[Q] CDMA version? - Venue Pro General

Perhaps this is a silly question, as I would probably already know the answer if there was any info...
Will there ever be a CDMA version of this device? This would be the perfect phone, if I could use it on Verizon.
I'm assuming no, since all of Dell's phones (Streak, Aero) so far seem to be GSM-only.

Doubt it.

Dev phone is rooted?

Hi all,
I have the original non rooted RC30, I was wondering if the DEV phone is rooted out of the box. I would like to go back to RC29, then convert my phone into a DEV phone. I am searching in the meantime but I was wondering if anyone could quickly answer this for me. I basicly want to know, will it be rooted? Would it be unlocked.
I'm guessing the phone will be exactly like a DEV phone after that(except the back cover).
Thanks
actually no, applying the dev update to your g1 does not make it a dev phone. The dev phone is sim unlocked and rooted (hence the name - Developer)
It will have root. However it will still be sim locked and use the G1 SPL. You'll have to take other actions to change those other two aspects.
Thank you for the responses. I still need to do more homework(I'm at work) but I guess this answers my question. Since both phones are the same hardware wise then after making those changes it should be a DEV phone?
The reason I'm asking is because of the updates, as Android grows, from what I have read T-mobile will not necesarilly push the updates. With a DEV phone I'm guessing I would be able to take full advantage of these updates?
I am a developer but probably won't be doing much with Android so basically I just want to be able to always be using Android in its full glory.
My last question would be, how do these DEV phones get official Google updates if they are not on T-mobile?
ok, I lied, one more. Will the Android updates always support the G1? or will it be up to T-mobile? I don't mean fave fives and all the other stuff, i mean the G12 drivers and making sure android plays nice with the G1.

the dev phones will not get ota (pushed) updates. yes they are both basically the same hardware, and if you put the dev boot loader and the adp software you will in essence have a adp1.
Android updates will be android updates - made to work on emulator and devices, if there is an android phone that is branded ie the g1 t-mobile will need to test first and add their software components before the ota is pushed to people on t-mobile network with G1s.

A couple of simple questions.

Hi folks,
I have a couple of simple questions and I hope some of you users here might be able to answer the question.
1) If I'm getting this straight, this phone is quad-band. This means that it'll be usable in any part of the world (this is of course after I get my phone unlocked?). The only thing that differs is whether you'll be able to get anything 3G and up. As for EDGE, it should be pretty much available anywhere. Is this correct?
2) Is this phone worth getting if you do not intend to use the data-plan? Does it seem silly to purchase this phone just for the phone? Or is the 3G a necessary component to truly maximize the feature-set of the phone?
3) How good is the stock ROM? What are your some likes/dislikes about it?
4) How good is the SD card? I've been reading on how the SD cards might be the culprit behind lockups and freezes.
5) Does it even make sense to purchase the international version of the HD2? I keep reading on how the International HD2 can for the most part, use any radio, whereas on the T-Mobile version, you're restricted to a specific range of radios. Is this restriction of range a deciding factor?
And....that's about it!
Thanks.

[Q] Unlock, root, bootloader??? Huh?

Let me apologize for how horribly informed about phones I am even though my study is in a related industry (I'm a computer science undergrad), but I just don't understand all the different terms well enough to draw any proper conclusions as I research my way on getting a Galaxy S4. (I will be getting the Fido S4...so I'm guessing the i337?)
So let me get this straight:
Rooting gives you root access, as with any *-nux systems. So it means you'll have full control of your phone.
And as far as I can tell, only some variants of the S4 are root-able at the moment
Bootloader (lock/unlock) is whether or not you can put in a new (custom) firmware or not.
And so far, it looks like most variants are locked in terms of the bootloader.
Unlocking, I'm guessing in most occasions mean SIM-unlocked right?
What I don't understand is if a device is rooted and flashed with a new ROM. Does that effectively also unlock the sim lock?
Sorry for the weird questions and I know it doesn't seem like it's really S4 related, but I'll be getting an S4 soon so I thought it'll be a good idea to ask in here. More to the point, I'm worried about what it takes for me to get my new phone to the most potential. One thing I'm most concerned about is the SIM lock because there is a good chance I'll be traveling with this phone.
Thanks in advance for any answers.

