Psx4droid Compatibility Thread Droid on HD2 - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi all,
I did a search and noticed there wasn't a thread dedicated to Psx4droid users on the HD2 running android. So i decided to start one, to list the games I have tried so far.
(btw, I have a nexus one also and these games didnt want to run on my nexus one and they ran fine on my HD2. =] )
Im running FroyoStone Sense 3.2.7
ChuckyDroidRom
Psx4droid 1.7
16gb class 2 memory card.
Brave Fencer Musashi- Ran pretty decent (.bin)
Mega Man Legends - Ran pretty decent (.bin)
Rival Schools - Lags (.bin)
Remember sharing is caring =D.

seriously no1 else is running psx4droid on their hd2?

I have a few games that I have been playing. I think the biggest problem with this is people really don't want to affiliate themselves with potentially illegal activities.
Anyway here is my list:
Final Fantasy VII: Runs ok, better with audio disabled
Final Fantasy Tactics: Runs great
Gran Turismo 2: So laggy pretty much unplayable
Einhander: Plays fine
Xenogears: Plays fine
Chrono Cross: Plays fine

I just boot back to WM and use fpsece. Much better speed and compatibility

xenogears? really ? how far have you gotten in that game so far?? no problems??
the fpsce emulator looks sweet and all. but what about on screen control? I have only read great reviews with the msi bluetooth gaming controller.

Fpsece has better on-screen controls than psx4droid.... much more customizable. Or you can just use a ps3 controller.

Hey guys, good news, the newest vr, 1.7 released a few days ago, has fixed ffvii sound issues, it sounds perfect!
Was like playing a different game with out the right battle ending music.

Currently using BluTopia v.6
PSX 1.7
Playing Breathe of Fire IV with audio studder sometimes. Havent been able to figure why yet. I 've downloaded xenogears, but that lags like hell. Still trying to get accustomed to the on screen controls.

Its absolute crap, all the games that work perfectly on Fpsece, dont work on psx4droid. It is a big joke, total waste of time im affraid.

It makes sense that fpsece would have better compatibility.... its been developed for what? 8 years now I believe. Psx4droid only for maybe 8 months.

I don't think it's the illegal they are worried about, it's the fact that it's a touch screen phone without hardware game button which kills the fun...for me anyway...

its true that fspce has been around for along time. I remember loading ff7 on my dell axim pda. 500mhz at the time. Psx4droid is actually running almost all the games im throwing at it. except GT2, it gets stuck at the disclaimer screen.

I've been experiencing some very nasty fps frops on alundra and other games no matter what build I used (nand,sd). Is it like this for everyone? Also a lot of touchscreen problems like buttons randomly pressed etc

I've got V3 for PSX4Droid and I'm having a few issues with Metal Gear Solid, she's a bit slow, slow framerate and stuttering sound, anyone else have experience with this?

Games for Galaxy?

Hey guys, where can I get some nice games for the new toy? On Android Market there aint' that much, and on the Samsung Store the only one available is Asphalt 5.
Where do you people go to look for games? I've seen a lot of videos with people testing N.o.v.a. on the Galaxy S but where did they get it?
http://www.gameloft.com, I downloaded the motorola Droid versions since there are no Galaxy versions. Workin just fine. Downloaded NOVA and Modern Combat: Sandstorm there.

if you have other suggestions, please share them!
How do u find gaming in GalaxyS? Is the sensor accurate?
I'm concerned since I really like playing in the Iphone and I hope its as much fun
You can always use an emulator like gameboid and others to emulate everything from nes to gba games, I find that a gba game offers a lot more depth than the average ios/android game, also brings back the feeling from the old days .
The gaming experience is really smooth on the Samsung. This is where the superamoled really is good. I think there are som vids on youtube where a galaxy runs nova and modern combat. Might want to check those out

can you please confirm if gameboid works and the SNES emulator? i heard it doesnt pick up the roms properly.......
ZUMA would look nice on this phone
GameBoid not working for me, at leat it didn't the one time it installed before I had to factory reset the phone again (stupid download unsuccessful error - can't install apps!).

