[Q]Desire HD App and Game directories? - Desire HD General

Hello,
Someone kindly help me to understand the installation directories for the Apps and Games on Android's internal and external storage please ..
i have the DHD rooted and S-off ..
i understand how apk can be installed from Market and through 3rd party application and so on .. but certain games won't work .. due to missing data files..
so i am wondering how the installation directories work?
for app and game's main program .. it's installed to:
/data/app/"...app names..."/ ---> main program file
/data/data/"...app names..."/ ----> data files
is this correct?
for the games, where does the data files reside?
under /data/data/" xx "
or under /sdcard/android/data/" xx " ? if we want to save the internal memory?
for example, a game which is like 1xxMB large .. but i couldn't find out where the large data file was installed to .. after performing the move2SD .. it seems to me only the main app program "like 2, or 3 mb" is moved to sdcard only ...

You don't ever need to move apps to the SD card on the DHD. I don't understand why you would be asking this, unless it was for piracy.
If you want to backup data/games/apps use Titanium backup, if you want to force apps to the SD card (which is totally unnecessary on the DHD) you will have to root install clockwork recovery and install an APP2SD ROM, i.e. CM 6.1 and force apps to the SD card.

thanks for the reply.
I just want to know where they save all the files .. so i can save the internal memory .. though it's 1.5gb big ..
i have used the titanium ..and it has a feature to move app to SD .. is that the same function you mentioned about? or i need to flash another rom for it.. hmm ..
and when i uninstall the files .. i want to make sure they are clean .. not leaving some files here and there ^^
i have tested couple games now .. and able to see they indeed download the big data files to SD .. ^^ .. but i see their files everywhere .. like under data/data // system/app , mnt/sdcard/ and etc ..
thanks ~~

After flashing new ROM, can't see apps installed on Storage Card

After flashing a new ROM, the softwares and games installed on Storage Card should run properly?
The memory used in storage card is same as before flashing the ROM. But, after flashing, in the Apps and Games folder there are only those which are pre-installed in the ROM and nothing from the Storage Card.
Do I need to install those apps n games again to the Storage Card?
Do we need to do this every time after flashing?
THanks

yes...
its the same like your computer...you install a program on D:\ drive and reinstall OS on the C:\ does the program work anymore?.....no right...its the same way here in wm as well...
EDIT : May be you can use any backup program to keep your softwares intact...like spb backup ...

[Q] Application installation location

Hi everyone
I just managed to boot android onto my HD2 and I'm loving it!
Question though: when i install applications from the android market, where do they get stored/installed? Is it in the SD card? Or on the flash memory of the phone... I couldn't seem to find a directory on my sd card that had all the applications I downloaded...
Thanks in advance!
they will get stored in the data file unless it needs some external access and then it will create a folder on the sd card
oh, do you mean that 1GB data.img file?
so it basically does just stay on the SD card then right?
i installed quite a bit of applications, but the data.img file still seems to stay at the same size..?
Yes, exactly. everything will be stored in the 1GB data.img. Unless you download additional stuffs through or within the application, then the application will create a new folder to store them.
To conclude, everything will be stored in your SD card.
great! thanks!
Installing apps
Since the topic is about installation of apps, i'd just like to ask a question about installing apps. I'm new to Android on hd2 and was wondering if they are cab files to install android apps like in WM. And also if there is, how do u install the apps as we can;'t access file explorer in android
Thanks

Need help !?

Good day ,
recently I install android on my phone HTC HD2
and I have problem , when I install " IGO " which is Navigation program already go to phone memory and cant move it to SD card
always say to me it's phone only
I use most of the app's which let u move to SD but without any benefit
any body can help me !?
؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟
Titanium Backup has a batch job to move all apps to the SD. Just deselect all apps and select the one you want to move. It's never failed me.
But, some apps simply can't be moved to the SD card. Well, to be more clear, if you manage to move it then it may not work any more and you need to move it back to the phone.

he meant to use Root Explorer app instead ASTRO, it is better and you will be able to access to everything plus change permissions , edit system files and so and so.
Now in my opinion app2sd and link2sd have something is common and that is that both of them keep a part of each app you send to sdcard, the only different i see between both to my like is that with link2sd you can use widgets while with app2sd once you send apps to sdcard you will not be able to use their widgets.
BUT that is for me old stuffs as now a brand new solution has been released and im talking about data2system method.
Check development threads there are 2 method:
The first one created by Anton_ch and posted by me here in XDA
The second one created by Mu4ik and posted by fishears
Read about each one so you decide for one and try it, that is my suggestion.

Tips: Increasing internal memory capacity by 50%, managing effectively

Requirements: You're play is rooted and ext2 partition is available on youre sd card.
1. Install Link2sd v2.0.2 from market.
The updated version allows you to convert system application to user apps. Thus, pre-install games can now be move to be user apps.
2. convert pre-install apps to be user apps, and create link to the application.
you will notice somehow an increase in the available internal memory.
I hope, I help somehow..
I apologize if others can't follow my information above. I included here the more detailed instructions for using link2sd, please see link :-D

Root Explorer can do the same thing too. I used it to get rid of the God awful games preinstalled on my phone

How would I know if the ext2 partition is available on my SD card?

Use root explorer and there should be a folder sd-ext check in there

I never worry about space on mine. If you are rooted, you can use DroidSail Super App2SD. Its free and it works perfectly. I have transferred every single game to SD and they all work perfectly (every game that came on the phone, every game I have ever downloaded). I am consistently at about 250MB free.

Thanks for telling me about that, there is no hassle with partitioning sd card now
Cool, i´ll try it. More internal memory!
I like it because if something did not work (I have not encountered a game or app that has not when moved) the option exists to move it BACK. It is very similar to an app I used to use on the Tapwave Zodiac back in the Palm days. One of the main reasons to have root on the Play is this app!

yap!
i already done that.
system apk to user apk, and vice versa.
then link to SD
to those who want to partition their sd card to ext2 partition, simply download mini tool partition on youre pc, create partition (not more 1gb), it should be primary type and ext2.
i hope it helps
You can actually go up to ext4 without problem on this phone. Oh, and if you don't want to download a program to partition your sd card, and are confident in your adb abilities, look here.
OK...I think I just bricked my XPlay? When I tried to convert the Android Framework (I think that's what it's called) from system app to user app, my phone suddenly restarted, and is constantly restarting without getting into the UI at all... any idea what has happened here and how it can be fixed?

The Android framework is like system32 for windows. Basically, don't mess with it. You're not bricked. Use FlashTool to reflash the .ftf file for your phone version.

Thanks for letting me know. Will I loose all my info such as SMS, contacts, etc.? And where can I find info on how to reflash and get the correct .ftf for the phone?
Here is the FlashTool thread, and pretty much just search the Development subforum to find the thread that specifically deals with your phone model, whether it's x, i, at, or whatever else there is.
Flashing that .ftf will put you back to stock, so hope that you had your contacts backed up with your Google account. And SMS will be gone, as well as everything else that was personal.
Thanks a lot...it's unfortunate if I can't get my info back...
nvm
Sounds like you're not allowed to move that one.

Thanks for the info...I got my phone working again... the firmware I flashed is much better than the previous that was installed. Everything runs faster, and PSX games run smoother and faster...
