Hey i am going to buy a new phone soon and wants to choose out of those three phone. With my phone, I usually text, call, instant message, go on facebook, listen to music and videos, and web surf.
Main things i like about three phones,
Nexus S
Pure google, fast updates, Good amoled screen, android market and curved screen.
I like it most at the fact that its pure google.
G2
Physical Keyboard, Led Notification, android market and HSPA+ network.
HD7
4.3" BIG screen, Zune software, Smooth scrolling
any suggestions???

Nexus S - Will be one of the first to get the latest updates, the curved screen, its slim, and its 4" screen is great for texting. Can't forget the Gyroscope
G2 - LED, the HSPA+ (i think i spelled it wrong), the sexy keyboard, unfortunately... I dont think it will receive a 2.3 update since it requires a 1ghz and G2 has 800mghz ): (but you'll never know)
Main thing I would look at would be the keyboard or the 4" super amoled screen. Nexus S is the way to go in my opinion.

Well if it cant, you can just download a magnificent app called "tango" it allows you to chat over 3G. It was made for iphone 4 since it only does wifi but it allows you to use 3G audio and display is super legit. It kinda worked on the G2 but audio didnt work

I guess I'll be at best buy on the 16. Been wanting to upgrade from the myTouch 3G slide. Was looking at the Nexus One from Ebay a month back as well the G2 but then heard about the Nexus S. I can get this using my upgrade from Tmobile.

The G2 has a second gen snapdragon and even @800MHz it benchmarks higher than the 1ghz hummingbird. What I mean to say is that if the Galaxy S/Nexus S can run 2.3 so can the G2.

I'm just glad there aren't really any phone fanatics here in my city which means the shopping will be an easy walk in and walk out Best buy is 5 minutes away too. Well take out that "walk in and walk out" part because I know the line will be full of Christmas shoppers, so its more like a walk in-grab-wait for 45ish minutes in the line and walk out kinda buy, know what i mean?
do yourself a favor and get the g2. i switch from the nexus one and i can't believe how awesome this phone is. the hardware is one of the best out right now and its stock android. root it and you'll be set with updates from cyanogenmod. the 1ghz needed to upgrade to gingerbread is a myth, its already said phones with froyo can upgrade. the nexus s doesn't even have anything on the g2. trackpad? led? hspa+? keyboard? great quality build? 720p? external sd card? only thing it has is gingerbread...and i'm sure cyanogenmod team won't take long to have a release candidate out like he did with cm 6.1. go with g2!

G2 is not stock android, it is loaded with tmobile bloat.
G2 hinge design is flawed and flimsy.
G2's screen is terribly washed out compared to amoled, i'm sure s-amoled will look even better.
The G2 is very thick and bulky.
The G2 has no front facing camera, or NFC.
The G2 is not a developer phone like the nexus s, and will not have anywhere near as much dev support as it. It will also not receive future OS updates as soon as the nexus line.
I'd rather have the faster iNAND internal memory over a swappable microsd any day.
720p, if not available...will be a simple software tweak away.
HSPA+ offers 14 Mbit/s max dl, and HSPA offers 7.2 Mbit/s. I've never seen or heard of anyone getting anywhere near either's max...having a ceiling of 7.2 Mbit/s on my cellphone is plenty.
Oh yeah...t-zones internet access for $5.99 is hard to beat too, which is impossible on a tmobile branded phone like the G2.

get the hd7 best out of all of them the nexus s is the same as a vibrant your on here anyway you might as well mod your vibrant and save a butt load of cash, the g2 is good but its not that great all it really has going for it is the 4g and the hd7 has the biggest screen extremely responsive so cool and its getting a huge update in Jan they might as well call it wp8 apparently

Id have to agree 100 %!! G2 been there done that! Its not a stock phone by far its a lie. The underlying story is that Tmobile has their hand all over it.
Want proof? What about the inability to tether out of the box or root might I add. Its a freaking joke. I cant believe I bought one thinking its going to be updated by google. The truth is in the upcoming weeks, if the G2 gets 2.3 then come back and through this post back at my face.

Same here. I returned the G2 after using it for a few weeks. Mine was full of problems. The faulty hinge, sporadic signal loss with no fix but a reboot. Also a few times the G2 completely shut off while replying to a text or browsing the web. No matter what I did, the G2 would not turn on. Only thing it would do was flash the orange led light if i tried connecting it to the charger. I would just let it sit and try after ~30 min. It did always turned back on though. I was eager to try out the HSPA+ since I'm in an area where it's been turned on for a while, but I never experienced any high speeds. My N1 and G2 would average the same. So tomorrow I will be picking up the Nexus S. I don't see any deal breakers for me specs-wise.

