Unlocking HTC HD2 and Using it on AT&T - HD2 General

I realize this is a TMO forum but since the HD2 is a TMO phone, I'm hoping someone has already done this.
I've been with TMO since April and while I'm generally happy with lesser dropped calls than AT&T, TMO's 3G service is very sporadic and does not seem to be as prolific in its availability as AT&T's.
Has anyone successfully used an unlocked HD2 on AT&T?
I would appreciate any information and suggestions on this, especially which ROM(s) to use to de-brand it and any tips/tweaks that will allow the HD2 to fully function on AT&T, including Data and Carrier/Frequency settings.
I don't plan on using the AT&T 2GB plans, just their "Unlimited" package for "dumb phones". Tethering is definitely needed.
ANY help in this will be greatly appreciated. If you don't feel like posting, you can PM me with the details.
Thanks

im guessing you didnt read much before you posted. yes tons of people use the tmous on at&t, yes it works, no you wont get 3G.

Actually I did, and after wading through a seemingly endless barrage of "chatty" mostly unfocused and unrelated posts, I decided to cut to the chase and post my own thread with the hope that someone with SUBSTANTIVE answers would respond.
You see, a common theme in most forums (this one included) is that direct and specific answers are seldom posted. Instead, there is the obvious posts from those that just like to post and see their post published for the world to see and appreciate.
Personally, I find posts like "I have that same problem..." or "why don't you like TMO..." or even "have you read the other posts..." adds very little to the discussion and only serves to inflate the thread to a multi-page diatribe that does little to serve or answer the original question.
I really don't care to hear about the mother-in-law that has the same issue, or the poor guy with a bricked phone, posted in the same thread as a specific and succinct request for assistance.
Please don't be offended but if you feel like flaming me on this then I respectfully request that you do so in a specific flaming thread and not this one. I would really appreciate responses from those willing and wanting to answer my question, sans lectures and unrelated tripe.
Thanks in advance for understanding.

heh, fair enough.
direct answer, yes, it will work once you network unlock it, no you won't get 3g or hsdpa, and no amount of radio or rom flashing will be able to enable 3g, its a hardware limitation.

hd2 att 3g
The only way to get 3g on this phone HD2 on the AT&T network is to buy the Australian version Telestra T9193, they go for between 500-700 on eBay.

Thanks for the straightforward answer Now that the question's been answered I would ask the mod to please close the thread to keep it small and easy for others to see the answer as posted above and from having to endure twenty pages of nonsense like in other threads. I would never have posted this thread had I found the above answer succinctly posted sans tripe in other threads.
Again, thanks for the simple and direct response.
Now I can go try and justify selling this TMO HD2 and fork out more $$$ for a Telstra unit.

Requesting New "Accessories" Section

I agree. I've tons of questions and opinions about the availabilty of (or lack of) accessories for this phone.
How do we go about requesting a new "T-Mobile USA HD2 Accessories" child added to the "T-Mobile USA HTC HD2" parent thread?
I realize there may be a section for this over at the Leo side, but this is where I come for my 1024, since there are too many ways to go wrong back over at the Euro side...
I'll second that motion, because there are some clear differences in the two models which makes buying proper accessories difficult. It'd help a lot to have a T-MobileUS specific section.
Two things need to be made clear to new users:
"Don't flash a ...51... series Radio to your TMOUS HD2, or it'll be bricked!"
"Don't buy a European HD2 case for your TMOUS HD2, because it won't fit!"

I'm dying to find a good USB cradle.
+1 for this
me too! +1
Bump
I'm bumping this post because:
It got buried over the weekend to page 2.
I'm hoping the mods missed it due to the OP and plus-ones being written over the weekend.
I like to see my threads on the first page
Here's hoping...
even though this would be nice, I think we should be grateful to have a different section for ROM and General info. I really don't see the need for the different ROM section because I don't really look in the TMOUS section for ROM's personally because I know what to look for to make sure the ROM will work on my device, I know that this maybe for all the noobs around here (not calling you a noob) or people who need it in one space and don't want to search. I just kinda think that it is just making the site better then needed and I personal could deal without a driffrent section just for TMUS HD2's. I don't remember ever seeing different sections for GSM and CDMA version of different devices. I don't personally see this happing. Everyone is entitled to there own opinions though.

Hence the "Request" and not the "Demand" Seriously though, I would be grateful if it were just a single root and 2,000 pages. This site is tremendous and I have been blown away from Day One with the assistance from other users that is given away freely here every day.
That being said, I don't think I'm being ungrateful in asking for one more section. If that is the way it seemed, please accept my humble apologies.

Unfortunately, I did not originally know there was a difference. I had even picked out a (incompatible) ROM before looking for a Hard SPL. It was then that I stumbled upon the difference between the 512 and the 1024. It was also where I stumbled upon the "T-Mobile USA HTC HD2" root. Had it not been for the mistakes of others, who unfortunately bricked their phones learning the difference, I would have made the same rookie mistake.
As far as I can tell, this is the first time that a device difference this big has been released by HTC under the same general name (HD2, not Leo). This is the true source of the confusion, at least it was for me.

