Replace the stock launcher ? - Vibrant General

Anyone successfully replaced the stock launcher yet (w/ ADW, Launcher Pro)?

Dude, read the sticky. This thread is sad.

Yes please search, it's been talked about in great detail

Maybe I should have explained myself better... As I have been running LauncherPro Plus since I got the phone. Has anyone successfully REMOVED the stock TW Launcher ( I don't not want it running in the background eating memory) with an aftermarket launcher?
I did search and I didn't find shiz on this.. nor did I see a sticky in Dev or Q&A regarding the removal and replacement of a stock launcher.
If I'm overtly blind and did not see the obvious, I apologize in advance..

from what I know and have read Touchwiz is built over the android source code so it could be removed technically, but who is going to take under such a task when there are parties working to bring 2.2 source with some tweaks.
I'm sure it could be done but there are too many bright things in the near future of this device for anyone to take on such a task.
I could be wrong but this is my understanding on this device.

Well.. I don't really want to remove "TouchWiz".. Just the twLauncher application.
I would just prefer to avoid having 2 launchers running at all times.

Before you nail me to the cross, please READ my question. I didn't ask if I could use or install another launcher. I asked if I could REPLACE the launcher, as in remove the TW Launcher in place of another.

Ok.. but was pretty simple question in plain English. I didn't know there was anything utterly complex about the word replace.
Maybe it would be just as easy not to "ASSUME"... I'm an idiot..
re·place

Look, I'm not trying to start crap, but it was a valid question that was not answered correctly because someone assumed that I was asking if I could use "another" launcher rather then "replace" the stock launcher.
All I'm saying is, lets not be so harsh in our initial responses.
All is good, I'm not mad, lets all just be friends

No, because the other launcher would still exist, and serve its former role.. If I "replaced" your job, you would not have it anymore, and you would likely no longer get paid. If I replaced the stock launcher, it would not function or act as a launcher anymore, and I would thus not want it to consume the memory it was originally allocated.
This is getting silly now.. I honestly don't care that much to bicker anymore. Lets just be friends and talk crap about all the iKiddies instead, sound good?

Stop giving op a hard time... he clarified what he means now lay off. Its a good question and I've not seen answered either and I'm here all day.... using over yes, but replaced no I haven't read anything...

Now that you've made it clear:
Check running services under applications. Touch wiz is not running. Check battery use, tw is not there.
Once you load a custom rom it will be moot anyway

Aha!
So it has been REPLACED. Not deleted, but replaced.
After all, if you replace me at my job, I am no longer working, but I don't die and get buried. I still exist, I'm just not working at that job.

I hit quote on this thread and it somehow posted to the other. No idea how that happened.

OP,
My understanding is that once you set another launcher as default, TW home does not load into memory. The only advantage to physically replacing the apk would be that it would then be running from the system allocated partition and may load faster at boot. I really don't think there's a noticeable difference. I'm no pro, tho. That's just my half educated guess.

Sense/de-Sense?

I don't spend a whole lot of time in these forums. Mostly just following what's going on with the latest ROMs/leaks/radios, etc. I personally don't understand the reason that people was to de-sense their phones. Only thing that I see that it does is the "slide down" unlock (the part of it that I NEED), and the main clock/weather screen. Is there more to it that I am missing that's bloats it?

Although I agree the bootup animation is from older versions of Android, It's clearly 2.x+ as shown at 1:20 by the lwp, phone app instead of dialer, and a few other apps in the drawer.

Just installed GingerBlur, some questions..

What are the benefits over the stock OS? I don't see anything new, and switching in between home screens is glitchier. I am running 1.8.3. Also wondering where the webtop option is? It's not coming up when I plug it in, nor am I finding it in the app drawer.
Well.... i don't believe GingerBlur is a different OS. As far as i'm aware, because of the locked bootloader, that's kind of impossible at this point. I believe GingerBlur is basically just an extremely modified version of the stock OS to make it look as much like Gingerbread as it can.

Well I completely understand that, but what is the rave about? My friend told em to keep getting it, and people seem to love it on here, so I figured why not? I am thankful for GingerBlur, and whoever is making it is doing a really great job, I am just wondering why my home screens are really running like crap. There is nothing wrong with it. It's a bit glitchier than normal. Like they aren't as "smooth" as they are on stock when flicking left and right to switch between the home screens. Also the webtop hack was installed before installing gingerblur, and it said it was included in the 3.1 update. I just don't see that option when connecting HDMI.

nvm reinstalled the webtop hack, working great however the homescreen shouldn't be lagging the way it is. I am uploading a video, it's not showing how slow it is though through the video. maybe I flashed something wrong in my phone.. i just rooted from stock without wiping anything, and updated to gingerblur. i keep seeing steps to flashing to gingerblur and reflashing the sfb first.. , but i didnt do that, maybe thats the cause of my "laggyness"?
UPDATE (Video with lag, it really looks smooth in this video for some reason, it's really only half that)

Its slick looking tho.
Yes, it's an AOSP-based rom.

I bet your shoes are made in China. Do you trust them? It's in English and has no spyware, or CIQ. The port for this phone however has several key features missing and no offense to the devs, it isn't quite ready for daily use. No builds have 4G. Epic's has unstable 3G, WiFi, GPS, and camera. The Devs are working hard though and trying to give us something to use.

They're not discontinuing the app. Learn to read.
If I buy a car and modify the engine I don't think I can go back to the dealer if something goes wrong. Companies can't support all modifications people do in their software. This big red sign is just to tell us, it's not like they locked it. Plus if you can theme it then you can change the warning, so not a big deal.

Seriously people? You're complaining about the developer not offering support to the app that he made and you changed? If I spend all my time on a version of an app, and then someone takes it and modifies it and then distributes it, and then people email ME about problems they're having?