It appears it doesnt work properly, atleast gameboid doesnt, hangs after I select the rom (it shows the image where I last saved and hangs there with distorted sounds, however the application still works, I can still press menu and go to settings etc). It did work fine on my htc desire before, so I'm gonna try some things to make it work.
The snes emulator works great, played mario kart the other day.
the gba one doesn't however
Anyone else find asphalt 5 doesnt have a particularly good fps? raging thunder 2 and all the other games seem to be 60fps. Looking forward to games to start using ogl 2.0
Asphalt 5 is not really optimized, it performs horribly on pretty much every device out there.
The motorola droid runs is pretty well, but ONLY the droid.
As for the rest of the games- Everything that works on the droid/milestone will work on the Galaxy S
All current mobile processors are based on Cortex A8 with ARMv7 instruction sets, and both devices contain SGX series 5 graphics. The difference between 530 and 540 doesn't really matter, pretty much the same driver.
My guess is that after 1 or two firmware updates for the device things will be running a hell of a lot smoother.
Give it some time, the nexus and droid also had some childhood sickness untill stuff started running perfectly.
asphalt runs sweet as a nut on my galaxy s. so does raging thunder
Toonwarz looks like its running pretty well...
i like bridge, solitair and quake, also search for chromatatron.. laser puzzle logic games i like a lot.
Did someone have the chance to check out H.A.W.X?
And generally, the galaxy S should be pretty much a gaming beast, with the large 4" screen which is probably the best in the market right now, and SGX540, which is the strongest GPU around, untill the snapdragon 8672 sees light (and might still be the strongest even after that)
Tested and verified games and fullscreen..
Asphalt 5
Tower Bloxx
Tangram Pro (love this game..)
Flight Frenzy
The Game of Life
Surviving High School
New York Nights 2 (nice but not full screen though.. for 3.5 - 3.7 screen)
Bonsai Blast
Katamari Mobile (love this game..)
Mechanics Touch
Sally's Spa
The Gube - 3D Rubik's Cube
..still testing others.. it is very tiring to install and uninstall the games even when using ASTRO. hehehe
I have a ton of games installed on my Galaxy S.

Evo as gaming device

I was curious as to how many are using their Evo as a gaming device as well as its other uses. I started off playing some of the simple arcade and puzzle style games but I have recently been playing a couple of fps games from gameloft and I realize that there is a lot of potential for the evo if the developers will continue with it.
I'm playing home run battle 3d and a couple of other games.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yeah I have been playing quite a bit of old NES games with nesoid.
CM6 + wiimote + wii steering wheel + gps dash mount + dremel + gorilla glue = emulator fun. I have been mostly playing old SNES games, but I have a 40 minute bus ride to & from work so I have to kill the time somehow.
Until I saw the demo for NOVA and Sandstorm I never realized that 3d gaming had come so far for android. Those are the 2 main games that I am playing right now.
It's perfect for RPG's which is my favorite type of games. Play final fantasy tactics as we speak. I never owned a ps1 myself so theres a lot of rpg games for me to play.
Am I the only who likes Meteor Blitz? It's just about my favorite handheld game of all time! Like a Geometry Wars mobile.
PSXDroid is pretty nice. I continually encounter graphical glitches though, which is utterly annoying.
SandStorm is neat, Nova is a fun FPS as well. Pretty much most of Gamelofts releases are enjoyable. Well, minus Assassin's Creed.
There's a guy working on Starcraft for Android, but I think the projects gone dead in the water.
Finally, Quake III on Android. Or, Kwaak3
Also, this may not be the best place to post anything about iOS, because I know quick people can be to hate on the iPhone. But Steve Jobs aside, who else is impressed by Epic Game's Infinity Blade and Mutant Bash TV by Id running on the Rage iOS engine?
I'm totally floored by it to be honest. Had no idea a 1GHz processor with 512MB RAM could achieve graphics on this level.
It's only a matter of time before a company creates an engine like this for Android Devices. Development is either already in the works or right around the corner.
*Cough* PSP Phone *Cough*
The prospects are incredible! The only thing that bugs me is that I use to play my old GameBoys till the battery died when I was out and about. It will just really suck if I do the same with my EVO. That would put my day dead in the water if I didn't have a back up battery or wall outlet near by....
I am waiting patiently for oooecao to release their games!

