Wrong Carrier Name - Trophy General

Hi,
I'm using HTC 7 Trophy in Slovakia. I tried Orange and T-Mobile SIM and both works fine, but I get wrong carrier name:
Orange is shown as T-Mobile CZ,
T-Mobile is shown as Eurotel - CZ,
as long as I search networks I see O2 as "23106"
Is there any way to fix this? The phone was bought in Austria A1 Shop.
Thanks for answers.

same here in germany. my carrier said that microsoft currently did not open the way for carriers to send konfiguration data through sms/mms to change settings.
thats way windows phone 7 devices chooses the carrier its "having" in their list ...

hmmm, hope that this "bug" has nothing to do with roaming charges, interconnection payments etc.

It's just the name of the mobile network. There is a tiny database on your phone('s radio ROM, I presume) looking up the correct name for your network based on the network ID(23106). Flashing your phone to (a more) recent version should resolve this (in the future) since it updates this database on your phone.
Check out http://numberportabilitylookup.com/networks to retreive a (complete) list of networks.

I have locale to Czech (on HTC 7 Trophy) and carrier is "Vodafone CZyyyy", where is the problem and why? Fix it an update? In English locale is OK, "Vodafone CZ"...

same problem here. Vodafone CZyyyy. #facepalm

O2 branded, Virgin PAYG sim, phone thinks its on T-Mobile?

Have had my wizard for a couple of weeks now, when I bought it, it had the O2 software running on it, its branded externally as an O2. I upgraded the ROM last night but i have noticed that the phone (as before) still thinks it is using the T-mobile network e.g. when i tap on the signal strength indicator or a message comes through, it indicates the t-mobile network. I can receive and make calls as well as text messages and voicemail on the virgin network no problem. After doing the rom update last night i indicated that i was on the Virgin network when prompted when the device was initialising.
So how do i get rid of the fact that my wizard thinks its using the t-mobile network when its actually using the Virgin network. The phone is branded externally as O2? How on earth did this t-mobile identity survive the ROM update. Note i applied the I-mate ROM.
During the ROM update i left the sd card containing the previous ROM image (O2), a backup in case things went wrong, in the device. I noticed that a little after i ran the imate rom update from my host pc a message appeared on my imate mentioning something about the fact that there was an SD card containing a rom image and if i wanted to use this. It was very late and by the time it registed with me what i was looking at the message timed out and the rom update continued. Could this explain the reocurrence of the t-mobile wording. When i reset the device the imate splash is what i see.
Currently:
ROM version 2.16.9.1 WWE
ROM date 2/6/06 (6/2/06 here in the UK)
Radio version 02.07.10
Protocol version 413.1.03
ExtROM version 2.16.9.101
Thanks for any help
Fergus
Virgin is a virtual mobile operator and uses T-mobile's network. Its common for T-Mobile to show up as the carrier on many mobile phones.
Roaming indication after upgrade
Hi have the same problem.
I have a T-mobile (US) phone; I upgraded the ROM (Qtek test ROM) and since then, the phone shows that I am roaming into Cingular network.
In my area (San Francisco) - Cingular is the actual network operator; T-mobile uses Cingular's infrastructure as part of a deal made long time ago.
So, the ROM is correct but I wish there was a way to disable the ugly triangle (showing that I'm roaming) or alternatively - let the phone know that I'm parked in a "home-network".
Ah thank you for clearing that up. By the way is it true that virgin has been bought by NTL, someone mentioned this today. Not sure who is worse NTL or Virgin UK.
Do you know where i can get the settings for MMS and GPRS, have not checked if they have been set up properly.
Many Thanks
Fergus

it's true...
The operator logo in the dialer does not automatically change when you switch networks / sim cards.
It depends on the image file 'carrierlogo.gif' in the Windows folder.
I have an unlocked T-Mobile MDA Vario with an Orange sim card - this showed as T-Mobile until I updated the carrierlogo.gif file!
If you want to view the network you are currently connected to, go to Start | Settings | Phone | Network.

Have you tried another QTek ROM? Otherwise, it's a possible SIM-related issue. The SIM hasn't received an OTA (Over the Air) update telling it that it is connected to T-Mobile's local switch. Furthermore, you shouldn't be on the shared network anymore since the old GSM 1900 shared network was sold to T-Mobile in CA and NV as part of the Cingular/AT&T merger. I would think that T-Mobile has updated that GSM 1900-only network to broadcast only their MNC (Network Code) so any T-Mobile SIMs registered on the network know that it is a native network.

