O2UK Official Froyo update now available via Kies - Galaxy S I9000 General

Don't know if anyone has reported this yet. Froyo is now available to O2 UK customers with branded handsets like me. Just upgraded from JM1 via Kies after months of waiting. So far so good.
Details:
PDA: I9000ADJP5
Phone: I9000ADJP3
CSC: I9000UJP3

great. can you check if you can put UK postcodes into the contracts address, and see if the Gallery sensor drains the battery. use *#*#4636#*#* to get into battery stats

When it came out on vodofone on monday, so many people had problems with kies it was un believable. Going by the vodafone forum we're talking 10's of 000's
And why does a company the size of samsung only have one server location for the whole world??
I wish all o2 customers good luck!

I just upgraded to this and it's great. I had previously used the reg hack to upgrade to JPO and suffered lag problems and found Exchange on the default email app to be unusable.
Now, on JP5 and there are no lags and the email app is working fine. GPS lock is faster too.

I am JPO as well, might give this a whirl, i need to make sure that the speedmod kernel works with this first.

JP3 for the phone and CSC, isnt that an older Froyo release?

I did the reg hack to put JPO onto my o2 branded handset. Is it really worth putting on the offical o2 rom on, is it really that different speed wise?
can you check your sensor battery usage after opening the gallery and see if it constantly uses the sensor even after the gallery has been closed for a while.
use *#*#4636#*#*

I thought i would just put it on to try it (no data or settings were wiped), i have just rooted it and i am gonna put the speedmod kernel on shortly, then i'll test it for a few days.
Looks like the sensor is constantly being used, opened it up to check history a few times and the time has gone up every time, even with gallery closed.

After initially running better JP5 has rapidly deteriorated, with lags and force closes, including system force close, which I've never seen before. Seriously thinking of reverting to JPO

I have disabled notifications and all lags and force closes have disappeared. Sad really but it dies appear to be the most problematic aspect of Android and has always been erratic. Previously Facebook and Twiiter

Finally it's out !! yaaa
but why I can't see the information of my old FW and the new one ?
I think Samsung's servers are Choking haha
I hope I can upgrade at midnight when no one is upgrading

I upgraded yesterday via Kies. Worked fine, no problems.
I'm finding the performance is good, no lag, no hangs etc There are new icons and new options such as turning off packet data which is very handy when you are in a location that has poor 3G signal.
Overall after a day I would say there is no drama but I'll have to wait a while to see if there is any real improvements.
BTW I've got a boggo standard handset that is O2 branded.
Cheers

Just done the O2 firmware update (can't do any other firmware flash due to 3 button combo not working) and all want well........[bold]BUT[/bold] the GPS no longer works properly.
While on 2.1, it was excellent, but now it's slow at getting locks and most of the time my position is way off.
Can't be a hardware issue because it was great on 2.1.
How do we fix this (not having the 3 button combo restricts me from a lot of other options)?

Just checked mine it does not allow UK postcodes the tag is "Zip Code" and only allows Numeric values and Yes the Gallary sensory is the higest of the barrery usage under history.
Like many after installing 2.2 I had to do s factory reset. I had speed issues and my email client would stop responding and force close after update.

See if it makes a difference

Been running O2 froyo since yesterday and its good. Battery is fine. Was lagging until I removed task killer, now ok. GPS is better but still not great. Overall thumbs up.

UK succesful update through kies hack.

I have just done the registry hack and got JPM through kies without a glitch.
It took me literally 2 minutes to do the registry and then just let kies download and install the update through the normal method.
I have not lost any apps / data.
My connection over 3g and sms and wifi is working fine.
All google accounts are intact.
I updated from JM1 to JPM.
If any UK users are having any worries about doing this i can tell you that it ran perfectly for me.
I would recommend the method but dont blame me if something did go wrong lol. Do so at your own discretion.
Did it change your product code?
Did the same as you 2 hours ago and it running like a dream!
I'm really tempted to give this a shot but after reading about a possible brick form another UK user, I think I'll wait until Samsung UK officially rolls out the update.

and what difference are there between JPM to JPA to JP6? They all run froyo don't they?
Can someone please upload some MP4 HD video so we can see how it looks now and is it close to the iPhone 4 quality ?

Sorry im new around here, what you mean by normal method ?
Just tried it, a bit nerve wracking during that looooooong (well, it seemed long) reboot but its brilliant now. GPS a lot better, flash playing, the pinch to see all 7 home screens etc. Very happy!
FYI I am on an unbranded SGS with a vodafone contract (bought through phones for you).
PS the RAM monitor in the samsung task manager only shows 304 meg of RAM. I remember reading somewhere that FROYO uses all 512 meg, is the difference because of chunks reserved by the OS for stuff?
After an incredibly long boot, I have successfully updated my JM1 unbranded phone using this method
Nothing at all was wiped and the market etc. worked perfectly without me doing anything - the entire process went very smoothly.

