Is anyone actually working on an unlocking solution?

I see a lot of people working on a lot of other things, but is anyone actually actively working on a solution to unlock the Streak?
How did people get their Nexus Ones/Desires unlocked without going to their Telco?
How do these websites get unlock codes for phones? Have they hacked the phones and come up with some kind of keygen?
Or does every unlock code, whether its from a Telco or an independant websirte, ultimately come from the Telco/Hardware manafacturer?

I am looking everything few days at loads of "unlock" sites ...other forums etc.. Still nothing. Expect things start after the streak launch in the US.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought those unlocking sites got the codes direct from the carrier?
Also, i believe those with unlocked Nexus's (myself included) have unlocked ones because they got them direct from Google. All the others are locked down to the different carries. As far as i'm aware, the only way to unlock a phone is from these unlocking sites or via the carrier, and as O2 have said they wont be releasing the unlock codes until next year, it will be a while before the option becomes available.

Unlock sites don't always get unlock codes from carriers. Plenty of people who are able to develop an key generator. Willing to develop one is another matter, guess its all about ROI.

ROI? Republic of Ireland? Why? Is there where most of the key gen devs live?!?!

I've had enough of this unlocking business.
I've tried for three days now, going to over 10 local stores, malls, and other places to see if they can unlock my Rogers Dell Streak. I've tried countless websites only to be disappointed too.
Seriously, what's with carriers locking their phones? If people want to use their network, it should be because of their plans and customer service, not because of what phones they have.
Oh well, I'm selling my Dell Streak now. Very frustrated, because I actually like the device. But until there is a freakin easy way to unlock it, forget it. Not worth the hassle and headache.

Just use a rebel sim, it's only snobbery when people say it's not unlocked with a rebel, when you can do exactly the same thing.
The going rate for a streak code unlock is $100 or £45

Yes, I am looking for unlock code for my Streak too because it's an engineering sample and AT&T doesn't have the unlock code in their comuter.

It would be nice if someone could actually do something about this. Most AT&T folks have it easier since AT&T readily gives out the codes over the phone. Us unfortunate souls stuck with O2 locked Streaks are effectively screwed until O2 decides to change their stance on the unlocking thing. And most of the solutions found online are exorbitantly priced too.

att is giving out unlock codes for the streak. infact they are giving out unlock codes for their other phones too. dunno whats possessed them of all people to start doing that. if you have a rogers streak you can call att, they may have them since i dont think anything is really changed from the att one. i believe o2 is giving out unlock codes for the streak too. if not, you can always try the rebel sim card. it costs money and doesnt work with 2.2 though.

I can unlock without any problems.pm me if you need an unlock. Att only gives them out for SOME existing customers.

Yes: judging by the results of folks on the modaco forum keep pestering o2 until you get a result.

unlocking my Streak
I have a Streak which bought privately and an o2 sim only contract
If this is of any help, hear is the way I just unlocked mine free of charge and a day later (yesterday) my upgrade to 2.2 came through, bearing in mind this has taken about 10 days. you will understand why, as you read!
I emailed o2 and simply asked for an unlocking code, knowing the reply I would get setting in motion my already written response thanks to adzman over ad Modaco

I'm sorry the Dell Streak can't be unlocked by us as it's an exclusive phone and the manufacturer haven't given us the unlocking rights. Please contact the manufacturer to get it unlocked. My understanding is the streak is no longer exclusive to o2 & therefore should qualify for unlocking. Other people have successfully obtained an unlock code for their streak from o2 The streak is now available on orange & vodafone (unable to post link) Also the streak is available sim free directly from dell or via tesco & argos (unable to post links) I understand that when first released this handset was exclusive to o2 & therefore not available for unlock. But as I’ve demonstrated this is no longer the case. I have no intention to leave o2, I like O2 that's why I came back to you, It's the fact that I bought this O2 Dell Streak privately and am using a sim only contract from you. Besides the dell streak is now available for unlocking via 3rd party companies (unable to post link) Please can you provide the unlock code, obviously I would rather deal directly with yourselves, but if need be I can get my device unlocked via the 3rd party. as i say, I’m very happy with O2 - please don't ruin the relationship I have with O2. The procedure is simple take out your sim and put in a competitors, Tmobile, Vodafone etc. it will then ask for the code when you switch back on.
All this was over a 10 day period

