Need ROM for galaxy Tab US with phone calls and 3g - Galaxy Tab General

Hi..I have t-mobile galaxy tab US model and I am looking to download a ROM which has ability to make phone calls as well as the 3g speed...can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Do some research...there isn't one..not with 3g speed

Don't we all lol

As far as I know this is as much a carrier issue as it is a ROM issue. I was able to hack together a ROM that -emulated- full phone functionality with Skype (in terms of voice dial, etc), but at this point you'll have to pick one or the other (3G or Phone)

bump me too

smh...close this thread, and tell these people to search. read up or down, there are already established threads trying to make this happen

DO SOME RESEARCH...
Jesus people. seriously. all of your questions bout BT/skype....phone rom w/3g have been answered a crap load of times.
admins...why aren't you handing out temp bans for people who obviously don't read the forum rules?

Why are there all these questions in the development sub forum. Admins need to clean this up

Unlocking HTC HD2 and Using it on AT&T

I realize this is a TMO forum but since the HD2 is a TMO phone, I'm hoping someone has already done this.
I've been with TMO since April and while I'm generally happy with lesser dropped calls than AT&T, TMO's 3G service is very sporadic and does not seem to be as prolific in its availability as AT&T's.
Has anyone successfully used an unlocked HD2 on AT&T?
I would appreciate any information and suggestions on this, especially which ROM(s) to use to de-brand it and any tips/tweaks that will allow the HD2 to fully function on AT&T, including Data and Carrier/Frequency settings.
I don't plan on using the AT&T 2GB plans, just their "Unlimited" package for "dumb phones". Tethering is definitely needed.
ANY help in this will be greatly appreciated. If you don't feel like posting, you can PM me with the details.
Thanks
im guessing you didnt read much before you posted. yes tons of people use the tmous on at&t, yes it works, no you wont get 3G.

Actually I did, and after wading through a seemingly endless barrage of "chatty" mostly unfocused and unrelated posts, I decided to cut to the chase and post my own thread with the hope that someone with SUBSTANTIVE answers would respond.
You see, a common theme in most forums (this one included) is that direct and specific answers are seldom posted. Instead, there is the obvious posts from those that just like to post and see their post published for the world to see and appreciate.
Personally, I find posts like "I have that same problem..." or "why don't you like TMO..." or even "have you read the other posts..." adds very little to the discussion and only serves to inflate the thread to a multi-page diatribe that does little to serve or answer the original question.
I really don't care to hear about the mother-in-law that has the same issue, or the poor guy with a bricked phone, posted in the same thread as a specific and succinct request for assistance.
Please don't be offended but if you feel like flaming me on this then I respectfully request that you do so in a specific flaming thread and not this one. I would really appreciate responses from those willing and wanting to answer my question, sans lectures and unrelated tripe.
Thanks in advance for understanding.
heh, fair enough.
direct answer, yes, it will work once you network unlock it, no you won't get 3g or hsdpa, and no amount of radio or rom flashing will be able to enable 3g, its a hardware limitation.
hd2 att 3g
The only way to get 3g on this phone HD2 on the AT&T network is to buy the Australian version Telestra T9193, they go for between 500-700 on eBay.
Thanks for the straightforward answer Now that the question's been answered I would ask the mod to please close the thread to keep it small and easy for others to see the answer as posted above and from having to endure twenty pages of nonsense like in other threads. I would never have posted this thread had I found the above answer succinctly posted sans tripe in other threads.
Again, thanks for the simple and direct response.
Now I can go try and justify selling this TMO HD2 and fork out more $$$ for a Telstra unit.

[Q] Poor Wifi Range?

So, I posted a thread asking about the Wifi issues I have been experiencing, hoping someone had some insight. Apparently a sincere question that hasn't been addressed in previous threads is unfit however, as pulser_g2 sent me a nice message letting me know he trashed my thread.
So I will ask again.
I noticed with my N1 that I could pick up my Wifi signal at a distance of about 95 feet from the unit with a stable connection. With my fascinate, I am only able to stray about 35 feet before it drops and jumps to 3G.
I was kind of hoping that someone might have some insight as to whether or not this is a PURELY hardware related issue. I was hoping that there might be some tweaking that could help me out.
If someone could maybe please chime in before this somehow offensive inquiry is canned, I would appreciate it. I respect the knowledge base here, and would hate to have to leave for other forums to ask what I feel are legitimate questions.
And yeah, I'm a little annoyed that the question was canned, when there's a veritable plethora of completely useless posts floating around here.

