[Q] Problems with flashing new firmware on Samsung I8700 Omnia 7 - Omnia 7 General

I can't seem to get my Omnia 7 to communicate with Win7 via USB cable in Download Mode. I use Win7 Pro x64.
I've installed:
I8700_Samsung_Mobile_USB_Driver(V5.2)_V1.2.1050.0
I run:
I8700_WP7_Downloader_Ver_7.03_For_Retail_Device_(Product_Force_Select)_
I've even tried uninstalling all Samsung USB drivers, reinstalling them and restarting my system, but I still can't get it to work.
When I start the WP7 Downloader, it says "MD5 Confirm Process: Cannot Image File Please Try Again!" in a dialog named "Confirm MD5 Value". What is that all about? There are no MD5 files in the firmware package that I've downloaded (I8700XXJJ4). If I click "Close", the application dialog opens, but I get no connection to the phone via a COM port.
What am I doing wrong?
[UPDATE!]
I got my Omnia 7 to connect by starting up the WP7 Downloader BEFORE I rebooted the phone into Download Mode. However, I'm still getting the "MD5 Confirm Process: Cannot Image File Please Try Again!" in a dialog named "Confirm MD5 Value". Please help!

Please post in the proper forums. If you have an issue related specifically to that device, please post it there. This is for WP7 development as a whole, and device specific problems go in their proper forums and subsections.
~~Tito~~

To flash, you have to start WP7 Downloader before you plug your Omnia 7 in download mode. And then you'll see a new COM port. (h**p://pdaphoneaddict.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=133&t=21328])
Be carefull : the XXJJ4 firmware seems not to work. It's not a valid binary retail file whereas the DTMJJ6 works fine. I'll flash my Omnia 7 one week ago. (]h**p://pdaphoneaddict.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=133&t=21326]) The DTMJJ6 is a T-Online branded ROM.
My Omnia 7 is a French Orange branded device and with the DTMJJ6, some features don't work anymore as data transfert without WiFi. It's the reason why I advise you to wait an other ROM. In my case I'm waiting for a dump of the original ROM or a new I8700XX.. files but still nothing...

firmware
where did you get the firmware or update, is it possible to get firmwares for other phones like the focus,

Please,
i have I8700XXJJ6 WITH CSC TMUJJ6, the phone is locked to T-mobile UK, and i'm downloading DTMJJ6, will this rom work, if yes, will the phone be unlocked ?
Thanks,
B.R.

It won't be unlocked with the new ROM...
Why do you want to change your JJ6 ROM for an other JJ6 one ?

The new ROM feels snappier due to the better 3g/wireless speeds and gets rid of the horrible tmobile branded IE and searches.
Over all definitely worth trying.

So it's the JK1 which is needed, not the JJ6.

to get it unlocked friend ! how can i do it ?

I'm having the same issue, but as far as i know, this problem is related due a replacement of the original download (yellow triangle warning screen) mode by a 'recover mode' (picture of an windows branded phone connecting to a pc).
Is there any other way to set the correct download mode besides using that jig device?
I got some response from the software setting 'Modem, USB Diag.' on the micro USB Test. When I did this, the phone was detected by WP7 Downloader, but the phone was in the wp7 home screen and not in download mode (I chose not try anything).
My Omnia 7 is an unlocked device using SFR branding (JJ6, that october one).

DanMaxis,
There might be a way without a jig. In principal you could try updating right through to nodo which would give you the new Bootloader that allows flashing.
What you have to do is "unbrand" your phone with the Samsung unbrand xap which can be found in the wp7 developer forum. (First or second page)
Of course you need to apply the chevron unlock for it.
After having done that you will be able to receive the pre Nodo update and then the Nodo update with the "cut connection after 4 seconds" trick.
After these updates are installed your bootloader should be the new one. This will in theory enable you to reflash a different rom onto it.
In theory... because I havent tried yet.
I encounter an error on my Omnia 7 that it timed out after the first update. This is a common issue among Samsung users (as has been reported all across the web) and the only way to fix it is to hard reset the phone.

Hi!
I updated my device (Omnia 7) to Nodo with the Chevron Tool but the Firmware (2424.10.10.6) and the bootloader (4.10.1.9) are still the same...
There's no new firmware yet?
With this bootloader I can't access to the downlaod mode... the jig is the only way?
Thank you very much!!!

I don't think the MD5 error relates to phone communication - I got this when I tried to open the update file from within a compressed folder - you have to extract the file that is downloaded to another folder then open it through the update tool. You'll also get an MD5 error if you enter the wrong password for the file.
The Control at the bottom left of the update tool window tells you if the phone is connected or not and is separate to actually opening the update files (turns green and says which Comm port the phone is on if the phone is connected properly).
Hope this helps.

