Interesting," I thought to myself, "I've never thought of trying that."
So I popped off my batter cover and with the GPS test app running applied a small amount of pressure on the little plastic peg located below the pull tab.
INSTANTLY GPS test picked up seven different satellites! I jumped out of my chair I was so excited! I instantly decided to create an XDA account (I've been a lurker for about a year now) just so that I could thank you! I loved using my GPS so much because I am horrible when driving in places that I'm not familiar with, it was such a downer to not be able to use it, I felt like my phone was only at 75% without it.
But you changed all of that!
I love you!
I want to hug you!
+1000 Internets/cookies/kudos to you, good sir!
May you have the best Karma for the rest of your life!
Sincerely,
An extremely happy, GPS renewed, Droid X user
interesting. I usually find that GPS problems are rom related 9 out of 10 times.
I like my GPS too I've always known my network and GPS issues to be rom related. I'll have to see how that works next time. Thanks for sharing your discovery.

I didn't believe it at first... but he's right!
I had my doubts when I read about the "pressure fix" to my DX GPS problem. I did a lot of testing and it works. I was able to get 8-9 satellite fixes in 4-8 seconds. As soon as I let off on the pressure all satellites were lost usually right away but sometimes I had the fix for 15-20 seconds. When I put the battery cover on I also lost satellites right away. I found I could also apply pressure through the battery cover and get a fix within 10 seconds.
I called VZW tech support and after I convinced the first tier script reader that I indeed had a problem that they couldn't fix I went to tier two. He asked a few questions and I told him my woes (but not the pressure fix) and he immediately sent out a replacement phone. The replacement works great... fixes in seconds even inside a steel hulled ferry boat!
Something else you can try is updating your roaming capabilities. dial *228 and press 2. Seemed to help a lot with me. Getting several satellites within 5-10 seconds, vs. 20 minutes before lol
If you are having the gps issue on all roms and pressure makes it work, it's more than likely a cold solder joint an I would get the phone replaced under warranty.
bizarre
I just wanted to say I have this same problem on the same phone. I noticed if I touch the back of my phone in a certain area, the GPS lights up and everything works great. If I take my finger off it, the GPS loses me. It is just bizarre... I am calling them tomorrow for a replacement phone but I wanted to say thanks for posting this because I thought I was going nuts!
edit: I cut off a strip of a thin cardboard price tag from a pair of jeans I bought a few weeks ago and inserted it into the back of the phone like the OP stated, closed the battery case, and now I have eleven satellites. If I take out the piece of cardboard they all go away. I had been looking for a solution for weeks and now, finally, joy!
Yeah I knew that issue for awhile. Atleast 7 or 8 months. It will help with wifi issues too. I remember at one point my friend was going threw droid x's like there nothing. There has to be something loose up there. I wanted to open it up and try to find a real fix but just never cared. I figured if i lose wifi or need gps i know the quick fix.
Thank you!!!
I started having gps issues right around the time I started rooting and roming so I assumed it was the roms. I tried flashing the fixes but nothing worked. I even temporarily went back to stock but it didn't fix the gps problem. I found this today and immediately fixed the problem. I used my gps the whole day and haven't had a problem. If something changes I will be sure to come back and let all of you know.
You know... it might be caused by doing multiple battery pulls which is something you tend to do a lot when first learning to rom your phone.
Me too
My wife and I both have DroidX original flavour, and both have had the GPS stop working after about a year. To call it annoying would be an understatement. Both phones are unrooted, have the latest update on them (4.5.621.MB810).
Our symptoms were they same - you start up GPS and start Navigator or Google Maps, and for the first two minutes, everything was fine. And then the GPS looses the signal and there is nothing you can do to bring it back.
I had read on another board that Weatherbug caused a lot of problems with the GPS, and after uninstalling that (and installing Weather.com's app), the GPS actually did start working better, but it would still loose the signal permanently most of the time.
I actually went through uninstalling everything else on my phone trying to figure out which of the 100 apps I have installed that had messed up the GPS, and still had no signal. And then I read this post.
I'm going to add another variable to this fix, and that would be heat. Taking off the batter cover works for me, but I have also noticed that on hot, sunny days, when the phone is in the car dock, there is almost nothing I can do to get the GPS to work. But at night, when the phone is cool, even without taking the cover off and applying pressure to the knob next to the pull tab, the GPS seems to work almost flawlessly.
I'm going to call Verizon tomorrow to see if I can get replacements for both my wife's and mine phone. I don't know if they will, considering my wife's phone is almost two years old, but we can't wait until July when her replacement discount becomes available for her to have a usable GPS. Considering this seems to be a design flaw in the original DroidX given the sheer number of postings all of the internet describing the exact same problem, I'm thinking they had better replace them for free.
Thank you for this post!! You've solved a problem that has been bugging us for months, and now that I know its an endemic problem, you probably saved us a LOT of money!
I know this is an old post, but I am looking for any suggestions to get my GPS working again. I have tried with the cover pulled and applying pressure to the plastic piece and have had no luck, I get no satellites. I have updated roaming capabilities, I have changes ROMS, still to no avail. I have used GPS Status to reset and download A-GPS state and it will not work. The GPS never finds any satellites indoors or out. I have tried flashing a baseband radio and had no luck doing that either.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Hello everyone,
I've had my note 4 over two years now and out of nowhere problems started happening after second MM update, model SM-N910F was freezing and restarting and sometimes was not able to boot normally and got mmc read fail.
I'm reading a lot about this problem in other forums and here, so hope someone could help about this issue.
No Success:
I tried anything from removing sd card, removing sim card, changing the battery, resetting the device, cleaning the cache, flashing the room through odin, flashing the rom with pit file and doing a re partition (Didn't tried Nand erase).
Success:
The only way that I was able to fix the freeze issue was by installing app called Wake Lock and enabling PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK.
But using Wake Lock has its disadvantages. First of all you need to run the app all times which its not practical and second it wipes your battery because it keeps device and processor awake.
Please join this thread anyone who has similar issues with the aim to fix or bring the phone to an usable state again.
I also purchased my GN4 about 2 years ago and just recently got this error. This is really fishy. Wouldn't be surprised if it was Samsung trying to screw over all the root users and get us to upgrade to newer models.