By normal method i mean after you have changed the kies registry you just go back into kies and click on pgrade firmware and install 2.2 as you would with any firmware through kies.
Glad its worked for the rest of you guys too.
It is a little bit nerve racking lol but its worth it and as long as you do everything correctly you should have no problem at all.
The people that HAVE had trouble are mostly people that have forgotten to take the lagfix off their phones before starting the update... Even if it was the UK version and they went for the upgrade without taking off the lagfix it would still cause problems to the phone.
Vow, I thought hd video quality cant be better than this, for a phone..

I DESPERATELY need this update to fix my alarm clock but if it doesn't the phone is going back as I'm sick of being late for things due to having no morning alarm! (The clock on my SGS stops updating when the gphone goes to sleep hence I get no morning alarm!)

I'm on Orange and am waiting until it's officially released Via Kies. Only reason being, that I phoned them when I discovered the GPS problems and told them if it wasn't fixed in the firmware update, I'd be asking for a different phone.
Point being, just be sure you aren't going to void your warranty using the Reg hack.

Was your handset debranded and/or unlocked at the point of updating?
FYI
Spoke to the Orange Customer Service team today. He confirmed that Froyo should see a full release over Kies by the second week of December.
Even though it won;t fix my GPS issues, at least I'll be able to copy and pasts from Emails!

haha yeah I know what you mean.
My phones also being replaced tomorrow to see if I can get one with a working GPS. I have told them that I'm prepared to go through their whole stock until I find one that works
Either that or give me a white one, that way I know it's a more recent manufacture and will hopefully have the GPS fixed.
Wish me luck.

Good Luck!
Hate to boast but my GPS works really well ...
Really?
What's the longest journey you have been on? and have you deviated from the set course?
This is when I see it at it's worst.
Just for you information as well, it seems a bit strange to me. The replacement phone they have sent it a cross between Eclair and Froyo. It says 2.1 update in the software screen, but it has a GPS button and new task manager? Bit stange
It also comes with more Orange Crapware. And here's a slightly interesting thing. On my first SGS, I noticed it had a kind of springy sound inside, if you gave it a light flick it would have the very slight reverberation, as if there was a spring inside that was attached only at one end. The new one doesn't have any such sound / feeling to it.
I wonder if there is a connection to the GPS being crap on the first device?
I'll do a proper test of the next few days and report back.

My SGS firmware/software exactly as yours is-only got it 6 weeks ago.
Havent been any vast distance on gps but mucked up with it seeing how fast it picks up satellites, trying it out on localish roads and turning off bypasses for example the exit before it tells me too (cos I know the roads) it generally has worked out the route by the time Im on the roundabout at the top of the slip road. Bearing in mind Im in a Transit usually so not moving that fast to start with... Does all I need, and well. Apps like Layar work well too.
Hopefully for you this version sorts out the hassle with GPS.
I did a track back from Footie tonight, only 5 miles, but it seemed good!
No jumping about, although I did have the updates set slow-ish. Will try with Google navigation on Friday, have an hours drive to do.

System Update 1.84.708.1 CL322105

First things first, HTC Desire Z, I am in New Zealand on the Vodafone network in case that makes a difference and running bog standard Sense UI with no mods or ROMs or anything like that.
I have done a search and can't find anything similar anywhere except some asian sites, and I suspect (but hope it isn't) because the phone came from Hong Kong.
Ok, last night an update came through to my phone with the above code, I have lodged a query with HTC but no response as yet and figured you guys may have a better/quicker fix.
Essentially since the update came through the phone has been very slow and glitchy... stalls on background screen before loading app buttons, widgets, menus everything.
So I guess I want to know A: is this a legit update or is it some sort of hack?
and B: can I revert somehow to the last/correct version or am I going to need to install a ROM and start from scratch?
I appreciate your help and if you need any more info just ask.
cheers
Tis legit. HTC seem to be rolling the update worldwide, but very slowly. My dad got it in the UK last Tuesday, I'm still waiting.
His phone seems to be ok. If you're still having problems, try hard reset?
Cheers dude, ok at least that is one less thing to worry about
might give a hard reset a go
I've heard that once you do a update its always good to do a factory reset its like a pc you'll need to give it a good cleaning some time LOL try that