I also have poor wifi reception on my Fascinate compared to my Incredible. I am interested if there is a hardware problem or if its a software fix. Seems a new baseband may fix this... I hope.

It fits best. We do need a Q&A section. My logic however had to do with the issue. If it's hardware, fine. If it's possible to improve via hack or tweak, that qualifies as a development issue. If it's a radio issue, then perhaps a fix will come, but again, development issue.

All due respect, I don't ask many questions. I usually take the necessary time to read up and search. This question has not been asked, or I wouldn't have raised it. I am neither new here, or ignorant of the rules. Most of my posts are relevant and some even attempt to be helpful.
Statement of point: this post asks a question, and reply not addressing the question is as useless and improperly placed as this inquiry is being accused of.
Now could someone who understands the question, and has the knowledge to address it take a moment to enlighten me? It would be appreciated.

The point that everyone is making here is that the Development sub-forum is for Development only, not for troubleshooting, questions or feature requests. You know it's funny that you of all people should complain about the plethora of useless posts around here when you yourself contribute to the mess.
You don't post in the appropriate sections and I'm quite sure that you remember the useless and misleading thread "iOS port for 2.1 running on my Fascinate! " that you created a while ago. That was blatantly and outrightly spamming the boards, but I let it pass.
Regarding your comment about the XDA Moderators; talking trash about the admin staff is tantamount to flaming and as such you have been issued an infraction. If you have a problem or an issue, contact any of the moderators via PM and we will discuss your issues in a more civilized fashion.
I would advice you to use better judgement going forward.

Wifi sucks
I agree on QnA my wifi signal and speed is horrible on this device. I would like to see some kind of fix for this my 3g at home is crappy.
given the power output(router and phone), antenna design on both the router as well as in the phone, and the nature of the freq used for WiFi it is clear that you had a mutant N1 and should not expect the same performance from any other phone. NO im not being a smartass just being realistic. as a amateur radio operator i deal with radio freq's on an almost daily basis and give the nature of the freq's used for WiFi they are not going to give you good performance without a better antenna setup or more power. since you cant increase the power output your only other option to extend your range is a batter antenna.

Not sure what you're saying here. I had two Nexus Ones, having replaced the first due to a trackball issue. I have a high end wireless N router. Both N1s had about 90 ft range.
My question is if the differential in the range has to do with hardware entirely? Is the Fascinate not as wireless N friendly?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Just throwing this out even tho I'm sure u have thought of this. I get low bars on my fascinate to no bars of wifi after about 15 feet. However even with no bars it will actaully still work another 30-50 ft out into the driveway. Maybe just a poor signal on my end.

"high end" means nothing more than you paid more for a name. WiFi and its speeds are a standard, so no matter if you paid $30 for one or $300 for one they will perform the same. yes, there is a chance that the higher end one MIGHT be made with better components but i doubt it. as the poster above me stated, it could just be an issue with the signal bars not showing up but you still have a connection. download one of the WiFi analyzers from the market and see what that gives your for signal strength as you walk down the driveway.
If your router allows 3rd party firmware (like most Linksys models do), flash a better firmware to the router, such as DD-WRT, that allows you to increase the power output of the wireless system.
I have had the incredible since day one and picked up a facinate a week ago and I too suffer from poor wifi range. I also have an N router and have run up and download speed tests and my incredible smokes the facinate. I am hoping its software related and is fixed with the 2.2 update.
I have to tell you guys, an avid follower of xda I am very disappointed that a useless comment was made (now corrected) towards the issue at hand before trying to help. I thought helping each other is what this forum was designed for not belittling someone needing help? This is now the 2nd thread asking for help this guy has posted and and no help was offered until slapped on the hand... But hey, what do I know. I am only 48 years old.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Lol. I will freely admit I have no knowledge on the topic, only logic. I will check with a wifi signal app when I get home, on the way there now. I merely assumed it was losing signal because it loses wifi, and switches to 3G when I go out on the porch to smoke.
I also know I got the router I did because my older G would put out a very weak signal to the second floor, whereas now I pull almost full bandwidth from there.
Regardless, I will check shortly and post my findings.