I agree, I was thoroughly disappointed with the G2 and will never go back to it again. I also owned the HD7 for 2 weeks and it was a good phone, not great. The speaker on the HD7 was much better than the G2's as well as the camera/720p. It did have some pink tint issues, however. Why did I return that phone too? I missed all the flexibility of Android and kind of preferred a smaller phone. Will I come back to WP7 in the future? You bet.. once a few updates have rolled out.
So basically, the best phone of the three you listed is the Nexus S. I think you know this too, otherwise you would have posted this question in either the G2 forum or HD7.

-IMPROVED BATTERY LIFE OVER NEXUS (it's all over the net people look it up if you dont believe me)
-What looks to be a sharper screen
-Way better touch sensitivity (= better screen typing)
-Much snappier and faster than the Nexus
-Boots very fast
-Keyboard is very nice
-Hinge is sturdy and not bad
(dont listen to the haters everyone hates t-mobile)
-Keyboard has 3 dedicated buttons u can customize
-Dedicated Camera button (really a nice touch)
-Back is chromed out and still has LED flash
Cons
-WEIGHT (Nexus = 4.6 oz vs G2 = 6.5 oz)
-WEIGHT (heaviest phone, 0.5 oz heavier than Evo)
Thats the thing. Besides the weight, there is nothing else that makes this phone WORSE than the Nexus.
I say this based on the fact that in a few days-week the G2 will have tethering and mobile hotspot support.
I traded my Nexus + 50 dollars for the G2 and I was originally gonna sell the G2 but now i am keeping it.
The G2 is a well designed, well made phone that has a great screen, keyboard, and battery life.
You cant go wrong getting a G2, in fact, all you Nexus One owners should try and get a new phone soon bc the Nexus One's resale is dropping fast.
A month ago the phone was worth 500 easily now its pushing 300-400 if you do it through craigslist. Ebay still holds steady at 500 same with Amazon.
Bottom line: Nexus One owners have a hot phone they can easily parlay into a trade on craigslist like i did.
There is no need to wait for the next gen of phone, take your nexus one, get a g2, its faster, better battery life than nexus, and has a keyboard.

Only things that I think the people here on Xda would disagree with you on the G2 being better than a Nexus One are:
1) Hard to root since it resets the phone every reboot
2) Physical keyboard might not be for everyone... as I've said before I like a phone that can slide into my front pocket without the added bulk of a keyboard making people think I have an erection =/
3) At the mercy of T-mobile to get updates and features. Gonna get gingerbread but who knows if you will get anything after that?
The G2 is a wonderful phone though I agree and pretty much think of it as a Nexus One that has traded:
A) freedom from carriers holding back OS updates and features
B) freedom to root
For:
A) physical keyboard

Edit: Two things I caught reading your email are you don't like the battery life + touch sensor. For me these things are not even a consideration since:
1) I carry a tiny spare battery in wallet to last an entire day of heavy, heavy use.
2) The only games i play are emulators using a bluetooth wiimote so I don't even use the multitouch for games so the clearpad issue is overblown.

I could go on, but that is enough for now... I dropped the G2 back in the mail to T-Mo, and resumed use of my N1 within a week. The G2 has potential, but massively sucks.
I think the next phone I will consider is the Droid Terminator in 2011Q1...
I don't want a device with a keyboard...I find the Nexus One to be the perfect form factor. G2 can never be, for me. I'm keeping and using my two Nexus Ones until they die.

I've noticed it does effect zooming sometimes, typing on the touch keyboard, and sometimes is just completely off and you have to put into standby and come back to fix it.
For me the major problems in the n1 is the touch screen issue, battery life is short, the gpu is weak, and call quality is not what i'm used to.
Made the switch too and loving it. Screen does seem nicer and keyboard is great especially for my emulators. The extra weight also feels good in my hand so I see that as a pro. Still got my Nexus for gingerbread purposes and as a backup. No root is not a con and notice you said no root YET we have cyanogen, enomther, and other devs working on the G2 and we do have a rom sure its only on temp root and you gotta run terminal commands and ext partition to use it its still a rom. As far as memory goes there is 4gb just not all available to user, 1.5gb is more then enough for app storage more would be nice but not necessary and plus some ppl are saying its a kernel issue and can be fixed in OTA. In the end though I love this phone, I still lurk around the Nexus forums and right now have my nexus put away in my otterbox just incase something happens to my G2

You forgot the biggest Conn of all; the hinge issue that will ultimately plague ALL G2s. I went to TMO store after launch and their G2 already didn't stay in place. I held it upside down and the screen just hung from the phone. Now you may not have this issue right now but like all moving parts they will give out. Daily use of the keyboard will wear out the plastic parts of the hinges fast. So, in about two months when all the dual core hspa+ phones hit the market you'll wish you hadn't wasted your upgrade.
800mhz Processor? It even looks like the Nexus One style. Missing Colored Trackball alerts. Thickness... meh.