blocked phone

i have recently bought an xda exec that is blocked to uk networks.
will a three network sim work in it?,has anyone tried?
If it's blocked to UK networks, it's ALL UK networks sorry...
When you say "blocked" do you mean that it is IMEI blacklisted or that there is a network lock on the phone that stops you using UK SIMs?
If it is IMEI blocked you're stuck. I haven't read of an IMEI change solution for the Universal yet, but that is illegal anyway (prison sentence illegal, not just a smack on the wrist).
If your phone is SIMlocked you can use the unlocking tool on Buzz's site to disable all locks.
the phone is unlocked, but says no sevice,if i put in a virgin sim it has a signal but you cant make calls.
Thats good then,, its unlocked but Virgin doesnt have settings for the Universal yet so your a little stuck other then that try flashing it with Tmobiles ROM that may help as Virgin is a sub group of Tmobile

please don't post answers like this when you don't know what you're saying to be 100% true.
a) ROMs don't affect gsm service - it's all contained in the SIM (that's what SIMs are specifically for). every rom of a particular version of wm has the same phone program - just different skins.
b) gsm communication is standard across all handsets - there are no "settings for universal" other than for MMS and a few other things (which are not the subject here)
c) virgin rent bandwidth from a number of companies including t-mobile (i.e. they are a virtual provider)

Help needed: Roaming goes off in some countries

Hi everibody!
Sorry to ask (I did research but haven't found any related post)
I do have a Vodafone Sapain's account, roaming activated. It usually works OK, but I've found that while travelling in some countries (Uruguay, South Africa) I do get the networks names, but my Trinity fails to connect.
I tracked the problem to a certain combination of SIM cards and my Trinity, but neither my providers nor HTC seems aware of the problem.
BTW, I got my Trinity to work with some other SIM cards, both from Vodafone an a third provider, but some others failed. The same applies, I got mi current SIM to work in a friend's phone while roaming in the same country.
Of course, Vodafone says there is nothing wrong with my card nor the network in these countries.
So I guess there is some incompatability between certain SIMs and the P3600 SW (radio ROM maybe?)
Any help?
Regards.
EXACTLY the same problem
I got exactly the same problem - Trinity + Dopod WM5 ROM + Orange FR.
When in Greece, I do "select networks manually", I get Vodafone, Tim, COSMOTE - it could connect only on COSMOTE. With the same SIM card using an ancient Nokia, I could connect to Vodafone with no problems whatsoever. Sometimes I feel like new technology creates more problems rather than solving them.
Please, could someone help, it was a very frustrating experience.

I never got it fully right, but since I've changed to Movistar the problem seem solved.
I'm almost sure that the problem lies in the "hidden sw" the telcos are putting into the SIMs, but they will never admit......
I use Vodafone Romania as home network and I have travelled in over 25 countries in and outside Europe, with no problems at all.
You might want to check on your Radio and try another version, see if that helps.
Sometimes it helps to manually select operator (there is the option to "Set networks"), and check list of operators to see if the one you want to use is on the allow list.

I do travel every year about as many countries as you, usually with more than one phone and more than one SIM, and I can garantee that operators behave differently, even different SIM types from same operator behave different.
Not an easy answer to a complex problem.

New Connection Setup with SIMYO ?

Hello friends...
I am from SPAIN, and I just switched mobile company from good-old VODAFONE, which for some reason have been losing coverage where I live, and now I am on this new company called "SIMYO" who´s service is simply great, with awesome coverage troughout Spain (uses Orange Antennas and repeaters) and probably the best tarifs also in Spain (we are the MOST EXPENSIVE mobile-tarifs European country... ).
Here is my request.... Do you guys know if we will be able to get a "connection manager" tool so that my HD will not show "roaming" all the time, as it does not detect SIMYO as a local carrier?.... I always get the "roaming icon" when calling, and obiously if I try "connection wizard" I don´t have the option to chose SIMYO, as I can only chose Telefonica, Orange, Vodafone, even Yoigo, Carrefour Movil, Bankinter Movil, Euskaltel, etc..... but no SIMYO, and I had to enter Internet parameters and MMS setting manualy...
Hope anyone can gimme a hand over here .
Thanks folks!
MOD EDIT
Move to general discussion forum as not relevent to ROM development forum
Anyone?.... I am surprised that noone is having the same problem, as I think SIMYO is also existing in other countries...

Can not use Bell Canada SIM on my Touch2 but almost any other SIM works fine.

I am new to htc world. I bought a Touch2 6 months back in Netherlands and it was on Telfort (a local network provider) on Dutch language. Then I moved to Canada and changed the ROM with the help of hardspl to English. But I can not use my new Bell Canada SIM card in this phone. It does not catch any signal. But when I checked through settings - connections - connection setup, then I see under country Canada there are a list of service provider's name listed but no Bell there. I guess this does not mean SIM lock or so. How can I add Bell in that list and make my bell sim work in my touch2 ?
Thanks in advance for any kind of clue !

It won't work at all no matter what you try... the phone doesn't have UMTS 850/1900, and Bell doesn't have GSM. Sorry!
It'll work on Rogers & Fido in 2G/EDGE mode, that's all you'll get in Canada.
what the mate means is that bell uses CDMA and the Touch2 is a GSM mobile phone so you can't use it with bell.

No, that isn't what I mean. Bell's HSPA network, launched about 8 months ago (the one which uses SIM cards) is UMTS-only. The Touch2 does not support Bell's UMTS frequencies. Therefore it sees nothing when a Bell SIM is inserted.
