Hack to remove recent used apps in notification bar? - Desire HD General

I use the notification bar a lot so the "recent app" section is taking a lot of screen space...to much when it's up to me. Is there a Hack to switch this off and use the notification bar...for notifications? I know I can install a custom rom (my DHD is rooted) but if a hack can do the job?

I'm also curious about how to remove the "recent apps" from my notification bar, as it is useless to me (prefer holding down the home button) and taking excess space on the screen.
Desire Z here.

yep, a hack for this would be great. Pointless when you can just hold home IMO
Anyone?

Agreed, I never really understood this menu anyway, some apps don't seem to show up in it. Maybe it would be useful if it had a built in task killer.

I'd like to see it gone for another reason. When I use lots of different apps, and the "recent apps" change greatly Notification Bar lags, sometimes even 4-5 seconds, which is a LOT. Do you experience the same issue?
Also, bump on the idea.

Great idea! Would love some toggles or music controls instead.

I'm afraid that any major change to these icons or the "recent apps" section will require root privileges.

Definately worth rooting for. Liamstears theme has a customisable power bar in place, though it does allow for both if you feel the need to.

Yeah i know it's worth it, but i do enjoy a stock ROM. I really need a functional phone now, so i don't want to end up with a bricked device

then you don't have much of a choice really.. since u decided to stick to a stock rom and this removal of the recent apps definitely requires some hacking, u're stuck with having recent apps in your notification page

Yes, this recent apps in the notification bar is just useless and takes up the real estate space. Its so useless when you can achieve same from home button.
It will be great to get a hack or option to switchoff this stupid strip.

Ahh, damnit The only thing that's currently stopping me from rooting is the damn downgrade procedure. And i guess there's no point of struggling to make something thats roots 1.72 since 2.3/2.4 is coming soon (i hope).
What's the chance of bricking when downgrading and rooting?

0% lol its impossible to brick you device, downgrading or rooting! the only way to actually brick your device is when flashing a radio or bootloader

I see, i see! I'll read some threads before i decide what to do. Thanks

people use the "brick" word too easly imo, a bricked device wont power on at all, it is as useful as a brick (hence the name). but you see threads all the time "help bricked" or "have i bricked my device" when in reality there device is faaaaaaaar from bricked so dont let it scare you, its actually quite hard to brick your device

Ok, i know i'm off topic now, and sorry about that, but what is the best guide for downgrading and rooting the DHD?
Edit: Found it myself

If your phone is rooted you could flash a mod by he_stheone64 or by krzysiec and then changing the .txt file to stop showing recent opened app. All the instructions are on there great posts in the themes and apps section.

Yeah, i've done that and it's a very quick and easy process.

Yes please search, it's been talked about in great detail
Maybe I should have explained myself better... As I have been running LauncherPro Plus since I got the phone. Has anyone successfully REMOVED the stock TW Launcher ( I don't not want it running in the background eating memory) with an aftermarket launcher?
I did search and I didn't find shiz on this.. nor did I see a sticky in Dev or Q&A regarding the removal and replacement of a stock launcher.
If I'm overtly blind and did not see the obvious, I apologize in advance..

from what I know and have read Touchwiz is built over the android source code so it could be removed technically, but who is going to take under such a task when there are parties working to bring 2.2 source with some tweaks.
I'm sure it could be done but there are too many bright things in the near future of this device for anyone to take on such a task.
I could be wrong but this is my understanding on this device.
Well.. I don't really want to remove "TouchWiz".. Just the twLauncher application.
I would just prefer to avoid having 2 launchers running at all times.

Look, I'm not trying to start crap, but it was a valid question that was not answered correctly because someone assumed that I was asking if I could use "another" launcher rather then "replace" the stock launcher.
All I'm saying is, lets not be so harsh in our initial responses.

No, because the other launcher would still exist, and serve its former role.. If I "replaced" your job, you would not have it anymore, and you would likely no longer get paid. If I replaced the stock launcher, it would not function or act as a launcher anymore, and I would thus not want it to consume the memory it was originally allocated.
This is getting silly now.. I honestly don't care that much to bicker anymore. Lets just be friends and talk crap about all the iKiddies instead, sound good?

I hit quote on this thread and it somehow posted to the other. No idea how that happened.
OP,
My understanding is that once you set another launcher as default, TW home does not load into memory. The only advantage to physically replacing the apk would be that it would then be running from the system allocated partition and may load faster at boot. I really don't think there's a noticeable difference. I'm no pro, tho. That's just my half educated guess.

Sense/de-Sense?

I don't spend a whole lot of time in these forums. Mostly just following what's going on with the latest ROMs/leaks/radios, etc. I personally don't understand the reason that people was to de-sense their phones. Only thing that I see that it does is the "slide down" unlock (the part of it that I NEED), and the main clock/weather screen. Is there more to it that I am missing that's bloats it?

No need for Root!!!

Ok please dont start flaming me, its just my opinion after all
I received my first SGSII 6 weeks ago, and as flash addict (because of my previous sgs), I started to itch and I had mucsle cramps and my mouth drooling. this was 2 weeks after
From that moment I realised that I have to start over rooting my device & then flashing it (to get my daily fix). I did my homework for 2 days (thx to the great devs and the wonderful community here) & then rooted it. the experience is easy and straight forward.
2 days after I started flashing different awesome roms, all of them r great with very solid form factor. However, my phone front speaker was not clear and after asking here i found that I need to replaced it (special thanks to JJe who is dedicated to help)
My experience
After receiving a new phone and playing with it for around 2 wk now, I was able to realise that the advantages in rooting+flashing the awesome SGSII are very marginal, in contrast to the old sgs. In fact this device has cured my addiction, for now and im having a real life again
yes, I miss titanium, CWM, the beautiful theming of the new roms, file explorer, quick reboot, gps aids and few others. Nevertheless, the device is fast, snappy with crisp experience out of the box.
My advice
1- Dont listen to people who r *****ing about the phone all the time because this phone is almost perfect but not perfect though.
2- Dont, I repeat Dont root+/-flash ur device unless u reached the point of understanding the advantages of doing so
Disclaimer :
I held no responsible what so ever if I caused u any pain by reminding u with ur addiction

Generally pretty damn true.
But you forgot the best reason ever to root, because you can!
The advantages of rooting imho are: cwm, titanium backup, access to the conf files, adfree, and some more. I don't care about custom roms, the stock is good, you can freeze unnecessary stuff and instal other kernels or launchers.

Root can be really nice if you know what you doing. I fully agree with the op. But again I'm sure the most people know what they are doing. My GSII is not rooted this is the first time I didn't modify the phone for my own needs.

I read all the issues on xda and I must say I have none of them. No random boots I have great battery life 1 day heavy usage. I had no lag what so ever.

I think the ones in older Sense devices just logs crashes in apps though, while the one in new Sense devices logs everything, giving the old one less important info, and leaving the new one far more vulnerable.
Isn't this where droidwall or the like comes into play? Removal is always best but blocking those unwanted apps from accessing data should be commonplace.