Don't know about you guys but I'm playing with both! Have my N1 since spring and made it my *****. Huge thanks to Evil's Desire HD!! Also, my wife just got the G2 and we trade every once in a while. I really like both phones.
Ive used the G2 more and more over the course of this week.
Updates:
-Nexus one call quality IS HORRIBLE compared to G2
-Nexus one RECEPTION is HORRIBLE compared to G2
-Nexus one battery is MODERATELY worse than the G2
Mytouch4G is going to be a joke.
You can NOT compare the craftsmanship of the G2 to the mytouch sorry.
G2 is like a macbook, mytouch line is like fisher price
i know you may say there is no comparison that is what people should realize as well...
A moderately faster processor and front facing camera isnt going to poop on the G2
That's why alot of you guys with a Nexus should take advantage of the chance to trade for a G2 on craigslist and get a phone with a higher resale value that will hold its 400 resale for at least 6-8 months whereas in 6-8 months the Nexus One will barely fetch 200-250.
Thats a big difference. And you get the benefit of using a faster phone that has better call quality and reception.

Wow, aside from the keyboard, you just described my next phone to a T. I absolutely love my Nexus One and so far nothing has even tempted me. I like the size of the Evo's screen, but honestly it feels kinda sluggish compared to my N1. I think the Motorola T2 *might* be my next phone if Google doesn't try and do another "direct from Google" device. We shall see.....

You can't see the big picture so I will explain. Holding the phone upside down is just an example of the the higes are now. As the hinges get worn out more the phone will come apart in your pocket and if you dont grab it the right the the phone will get caught in your pocket; you'll answer the phone in your pocket or hang up on the person. Maybe the phone will catch the corners of your pocket and put more stress on the hinges. The point is in the long run you will have to put more attention into handling your phone than you should, b/c of the design.
I want a new phone without a keyboard.

I'm happy to say that I'm back on my Samsung Vibrant! The G2 is a great looking phone, and fast at that too. Issues that made me walk away from it....
Hinge was fine when I first got it, but after a few weeks it got really loose.
Force closed on my Apps so many times, it made me wanna toss it out the window a few times.
Rebooted itself at least once a day. This morning it did it 3 times back-to-back. Really?!?!
Can't get a perm root, and it looks like a few are starting to give up on it. I'm sure it'll be rooted, but not any time soon.
I really missed the Vibrant crew. You guys are a bunch of cool Mother F__kers!

I didn't do anything to it at all. I didn't even try to install temp root either. I didn't want to mess with the phone till their was a perm root.
If you go to the G2 forum section, you'll see that a few people had a issues with the phone rebooting on its own. Even when I called T-Mobile about the issue, I was told that they've been getting calls about the issue.

There has definitely been people having issues with the phone rebooting by itself. Sometimes even 3 times in a day like he mentioned. Seen plenty of people on my Twitter timeline complain about it. There seem to be a lot of issues with the phone.

I am on my third G2 with the fourth replacement on the way and so far all have had very similar issues.1.Very very poor to no reception. 2. random rebooting, 3. Black screen freezes. 4. Dropped calls. 5. Loose hinges that keep getting looser. 6. When deploying keyboard apps start randomly. 7. Very difficult to connect to market. 8. Powers itself off on a random basis. I am so Grateful that I still have my Vibrant. So far I would rank it way above the G2. If my fourth one has the same issues and there is no OTA update to fix some of them I will send it back. IMO I believe the Vibrant is the best phone available at this time.

Actually I'm not giving my Vibrant up just yet. Once my G2 gets here I'll have both. I was able to get the G2 new for $200 flat-out (no contract) So I'm gonna keep them both for a while and see what happens. Then maybe I'll sell one

Of all those phones only the HD2 came close in overall performance to the Vibrant...... but not android and what a battery hog- did like the htc sense
What I like about the Vibrant (besides almost everything) it is very forgiving when you brick, I have been able to restore from all screwups I have created within 1 hr.
Within the first 20 min of trying a G2 I knew it was going to be buggy that is why I stayed with this phone

Anyone try the EVO 4G? I wouldn't switch, I was just wondering. I love my vibrant, but my friend is switching because of the hype of 4G and the large screen. I've never tried seen an EVO up close so I'm not sure how good it really is.

Yeah I had the Evo before I got my Vibrant. It's a good phone, but Sprint sucks and the hype of the 4G is complete bull. I got about 4mbps tops on 4G and my Vibrant gets 6.

This thread help me decide somethings. I am kicking Verizon to the curb because of billing issues. I am really looking at T-Mobile. Not sure if I want the Vibrant or HD2. I have a Droid X and now hooked on the 4.3".
Had thought about Evo but know the battery is horrible. I thought of the G2 because of HSPA+ but looks like I need to do the Vibrant or HD2.

