Orange UK - DVP available 22nd Nov - Venue Pro General

See here: http://www.buymobilephones.net/mobi...range-Canary-20-(24mths)/7648518?adnetwork=af
The essential words being "Availability: PRE ORDER - Expected on 22/11/2010 "
Any Orange UK customers want to give it a go and see what delivery date they actually end up with? (I'm looking to buy SIM-free and I'm tied into an existing T-Mo contract, so I won't be trying it myself)

that site looks like its full of ****. it gives virtually no info about the specs.

I'm pretty sure they're genuine but no way they're getting it on 22/11.

So happened that Orange called me this afternoon.
They know nothing of the phone, would have considered sticking with Orange if they could offer me a decent deal, but alas, like everyone else they have no idea.
Personally will wait my order out sim free, then get a 10 a month sim only contract on Three - way cheaper than these insane 24month contracts at 30quid a month!

the site is genuinr as ive brought my last sets of phones from them

Brand new orange M5000 for sale!! Get it cheap.

I am selling itn on Ebay, but thought I would see if anyone here on the site wanted it. It is a brand new handset that was provided by orange to me only 3 days ago. I have since had them upgrade me to another handset due to minimul to zero 3g coverage in my home. You can see my feedback, also if you Pm me I am more then happy to take any photos.
://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6475949561&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1
I have also got a bluetooth gps holuz reciever if anyone wants.
----Off topic----
Just out of curiosity, how did you have them upgrade you again and let you keep the universal? Didn't they want the Universal back?
Are we all allowed to put links to our eBay sales in here? Genuine question (to which I would expect the answer to be no).
I spend over £600 a month on orange and no they did not want the handset back. Beacuse they simply upgraded me for free but on the basis that I renew my contact for another 12 months. Which is no real bigge as my wifes family are all on orange. I have just bought a new voda contract and see my self going that way as I get full 3g coverage. I am sick and tiredof hearing the antenas are down in your location down sir.
Out of intereset this is my 5th upgrade this year on orange.
I have seen many other links for people selling their stuff on ebay. if anyone objects I will remove the link. Please let me know.
Regards.
Out of intrest i have now ended my contract early and my number is being made int pay as you go. Who says orange are all that bad, the reason so my wife can still get her extra 50% minutes and other benifits, as long as I top up 10 a month. So I am now on Voda and loving the free live. Out of my contact and not paying anything to end 11 months early a result. Thanks orange for being understanding, so it is good note that I end my time with orange. I still pay my wifes bill so I still have an account but my main number is now voda.
Repeat thanks orange for orange for being understanding, got nothing but love for you.
So I will be looking for less for the m5000, as I simply want to put orange in the past. Plus point can use my 8800 more now, with my now pay as you go number.
gr8!!
really they give you 5 upgrades in one yr!!!
ANd then they let you walk out w/o paying the line rental for the rest of the yr.
ofcourse you pay £600 a month though I would have not expected that. I mean they want to keep customers like you, why let you walk? and why offer 5 upgrades? Amazing!
Wish the networks had smthng similar for the more humble £300pm payers.

Where did/are you getting your Touch HD from?

I'm mainly interested in the UK buyers really, but I guess this thread could be useful for anyone if everyone posts where they got it and how much it cost?
I have a contract with 02 already and so have no choice but to buy the phone sim free. I have it pre-ordered through Play.com so is setting me back £520. This will be the first time I've bought a phone without my provider having given me it for free/nominal fee...I'm having a hard time coming to terms with such an outlay. I could buy a laptop for this price! I still want it though, it looks great!
i pre-ordered mine from clove - cost 482 pound with dhl shippment to croatia.
Will preorder tomorrow from www.digitec.ch.
Cost: CHF 689.- (with renewal of my subscription).

