Porting my number....Options ?

So i called sprint and *****ed about the crappy service over where I live (it really is)...Long story short, they couldn't give me an early upgrade but they waived the ETF....So i can cancel my service anytime without paying the ETF.....
What I plan to do is get an Evo on the 4th, port my existing number to a voip service and forward those calls to the new number (Evo number).....
So my question is, What/Which is a goodway to port my number so that I can forward calls ? If I port it to a voip or prepaid, how long do I have to wait to port it back to Sprint on the Evo line.....
I don't know the answer to all your questions, but I do know that most carriers will not allow you to re-activate for 90 days. You probably could port to someone elses sprint account...maybe
Wow, 90 days is a long time.....can anyone else confirm this ?
Also, What/Which is a goodway to port my number so that I can forward calls ?

T-mobile samsung vibrant - 3rd party unlockers

I'm looking at getting a Samsung Vibrant locked to the T-mobile network. I need the device unlocked to use on a network in Canada. Due to not being a past or current t-mobile US customer I won't be able to get the unlock code directly. Does anyone know of a reliable 3rd part unlocker that sells codes to this device?
Thanks in advance!
2 options
1. Get an unlocked one (buy it outright). If it is locked, a quick call to T-Mobile should get it unlocked. Anyone know any different?
2. Wait 90 days, then ask T-Mobile to unlock it. They've always been good about that in my experience.
Call T-Mobile and see what their policies are WRT this.
Call Customer Care and request an unlock code. TMo emailed me the code in under 48hrs.
I tried calling tmobile customer care. They won’t process the request since I don’t have a tmobile account. I’ve purchased unlock codes from two sources: unlockallcellular.com and ebay seller "unlockadic". Hopefully at least one of them comes through with a code.
UPDATE: I received the 8 digit unlock code from the source below. Unfortunately I do not have the device yet. Hopefully it works when I get the phone next week.

How can u get unlock code when you haven't had your phone yet?
Did they ask you for IMEI? or you just paid them then received the code?

I had the IMEI to the phone I purchased before it was shipped. The seller took a picture of the device information sticker on the box which has the IMEI on it. I wanted to get a head start on finding a unlock source since the device was so new. Just in case it took days to weeks.

I am also in this situation as the only other option I have is to buy the internation unlocked version which I don't the the 3G works on U.S. carriers. Please update asap
Update: Not sure if anyone is still following this. I received my T-mobile branded vibrant today and unlocked it successfully with the code I purchased from ebay.
If you buy the device at full cost from a t-mobile authorized retailer and have a receipt to prove it, T-Mobile will provide an unlock code within 48 hours (assuming they don't need to contact the manufacturer.)

If you don't mind, can you outline the process for requesting the unlock code from t-mobile given you have a copy of the receipt? I've heard of a few individuals successfully doing this. I called T-mobile customer care directly and they refused to provide an unlock code unless I have a current or past account.

Just call customer care, say you purchased the device at full cost and would like to unlock it. If the representative refuses saying you need an account then they didn't verify the policy before they told you that. At that point you have a choice between simply giving up and going to ebay, insisting that you were told you could unlock it, you can hang up and call back, or you can request a supervisor. They will request that you fax the receipt it, and you will definitely want to get the unlock request #, as there is no account to note the unlock request on.
I may be bias in saying this, but its preferred that you just go with T-Mobile as your carrier anyway... (though that may require a substantial move on your part or significant roaming charges...)

So what person did you get the unlock code from? I'm about to buy a Vibrant myself, also which carrier did you end up getting it unlocked for. Just curious.
The calling option only works if you have a TMO account. If you are using a pre-paid (tmo) type they wont do it.
You need to buy the code. I can get the unlock codes for around $25 dollars or so.
Sometimes less. There is no direct PC unlock (cable unlock yet). Best is IMEI unlocks.
I just purchased the vibrant as well and am currently awaiting an unlock code from "unlockadic" I will also update just to show support for any others that want to have a different carrier
Just had my vibrant unlocked. Yesterday I did a online chat with at mobile csr, told him I'll be traveling soon so I need the unlock code. The csr asked for my email, phone model and IMEI and replied me with the unlock request #. Today I got the code from t mobile by email and it works! I got the phone from costco with the even more plus plan and canceled the plan later. The phone number I put in the form before preceding to online chat is a t mobile prepaid number...

UnlockLiberty.com - They can provide code for $25.

T Mobile $30 Plan with Nexus 4 from Google Play?

Hi there,
I successfully ordered a Nexus 4, 16Gb earlier today at 3.44PM EST
Now, I was reading about the TMobile $30 deal, and it's pretty awesome.
I was wondering if I would be able to use that sim card? Or I have to actually get a phone from TMobile?
I just found this - Is it possible to use this Sim Card with the Nexus?
Thanks

And then I just activate with the plan I want?
Awesome, thanks for your answer.
(Can I get my old number :/) ?
I got this $30 T-Mobile plan, and ported my phone # from VZW. During the activation process, you can choose whether you want to port your #, or get a new one. You can check if your # can be ported at: http://www.t-mobile.com/switch/default.aspx
The Nexus 4 takes a micro Sim card. Make sure you get that, and not the regular SIM!

I'm curently with TMobile, under a family plan (paying $70 a month) and it says that I can't get my number because it'sTMobile...
Sucks, I guess I'll have to get a new one

I think if you port to another carrier then back to Tmo you can still save it
That's gonna be complicated and take some serious time, no ?
Cause I'll have to get a plan with another carrier
?
Thanks

Thanks for the heads up. I had no idea it takes the micro sim. I would've been annoyed when the phone comes and I have the wrong sim.

Just port your number to Google Voice. Then you can use your same # as Caller ID for outgoing calls with all of the GV features. In addition, you can then port the number back to T-Mobile if you want.