Personally I'd rather they get rid of RFS before I worry about Froyo. Faster JIT sounds nice but when your largest bottleneck is the FS, it doesn't matter. It's like driving a Ferrari in a school zone.
I love everything about the phone except the RFS. RFS is an example of companies drinking their kool-aid and wearing their sneakers, with the same result when it comes to plastic bags and breathing.
If you flash Bionix, Master ROM, AOSPish, or Eugene's R4, your phone will run like butter. Like. It's ridiculous how fast this thing is. I can't even stand to use the Nexus One it feels so laggy after witnessing such smoothness on the vibrant.
Other than that. My G2 also went back. It's not worth the hype nor the money. They could have made it AWESOME but no, they made it suck. The Vibrant is THE best phone. It out-performs EVERY phone in both power and slickness. The screen is the best. Once we get Froyo rolling we will be king. Forever. The only comparable/better phone to the Vibrant in smoothness (on menus/swyping screens) is the iPhone 4. But that's Crapple.
As far as the Evo 4g goes, it's ugly, and 4g aka Wimax is ***** **** that can't even touch T-Mobile's 3g itself, let alone HSPA+. My vibrant pulls 6.3mb/s. Sprint's 4g can't do that. Sprint is a joke and should be sued for false advertising
As far as the Droid X goes, it's huge and bulky. I just got one for testing on WQVGA854 screens for my apps. It's a decent device but it is more sluggish than anticipated even on Froyo. My vibrant on 2.1 runs Way smoother than my Nexus, G2, and DroidX combined, and they're all froyo.
The Vibrant is also a lot more slick than the Droid X. The Droid X is huge.
Also, depending on your location of course, T-Mobile is the best and 2nd cheapest (cricket), and most honest *cough*at&t*cough* provider. They have the nicest reps and the fastest 3g.
Vibrant -> ALL.
Vibrant 2.2 ---------------------------> all
Not to mention the Vibrant can get the FFC now as well. HSPA+ is only 8-10MB/s here in Pittsburgh as compared to 6.3MB/s, so it's not THAT big of a difference.

And an unlimited-point touch screen with a QuadrupleSuperAMOLED HD lmao and 1920/1080 resolution... ROFL. Along with T-Mo's 42mb/s HSPA+ when that rolls. Not to mention a Camera button on the same side as the volume rocker and a mini HDMI out on the other side and... blah. Yes I dream.. 10 megapixel camera... records 1080p... a WiFi module with the power of a laptop's... and some real bluetooth compatibility... and a flash on the back camera... Make it Quad Core processor at 3.0GHz too LOL. I've gone too far.
OH and can't forget the quad-speaker setup that it should also have. Two speakers on the back and two speakers on the front. (top/bottom) and a 6800 mAh battery... that lasts like. 2 weeks. And make the touch screen feel like you could almost be touching water. But not wet.
Hahahaha. And. Uh. 1TB mini-SSD internal drive With 8GB/s transfer rate. Boots up in 5 seconds. Would be instant but needs a splash screen

Yeah You are dreaming...and misrepresenting the truth. By the time you get Froyo it will be time to get a new phone. I had the Vibrant for almost 30 days (Cali) sent it back before the remorse period. I rooted it on the first day, the screen is over saturated for my taste (hurts the eyes) and the quality of the phone is plastic and flimsy. The Samsung Epic is a better choice. As for Sprint, I have hit 10+ downloads speeds in the valley and overall they have more coverage (3G) then T-Mobile. The Roms for the Vibrant were sorely insufficient for my taste as well, plus touchwiz is just ugly. Try taking a picture without any light, no video calls, no front camera, no dual led flash= less than Evo or Epic. However, it is slightly behind Nexus and Incredible as far as what it can do. The processor is geared toward gaming, but in other areas it will fall short. Run a linpack on that thing if and when you get Froyo and tell me what you get. You will never get above 20 mflops. So, in that area all the other phones I mentioned are killing the Vibrant.
I returned 2 g2's because of random reboots, so yes that is an issue

i have the vibrant and its rooted and i use it as my daily internet tether, its fast and i donwload stuff,but i have been getting a feeling to trade it for a tmobile G2, should i guys, what do you guys think?

I have owned both. I prefer the vibrant. Going from a vibrant, the G2 screen looks abit washed out. Keyboard is nice though.