Please how can i flash with the activesync doesn't notice my device and where's NVID Rom
Ok. I'll search for it but please help how can I flash it to the device which doesn't recognized or felt by PC
If your device is in bootloader mode, activesync cannot recognize it but this is normal. Jamin is recognize only as a usb device and you can downgrade it to NVID rom easly.
Then you could upgrade your favorite rom, I suggest PDAVIET 4.0.0.1
Bye for now

This is happen with the device is connected to the cable and the tricolor screen is flicking . and the device doesn't open doesn't flashing.
must use NVID rom. maybe qtek nvid one from here? http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Prophet_ROMs

If the problem still there, Try to release the battery for 1-3 hours and put it again to the device, go to the boot loader and pray. Hopefully it could work. Actually, this way worked on my Himalaya and Prophet.
Just run the "Step 1" component of the PDAViet ROM (http://rapidshare.com/files/32728615/Prophet_PDAViet_Step1.zip), which is just a plain AKU 2.20 NVID. This will find your device even if its in bootloader mode (it doesnt depend on activesync). Just flash it with that sucker and you should have a working phone on WM5, then you can safely upgrade it to WM6 (or leave it if you like).

Error 260... If i remember correctly that's "cant find device" or something.
Few things to check:
Is the PC you are upgrading on running windows vista?
If so, use a different PC running windows XP.
Have you tried a different USB cable?
If not, do so, this tends to be the cause of problems like this.
Have you checked device manager?
Go to control panel, Administrative tools, computer management, device manager and see if you can find your device. If it has a yellow ! icon on it or is listed as "Unknown device" or anything like that then you may need to reinstall the drivers (int hsi case the easiest way to do that is to reinstall activesync). If everyhting is working properly it should show up as "HTC USB Sync", "PocketPC USB Sync" or something like that under the heading "Mobile Devices".
Have you just plain tried another computer, regardless of the OS?
I found that I could never get my phone to flash on my laptop, but it worked without a problem on my desktop. This is not to say laptop's cant do it, it simply means some computers just have problems like (in my case i believe) no USB 2.0, or too low-powered USB ports.

[Q] Returning to original firmware (HTC Magic)

Hi,
I have a HTC Magic (32A)(Rogers) with some custom Hero firmware. Since I bought the phone used with it I don't exactly know what firmware this is, but it's 1.5 Android.
As there is an official 2.1 firmware for the Rogers HTC Magic I would like to that one rather than another custom firmware.
I have installed HTC Sync and the official firmware .exe install. It recognizes the phone to be correct (even though it has a Hero rom on it) and wants to reboot the phone for the install. However that pops up the fastloader with "RUU USB" in orange. None of the buttons allow me to select that or do anything else and after a while the installer just times out.
Do you guys know how I can get around that fastloader issue?
Many thanks in advance!

At this link do the part titled "Enabling the Windows 7 automatic driver update" then plug the phone into a USB port with fastboot loaded.
-or-
Follow these steps, the phone should show up under "Other devices" in Device Manager.
EDIT: Wrong forum for this topic BTW. This should be posted in General.
I managed to get the driver installed, but the official RUU installer won't find the phone when it's in the fastboot USB. What am I doing wrong?
I'm trying to use the offical RUU installer from the HTC website. Is that even possible?

I think you should reflash your phone in order to get it work.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943714 and download your compatible rom, then reboot it into bootloader (Power + Volume Down), connect to PC, and reflash ^^
Hope it help
Thank you for your concern, but How am I supposed to figure out what type of ROM I need if I have no access to my phone to see? Haha

Use the Cingular ROM. I flashed my Surround from AT&T and it went OK, the ROM reverted to 7004. After that you can unlock your phone using ChevronWP7, use the fix to prevent it from re-locking again and then update to NoDo.
The rapidshare link from Ansar's post is down. I uploaded the Cingluar ROM to multiupload so you can fix your phone. Download it.
The instructions to flash your phone are as follow:
1. Unzip your downloaded *.zip file in a separate folder
2. Press and hold power-on/off button to power-off the phone
3. Press and hold volume-down button and then press power-on/off button to enter bootloader mode
4. When your phone enters the tricolor screen bootloader mode, release volume-down button
5. Connect your phone to your windows 7/vista/xp pc/laptop with a usb cable
6. Verify that your phone will be identified and relevant drivers will be installed by windows os of your pc/laptop
7. After completion of (6.) above, check the usb message connection on your phone screen
8. To flash the new ROM go to your pc/laptop folder of (1.) above
9. Double click on the ROMUpdateUtility.exe file and strictly follow the instructions on your pc/laptop screen

Please remember not to interrupt the flashing process! Do not disconnect the phone or play with it while it's being flashed. Try avoid using your computer at all and close all other applications before starting.