I got an unlock code from calling AT&T. They said to enter another carriers SIM card, to get the prompt for the code. I do not know anyone who has a service with a SIM card in my city, besides T-Mobile. And no one here uses crappy T-Mobile.
My question is: how else can I get the prompt to unlock without another carriers SIM card?
(Dell will call AT&T on your behalf to get the code as well if you are scared of the AT&T techs)

you can get a free pay as you go sim from the Tmobile site, don't know how long it will take to come through or maybe get in touch with somebody local to send you an expired one.

I have a bunch of expired tmo sims laying around if you need one.

Once again, some will some will not. And mostly if youre in need of an unlock code youre not planning on using att, which att WILL NOT provide an unlock code to non customers sadly.

Question unlocking rogers dell streak

Hello i have a couple of questions. First i am thinking about buying a rogers dell streak but would like to use it on bell. I called omega cell in edmonton and they said they cant unlock it can it be unlocked online? Also what is everones opinion of it?

i love this phone having had a dozen or so in the last few years. mine is at&t unlocked so im sure the rogers one must be unlockable as well.

I just ordered one from dell after reading what froyo 2.2 can do on the streak which makes the streak a perfect device for me. The only downside is that it's locked to rogers, althought I'm on rogers network but i would love to have the flexibility to use other carriers in the event I am traveling aboard. I read somewhere that unlocking service is available but it's expensive - over $100. I checked with dell before I ordered and they said they don't offer the unlocking code. Now the last resource is going after rogers which I have not done yet, and I probably will do and just have to wait a little bit because it's still new until rogers put up the streak on their website.

I plan on using it on bell and rogers and just switch sim cards. My galaxy s is buggy as hell it will be sent away for 4 or 5 weeks for the second time and rogers doesnt work where I work but it the only other phone out in canada that I'm intrested in. well I don't mined paying 100 dollars to get it unlocked. What unlock site can be trusted.

I ordered one from Dell Canada on November 9 and the scheduled delivery date is this Thursday, November 18. When I read yesterday that unlocked Streaks are coming to the US in a few weeks with Froyo pre-loaded, I called Dell customer service (located in India) and asked to cancel my order. My order was still showing as "Not shipped" as of yesterday. The CSR told me that my order has almost gone through the manufacturing process and it is too late to cancel it now. He said I could refuse to take delivery when Purolator delivers it to me and that my money will be refunded. That's what I plan to do. I don't know if or when Dell Canada will sell the unlocked Streak, so I may have to get it from Dell USA.

I read about the unlocked version will be available soon in the US but I doubted that the unlocked version will be highly for T-Mobile users which is not compatible with rogers / at&t. Dell has exclusive contract with at&t and thus would not sell unlocked version compatible with at&t/rogers.

You brought up a very good point about proven unlocked site. I guess we just have to wait and I'm sure more unlocking service sites will pop up soon and feedbacks from users.

You might be right.

Unless things have changed in the last four days since I wrote to those guys, they said they cannot unlock the Dell Streak. It even says so on their website for the Dell Streak. I am not able to post the link, but when you go to the link you provided above, click on Rogers (it is at the top where they show the wireless carriers), then scroll down and click on 'Streak Dell of Rogers'. At the bottom of that page you will see where they say they cannot unlock the Streak. As I mentioned, to cross-check on that, I wrote them four days ago and they wrote back saying "No, sorry", they cannot unlock it.

When will rogers carry them in store i need the phone ASAP and can't get it mailed to me?

hmmm, thats weird. My email was sent today once I got confirmation of my new Streak being shipped. My email also included the IMEI, so maybe they quickly ran it. ????? Since they offer a good refund clause, I will try it when the phone shows up and let everyone know.

