I didnt want to root my phone HTC WILDFIRE because I am a little noob at these things a I thought I would totally destroy my phone.
But I found out that it is not so hard to root it as I thought, so today I succesfully rooted my phone. Than I wanted to overclock my procesor from 528 Mhz to I think 768 by downloading new kernel etc... Everything went good. I succesfully installed(or what, I said I am a little noob) that new kernel and was happy that my Wildfire will be faster.
But now I can see that my phone is lagging more, sometimes it freezes what i couldnt see before when It had original kernel.
HOW IS IT POSSIBLE?
Pls help
Do you have SetCPU installed? Then turn it a bit down, till 690~710 Mhz
Maxing it totally out can make your phone unstable. Think about it like a car, when it has 100 hp's and you tune it to 150 hp's things might break.
From stock 528 to 768 isn't a walk in the park, it's +45%
Yes I have setCPU and when I set my procesor to about 710 Mhz it lags and freezes. When I set it to about 580 it is doing the same. The only one solution of this I think is to reinstal the kernel.
Now I have 2.6.32.21-HCDRJacob-ga91 e 73b- [email protected] 1.
That is the full name of it. And in setcpu info it shows me before the version ( 2.6.32.21-HCDRJacob-ga91 e 73b- [email protected] 1) Linux versio... Maybe thats the problem???
And I have to find some solution as fast as possible because sometimes when somebody calls me I cant answer because of a biiiig lag. And then I cant do anything.
Thx for help
What id the minimum speed set to? I wouldn't go below 160. And my max is 672mhz.
Are you running different profiles or just the main profile in setCPU? Mine used to lag when i had a few profiles running but i have removed them all and only using the main profile and the lag has now gone.
when i went to wildpuzzle i found whatever speed i set my processor through set cpu it froze about 4-5 times a day. after flashing the kernel to remove overclocking it has not frozen in a week. everything really responsive, checking auto detect speeds with set cpu shows max 528mhz min450mhz
I tried many options and at last its OK. firstly I had a big difference between max and min of my procesor at setCPU, so I tried to set it to min about 630 and max about 700.
Now it is OK I dont know how, but I am happy the ****y problem is somehow solved and everytjing now goes very smoothly, thx u all

You are prob going to be slammed with 'use the search feature', but, I'm bored as hell at work, so I thought I'd help.
You will find many people use different speeds, and different programs. The two I've used are batterystatus and Omap. Personally, I like batterystatus, and I've safely clocked mine to 299mhz.
BatteryStatus? Isn't that way old?
I highly recommend HomeScreen Plus Plus (which is the new version of Battery Status) just google it and you'll find it and download the Advanced verson not the Basic one.
And I safely overclock it to 299 with no problems. I went to 312 once but every so often the phone would rest itself.
HS++ is also good cause it auto underclocks and auto overclocks your device so when your phone is sleeping it saves battery .

+1000000 this is awesome man! thanks
i want to thank everyone that had responded i did a little research and i was confused. ya see i am using batterystatus .04 and if i go above 260 my phone freezes and to be quite frank i had 2 wizards that i believe died from overclocking. they both one day randomly after a reset went to the bootloader screen and stayed. i had tried a hard reset and flashing the unit with no luck personally i dont have a clue what happened and with this one being my only source of 'net access i cannot mess it over once again thank everyone whom responded

Hmm wow I'm sorry for your Wizard but the Wings can go up to 299mhz without dying and the good thing about HS++ is that if you enable CPU Scaler and set the overclock to say... like 400 and your phone freezes, just plug in your charger and reset your phone. The CPU Scaler is disabled as long as you have a power cord plugged in your phone (your phone stays on it's native speed) so you can just go back into the CPU Scaler overclock settings and lower it and try again ^_^!!
So just use the CPU Scaler to find the highest overclock speed but never just set the overclock speed in the normal overclock menu. Use the CPU Scaler auto overclock option and you won't need to hard reset your phone.
thanks for the advice. so it is possible to kill a unit with overclocking i just wanted to be sure, cause when i asked in the wizard forms if i am not mistaken no one answered me. i had also asked hct via a number provided to me by tmobile and they said the stock "i dunno we will have to look at the unit and that will be $180" towhich i responded f**k!! that i can get a new unit for under 130 off of ebay then got a wing....

So no matter what kernel I use, when ever i use SetCpu (or overclock widget) to underclock my phone when the screen is off it causes the phone to freeze and I have to pull the battery out. I set it so that it goes down to 200mhz, tried 400mhz and experienced the same problem. Any ideas? Solutions?