MT4G WiFi Calling Application on Vibrant

Has anyone been able to pull the WiFi calling app out of the myTouch 4G ROM for use on the Vibrant? I really could use that functionality as I have poor coverage at my house. I searched around the forums and did not find anything promising. I am not sure if that app can even be ported but I know that T-Mobile plans to eventually make it available on other Android devices so I am hoping it is possible on the Vibrant.
I would love this as well. My new house doesn't have the best coverage sadly.
Please keep any questions posted in the Q&A section. Thanks
There is already a thread for this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807199 and DJF8 is right this should either be in Q&A or themes and Apps. But to answer your question and kill this thread yes it has been pulled, no it does not work as of yet. I don't think it's working on the MT4G yet either much like MediaHub when we first got our phones it's there just not ready on T-Mo's end.

I dont get what they are complaining for. They seem to have a ton of roms and devs, which is sure better than some update that is bloated.
If you notice, they're specifically banning the kinds of questions that we XDA users (as opposed to average users who don't know the difference between android 2.1 and 2.2) would like to ask: i.e. "How the hell does it take so long to deliver an update other manufacturers have pumped out in barely five months, even with their modifications".
I'm more inclined to believe that XDA is selling out than anything will actually end up being done...

Sorry Guys, wrong link in the OP Edited

I don’t see just one carrier when it comes to this device.

I see only one device. As far as I am concerned this is the SGS III or whatever you want to preferably name it, one single name, and one single name recognized by all, it should be, in all the Development forums it should be. There should be a universal name for this device that everyone calls it and it is referred to within the forums, this would be helpful if established. I don’t see this device as being T-Mobile’s SGSIII or Sprint’s SGSIII, AT&T’s SGSIII or Verizon’s SGSIII. No offense but IRC may have channels for this device, however misses contributions, however $%ssholes stay the @#ck out of the communications, if you feel the need to post your own discussion in the General discussion forum. The reason the possibility for this device; where a Team whose ever team’s, does not value it’s importance in this device. Why go to a limited area a limited mindset, when you can go to an area where everyone within open area knowledge consists of four carrier devices exists? This should be about Development uniting what you did before and what you plan to do- why not bring it together. Development should unite on this single device, while those channels are helpful for single devices; this single device brings four carriers together for more solutions, not ROM specific but everyone's work and effort (but every non DEV should butt the [email protected]#k out of the discussion.) As far as I am this is a device, regardless of the carrier, that works there should work here. Is this device new, absolutely? Are things going to change because of this device? Developers think of your efforts what was designed to work on T-Mobiles platform, is able to work on Sprint’s platform with this change, with this change it can work on AT&T”s platform and this change will work on Verizon’s. Implement these changes on each carriers platform so that each carrier benefits from the changes and so every SGSIII today or tomorrow will recognize the Developer that made the change work for them. They better [email protected]#king should. This is not a carrier specific model; this is a model specific to all specified carriers, so why is it not treated that way? Because, people are used to carrier specific specific models? This is not a carrier specific model and should not be treated that way. When people realize this? Who knows maybe never. In the interim, what happens, who the [email protected]#k knows. All I know I can imagine (same device) is if this is changed it works on Sprint, if this is changed it works on T-Mobile, if this works it on AT&T and will work on Verizon (You guys are the miracle workers, I am simply the beneficiary.) Why not work together to make a better solution, where everyone benefits? Don’t thank me, I am not a developer; thank the developers and thank their efforts, in every way you can. Think of the Allies, Verizon that will soon receive their devices they are strong extremely supporters. Act strategically, and make them your greatest friend. Make this device whether Sprint, T-mobile, AT&T and Verizon extremely strong. EVERY DEVICE should want to be an SGSIII power and energy is one thing, it is the DEVELOPMENT is the most important factor. THIS DEVICE HAS THAT. EVERYONE MAKES A DIFFERENCE.
Im guessing your giving the devs a hand at making roms/themes/mods universal so that noobs dont run into more problems by flashing things they "think" are universal. I hope you are, they need all the help they can get.
I just dont have the time to do that atm. But I will try to focus on roms/themes/mods we know will work on Sprint. Then comes the step of making it universal. It just takes a little longer. But we will make it happen And in the future you might want to use paragraphs, makes reading a little easier.