You'll find that if its provided through a carrier, they'll handle the software updates after HTC issues them to ensure their "value added software" or "crap" is loaded on it.
Saying that, mine is a UK SIM free from HTC and I still haven't got the 1.8x.xxx.x update, I'm at 1.72
Heya, I also have the Desire Z, bought from Hong Kong, use on Vodafone, live in Wellington NZ, and also did the update this morning.
Haven't noticed my phone running any slower yet but keen to see the improvements touted though. So far just seen little UI cosmetic changes.
Be sure to go into accounts and redo your sync settings, it put stocks and weather back to real time sync on mine...turned them off straight away.
AHHHHH that could have something to do with the hanging issue. I did a hard reset and initially it seemed better but then once I had re-instated my backed up data, contacts etc, (especially after I shut off the HTC messaging app, and re-synched my google accounts for some reason) it started hanging again.
Maybe the stocks (which I have banished) is trying to sync in the background somewhere? *wanders off to see*
It is a good sign that it is working on other DZ's, main issue seems to be on keyboard open/close events... so might just be incompatiblility with an app I'm running... god I hope it isn't Handcent
Ok, update time, redone the sync settings, removed anything that has been added in the last week or so in case I just didn't notice (unlikely but ???) the hanging problem.
oefox are you using Handcent for your messaging or the standard messaging app? i have removed it and that seems to have made a slight improvement although only very slight... this is driving me mad... may have to try another hard reset tonight and rebuild the data only and start again with apps.
Fake edit: HTC got back to me "try soft reset, hard reset... sorry can't help as phone is HK build, we have passed your query to them... they will be in touch" We shall see?
Actual Edit: Also seems to be destroying battery life all of a sudden, and it seems to think it has been off the charger for 22 minutes... which is odd as it came off the car charger 5 hours ago... hmmm.. definite issues here... looks like an actual rebuild may have to happen :/
You could try an app like Watchdog Lite from the Android Market to see if there is a process gobbling up your CPU cycles? It may be the cause of what's slowing the phone and draining your battery...
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Thanks for that, I have installed Watchdog Lite, removed a couple of apps that I thought might be a little bit problematic and I will stop playing with it for the day and how the battery reacts to "normal" use i.e. not constantly setting/resetting loading/unloading/deleting/syncing/unsyncing stuff lol... still seems to hang and whatnot though but we shall see.
If that doesn't help I will try a fresh hard reset and build from scratch (not from backup) and see if that helps :/
Call me uninspiring but I really like the default email and messaging. I have found after playing with it for a couple of days now that it will sometimes hang for a couple of seconds when returning to the home screen, shows the background but no icons for a few seconds.
On the plus side my wifi seems to have improved stability somewhat.

I mean everything is just fine
I thought that it would upgrade it to Gingerbread and Sense 3.0
I would be nice to have that version

I have an HK Desire Z as well, and have experienced the exact same problem since the system update. I have not tried a hard reset because I'd rather not spend the time, but the home screen "blank and reload" issue is quite aggravating. I may have no other choice but to reset.
I will try waiting a couple days to see if somebody posts an easier fix.
Aha if you have a G2 wait till T-mobile gives it to us... we will be getting gingerbread
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Ok, good to see it isn't just me, it is definitely an issue and the reset doesn't seem to help much so if you havn't already done it don't bother localhost21. however I think I have found the main culprit and it seems to be the Google Maps updates that are causing the majority of the hanging etc.
if you remove the updates, i.e. go back to the standard version that came on the phone and it seems to make quite a difference so try that.
Unfortunately as i use the navigation function on maps quite a bit I kinda need to keep it so a bit of a catch 22. If you don't really need it though that should solve most of the problem... if any other fixes arrive let me know
Hopefully vodafone NZ give us the Gingerbread upgrade, or google brings navigation out of beta because it really is very good.
Edit: Still hangs, I have become a habitual killer of tasks which is nearly as annoying as the hanging, esp. if you have to open the task manager after it has hung, and it seems the processes causing the hang won't stay dead (auto-killed etc) *goes hunting for basic, stable, rom*
I encountered a new problem in that my notification sounds seem to randomly choose what to play when I recieve sms/calls so I did a hard reset but I still have that issue.
It also still hangs on the home screen if the k/b is open so hard reset doesn't fix this problem so I want to try a new rom
Has anyone done a root/flash yet with a HK Z?
I have a HTC Desire Z on the 2Degrees Network. I'm running Android version 2.2.1 Build numner is 1.84.708.1 CL322105 can I get an upgrade? Vheers.

Seems to have cured the wi-fi reconnection lag on my tab that came with the last firmware update.
Haven't seen any other differences yet.
OTA did not work for me. Updating with Kies, as I type.
I updated ota without issue. Also did not lose root, or at least apps that need root and super user still work the same. Seems smother but isn't that always the way. Hopefully browser will not crash like before, will see. Oh, and blazing fast, of course ;-)
installed, only thing I see different is market 3.4.4. This update did introduce the wifi reconnect problem that I have not had before this update. Sorry now I did it, will have to recoinoiter my position since the wifi bug is now included in this rom

Well, this update seems to have fixed the Wifi problems that came with the last update... It all seems quicker and tighter.
Sorry, I was wrong. After the tab has been asleep for awhile, Wifi has about a minute lag before kicking in. Same as before the update.