[Q] 16gb specific ROMs install on 32gb or 64gb S4?

Maybe it's a stupid question to many, but... I have the chance to order a 32gb korean version of the S4 off Taobao.com, and since I live in China it's quite convenient. The only issue I have is that I refuse to use an android phone without rooting it, and I've been a happy Wanam user for a long time on my S3.
The taobao seller states that 16gb ROMs CANNOT be used for 32gb models AT ALL, but I know better than blindly trusting ignorant Chinese vendors who usually don't know what they are talking about (personal experience).
It does not matter whether it's 9500, 9505 or whatever, this seller has all the models (even 9508 dual sim), I just want to understand if SIZE is a problem or not... Will I be able to just simply root it, and keep using the stock ROM at least? Or maybe I'll even be able to install ANY 16gb ROM of my choice? Or none of the above???
Thanks!
P.S. I searched the S4 forums but found no reference at all to this question...

As long as you're flashing a i9505 ROM to an i9505-like(aka U.S. Carriers variants) device, and an i9500 ROM to an i9500-like device, you'll be just fine. Don't try to flash unlike devices(i.e. i9505 to i9500) though. Best case scenario, the flash will fail. Worst case, you'll brick the device.
Internal storage capacity has never, to my knowledge, had anything to do with what you could or could not flash.

That would be my same guess, although the seller was adamant to the fact that it won't absolutely work (he even declared that he tried himself...). Though I agree with you, I'll wait for some concrete proof, when 32 and 64 gb versions will be more widely available, or at least until someone comes out with a first-person experience of this.
Anyway, thanks

I don't want to call the guy out... but that seller has some very funny ideas; likely he was trying to flash unlike devices. If you want further feedback, I'd suggest posting this question over in the AT&T forums since the 32gb is more widely released. Further, from my past experiences, I've successfully flashed ROMs intended for the Developer Edition(64gb) of the HTC One onto my 32gb.
Let's say, hypothetically, he's correct--the developers who create the ROMs would be required to, perhaps not by forum rules but more so out of "I'm not responsible if you do this," declare their ROMs only usable by certain phones with certain storage capacities?
I will applaud you for taking your time, reading, and doing research before jumping into the fray. Is this your first phone you've rooted?

Not at all, I rooted my first HTC Legend years ago, then my current S3,and so on. Happy user of Wanamlite ROM on my current S3 at the moment. Anyway, I guess our idea is correct. Not to belittle the vendor's experience, but in MY experience PRC people can be quite often very ignorant, or appear so at the very least, and declare the impossibility of an action or a request just to avoid any sort of responsibility in case the crap hits the fan... Think it as a sort of "ultimate disclaimer": I told you not to do it, so if you try and break it it's your problem.
After saying all this, I guess I'm in no rush since my S3 is still working like a charm after more than one year, I'm just exploring the S4 alley since I bough a SUPERCOOL Nolan bluetooth helmet for my bike, I use 2 sim cards at the same time (1 personal=S3, 1 work=HTClegend) and the HTC Legend's bluetooth is sort of fried So I was looking for a way to upgrade things.
I'll follow your suggestion and try to post in the AT&T section as well.
Thanks!

A very odd question about modding

I have scoured the internet looking for an answer to this question but no such luck. Nobody seems to have ever asked/wondered about it. I've seen the guide here about modding the sgs5 to work with virtually any carrier but I assume that applies to US phones. So my question is, could it theoretically be possible to mod a Japanese S5 to work on a US carrier like Verizon, etc? If so, would it work the same way as modding a US one? The problem I see is that the Japanese S5 has a completely different model number than a US S5 but I don't know if that means the tech is different or not.
The reason I ask is because I moved to the US and still have my Japanese phone, but I want to change to a US carrier. The thing is, I have a lot of apps that I paid for and would like to keep them if I can and they aren't available from the US app store nor compatible with US phones. If this is completely impossible I'll take the loss but I thought I'd ask first. :3
I could break down and switch to apple as it's not region specific but I loathe that idea. DX