Those iOS games are insane, I can't wait till we have them on Android. Epic has already demoed their Unreal Engine on Android so we will definitely have some sick games coming soon.
BTW, what ROM/theme are you running in the pic in your sig?

I know, they just need to come out with a decent controller for handheld devices. I almost want to go out and pick up a WiiMote just for my EVO. I have a PS3 controller but I've read that it will probably never happen because of technicalities with bluetooth between the two. I use my PS3 Controller to play Halo on my Netbook, so much fun! Makes airplane flights a breeze.
Just put a vice grip on a pad with a few buttons and put on a MicroUSB connector with an input on the pad for charging and call it done.
I keep reading about people whom have tested some of these Rage iOS games complaining that the controls blow. Especially Mutant Bash TV, it's tilt shift. I mean REALLY!? I tend to get p'd off at DoodleJump, let alone an FPS.
Stock ROM, unREVOked. Theme is custom.
Better off with a epic, you got the keyboard for controls and better GPU.
which is my problem... I don't use my phone for gaming, so it has no use for me lol

Lol, 4 of my friends recently jumped on to the Epic from TP2's (we all get the same phones, its kinda wierd) But i have an Evo. I play games on mine and its pretty good, but i tell them that games play better on the Epic due to the GPU/CPU and none of them play games, haha.
I got the usual great android games on plus, snesoid, nesoid, gensoid, psx4droid. The emulators are much better when rooted with a kernel that allows for better multi touch,(I'm currently on kings bfs11). I have hundreds games just between the emulators. I would consider psx4droid unplayable unless u had such a kernel. The biggest problem with playing the games is the lack of better multi touch, and thats y I will never b unrooted again.
Swyped from my Evo
they need to change up the controllers. Instead of using the forward, back, left, right motions on the screen, use the gyroscope to do those, and then in the left hand have the movement of the gun, and in the right hand, have the shooting or w/e.
Has anyone here tried Heavy Gunner?
I've been on a real gaming spree ever since I got the Evo!
Super K.O Boxing is really nice
SpeedX 3D is my favorite!
N.O.V.A was a b*t*h to get working, but it's by far the most graphically intense game.
Caligo Chaser is alright if you like more cartoony RPGs. The best part of the game is that when you adjust your gear it visually reflects on the character, lots of choices too!
Fruit Ninja is a fun, friendly style, potentially competitive style game
I just tried Meteor Blitz, thanks for the recommendation! I do wish the movement controls were less sensitive however.
Android is a fantastic platform for gaming, unfortunately it's not the only one and developers are limited
I tried a couple of the emulators but the game rom's I downloaded showed the game on a tiny screen and the controls did not work well at all. I guess I need to try some different games roms. Sandstorm is as graphically intensive as NOVA if not more so. I tried Avatar but the gameplay was a little confusing for me at times. Bottom line is that android is a great gaming platform and the Evo is a good hard device for gaming. I have a kindle and a zuneHD and was getting ready to get a psp. Now the Evo is truly an all in one device for me. It will do what all of those will do. Sure it uses a lot of battery but I would rather switch batteries during the day than to cary 3 or 4 devices and chargers when I travel.
MMORPG: Pocket Legends. That thang was just released today.
?
so why is it so hard to get Need for speed shift? why not in the market? why are there no good games in the market? on my old iphone i played many awesome games like nfsshift, street fighter 4, fifa soccer, chaos rings most of all Grand theft Auto chinatown wars. when i look in the market, there a bunch of crappy games, i mean common no words with friends or scrabble or bejeweled? my opinion, get a 64 gb ipod touch, you get your games and great music integration with itunes, plus 32gb extra possible storage. and its thin. i love my evo but no-matter what mods i do to it its not good at graphic intensive stuff, i cant even run the ocean waves wallpaper without it choppin like Jackie chan.
p.s. also looked for pocket legends, nothing in market for that either