I haven't seen different sections for GSM and CDMA either, but then we are dealing with an entirely fresh set of eyes with this phone. If you read my "What Did You Go Through For The HD2?" thread, you'll see that a good portion of the posters there are professing to have switched from other Operating Systems from iPhone to Android to Blackberry.
That being said, I don't think that too many of the so-called "n00bs" are really that, just misinformed and new to HTC or even Windows Mobile. I am sure that it takes a certain mindset and tempermant to take your brand-new, roughly-obtained $500 gadget and attempt a maneuver that could possibly turn it into a big fat paper-weight. Thus, we are seeing a lot of new faces, but not necessarily naive ones.
---EDIT---
My PC keyboard died so I had to finish this with my phone
With the influx of new users, xda-developers will benefit by listening to the new users and adapting to increase the usability and manageability of the website.
The US version of this phone is slightly larger than the Euro version, making many of the existing accessories simply do not fit this device. This necessitates a definitive section that is clearly deliniated from the existing sections.
you certainly have the right too disagree and the mods have the right to ignore the request, but I also feel that it doesn't hurt to ask
Last bump.
If this doesn't get action, I'll drop it and start spamming the General board...

[Q] Hidden Fees for H?

Hello, i have flashed my htc with most of these roms and i like alot of them, my concern is that it shows up as H and not 3G , on one rom it says u may have additional fees for your set up. i have unlimited internet on my plan so does this really make a diffrence? another thing is there a setting to take the H of and leave it as 3G? thanks
what ever happened to the simple YES or NO answer ....you come to this website to look for it and everybody is a smart ass..not everybody is tech smart and just want simple answers.
For the record, I am a little offended by at least one of the above responses, and it was not even directed towards me.
To answer your question, No, you will not be charged more for 'H' (HSDPA) over 3G.
Yes, you can disable it, but you will not want to. H is a better connection than 3G and is preferable. You are fortunate to be in an area where it is availble.
Don't be afraid to ask questions in the future, as we ALL started out as newbies.
thank you very much supersport...
Have cleaned this thread. Please post on topic or not at all.
Also note the rules on interacting with others on here. At least one of the posters on the cleaned out posts was worth a ban.
Please let's just help the OP and keep this clean. Appreciate your cooperation.

yeah bro just disable it in advance net work settings. mine also runs better disabled.

[Q][CROSS-POST] T-Mobile data plan price changes leave me wondering.

This is a cross-post from the General section; figured I'd ask my community here too.
Hi, all.
I realised today that having a 5GB cap on my main internet connection is pretty low, since I either go over it or edge close to it every billing cycle. It really sucks when they throttle it; it's worse than EDGE in most cases, and totally impossible to use with work. Since I found out that they now have a plan with a 10GB data cap, I figured I'd jump on it.
Turns out that not only would doing this extend my contract two more years (don't want to do this), it would actually increase the amount I pay now since the rate plan on the 5GB data plan was increased to $49.99 from $39.99. That obviously sucks.
Worse, I head over to Verizon's page and they're offering the same plans at, practically, the same prices. On top of that, they have real 4G coverage (FiOS- or cable-ike speeds) whereas T-Mobile's HSPA+ signal is not great in my area (not much better than 3.0 Mbps DSL connection).
I'm extremely close to switching (don't mind paying cancellation fees; could probably get some of them back from selling the modem) , but want to hear other people's experiences first. Does anyone here have a data plan with them and, if so, are you satisfied?
I'm assuming you're talking about data stick prices, and not phone prices? Why is this in the DZ forum then?
Because some people on here might have those plans too.

You'll get better responses posting in general sections, not specific hardware questions. Especially in a section like this, where a large group of the users don't live in the USA.

Geez, Not everyone has the time to browse all the portals to find all the postings !!! Forewarned is Forearmed, and multiple postings whether in the "right" place or not, affords more people to be informed so let's not get so dammed uppity and posting "remove" comments etc. If YOU don't like it, just ignore it.... someone else may be thankful of having read it, and if not, they'll ignore it, too...... just my 2 cents on seeing some "Gestapo" attitudes. Guess they have so much time they have to POLICE things, having nothing better to do. Chill out Dudes! LIVE ALOHA !!!! (if you can understand that)

We're just trying to help you get your answers, you won't find them by posting to non-relevant topics.
For example: could someone here help me find some knitting patterns? I'm sure some Desire-Z users must also knit...
I can't help with your question though as I'm based in the UK, and I find all US plans seem to be very expensive.

Can this thread be closed/locked please? I made the switch and will be posting my findings in the proper subforum. Thanks!

Do not buy International if you use ATT LTE!