I am thinking of doing the same thing as this would be my first phone sim free too as well as windows mobile and although it is a lot I worked out that it could be cheaper then you think. As I put into the equation that if I got this from T-Mobile I would have to pay about £100-£150 for the phone plus my phone bill would be around £35-£45 per month on an 18 month contract.
But if I bought the HD sim free and changed to the t-mobile sim only deal (£25) I could save around £300 plus having to pay around £100 for the phone it comes to a total of around £400 or even more.
So in a way it does not cost that much but the only problem is paying a big lump sum rather then spread it out (thanks Capital one for your 0% interest until November 09).
My only problem is who to buy from?
I'm probably going to be getting one from Expansys along with a T-Mo web'n'walk contract.
I am in the same boat. I am only 8 months in on an 18 month contract with 3 network. I really want the phone. At £500+ for the handset and then just use my USIM in it (hoping it works and is compatible) seems a lot. However I could by a second contract with O2 and get the phone free on a £35 contract and pay around £580 in total for an 18th month contract overall. So for £80 more I get lots of minutes and texts over 18 months as opposed to nothing at all when just buying the handset. Decisions decisions.
Speaking from the other side of the pond...I preordered mine a month ago from Expansys USA for $885CAN, which at the moment is 453GBP. Not bad considering they want $1100CAN now.
i pre ordered mine from www.pdaplaza.ca last week at $940can , i will get it tomorow, they now sell it for $971 can
Pre ordered mine from here: http://www.algebeld.nl/index.php?Pa...tegories=0&ProductPlusProducts=0&DataBundel=0
I have also ordered an 8GB micro SD from Play, but wouldn't mind finding out if the UK sim free ones come with one, as another guy on this forum from NL said his did.
I've justified the cost to myself by the fact that I have sold two of my old phones and will 'only' need to put £220 to it to make up the balance.
I'll buy mine from o2 germany, because I have contract there. I hope that its coming this week, I'm soooooo curious.. I want it!!! So, I'll have to pay 290€ for it (in terms of contract, with 30€ per month), I think this is ok. Greez, cad^^
Wow! Guys in Canada can have their Touch HD's by tomorrow!!! awesome!
please do post ur reviews here once u get them. I am really concerned about its navigational capabilites, coz of lack of the DPAD.
I want to order the phone in USA, as my cousins staying in Manhattan will have to get it for me in December.
Long wait for me!
PS: PLEASE suggest me some "non-ebay Online Stores" where i can buy the Touch HD, with a creditcard.
Thanks.

If I do go for the Touch HD (considering SE X1 too - difficult choice), then I would probably (at this point) get it from Mobiles.co.uk.
I phoned up and told them that Orange have exclusivity on it in the UK (until 01 Jan 09 I believe).
However, the guy (who wasn't that informed it seemed) said that if it was on the site then it was authorised for sale.
Also, I saw on one website, a recent post said that with tariffs on O2 above 600 minutes, you get free web access as an "O2 Bolt-On". Seems like a good deal.
Unfortunately, O2 itself will have no stock and I've been out of my contract for 1 month now waiting for the X1 to come out. Therefore, I'd have to get a new contract, and a new number (you can't transfer an O2 number to a new O2 number provided by a third party I think).

I decided to go for O2 from mobiles.co.uk, as 600mins with a free internet bolt-on is a sweet deal. Only time will tell if they manage get around the exclusivity deal but I'd rather peel my face off than sign up to Orange's garbage contracts with a data package that is cat vomit.
Got mine this morning from www.pdaplaza.ca in montreal, i just love it

Vodafone or O2 or TMobile?