I'm running Baked Snack 1.1, doesn't matter what rom or kernel I use though, it still happens.
It doesn't matter if I use overclock widget or SetCpu, if I were to set it so that my phone underclocks to 200mhz or 400mhz while the screen is off it freezes and I have to pull the battery.
Same here im running stock and i've tried setcpu and no matter what i hav to pull the battery out everytime. So i uninstalled it.

I had the same problem set the cpu with min of 400 and max off 800 should fix your problem

It means that there is not enough voltage run that frequency on your phone. Some times these kernel developers undervolt the phone which all phone don't support at all. Try some other kernel like the xtreme kernel. That kernel actually work for me and I can underclock my phone without freezing.

wow.. i just posted something like this i had set cpu installed since i rooted my phone last week. today i was playing with the settings because my music was stuttering.. i thought it might be a underclockign problem so i changed the profile to "ondemand" it made the stuttering better and everything seemed fine. about 12 hours later i got home and was playing with the phone. i updated 3 programs in market and all of a sudden my phone would go to sleep and not wake up. had to do a battery pull. i uninstalled the 3 programs i updated but the problem kept going. just uninstalled setcpu. hopefully it resolves everything

The use of profiles is not recommended on Galaxy S phones. The developer of SetCPU actually does not recommend using any other governor than conservative, even though we've been able to make Interactive work on some kernels.
I'm running Baked Snack 1.3 and found it to be stable at 1.2ghz using OC Widget. With screen on I have it set to min 400 and max 1200. With screen off it's set to min 400 max 600.
I too am having this problem. No mater what rom or kernal I use. It seems as if Setcpu and Overclock widget sometimes cant read the frequencies and let the phone underclock to 19.2Mhz which is probably like trying to wake the dead!
I wonder if it has anything to do with the new Superuser.apk? it always seems like setcpu is trying to get permissions. Maybe, I dont really know. Can one of you really smart people look into this?
In the meantime the only profile that I have set is screen off Max 800 Min 400, maybe that will work?
same issues here. i'm running with my screen off at min 100 and a max of 800. If i change my max to anything lower, my phone won't wake up. I'm running the latest VIPERrom. I'm hearing some mixed feedback about this app so i would like hear your feedback.
What i've gathered over the last several months, is that SetCPU profiles are buggy with our phone. Its recommended not to use profiles.
I'm fairly certain that SetCPU should not be used without a custom kernel that allows for over/under clocking. If you're on the latest ViperROM then you are using a kernel that we have no source code for, therefore it doesn't support over/under clocking; rendering SetCPU useless and prone to cause problems.

If you have it set to under 200 with the screen off it won't wake up after a while.
I've had the same problem on all builds and ROMs that I've used. The only constant through all the different setups I've used were Advanced Task Killer and SetCPU. I stopped using ATK (with auto-kill on screen off, I use EStaskmanager for manual killing when phone is on) and the problem seems to be mostly fixed. It does still happen once in a blue moon though, say once every day or two.
Phoenix Kernel/Syndicate ROM 2.1

Screen off: 100min/200max

Hi I`ve got SetCPU installed and flashed jacobs 0130 kernal so I can overclock my Wildfire.
Now I`ve got a small issue, I`ve set it at 710 max and 556 min settings and it seems to be running fine, but when the battery starts getting a bit low it causes it to freeze and have problems running some apps. I know its personal choice for how much it is overclocked but are there any recommended speeds for min and max settings to get it running well or is it just a question of experimenting until I get it to my liking?
I have searched the forums and everyone seem to have different preferences.
Thanks again Nexus04
I got random freezes using SetCPU too. I uninstalled and used OverclockWidget instead, havent had a single freeze since
Thanks I`ll have a look at that
why do you have your minimum setting overclocked? the slowest your phone can go even with screen off is 556, no wonder phone chucking a hissy fit
i'm running 691 max 245 min set on performance, not one freeze.
running wildpuzzle v.08
Thanks ephbee, thats made that clear for me, I was having a "DOH" moment there
Hi guys,
i tried CM7 but it was really laggy at my device, a lot of you guys said it is a very fast release !? so how can i get it working smooth ? when i wanted to get into the cpu settings i had a force close every time, jit was enabled..
do i have to get setcpu ? when yes where? which frequencies run smooth and stable ?
thanks in advance