It was very difficult to find a concrete 'yes' or 'no' answer on the various threads here (a lot of discussion of bands and such which may be insanely intimidating to a new user / member). So, from what I've discovered from use and forums, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is that if you are use the 4G LTE network in America you will not be able to connect and use the enhanced speeds on the G900F model. Instead, you'll be stuck with 3G (if you're lucky) and 2G speeds.
Like I said, if anyone knows otherwise and if so can correct me in a very direct (and respectful) way so as to not intimidate new users (like my self) please do so. Especially since I'll be selling my G900F shortly. I truly do thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster that I kept my G900A version just in-case I found any problems with the international version.

You could have Googled this info within 10 minutes like here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709458, instead you layed back to wait for others to answer your question This is not the XDA way mate!

Thank you gee2012 for feeling the need to be insulting instead of adding anything productive. Because I am a new user to the Android OS, mentioned that I scanned through the forums here and did not find a clear and concise answer to my very direct question, and found conflicting information through google searches as well as threads here I thought I could possibly help out other new users who may have the same question and feel a bit daunted by the sheer wealth of technical information here. I thought helping each other out, especially those brand new to the OS, was the XDA way. Not responding with a purely negative message to someone trying to be helpful.

I`am not insulting or dissing anyone mate but you only had to compare for instance the G900F supported LTE bands with the used ATT bands on Google and you`re question would have been answered.

No disrespect meant and I apologize for not being specific in my response to you. When I say conflicting information it was based on a google search for what I felt was a basic question, "Does the S5 G900F support the ATT 4G LTE network?" That query led to websites with conflicting information (a few said it did, a few said it didn't, and a few more said 'maybe'). When I came across more information via these forums and more google searching there was no clear and distinct answer that was readily found. What was found, like you referred to, was information on base bands. Because I was new not only to the Android OS but the complexities of phones outside of the walled garden that is iOS I investigated what a base band was. From here I continued my search into the ATT bands and compared them to the S5 G900F model to see if they were compatible. Once figuring out that they were not I had answered my own question. After realizing that there are others out there who either don't have the knowledge, access to, or time I thought I'd share my 'discovery' (and yes, I realize it was not really one) with others.
So yes, you were insulting when you said I "'layed [laid] back to wait for others to answer your question" as I didn't. You assumed from my simple and brief post that I had not taken the time to do any actual searching and was lazily waiting for someone to answer my question. It was an incorrect inference which led to a seemingly sarcastic response (and associated ) which while it won't dissuade me from posting or asking questions does not, IMO, represent the helpful community aspect of XDA.
With that said I see you are a Recognized Contributor, so thank you for the information you've contributed to others throughout XDA.
I am noting more than you are. Just trying to help others by reading and trying to figure out how things work.

[Q] another s5 from vzw to att thread

joined those not happy with vzw, especially since move to mass. I have s5 I want to use with att, but with additional concern I have yet to find answered in my research.
because vzw 4g lte phones are not carrier locked--so vzw says, I gather there should be little or no problem with an att sim in the vsw s5. research confirms many with no problem after the transfer. however, and this is the reason for the thread, what happens when no 4g lte signal from att?
please excuse my ignorance if common sense should reveal that answer, but I am so angry with vzw right now I can't see straight. the ignorance is the s5 capability regarding signal drop to non-4g lte with vzw purchased phone and att network.
why? I started service with att, another phone, to see how the signal is in this area, prior to the transition, and I rarely have lte and often with hspa, not hspa+.
not impressed with the cellular service just outside of boston yet both vzw and att claim strong coverage. go figure. anyway, I hope someone can help me understand what the s5 can do versus what the carriers have done to them. recommendations or whatever, please fire away.
thanks.
nothing?
20 views and nothing?
maybe this will help if unclear: rarely do I have lte on the screen. sometimes I have 4g, not often. so, is it possible a 4g lte phone can drop to 3g? if so, does the cdma/gsm difference come back into play?
it would be nice to see from someone with vzw to att experience.
thanks.

The lack of replies might be because your questions have been asked and answered many times. There are more than 20 existing threads on this subject that answer your questions. Why not read the wealth of information in those threads first? More than likely that would answer all of your questions. And if not, then your remaining questions would be better informed.
In short, a Verizon phone can be used on ATT but it will always be a poor fit that won't work well in many circumstances. You can find the particulars discussed at length in existing threads.

I know this is not the first effort at xda-dev as my subject indicates, but I have yet to find the particulars once a transferred phone is in a non-4g environment. did I miss it? if it is here, yes.
I get the sensitivity some have for repeat entries, but it is a forum for sharing information and that often evolves. It is not always practical or the information uptodate or even accurate or whatever to think it unreasonable to have another instance surface. okay, I could bump one and see where it goes; some will cry about the thread is old. doesn't it make sense to revisit just in case new information or whatever?
with that said, I have not read that is it a poor fit in Many circumstances..still looking. Thank you.