If a heavier feel, smaller non SAMOLED screen, higher benchmark scores, physical keyboard (and possible not so reliable hinges that come with it) are the thing for you, go ahead.
At least CM is very proficient with HTC devices, so you will get one of the best customized ROM's for your device instantaneous given you don't brick it while perma-rooting it.
As far as I can see, real life performance these two are comparable, Sammy gets an icing on the cake thanks to awesome screen though.
EDIT: And as far as the hspa+ capabilities of the phone, if you get the service in the area you are in and you think it is worth it, then all I can say your 5GB/mo limit will deplete faster and you will be throttle to EDGE anyway.

Same exact reason I returned MT4G and went back to Vibrant. Once you SAMOLED, you just can't go back .
@OP: If you are hitting 7 Mbps on your Vibrant, that means the connection in your area is very good (and probably with very little traffic congestion). Since you are maxing out on your Vibrant, I am going to go out on a limb and say 4G phones (G2/MT4G) will give you better than 7 Mbps. Not that you need it...

I got to test the G2 out because one of my mates have one and I will admit the G2 seems to be more responsive, but I missed the Vibrant screen and I think I am one of the few people who actually likes and enjoys the Touchwiz UI.
I stopped by the newest tmobile store last week and tried out the hd7, mytouch 4g and g2 along with my vibrant. The hd7 did impress me(though I hear negative long term reviews), the mytouch was responsive and I liked it, but the "mysense" UI seems a little cheesy. The g2 I tried out definitely was not lag free. Quicker than the stock vibrant, but there was noticeable lag going through menus and apps... more so than the mytouch.
If it weren't for the aesthetics and keyboard, I'd get the g2. I think it looks outdated, and have no need for a physical keyboard bulking up my phone. I am envious of the processor, but my modified vibrant runs how I'd hope any high end phone to run. Stock for stock - g2.

Only you can answer this question. Personally, I would not take the screen downgrade. Ever. No way. I find the SAMOLED to be hands down the most attractive display on any mobile device right now. The only thing that even comes close is the IPS panel in the iPhone 4, but side by side the SAMOLED is faster and has a more accurate color gamut including true blacks.
If you're going to trade the Vibrant for anything, at least wait for Nexus S or Galaxy S2.

Lol your vibrant is getting 7.9mbps? When hsdpa max is only 7.2mbps? Wow you got a special phone you really should keep it
The Vibrant's got an awesome screen and is much lighter. But the G2 is noticeably faster. And I'm not talking about the internet speeds. There is no lag in anything it does. The Vibrant with all the lag fixes is still slower. It's ironic inspite of the supposedly better hardware. The reason I returned the G2 was because of the crap HTC and T-Mobile pulled with the non-permanent root.
But seeing the way the Froyo update is going on the Vibrant and Cynanogen's mod is progressing and the fact that a working permanent root is now possible with the G2, I think it's only a matter of time that I trade in my Vibrant for the G2. From now on, I'm going to stick with HTC. Samsung's simply not doing itself any favors by dragging its feet with new OS releases. I thought that it would be different with a world wide release of the Samsung Galaxy S, but I was wrong. By the time we get 2.2, 2.3 will be out. With HTC and Cynanogen's mods, I'd get upgraded much faster.
i say 7.9 mbps because i was downloading through tether and i use speedtest and it showed 7.9mbps tops. im not lying, but i might just keep it becasue of the screen and the lag free roms out there.thanks for your help guys

The Vibrant has a better quality Camera.
The Vibrant has a dedicated DSP(music sounds better)
The Vibrant has TV-Out.
The Vibrant Screen Glass is smoother and nicer.
The Vibrant as 4" screen(anything smaller feels tiny)
The Vibrant has a good speaker.
The G2 has a ****ty speaker(It's really tinny)
The G2 hinge felt cheap.
PSX4Droid runs slower on the G2.
Snesoid was more fun on the G2(The Keyboard)

Vibrant 3G speeds in an HSPA+ market are impressive (especially for a 3G phone), but I don't even think it's possible to get speeds that high on a Vibrant...
the highest I consistently get with speedtest.net app is 6.5M

7.2 is the highest you'll download on the phone, or tether from a computer through the phone. This is what you sound like:
"I tethered my netbook to a computer with a dial-up modem (via Internet Connection Sharing) and was downloading files at 3mbps... It was awesome!"
Speedstests are widely known to be often inaccurate.
Even HSPA+ handsets are having trouble achieving those speeds on T-Mobile's network, as well as WiMAX handsets for Sprint (average speeds being ~5-6mbps).
That's part of the reason why HSPA+ isn't much of a selling point. The only real advantage of it is better ping (which may matter for some applications notably VoIP and Video Chat applications) and better upload speeds (ditto).
I have used both, and my friend and I have discussed, studied, compared my vibrant and his G2. The Facts are this
Screen: Vibrant has better color,bigger,etc. G2 has a great screen, but SAMOled wins
Proc: G2 wins this easily (wont go into specifics, but its far better then the vibrants)
GPU: I Theory vibrant wins, in use I peg them equal since I dont see lag with either.
Storage: Vibrant wins there of course XD but G2 can have 32gb sd card, which is more then enough
Data Speeds: G2 of course
All other areas are really the same, you can get really picky and point out the 2-channel ram bus on the vibrant, the OC ability of the G2, etc. But in the end of the day, they're both are absolute top of the line. If you like your vibrant, keep it, if you really want the G2 go for it, you wont be disappointed. The choice is all in what you want, nobody can tell you what you want......except maybe Steve Jobs....he seems good at that XD lol