Wipe EVERYTING, install CM7 then install HCDR.Kernal 4.1 (4.2 doesn't work as well) then use another overclock program, not setcpu, it doesn't work well with CM7. Hope that helps you!
* First, try flashing Kernel v4.1. CM7 comes with Kernel 4.2 by default, and, because it is clocked at 768 max, it leads to a lot of stability problems for everyone. Look for the HCDR.Kernel Topic in Wildfire Android Development Zone
* After that, you can install SetCPU. The SetCPU Dev has a thread here on XDA where he has posted the APK of SetCPU for download. Just enter SetCPU in the search bar and you should be able to find the thread with no issues. Here, you can set the max (Upto 710 recommended) and min (upto 245 recommended)
This should solve your lag and stability issues. If it still doesn;t, two more apps which can cause lag are (Note: This affects only a small %age of members with CM7)
* SetCPU (Alternative: OverclockWidget)
* ADW.Launcher (Alternative: Any other Launcher)
Oh, and CPU Settings FC's for everyone, from the time it was implemented. Looks like it is not ready yet.
Good Luck
hey 3xeno, thanks for your tipps!
with kernel 4.1 + setcpu + adw.launcher ex it finally works good!
the only thing thats a little strange is that i couldnt use my overclock setup from the openfire rom i had before, i have your suggested settings + screen of profile (352 max 245 min)+ tmep > 46° profile (352 max 245min), with openfire it was possible to have it at 691 mhz max and 245mhz min for normal mode, now i had to put it on 614 max 245min to not get the battery too warm, but anything else works great

That is rather weird, because, many are keeping it at 710 MHz Max and having no issues. What is your battery temperature when you keep it at 691? (And at idle. It is normal for the phone to get warm when you continuously run a heavy app like a game on it, also, I am sure you know this, but dont measure during charging, it does get pretty warm then )
hmm i played around with the phone a little and then put it in my pants pocket, after wa while when i put it back out it has restarted i guess and i was very warm at the back...hmm ill test it a little perhaps it was a one time thing
I have rooted abdroid 2.3.4 with cyanogen 7 and in the settings there is one that i can change the maximum value to cpu...Now is at 998....what value above that is the safest to choose with out the phone have any problem???
depends which rom it is
some can go up to 1.5 and some cant
Can also depend on the phone, I have 2 hd2s, one chuggs along nicely at 1075mhz, the other gives random slowdowns / hangs (4-5 a week, not lots but enough to be a pain) at any setting above 921mhz. Same rom, same installed apps, same data.
Well here are the Phone Info

The best thing to do is scale up gradually, try each step above 998. OC then try it for 24hours, then try a step up and try it for 24 hours and so on. Do not check set at boot though just in case you pick a speed that causes problems.
What can go wrong???How do i see that it cant support a number??We are talking about maximum price and not all the time...???Someone that tried and have it overclocked????
What can go wrong???
It coukd stop booting and require a hard reset/backup restore.
How do i see that it cant support a number??
It will start to give force closes, hang, reboot, feel sluggish..

Do a cwm backup and just try it, worst case scenario is it doesn't boot and you have to restore.

I would guess that the majority of users are overclocked. I, for example, am running my phone smoothly at 1.2 GHz without problems, but to be honest I scarcely notice the difference with overclocking. Dorimanx's kernel with 1.61 GHz overclock didn't really perform any better than Tytung r14 at 1.2 GHz.
Just do as the others said and try it out whilst making sure to uncheck 'set on boot', but I think any speed should really be fine.
I don't know what the general opinion is on this (some devs say it isn't a good app) but use setCPU in order to create profiles if you want, thus being able to reduce your standby battery drain and stuff like that
In the quandra the info of the phone whrites that the cpu is up to 1190mhz and know is at 998.Is this true? Can it go that much?
If so we can put it at 1113 that its safe?
I know that i ask again and again but i dont want the phone to lose or damage
Youre best bet would be to download setCPU and try different clock speeds . the thing about setCPU though is it has a stress test . So after you set a speed . you can run the stress test to test if its too high a value or if you are safe to run at that speed . just dont tick the box that says "apply at boot"
My phone (currently Dorimanx ROM) is stable at 1536MHz. On Cyanogen it was similar. On 1612 it had freezen for a few times while watching a flash video on youtube. Set it to 1,4GHz, and it should work fine. Phone will not damage, data too. Just as they written above, do not click apply at boot.
And make stress test for more than 10 mins, because I have done it for 10 mins, and as I written, it had freezed during YT watching.
The topest that it has is 1190..that is the last option !!!I put it at 1113 for one day know and i made a profile to go 573 when i close the screen.
Tomorow i try the next option antil 1190 ...and we will see
Tytung r10? Why not upgrade to another Kernel?
I think that's the core issue. Dorimanx kernels i.e. can be clocked solid to 1.2ghz
Oh, I've completly forgotten. I have used Dorimanx kernel with Cyanogen. But it doesn't let you reinstall rom from settings (Factory reset). You need to reinstall rom from zip or restore backup in CWM. On 1190 it will work stable for ever