Yes did this a while ago, when switching from regular Sprint to SERO Sprint, spent $20 on an ATT go phone and a couple of days to swap numbers back and forth. Though the Google Voice is a great idea then you never have to worry about porting ever again, plus you can even have it forwarded to land lines if you have crap service at home.
Will try with Google Voice.
Thanks everybody for your help. Much appreciated

[Q] Quetions: Brand new to ST and Smart phones

For the last 7 years I have been a vzw customer on a dump flip phone. Ive had two terrible LG models, but the plan was cheap as I was tied on a family share plan and as a college student I didnt want to pay more. Frequency of travel for work has shown me smartphones are useful for connectivity, and with pre paid plans I the cost isnt as high as it would have been on vzw.
Enter the Nexus 4 and my stepping into the smart phone world. Ive been reading up on it and the android ecosystem from about the time the Nexus was sold out. Once it was available I placed and order and now have it in hand. Ive decided on ST with ATT towers, the sim is being delivered today.
My questions begin with activating and porting. If I want to keep my vzw number, what do I have to do with vzw? Do I have to remove that phone and number from the current family share account? Is it something that takes time or needs the account owner? My other thought was to activate the ST sim and get a new number, then use Google Voice to port the old number in the coming days or weeks and have both numbers ring to the new Nexus. Id have to pay 20$, but now I have two numbers and what ever other features GV has to offer. What should I do?
During the activation process you can port your VZW number. As long as your current number is still active on VZW, it should port just fine. Doing this will automatically cancel your number on VZW so if your contract is not up, you will be charged a ETF.
Also, if you want you can activate with a new number and port your number later. Porting to GV is fine but just be aware you can't do MMS or Group Messaging with GV.

Funny, I just started looking at the Nexus 4 yesterday for the same exact reason.

You should port your old number if you still wish to use it. Call customer service to inform them and make the changes from there. Call Verizon to let them know you're leaving and then after that call your new carrier to make the switch.
On another note, when someone makes a major leap from a flip phone to the most advanced smartphone on the market, it will bring many challenges as you head into unfamiliar territory.

To clarify, when you said; call customer service to inform them and make changes from there. Is that the ST customer service or VZW customer service? Then call VZW and ST?
I dont have to worry about an etf, the family share plan is no longer on a 2yr contract and is currently month to month.
Call Verizon first to let them know then call straight talk. Sorry if I was not clear on that.

Galaxy S7 Free Unlock Code Through Samsung Canada Chat

How to unlock Galaxy S7 for Free Credits to: RedFlagDeals
Go to Samsung Canada website > Contact Us http://www.samsung.com/ca/info/contactus.html
Start Live Chat
Tell the rep that you would like to unlock your Galaxy S7
Rep will ask a few questions including your IMEI number and the carrier your S7 (only mention carrier if they ask) is currently locked to.
Within a few days, you will receive an email from Samsung with the unlock code.
Done!
Important Details
Note your Phone Model Number & IMEI before going in chat
Prepare the address of your Samsung Experience Store
Mention you got the phone on Samsung Experience Store or Costo in full
DO NOT mention you are in contract with a carrier.
Example message: (It worked for me)
I bought this phone Samsung S7 G930W8 from Samsung Experience Store at [insert address here, google location near you] few months ago. I'm flying in few days and I want to use my phone abroad while on Vacation. I just want to unlock this phone, that way I can use it for my travel. My IMEI is [insert IMEI here].
There are online during Canada - Pacific Time
Can confirm that this works. I've done it few months ago and again few days for a different phone.
My fiance traveled to Europe and her phone wasn't working with a local sim. She didn't know and input a few wrong codes, I think she tried twice so there was one attempt left. I attempted to contact Samsung and I gave them the Imei and told them it's from Costco.
The agent provided me with the code and my finance tried it once but it didn't work and now it says it requires a master code instead of a network code. The phone still works but network doesn't.
The Samsung agent said he will get me the master code but it'll take 3-5 days. Does anyone know how I can get this faster? I don't want her to be without a phone for that long.
This works perfectly! I've successfully unlocked 2 phones using this method.
Many thanks!
Would this work if my S7 is on AT&T? Wouldn't the Samsung Canada chat people say that they can't help US folks? I can't pretend that the phone is on a Canadian network as the model is GM-930A, correct?

The Samsung rep world know right away that it's a USA phone when they enter the IMEI into their system.
You could try it since it's free to chat with them.

I tried just now and they said they help only with Canadian devices. US support directs me to AT&T who say that the phone is locked to the previous owner. I bought it on Craigslist knowing it was locked. I used on AT&T but now want to switch away from AT&T so was trying to unlock. Guess I am stuck for now. Thanks.

Maybe you can buy an unlock code from eBay?
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/AT-T-ATT-UN...755573?hash=item4b071af9b5:g:Dx4AAOSwzQFZ70Y0
Thanks. I bought it for $0.99. Not sure if that would work as most charge $25. I have a feeling that this seller will just try to use the AT&T unlock service and get the code and forward that. I know AT&T will not unlock my phone so not hopeful but no worries on losing a buck.
Or you can just call your provider and get it unlocked on the spot. It's no longer legal in Canada for carriers to charge you for this

There-in lies the issue. I didn't buy/lease it from AT&T directly. I bought it for $300 off Craiglist a year back and now want to use on T-mobile. However, when I called AT&T they said that the phone is still on someone's account and so they can't unlock it. I have no way of communicating with the seller as that was a Craigslist email address and I have no info and AT&T will not tell me the name/address of the seller (obviously and correctly so).
Did not work for me. They said that my IMEI is not in their system. Well, I didn't buy it there actually, but that was not explicitly stated as a prerequisite in this thread.