I just wanted to say one thing about this, since its your opinion and you welcome to it, but I do believe the G2 has a dedicated DSP also. The G2 from what I remember has a dedicated 5.1channel audio processor, which also is part what i believe to be the reason for its amazing noise canceling ability =) And the G2 speaker really is not that bad (My G1 has a terrible speaker XD) The size difference is also minimal in my opinion, 3.7 vs 4? that .3in, not much really. The G2 I have used has show itself to more then easily keep pace with the vibrant in many aspects, and they trade blows for different things. Its all down to preference and I prefer my vibrant =)
Is there anything I should know before making this trade?
Also, is the G2 easy to flash? Good ROMS available? Anyone else have a G2 that replaced your Vibrant? Are you happier with the G2? ect.

if cyanogen has been 'good' to your opinion in the past, yes. there is a nightly gingerbread which i'm enjoying very much right now.
my g2 gets about a 16 day on a stock battery charge, light usage. heavy usage = 12 hours. no useage = not sure, but better than a day.
sorry, no comment on the vibrant.
I am wary of the person who want's to trade away his G2, because the G2 is obviously better than the vibrant in every single way.
If there is nothing wrong with his G2, fuking grab up that shiet ASAP.
Dev for G2 is great. There is at least like 4 different ROMS currently available. The community here is great. The G2 has better hardware...

Can someone explain to me how the g2 is "better than the vibrant in every way"? Sure, the vibrant doesn't have the support the g2 does, but it can be just as quick, has a larger screen, lighter and sleeker.
Stock for stock, the g2 wins of course. Modded, it's personal opinion. I prefer the sleeker phone and don't need a physical keypad. If you need a physical keypad, obviously the g2 beats out just about everything else out there with one.

okay so i got both these phones and i find that i like the vibrant better. i leave my g2 just sitting at my desk and i barely got it like a week or two ago. yes i did perm root it and it has s off and all that and its running a virtous (correct me if i got the name wrong) sense rom. i like my g2 sometimes but the vibrant right now has more development and the g2 hasnt really had any new roms for like a while now. so i stick to the vibrant becasue mostly everyday theres a new update to a rom or someone finds a cool hack. anyways i think you should stick to the vibrant, personally i like my vibrant more, plus correct me if im wrong but i havent seen a modem thread for the g2 or a dragon kernel or any of the things team whiskey puts together. please g2 fan boys dont hate me, i do love my g2 too (lol) and i actually find it useful sometimes. i just think the vibrant is doing better right now. imho thats what i think. : /
I had both, vibrants got a gorgeous screen, but thats about the only plus. Built quality and hardware are far superior on the G2. You don't need a 1.512 GHz phone, but isn't it nice to know its capable?
Having only slate phones for a year and a half (mt3g, Nexus, Virbant) after selling my G1, I taught would never need a physical keyboard, but after using the G2 for 2 weeks I can't see myself ever typing on the virtual keyboard, even tho I LOVE Swiftkey. Even with the insanely smart predictive UI of Swiftkey I still type much faster on a hardware keyboard.

okay so i got both these phones and i find that i like the vibrant better. i leave my g2 just sitting at my desk and i barely got it like a week or two ago. yes i did perm root it and it has s off and all that and its running a virtous (correct me if i got the name wrong) sense rom. i like my g2 sometimes but the vibrant right now has more development and the g2 hasnt really had any new roms for like a while now. so i stick to the vibrant becasue mostly everyday theres a new update to a rom or someone finds a cool hack. anyways i think you should stick to the vibrant, personally i like my vibrant more, plus correct me if im wrong but i havent seen a modem thread for the g2 or a dragon kernel or any of the things team whiskey puts together. please g2 fan boys dont hate me, i do love my g2 too (lol) and i actually find it useful sometimes. i just think the vibrant is doing better right now. imho thats what i think. : /

Vibrant DOES NOT have more support that the G2
just look at t he G2 section and tell me there no new roms
every rom is CONSTANTLY updated with better support
vibrant only has like 2 good ROMS to try while G2 has 4 or so
each with unique features.
The Vibrant does have a bunch of ROMs available, however none of them have been completely stable for me. I thought with the official 2.2 release that would be fixed, but I'm still dealing with all the same crap.
I went and checked out the G2 in the store yesterday and I definitely like it. I think the screen looks great and can't understand why people bash it.
Dude that's willing to trade said I need to unlock the Vibrant first, which I think I've already managed. I'll definitely be trading.