Mine is a US purchased P7510 - that's why I have been able to update it.
On the downside- the wi-fi reconnection lag has re-appeared after a couple of days. By that I mean - after the tab goes to sleep and is woken up by pressing the power button, it can take up to 30 seconds to reconnect to my wi-fi. If I go to settings and turn off wi-fi and then turn it back on again, it will reconnect in about 2 seconds. Weird ... but true ...
Stock Gallery performance seems a lot better to me.
Zooming large images is much faster and sharper.
btw. I didn't loose my root either

I have a uk tablet on O2. I did not get any notifications but when i plugged my tablet into my PC, i was prompted to update. Very unusual as O2 UK was always lagging on updates.
Sent from my SGP771 using Tapatalk
Z4T from Malaysia, rolling out Marshmallow early morning 10 March. Upgrading now.
I'm noticing speed increase here and there, and the tablet wakes up from sleep faster when I tap a key on the BKB50 keyboard
True. Its fast. And snappier. Battery seems to be doing better.
How about the touch sensitivity issue? Is it still there?

So far so good. def alot faster now.. even my connection went up..
Tablet bought in Germany but not used there, just got the 1.4 Gb MM update. (see you free space on internal memory before upgrading).
I have notice incredible speed after update but to be fair already there were alot of lag with the tablet (probably something I had installed ...). Apps now, start almost instant like it should on such specifications.
Can't say about battery yet but it seems the settings for saving went away and you could not activate saving other than at 5, 10 or 15 % battery.
A new setting on audio has appear DSEE HX, something that try to upgrade normal mp3 to HD sound quality. Activating this will deactivate ClearAudio+, dynamic normaliser ...) I didnt test it because I use flac uncompressed
Phone has change layout (subject to each person taste) and if you recorded an answer response on your answering machine you will lose it after upgrade (but you don't lose previous recorded messages)
I can confirm that wake up from power but mostly from keyboard (any key) is instant. After some time of inactivity it wakes slower but at practical interval to use (compared with before).
I love to set individual permissions since I have uninstall some apps because of "too generous" permission list.
Camera app: amazing UI upgrade. Where it was so cumbersome to use now is amazing easy to switch. Swipe up anywhere on the screen, can't comment on picture quality as I did;t test it.
I have also noticed less finger prints on the screen and less glare since the update! Amazing job SONY!
... just joking
Hi all,
Just updated my Z4 tablet (Generic Central Europe CE1) and as soon as I launched it for the first time, I encountered few issues. First of all, my SanDisk 128GB card initialized as corrupted. Gave it a try dismounting and mounting again a couple of times no luck and eventually ended up backing up the data on my netbook and reformatting it using the tablet running the Marshmallow. So far so good. Second and the most important of all, I experienced Google Play Store FCs and it still persists. Have been playing with it all day long trying almost everything: clearing both Google Play Services and Google Play Store as well as Google Framework cache, data and uninstalling all their updates rebooting the machine after each step still no luck. Removed my Google account and relogged again, didn't work. Also tried installing the latest version for both the Store and the Services still nothing. I literally have no clue now and am left with no idea at all what is going on?! I recall similar issue with my Z1 the other day but simply updating the Google Services solved the whole drama in an instant. I would be grateful if anyone could help me out with this neverending story.
Thanks in advance,
Jack

I'm on Customized SG R5C and it's running great. It has the usual bloatware but I've uninstalled it.
I got my tablet off Amazon UK and i'm still waiting for the update, same goes for my Z5. SI is 1294-9064 for Z4 tablet and 1298-2610 for Z5 phone.

I have SG. looking for EU in case if better as I moved in here and assuming there would be some smart apps specific to EU - unless ALL builds are same!
Anyone facing bugs in 6.0 on the tablet? My exchange pushmail was working in 5.0.2 but after 6.0, it doesn't connect to the server anymore. deleting and recreating and even nine mail or mailwise couldn't connect to the server. I initially thought it was the server that didn't support 6.0 so i borrowed another brand phone with 6.0 to test and it worked so it's due to Sony's version of the 6.0..

Yes, I faced a bug with my L2TP/PSK VPN-connection. This wouldn't work on 5.0.2 and it didn't work on 6.0 either. It's apparently a known issue on Xperia's, even the Z5 has it on MM.
Luckily, I was able to fix it by selecting Advanced Settings > Backward compatible mode: Enabled.