Gun Bros Not Too Smooth

I was just wondering if anyone has played this on the NC
I originally started playing on my Samsung fascinate and it was super smooth
It runs and everything on the NC, but it seems a little choppy at times and just not that smooth overall.
So is this a hardware limitation? Or is something about my configuration off?
I'm running the latest CM video test build currently, but I was on build 31 and 32 as well with the same issue.
On the OC kernel, at 1100, interactive
Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.
I played on Nookie froyo 0.6.8, get not smooth in menus, store..... but smooth enough in playing.
I know what you are talking about and its a hardware limit.
Ok, I figured. yea it's really not that bad when during the game, but it's definitely not as smooth as it was on the phone.
Thanks for the feedback
i have the same problem. but it's playable...
The nook was not produced as a 3D Game plateforme, the GPU is like 5 year old comparing to Samsung Galaxy S.
But if i compare some 3D games (or n64oid), they run smoother than on my HTC Desire wich has a really poor GPU..
Gun bros is laggy period(why would a simple menu be laggy?), ghurilla bob is a way better game and runs extreemly smooth even when theres a ton of people on screen thats supporting HD , this comes to show u the nook.can handle good graphics,
One thing to keep in mind when comparing to a phone - Our nook is running the game at 1024x600, compared to most phones running at 800x480. The difference may not seem like much, but it might suprise ya; Our screen is 614400 pixels, compared to 384000. This 1.6x pixel increase is a big load on our GPU's (the same as in the Droid X and Droid 2)...
For me gun bros never ran faster than 20 fps in game and like 7 fps in the menus.
I made it through about 10 waves then gave up. The combination of all on screen controls plus lag was to much to take.
Side note: what version of gun bros are you guys running and where did you get it? Since it is 'not compatible with our device'(due to in-app billing i would guess) it is not in the market. The one I am running claims to be ver. 1.5 and I was very surprised that Gun Bros had xga files ready to go, since the xoom would be the only released device that could use it, unless they have the android version downloading files from the same place as the ios version.

Don't know about anyone else, but I got mine via the Amazon App Store.
runs good for me
i'm running cm7 with latest tab tweaks at 1100 oc'd and gun bros runs like a champ for me. yeah the menus are a little laggy, but they did that on my droid x too. the game itself runs full-bore with no lag at all.
btw, that game is SO much more fun on the bigger screen, and i thought it was the best before!
my version allows in-app purchases and that part seems to work just fine. it installed and downloaded without a hitch from the market. i reinstalled using the latest version about three days ago and used mybackup pro to restore game data that i copied over from my x when i swapped to a t-bolt.
one note, you have to be rooted to restore your game data because the game stores the info in /system.

I was playing Gun Bros (1) multiplayer edition, latest version as of this wriiting. I have a quad core 1.5ghz cpu and and a likely single core GPU PowerVR. Some zombie shooter games ann Guerilla Bob work fine. After wave 8 or so in gunbros, it stutters every 6 to 10 seconds and one or more touch controls stop working so I have take my fingers off the screen and try again. My bro dies quickly! :crying: I will try Gun bros 2 and see what happens. Cheers mate.