There are two phones called the G2. In the UK, there was a phone called the G2 Touch which was basically a Hero or some crap. The G2 in the USA, its this forum here, the G2 and Desire Z forums.

I cannot think of a smartphone of this caliber with better battery life than the G2. I have had the vibrant and battery life was not as good

Thought of another question: what vital accessories did the phone come with? I read 8gig san disk class 2 sd. Wall charger, I assume. Car charger? Dock? Ect. Anything else I should know of? I figure I can test everything but wifi if I meet this dude somewhere random.
I am a proud G2 owner, it's a good phone. When my upgrade came I had the option to pick any of the t-mo phones. It was between the vibrant and the G2, but I got it for it's keyboard really... Also the fact that my previous phone was a G1, so it felt like it was the right phone to follow up on. I enjoy it. It does everything I want it to do and then some.
My girlfriend has a vibrant and it's also a fast phone. I've played games and console emulators on it with no problem. Sometimes her phone can be sluggish but she is stock and not rooted so I can't really say that it's the hardware. Only thing I dislike about it is the on-screen keyboard and 3G only data speeds.
If the G2 hadn't existed, I would probably be using a Vibrant. Really though it boils down to what you want in a device and there's a lot of choices out there. I mean why even ask us? Android was created to give you a choice. If you want limited options, go buy an iPhone hahaha.
(Side Note, There's a lot of douche bag's in these G2/Dz forums. Just check out the flame/actual support ratio in Q&A threads)
I'm another that has both. My wife is using my Vibrant right now me opting for either my G2 with Virtuous or my HD2 running Gingerbread. I really like the form factor of the Vibrant and the bigger screen. It's super thin and light and disappears in your pocket. The G2 on the other hand is much much heavier and makes a noticeable bulge in your pocket. Vibrant has a better screen that works better in sunlight. The thing I didn't like about the vibrant was how sluggish it felt in comparison to the G2. Both got me through a day with normal use though I might give a slight edge to the G2 in battery life. I never had a problem with the build quality of the vibrant. IMHO both are good phones. I went with the G2 because I just think it runs better in day to day use. But the weight and form factor have me seriously considering going back to the Vibrant. Honestly I like my HD2 better than either after all this time it's still my favorite piece of phone hardware I've ever used. I just wished it ran Android as good at the G2.

Larger screen (larger phone, too - maybe an issue)
Better sound
More internal storage (with limits - partition doesn't necessarily give more internal app storage since most is partitioned like SD storage)
G2:
Better, more durable build
Both trackpad and speaker grill LED notifications (Vibrant has none)
Functional GPS (huge deal for me)
Both vendor and community supported android development (much better than Vibrant)
Trackpad
Keyboard
Most everything else was the same, but I far prefer my G2 over the Vibrant, with no reservations at all. It's been a stellar performer and the community support is over the top, and the fact that it's Cyanogen's current fave doesn't hurt. I'm also assuming you're rooting both phones, since you're posting here.
I just made the switch last Friday. Vibrant on Bionix V vs G2 on CM6.1.1
The only thing the Vibrant has on the G2 is the screen. I absolutely love the Vibrant's screen.
IMO, you wont see GB on the Galaxy S line for awhile. Why? Galaxy uses RFS natively for its file system. And you can't say that because the Nexus S is on GB, it'll be easy to port to the Galaxy S line.
And lastly, the number one reason I made the switch was because the G2 will see better/faster GB support than the Vibrant. I don't want a phone that is orphaned as fast as the Vibrant has. Shoot, they have the Vibrant 4g now.

Don't forget that there is no CM support for the Vibrant right now.
So I got the Samsung Galaxy S 4G on friday and idk what it is but im iffy on it. I like everything about it no complaints but the G2 has been on my eye since it came out. So im asking you all with your own experience with the G2 if i should go return and get one.
Haven't personally used the galaxy S 4g. Is it the same as the previous one, but with a new radio in it basically? Seems to be the case.
The G2 is a great phone and I'm sure you'll obviously get mostly positive reviews in the G2 section, but its up to you really. At this point in time, unfortunately, the G2 is starting to get a bit dated (sad considering it just came out in September), but then again the GS 4G is gonna be shadowed by the newer Galaxy S II devices coming out soon as well all the same. I would put them in the same group really.
The phones are quite different, considering that the G2 is stock android and a keyboard slider, whereas the Galaxy S 4G has a customized TouchWiz UI and no keyboard. Performance is about the same I'm sure, but its really up to your preferences at that point. The GS 4G has a front facing camera, and a slightly faster processor (out of the box that is, you can overclock the G2 just as much), and other than that, not much. The biggest deal is which form factor you like more.
If you plan on rooting your phone and going that route, and that is something that is important to you, maybe you should look and see how the dev communities of each phone suit you. This also means that the stock software differences between the 2 wont really matter because you'll be putting custom ROMs on it anyways then.
If the Vibrant 4g is the same thing as the Vibrant except for the 4g chip, go for the g2. I came from a Vibrant to a g2, and I wish I had done it earlier. The g2 is faster straight out of the box, no stupid lagfixes needed. I was at first concerned about going from a 1ghz chip to an 800, but the g2 blows the Vibrant away, even without overclocking.