Look I'm not a Dev and I don't know who Dev's or all of them are. I have nothing to do with Samsung, I'm still waiting for my F#@King device, never have I flashed a ROM or ANYTHING else. BUT I WILL. But I bring people together. If you DON’T WANT TO BE PART OF THE SOLUTION, GET THE F#@K OUT OF THE WAY. NO ONE HAS TIME FOR YOU. I'm a rainmaker, live life to the fullest or GET F#@K OUT OF THE WAY SO SOMEONE ELSE CAN. No one in specific, just those who can't. I have been a member as many of you have on XDA. I have seen things that are ABSOLUTELY F#@KING AMAZING. With this cross carrier combination, why can’t more be done? I can’t do it, but others that are more talented than I can. Why limit at one’s potential, when one’s potential can be pushed further or farther? These ROMS that everyone talks about are human created, yet there is so much talent that lies deep and some exposed within this forum. Why stop here, maybe a solution is found here, then push further until stuck here, solution found here, then the answer is found and resolved as a working solution. WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO INTERUPT THAT??? To make a point of this or that? To lose out on the possibility of this or that… EVERYTHING CONTINUES…

Agreed. There have been a lot of quick fire rants about a device that has barely been out a week. Calm down and let things shake out. For right now we need to make sure things are safe for a particular device and then see if it can be universal.
If you were to flash something in from this one and only forum and brick your device because you thought everything in it was for your phone, you would then be ranting about how it needed to be split up because it's confusing.
If and when it is feasible to put everything together without worrying about a flood of bricks devices, the mods will. Until then smoke something good and relax.

I personally do not agree. I was against the idea if combining the forums as they have been done. It would be too easy for someone not as experienced as others to flash the incorrect rom, causing an inoperative device.
It would be wonderful if there was one firmware capable of operating on all carriers devices. Unfortunately, that is not possible, if for no other reason than the technology used in their data/voice transmission (CDMA,, GSM,etc).
Op, just relax a little. Your new device will be here soon enough. Many people were still waiting as you are.

I happen to agree with, and it is not in argumentative state.
There needs to be more people working together on this device.
This is not Sprint's SGS III device, it's not T-Mobile's SGS III device, it's not AT&T's SGS III device or Verizon's SGS III device. This is a community whether your neighbor is T-Mobile or Sprint, or across the street is AT&T. You talk to your neighbors and find out who they are, what they are going through and how to help them if you know how. Do I need to own another F#@cking device to that no way. And the devs do talk. As well as just casual users. There are always people saying, "hey, over in forum A, they're doing this. Will it work on our phone?"
I've had several devices and in every forum for my particular one this happens. It is a community and we do talk. We just don't all need to live on the same street to do it.
And it is not "one phone". There are differences. Maybe not brickable for the most part but differences none the less.

You don't think this is going to happen? As someone who will be " developing" for this device, you can bet I will be looking in each of the forums. There will be somethings that are universal...I am guessing some that will not. Just because my device will be branded AT&T, does not mean I am not prohibited to read the other forums.
The focus of the community has changed...maybe not in a written manifesto, but it has changed. What once was a Dev-centric forum has become user centered. Development forums have become more of a "can I have this" "gimme that" forum. Users don't come here to learn, they come here for the latest and greatest, and will flash without understanding what they are doing. Sure, they can follow step by step directions...but they don't know enough to trouble shoot when step 4 does not go as planned.
Keeping the forums separated helps keep the issues down...but should not hinder the developers working together.
Sorry for another wall...