[Q] Good Turned Based RPG

Well I got my Play and got Eternal Legacy, which I beat today [Graphics were great, story was terrible, was also too short and lastly the ending was disappointing, or better yet - Non Existent].
So, now I need a new turned based RPG. I have noticed that all the good RPGs [and games generally] are on the Iphone with no android ports.
Can anyone suggest a good turn based RPG. Please don't say emulators, because the PlayStation emulators still can't get the games to run smoothly anyway. It's hard to go back to PlayStation graphics after playing Eternal Legacy.
Someone suggested Golden Sun 2 for Gamboid, however, I tied it and the sound is choppy [just like FPse] and it always restarts after the long text intro right when the characters appear on the screen for the first time.
Final fantasy 7 works great for me on fpse. Best RPG ever
I knew someone was going to come on here and say that..Final Fantasy 7 does not work properly on the Play, that's why there is a bounty on cracking the code of native psx emulator on the Play so that games can be played using it. Final Fantasy 7 on FPse is a miserable experience in terms of audio and it slows down a bit, far from "great." And like I said, after playing Eternal Legacy, or just generally speaking, it's hard to go back to PlayStation 1 graphics. Playstation 2 Fine, 1...nononono....
If you don't want to rely on emulation, Symphony of the Eternity looks like a valid starting point, though it's not optimized for the gamepad. However, good stories are hard to find anywhere, and sometimes a further problem lies on bad translations (Zenonia's case).
Forget those games get fpse and a rom called chrono cross.
If you own the game in the past of course.
Sent from my R800a using XDA Premium App
Yeah I would def play Chrono Cross, it got a very good review from IGN and I loved Chrono Trigger, once again it's just that FPse has not been able to run ANY game smoothly [ie without sound or graphics problems] so I am a bit reluctant... As for Symphony of the Eternity, I guess I could try that, though it's hard to go back to those sort of graphics after just completing Eternal Legacy.
Oh by the way symphony of the eterinty is optimized for the play, i was just playing it. It controls with the plays directional arrows etc.
jdz...I know fpse isn't perfect, but the three games I play right now (Nectaris: Military Madness...which is an AWESOME turn-based strategy game, Castlevania:Symphony of the Night, and Destruction Derby) all run flawlessly or next to flawlessly so there are some that are there or really close to perfect. I highly recommend Nectaris if you're a fan of the genre. Playstation graphics obviously but if you can get past that you'll love the gameplay.
thanks for the reply/advice, will check them out.
I can't find Eternal Legacy on the android market, am I missing something?

There's no slowdowns at all, only slight oddities in the sound, no where near unplayable.
Honestly it's hard to find good new rpg's on any platform.

You have done somthing wrong to your play then m8 FF7 8 and 9 all run perfect for me with no slowdowm and perfect sound, i let my brother run around coral for a bit in FF7 and his responce was "wow this runs better than it did on the playstation"

It's not "optimized" for the Xperia Play so you have to download a version from gamelofts website thats made for the snapdragon processors.
Two words: Spectral Souls
It got everything, story, graphics, xperia optimized... etc
IGN gave spectral Souls a bad review:
http://psp.ign.com/articles/742/742395p1.html
It turns out that the bad score was given mainly due to the long and frequent loading moments. If that is not an issue on Android, and it doesn't have to be if they did a good job, then it may make sense. But, man, 10 euro for a ported-to-phone game... it's hard to justify.

If you read the review they gave it a lower score because of loading issues, which is no longer an issue in the Android version.
The game is pretty good all around. Not spectacular, but still good.

On your phone it takes 5.77MB and downloads a gig worth of data to your SD card.
If you are a fan of that style of game play (final fantasy tactics, disgaea) then this game will be right up your alley.
Story-wise so far for me it has been average, not as good as FFT, but it's decent enough. It provides a way to play both sides of the storyline, so that adds to the overall enjoyment.
I didn't mind paying 1200 yen for this game. It shows it has a lot more production value than the average mobile game.
What really surprises me is that Android doesnt havent more quality RPGS, I mean mobile devices should be a haven for turned based RPGs because they are actually easy to control with the touch screen. Why is it that more big "well known" RPGs are not on android? Why for example is their a Final Fantasy game on Android? It's on 360 and PS3, so it's not to say that it's an exclusive title to one of the consoles. Come on, esp for a device like the Xperia Play, Sony should be well aware that this device could be the RPG gamers dream come true.