I'm pretty much a noob too, I just learnt a thing or two in the past few weeks
You will have no problems at all with your carrier if you flash your AT&T phone using the Cingular ROM. The SIM-lock will stay the same as it is (either locked or unlocked,) the phone will return to its factory settings.
Being restored to its factory settings will mean that you'll get the updates through Zune when AT&T decides it's time for you to get them. You can, however, unbrand your phone to receive the updates almost as soon as they're released. Remember that you'll need to "developer unlock" your phone before you can unbrand it.
I have my SIM-unlocked Surround on Movistar (Argentina carrier) and I can get the updates through Zune after unbranding it. No Chevron Updater or other hacks to get the updates.
Thank you guys for your help <3 I Actually just went and traded it in for another one If this happens again I will use this method Thank you much!

Reflashing stock att rom

I have an HTC Surround that I cant get to boot past htc logo and if i try to hard rest it goes to spl screen. Where can i get the software to reflash it. I also have another microsd that i can change out if that is bad
still working on
So I replaced the mirco sd and tried to do the restore using the power and volume buttons and still would not get it to try and boot more then a few secs and stop at the htc screen. I also flashed the stock att rom that I got off xda but still no luck. My last chance is trying a new battery today are there any more suggestions
My surround did the same thing recently. It's a problem surrounds have. Unfortunately you have tried the 3 most common solutions.
1: reflash with stock rom
2: Change out sd card
3: hard reset
The only way I know of to get a working one after you have tried those 3 things is hope it's under warranty. :-/

Where did you get that stock at&t rom? I've been all through the developer section and all I see are telus and cingular roms. I've got a phone from the shop that's stuck on the htc logo and replacing the sd card hasn't fixed it. I tried to flash a telus rom because hey what the hell do I have to lose but RUU wasn't able to establish an ActiveSync connection on the htc logo screen looping repeatedly. Is there a way to force it into a sort of download mode from the htc logo to do the flashing from?

i'm guessing this should work:
C. Windows Phone 7 ROM Flashing Instructions
Do You still need help about this?
Basically you need to download DFT_RSPL_WP7FG2_LAUNCH from this forum, this will allow you to flash a custom rom. The ROM installed at the phone must be a NODO one because mango roms updates the loader and are not compatible.
For apply it you must put the phone on loader. Connect the phone to the usb, turn it off, turn it on but holding volume down key.
Once there you will see the 3 color screen and will say USB run the DFT_RSPL_WP7FG2_LAUNCH and follow the steps.
The phone will restart and showing again the 3 color screen but with HSPL now you can install DFT ROM. DFT ROM is basically a custom Windows Phone with the option to sideload apps you just run ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the DFT ROM downloaded and it will upgrade your OS to DFT Version.
Now what? SPL too high!
My brothers HTC surround has crashed, and fails to load the OS. i can get to the bootloader, but it's
spl-4.2.2250.1 (129185) MNG
i've got HSPL and RSPL, but they say DON'T TRY IF NOT 1.X SPL OR IF IT SAYS MNG. his says both. he was running mango, and i'm just trying to reinstall a stock rom. I'm wondering what advice any of you might have. I've reinstalled roms on Samsung devices, but not on an HTC, so i'm not sure what all this is about, or what the consequences are of proceeding. any help would be great.
Thanks dudes.
bump?
please?
Is it 1/2 bricked?
If you connect the device to a PC does it go to USB mode? At teh red blue green screen does it say USB at the bottom?
USB
It does display USB. If i leave it on for like an hour, eventually, i just discovered, windows DOES load, and it says "your memory is corrupt" it does connect to the computer, and it is detected by my pc, and it does display USB. I'm going to try to put in a new SD card, but i'm wondering once i do that, will i be able to flash the retail rom to it, with that spl.
thanks!
Check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597837.I believe you will have to downgrade your bootloader. I haven't tried this yet myself, I hope it helps you out.