Yea lol so true but I wouldn't mind having a phone with a bigger screen since I peronally like big screens but that's me. As for the G2 its a fast phone, never shows lag even if you have filled the screen with wigets

To me the vibrant was light and simple. Great for calls and watching movies and listening to music. I do a lot more on my G2. Emails, more texting... I just feel more productive with a keyboard.

Word... To be honest, you really don't notice much of a difference between the 2 screen sizes. Watching Inception on 4 inches vs 3.7 is not going to show you what you were missing out on. It's still a tiny screen for movies. The difference with the screen will be the LCD vs SAMOLED. Its nice, but not worth everything else the G2 has, from amazing hardware, software and dev support to the camera flash and slide out keyboard.
Unless you do some serious video chatting, I'd get a G2 and wait to majorly upgrade in 6 months or so when we have a bunch of dual cores on the market.
Trust me, go with the galaxy s, once you root it you will love it. It has a faster processor than the g2, a bigger screen, a super amoled display, and is thinner and more durable. I felt the same way you feel at first about my galaxy s, but now this is the only phone I want. Its AMAZING.

Let me preface this by saying to each his own. I would never discourage someone from trying any other Android phone. That being said.... I have never used a Fascinate but had a Vibrant and LOVED it until I realized how awesome the G2 is. The problem is, the ONLY way to love that phone, is to root it. And even then, a lagfix must be implemented for decent performance. I remember when I shat my pants because the Vibrant could be OC'd to 1.4gzh and show me a Quad of 2300. My G2 can do that if I submerge it in the toilet and run Rhapsody while I OC and run the benchmark (hyperbole alert).
Maybe the GPS is fixed on the SGS4G, but it was awful on the Vibrant for so many people. It's durability is easily questionable, as it feels like it is made of dollar store parts. It only has a faster processor out of the box. The G2 is capable of much, MUCH more.
Bottom line, IMO, if one is better than the other, the differences come down to user preference and not general real world experience. Team Whiskey makes some AMAZING ROMs for the Vibrant, but CM is barely limping along with bug after bug. And I don't even know for sure that Vibrant ROMs can be run on the SGS4G, or how complicated that particular Port is.
Thanks for the input guys I have 1 week to decide what to do. I was wondering what the Quad for the G2 is just off the bat because mine is only about 975.
i have used a few phones beforee settling on my g2. one of htem was the samsung captivate which is basically the galaxy s 4g in a different body and without the 4g. i can tell you that the g2 is way better. samsung makes th galaxy s phones really crappy(all plastic) and probably wont ever give the new galaxy s an update that all of the other galaxy s users are still waiting for(2.2!).
I have had stock Quad scored range from 1500 - 2000, rooted and OC'd I can get in the 3000's
if i were you then i would exchange them, but i cant work without a physical keyboard
I have a regular Vibrant and a G2 (one is a work phone). Both rooted on custom ROMs. G2 is on CM7 while Vibrant is still on Froyo.
If they could have put the Vibrant screen on the G2, it would be the best phone on the market. I'm not saying just because of the keyboard, but the G2 is a more solid phone over all. It's faster (albeit, overclocked) over all.
To each his own though. Having CM7 is worth it for me.
IMO G2/Desire Z is one of the best phones out there and is worth the money. I have been using it since december, been back and forth between nexus one, desire, desire z and i am finally picking up my dz back. not letting it go this time... love this phone... it really rocks...
I'm currently a captivate user on att contract, and I am thinking about jumping over to a DZ... but I am having trouble justifying paying 500$-ish for a new unlocked phone that people are starting to call "dated."
However, I made it a point to myself that I will NEVER buy a smartphone without a physical qwerty ever again. Swype was cool for a few months, but it's impossible to be productive with an entirely touch screen phone... and to me that's just a contradiction to the "smart" in smartphone itself
Could always wait alittle longer for the "next-gen" dual core phones set to be released later this year
no i dont recommend this phone..if u rly rly need a keyboard phone then u can get it otherwise i recommend nexus S