Did you tried Wake Lock if it works? Which model of GN4 do you have ?

Yes, I'm on the Canadian SM-N910W8 model of GN4.
I've been using the Wake Lock app for a few days now and it works perfectly, if you can get the phone to boot into homescreen that is.
For instance, when the phone shuts off due to low battery or an inevitable crash, sometimes getting the phone to boot up is a real pain in the ass because it doesn't boot up correctly most of the time.
However, one odd fix I've discovered is to put your phone and battery in the fridge for about 2-3 minutes and let it cool down completely. And then magically your phone will boot up properly to homescreen again. Activate Wake Lock and you're pretty much good until the next time your phone shuts off and can't boot. My phone will NEVER boot up to homescreen if it is even slightly hot in temperature. In order to boot, it needs to be cool.
I am highly confident that this is indeed a hardware issue, instead of a software issue. The mainboard fails to read memory properly which probably indicates that the mainboard needs to be replaced. I however cannot afford to do this so I hope that I can last atleast 2-3 years of my GN4 surviving through Wake Lock. :crying:

I really don't think it's an hardware issue but even if so, why this started to happen immediately after the update and why it only happens when the device goes to sleep or when we power on the device.
I also noticed the change on bootloader fonts and interface after the update. I'm suspecting that the problem is there.
Does any one has any thoughts about this?
It's a hardware issue. It's a bad nand issue in fact. You can find Reddit posts a mile long about it.
Anyways it will slowly get worse over time. Had to replace the main-board in my SM-N910W myself.

Is there any reason at all why it is happening I mean for the nand issue. I don't like the answer that is motherboard fault and we should replace it, which probably means replacing the phone. Is there anyone who can see deeper into the motherboard to find the issue. I also insist that this started to happen immediately after the second MM update.
I still have an IPhone 3G from 2008 and never changed anything on it. Isn't that ironic ?

It was a Bad batch of nand chip that started to go bad after a year or two. Note 4s started to drop like flies before April.
I think your in the 1st stage of Loss and Grief. 1st stage is denial.
If thats so than Samsung should repair our phones under warranty and not tell us we have to pay for the repair coz we installed custom roms.

same issue here, exactly as described above...
any way to push Samsung to admit bad batch and fix it for us with no charge?

If anyone needs help just pm me.

I would be more interested in understanding how come so many Note 4 devices started acting up around same time mark...
This is definitely a hardware problem with the motherboard. Mine started giving the same symptoms 2 weeks after the 6.01 upgrade. Wakelock made it stable but after Samsung replaced the motherboard it is so much faster and no issues at all. I wonder if this is a faulty NAND issue whether the 6.01 upgrade and the way it manages memory could have triggered it. Certainly strange but it need Samsung to fix it.
I am also having same problem.
I was using custom rom and it was working fine without any lag or freeze suddenly one day my Note fall from bed to ground and since then it is not working properly i thought its the ROM so i reverted back to stock MM rom flashed via odin.
Reset everything erased everything but the problem remains same.
At present i am on stock with hardly any apps just FB and whatsapp.
But my device is so slow and keep lagging and sometimes it becomes very hot and restart itself.
I dont know what to do now. i m on 910 G snapdragon.

Sorry to hear that, as for now jut install wake lock and enable partial_wake_lock so you can use your device until it fails completely
Mmm. I was thinking to root my phone (4month old still under warranty ) i think i changed my mind after reading this ?. Thank you guy's for the warning

Same issues, I downloaded the wake lock and so far so good.
I have the same issue also guys and it started a week after updating to Marshmallow.
Phone worked perfectly fine for 2 years prior to this. So I highly doubt its a hardware issue and more likely a software/firmware problem.
Phone seems to have issues whenever the screen is asleep (hence why the wake lock app seems to help with this problem although not a proper solution)
I'm hoping Samsumg can release a patch fix for this as I truly love my Note 4 and would like to keep it for some time yet.
have anybody tried going back to Lollipop?

I was thinking about that! but I saw on other threads people downgrading with no success.