Omnia 7 update problem

Hi,
I can't update my Omnia 7 with Zune anymore after the Mango update.
My Omnia 7 is Orange UK branded.
SO: 7.10.7720.68
Firmware 0222.11.8.5
Hardware 3.15.0.4
Radio 2424.11.7.2
Bootloader 5.8.1.9
SOC 0.36.2.0
Before all: after the Mango update I noticed that any compass software works as the bluetooth, I can't pair my bluetooth headset.
Now I received a push notification that a new software update is available, I tried to do it with Zune, but step 7 (install upgrade) doesn't works as in past (the progress bar increase slowly). After some seconds Zune reset the phone and after the boot Zune says: error 80180048.
I found a solution from Microsoft, using the "Windows Phone Support Tool", but it can't connect to hte phone, it says:
The phone is not in the 'Connect to PC' state. Please make sure that you follow the instructions and your phone shows the 'Connect To PC' image
Instead I turn on the phone with camera button pressed and I can see the "Connect to PC" image on the phone.
I also tried to use the recovery tool from Samsung (downloadable from the Samsung support website), I enter in download mode (camera + vol up + power on buttons) and the program seems to do its job, but anything change during upgrades...
I read in Microsoft Answer forum that it could be a faulty bootloader problem,
can anyone help me? Thanks
L.
I have the same firmware revision numbers as yourself. (I'm on Orange UK Branded) except i'm now on .7740
When you plug into Zune, what update is offered to you? Is it listed as offering Outlook bug fixes and Voicemail bug fixes?
Or does it say it's a Samsung update for windows phone?
Hi,
thanks for your reply.
Yes, Zune offer 7740 update, with Outlook bug fix, ...
But do bluetooth and compass work on your phone?

Bluetooth used to work well... since Mango / 7720 it stopped working properly. Now it only reliably connects if i turn WiFi off. Otherwise it will search and find once.. then never again until i soft-reset.
Compass... it's hit and miss. I've tried a few apps and i can't get them to calibrate so no.. not really.
It seems everyone else has been offered a firmware upgrade apart from Orange :/ I don't get why I was sent out the 7740 fix and left on old firmware.
As far as your problem with updating go, did you try the simple fixes of plugging directly into a USB2 port at the back of the PC not using an extension.
And also I always delete all I can from my phone before I upgrade it. On my 8gb phone I don't leave more than 2gb data on it to update and it's been fine for me so far... I just remove things like music and movies as they are easy to re-sync quickly afterwards.
If not i've read of people having that bug resolved with a hard-reset. Although that's annoying for you :/
I tried to connect the phone on a USB port on the PC back, but I've the same problem.
I also hard reset my phone some days ago, but it didn't solve my problem.
...Zune doesn't perform step 8 (installing), now I'm sure it's cause the phone can't enter correctly in download mode.
...I'm annoyed at Orange and Samsung.

Hmm :/ I know i had a faulty bootloader version.. i couldnt get into download mode. I had to use a resistor jig.
However when i got mango my bootloader changed and it works now. Can you not enter download mode at all?
I can enter in download mode using the 3 buttons combo (cam + vol up + power), and using the 2 buttons (cam + power), the download mode you enter with the jig connector isn't the same of the buttons combo?
Btw neither if Zune enter in download mode nor if I manually enter with buttons combo to use "Windows Phone Support Tool" I can flash the phone. Zune return error 80180048, the other program says "The phone is not in the 'Connect to PC' state. Please make sure that you follow the instructions and your phone shows the 'Connect To PC' image".

No it should be the same. Download mode shows a yellow triangle.
Conect to Pc mode just shows the cable/laptop image as it does when you update the phone.
I'd guess that since you can enter bootloader / download mode that's not the issue...
I'm with you on the whole Annoyed with Samsung though.. Bring on my upgrade and a Nokia!

same problem today with attempted update to 7740
Zune told today that 7740 available and update installed fine. Also got tethering update week ago. Unbranded retail phone.
Sent from my OMNIA7 using Board Express
Same problem for me. Trying to troubleshoot now.
Edit: Tried troubleshooting with @WinPhoneSupport, but no resolution. They're now "looking into the error": https://twitter.com/#!/WinPhoneSupport/status/142341050084769792
the same problem. I have mango with "wrong" czech language (edit in registry for activate it). Do you think this is the reason of failed update?

I can't be sure, but I doubt it. I haven't activated any languages.
I've just noticed this error has been reported from a user with an HTC HD7 as well, so it's not isolated to the Omnia.

Hi,
I can't update my Omnia 7 with Zune anymore after the Mango update.

Same problem here. Only difference for me is :-
Firmware 2424.11.9.4
Radio 2424.11.9.1
Bootloader 5.9.3.0
Newer versions than yours but still the same problem.
It's not a big problem now as the phone works great and the update is only minimal.
Omnia 7 - same problem
Hi Guys ,
I have a Samsung Omnia 7 with this details :
OS :7.10.7720.68
Firmware 2424.11.9.4
Radio 2424.11.9.1
Bootloader 5.9.3.0
I have the same problem when trying to update to 7740 . Error : error 80180048.
I tried with Zune and with WP7 update cab tool .
Have you found a way to make this working ?
Or the only whay is to put another rom( with NODO) on the phone and try to do all the updates .
Thanks,
Claudiu
Since you tried reset your phone, why not flash an other rom?maybe an unbranded rom can help