Rogers is selling outright for $599 and Dell is selling only $549 ........ Interesting. I bought mine from Dell and it will take weeks to get the phone but I could save $50.

I bought mine from rogers outright to use on fido.I got a rebel sim to unlock it and it worked.

I just went to the Mobileincanada website, put in the IMEI #, click on the button "Check if We can unlock your phone" and it gets back "Yes we can unlock your Dell Streak". At $20, I think this is a good deal ! Maybe I'll unlock it ... but then, I don't have any other Carrier's SIM to test.

If you put your IMEI code and it said it could then go ahead cause when i enter mine it says they can't unlock my streak at the moment. So i'm stuck with the Rebel sim card and there is no way i'm send it through the mail.

i'm assuming it was unlocked before?
Have you tried using the same unlock code you used to unlock it?
or if you bought it unlocked i'd say email/call dell.

If you were hsing a rebel sim to unlock thats more than likely the reason.

If your locked to O2 like I was then fill in their online support form and ask for the unlock code while giving them your Imei. If they come back to you saying no they can't, just reply insisting they can as they did it for others as reported on Modaco forum. It took me 5 reply emails before they caved in and gave it to me

one of whome said that as they were an 'exclusive supplier' they couldn't help i emailed them back saying that they were not as tesco, orange and vodafone all sell it.

its possible to extract the codes out of the Streak from home also now with software even you cant get the codes and dont want to downgrade to 2.1 or 1.6 to use rebel sim II.

I bought a cellular phone dell streak from bestbuy USA with $549.99 Reg. Price. But I can not unlock dell streak by code to use in VietNam. I checked online to get unlock code but server informed that "not found".
How can I get code to unlock dell streak.

The unlock code is based on your IMEI number so there is not a one to fit all.
There are online services that will generate a unlock code for a price.
I have service with AT&T and their customer service was very willing to give me an unlock code for my phone. But I don't think they are as helpful to non-customers.
And these are the only two choices for an unlock code.
There are some SIM based options out there.

Usually, you can just call them up, give them the "travelling out of the country" spiel, and they'll unlock it for you in a matter of minutes. They don't really care to check whether you're a customer or not. Worth a try anyway!

If you are on At&t just call and ask for the unlock code, did it twice already, just give them the IMEI number of your streak.

Will it stay unlocked if I update to a Stock/custom DJ Steve Rom.

Yep, once it's unlocked it's unlocked for good.

I got many big problems with dell streak from Dell, AT&T and BestBuy

i bought a dell streak (full price) from BestBuy usa. Then i returned to VietNam. But i can't use my streak because it requires unlock code. I tried to contact with many code provider, but they said that my unlock code is not found. they asked me to contact with dell to get information.
today i called for dell, at&t and bestbuy. But i were very disappointed. they said that can not to find unlock code for me. i'm look like a unlucky guy. because they got some problems with my dell streak. they request me to give my streak back for them to check in 30 days. you know, i live in vietnam and i can't fly to usa just to give streak back for them. it's not fair because i paid full price for that thing.
Now i got pda streak without phone. I don't know what I have to do with it. I took much time for it, but i got nothing. It's not fair.

My Streak is in the same situation. I purchased an used one from ebay, DELL claimed it's beta test one based on the service code that I provided. It works with AT&T sim card, but not T-Mobile, which I am using now. AT&T CR said no unlock code for my IMEI number.

I agree, there are some phones that ATT has on the "no questions asked" SIM unlock, and the streak should be one especially since they don't even carry it. All I did was call 611 (customer support), and said I was going out of the country on business and needed an unlock code so I could use a prepaid SIM card and they gave it to me no questions asked. They do need your IMEI as previously stated, but after that, they should give it up like a cheap prom date!

I'm having the same problem at the moment. I've unlocked 2 black streaks by calling AT&T. But when I called to unlock my white Streak, they told me that their system tells them that there is no unlock code available
I can use it with a Rebelsim though and since Steve has started releasing his froyo builds with the old baseband, there's no real need to unlock at the moment.