Hi guys,
After weeks of research I've decided on the HD2. I'm with Orange at moment and plan to leave this week when my contract expires (good timing)
Was hoping for your advice/experience on which network to go for, with regards to HD2 Rom versions, i.e. cleanest and most stable.
Any other pros and cons, other than obvious price plans etc, would be grately appreciated.
Thanks,
Raj
I recommend getting your contract through an online deal such as those offered by MobilePhonesDirect as not only are their offers cheap but you get an unbranded and unlocked handset straight from HTC. I got mine on T-Mobile Combi 30, 18 months, £34 a month for 700 minutes, unlimited data and unlimited texts. t-mobile are also the most generous network when it comes to data: you get an 'unlimited' allowance of 3gb compared to the paltry 750mb offered by networks such as Orange AND there are no extra charges for going over it. Supposedly you can only browse and not stream or download once you hit your usage cap but this is not something I've ever managed to do after being on web and walk for years.
From the experience I have received this week I cannot recommend Vodafone at all. After twice failing promised delivery days this week for an HD2 on 24 month contract they added insult to injury their customer car team phoned me last night to ask how I was "enjoying" my new phone. Er, what phone? The gentleman was very apologetic and said they did have a very few HD2 phones in stock and he would dispatch one straight away. Sure enough, within minutes I got a dispatch text message saying my phone was on the way. This was later followed by a message from DPD couriers to say that had a package for delivery this morning. Sure enough, shortly after 9 am a package arrived complete with a brand new HTC phone...
...an HTC Touch Pro 2 !!!
I phoned Vodafone straight away to be told they couldn't find out what had happened as "their systems are down" but I was assured it was just as good a phone. WTF? I said I wasn't happy and wanted the phone that I had ordered and not an older, slower, cheaper model. I was promised my account manager (it's a business contract) would call be back after 12pm when their system were working. She didn't (third time this week she has not returned my calls as promised).
I contacted them this afternoon to find out what happened and was (again) promised that the correct phone would be delivered as soon as they had more stock in (no mention of where the three earlier ones that had supposedly been allocated to me had gone to!). I explained that my number was due to be ported from my current provider O2 on Monday over to Vodafone and as such would no longer work on my current phone which is SIM locked to O2. "No problem Sir, use the unlocked Touch Pro2 until the HD2 arrives and we''ll collect it afterwards."
Anyway, after reading the comments on here from people who say they have deliveries guaranteed from O2 I decided to phone them to see if they could improve upon their offer to upgrade my expiring contract with O2. Sure enough O2 assure me they have then in stock and will deliver on Monday, what's more they only wanted an 18 month contract, whereas Vodafone wanted a 24 month contract for the same monthly outlay.
I was going to switch to Vodafone upon recommendation, but my purchasing experience with them has been anything but good and I certainly don't won't to enter into a 24 month contract with such a shambolic outfit.
Thanks for that, looks like 1-0 to TM
Had a look at TM tariffs, and the one you've got leoni looks pretty good. One thing I can't find easily on provider's sites, is whether MMS are taken from your text allowance or charged seperately. Orange charge for MMS, and also texting when abroad.
I know my questions sound a bit basic, but I've been with Orange for about 12 years......and its time to leave
Anyone else care to share?
Cheers
Have to agree on not dealing with Vodafone under any circumstances.
I've always had good phone service and good experiences with customer support at T-Mobile, but haven't had any dealings with O2 in recent years.
No real difference on the ROMs - the carriers have thankfully been easy on customisations this time around, and differences seem to be mostly removed apps (youtube, wifi router etc.) that you can add back in later anyway. Check the thread for the T-Mo ROM, and there should be details coming in of the others too, now they're starting to be available.
In other words, ROM specific differences really shouldn't be an issue, go for whoever offers you the best value price plan and network coverage where you plan to be most the time.

T-Mobil (UK) stock of HD2

I called last week thursday and they said they will have them on Friday but no luck yet.
Does anyone know when T-Mobil will be getting more of these in stock.
T-mobil n ow have them back instock for upgrades or new contracts if anyone is looking
So have MobilPhonesDirect, mine's shipping for delivery Friday
bump...anyone know what the situation is now with t-mob?
I just called them and they had a delivery today of 30 and have sold out. But some T-mobil stores are getting stock in later today as well.
ITs funy when I first rag them today and went through to direct sales they had them in stock for new connections but when I told them I wanted to upgrade they said we have none in stock for upgrades.
What a joke,
I suspect that's what all the main providers are doing..trying to rope in new punters and stuff the one's they've already got...a bird in the hand etc...if you've got the cash to splash all the sim free outlets seem to have stock at the moment which if you're prepared to get a new number may be the way to go

or if you're due for an upgrade then harrass t-mobile into giving you their super discounted sim-only deal.
You can if you're really persistent get them down to under £9 month including web&walk for a basic pkg.
Obviously that does mean you have to have teh cash to buy a sim free HD2 though.. but over two years it may work out cheaper!
I'm seriously tempted to forget about a contract and go to payg when my contract ends. £10 per month and you get free data.
I think I might have to do that and get a sim only phone and get them to put me on a super low mothly tariff.
I have just checked some stores today via phone and they say that they are getting some stock in today sometime this afternoon.
If I have no luck this afternoon then I will go the Sim free option.
Lets see what happens!
If anyone does find stock in their local T-mobil store in the London Region then please let me know.
Thanks
tmobile do have new stock i ordered online about 7 days ago got an email yesterday saying it was on its way should be with me within 2 days, and its just turned up today.
mine turned up today after 7 days from ordering online (new customer)

Unbranded HD2 from mobiles.co.uk or mobilephonesdirect.co.uk?

Hi,
I'm thinking of ordering this phone either from mobiles.co.uk or mobilephonesdirect.co.uk and I would like to know if people in the UK that have recently got their phones on UK contract through either of these companies have received unlocked and unbranded generic HTC phones with all the standard software and accessories.
Also if you believe that your phone is unbranded have you been able to use the serial number to download a ROM from the HTC website?
Now that O2 and T-Mobile are also supplying the phones directly I am worried that these vendors may start supplying branded units from the networks.
Thanks.
Unlocked, unbranded stock bought directly from HTC.
I bought a HD2 on contract from mobilephonesdirect (instore though) and it was unbranded and I was able to flash the ROM with the upgrade from the HTC website.
If you buy the phone direct from the network provider you will probably find that it is locked down and branded.
Just had mine delivered from mobilephonesdirect.co.uk, on t-mobile contract (ordered Monday pm delivered Wednesday)
Phone is unbranded. The serial number let me download the latest 1.48 ROM from HTC (already installed on the phone when it was delivered anyway).
Just put my old O2 sim card in. Connected straight away, so it's sim unlocked.
bought mine from mobiles.co.uk with a vodafone contract.
unbranded and unlocked, as are all their handsets!
amazon
I bought mine from inkino in london for 519 pounds at the beginning of Dec.
Today I bought another one for my friend and I asked for the price they said 539 pounds, so we end up buying from amazon.co.uk for 513pounds.
I bought mine on a t-mobile contract a few weeks ago from mobiles.co.uk
I haven't tried entering the serial for a rom upgrade yet (just gonna wait for 1.61) but as near as i can tell (is there a way to check for sure? like a code in the rom version?) it's unbranded/unlocked. Youtube app is still there, no branding anywhere in phone etc.

As i mentioned in the previous post, all handsets from mobiles.co.uk are sim free versions, that is why you got your sim card in a little white envelope instead of in the box with the phone.
I've just bought an O2 HD2 from the shops. The case itself is a stock HTC HD2, not branded. The software has an O2 splash screen and a few wallpapers, along with CoPilot trial.
So the case is fine, and a custom rom later down the line will make it look like a standard HD2.

Definitely good to know, since otherwise a sim free handset with a stock rom would cost a fortune.
You might want to take a look at the list of vendors/sellers in the wiki.
Right now Handtec are the cheapest (without a contract) in the UK with a price of UK£ 486.40 (€538)
Word of warning; not all handsets are unlocked/unbranded.
Look for the "Unlocked" green tick on product pages.
If you buy from Mobiles .co.uk and order through Quidco you get £50 cashback!! (£5 to join). Got my cashback into my Quidco account to be paid in January.....
I Looked at both of these company's but the lack of contact number on one and the fact the other never picked up the phone worried me.
I Ordered mine from The www.onestopphoneshop.co.uk. They picked up the call in a couple of rings, So i could check availability. It was then delivered the next day. They are part of the car phone warehouse, so hopefully any possible future problems should be resolved quickly. They are also offering 12 month contracts that i have not seen from the likes of vf,t-mob etc. My total contract price is less than the RRP of a sim free HD2. Great!!
Its Also unlocked
I eventually got my HD2 through mobilephonesdirect after about 2-3 months of phoning up, emails and complaints. The website form wouldnt work with my address and they refused to admit there was anything wrong or help with the problem. My flatmate is trying to order the same but still has had no luck. I only managed to get an order through with them when i managed to speak to the one decent guy in the call centre. I think his name was 'adam', he'd be worth asking for if you need to phone up. He took 10 mins out to process my order over the phone and completed it without a problem - the site form hadn't worked with the exact same information.
The staff promised many times to give me a call back to take a phone order but i never recieved one. Often they were rude or had an attitude.
I'd really advise anyone to avoid them, however they did have the best monthly deal (tmobile web n walk 30 package - 700 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited web [and the highest fair usage cap per month compared to vodafone's 500mb monthly usage]).
Another note: instore staff are far more polite than the people i've spoken to on the phone.
Dont order from mobilephonesdirect!!!
hi just trying to save you alot of hasle. do not order from mobilephonesdirect website. i ordered my phone from them it didnt arrive after a week so i cancled my order. about an hour after canceling i had an email saying that my order has been dispatched (AFTER I CANCLED) not only that all my emails where not answered correctly. i then had my second caclelation email answered by 1 that said i would not recieve my phone for another month at the time i had already recieved bills from o2 and they couldnt cancle my new contract as mobilephonesdirect had set it up and they refused to refund me my money till they got the phone(WHICH I TOLD THEM NOT TO SEND) back and i didnt even recieve that. had to get trading standards involved and i started a contract with tmobile but still no refund for the bills that i payed.
# oh yeah also when i ordered they advertised garanteed next day delivery and also said the phone was in stock... only after a week and atempting to cancle i found out that they didnt have it in stock at all.
My thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my query.
mobiles.co.uk