Ppsspp emulator settings

Has anyone else tried the ppsspp emulator? I loaded Wipeout Pure and after changing a few setting, the best I get is a slightly slow version with no sound and frame skipping. That was the most playable I could get it. When I first loaded it it was total slow motion. Wipeout is a confirmed working game for this emu so I'm interested to see what settings combos people may have found that work for the OUYA.

I wouldn't expect PPSSPP to run smoothly on Mobile processors anytime soon if at all
Getting decent performance is still a challenge for PC users as the emulator is still in its early stages

PPSSPP is cool, but little more than a proof of concept at this point. It's hardly playable on any platform.

I wouldn't expect PPSSPP to run smoothly on Mobile processors anytime soon if at all
Getting decent performance is still a challenge for PC users as the emulator is still in its early stages

Thanks folks. I hope to some day be able to run wild with some WipeOut. I'll keep an eye on the devs progress and repost if we see some headway in the future.

Was messing around with this app last night. No luck getting any games to run smoothly, however I do see some potential. Tried both god of war games and they were very choppy. Only the movies within the game played fine. Dragonball Budokai ran pretty decent but the sound was off. Burnout had no music and was very choppy. Call of Duty starts but than goes to a black screen. You can hear the music but nothing else.
Tweaked the settings quit a bit but just couldn't get any to play right. Hopefully, they can get this up and running on the Ouya.
Not all games play slow. Here is a list so far that play fine (smooth with sound) on my Excite 7.7, TF300, Nook HD+ and S4.
Burnout Dominator
Guilty Gear Judgment
Hotshots Open Tee
Namcom Battle Museum
Lumins 1 (not 2)
Star Soldier
Street Fighter Alpha 3 remix
Guilty Gear XX
Megaman Powerup
Metal Slug XX
Blaz Blue (both games)
Need for Speed Carbon
NeoGeo Shooter (it is a shootemup with different NeoGeo characters)
Full Auto 2
I actually own the PSP games to compare to, except NeoGeo shooter. For some reason, it would not work on my PSP when I tried it out and local Disc Replay gamestore.
More games do not work than do, but I was impressed enough to contribute. There are some others that work, but I have most on my tablets and only a few on my S4- going by memory of what does.
The forums seem to have a thread going for hints on how to improve speeds: http://forums.ppsspp.org/showthread.php?tid=5236
Some games need Buffered Rendering.
Some games have no sound unless you download the unofficial atrac3 library from within the app.
The topic started on May, when the version in the stores was 0.8.1. Checked for updates since then? Last version in the store is 0.9.1, and last version on git is 0.9.1.2xx.
I've noticed a huge speed boost from setting the frame buffer to the gpu, some games are actually playable although the full 3d ones are still at about 65%. Hopefully the official ouya release will work better.
I haven't tried it on my OUYA, but one of my friends said using a PSP emulator and connecting his OUYA to a projector was a winning combination.
I have tried PPSSPP on my NVIDIA Shield (Tegra 4) and at first I was skeptical about it - audio was choppy and performance wasn't great in some situations, but then like the next day there was an update to PPSSPP and since then it has been running phenomenal (at least on the games I care about). I love using the "Unthrottle" feature to essentially fast forward the game too
So if you haven't tried it in a while you might give it another go. Shield is of course more powerful than OUYA, but you might at least have better results than before.

I play ppsspp on my phone with my friends all the time multiplayer It's cool and runs fast
I installed ppsspp on my samsung galaxy note 4. And it's absolutely amazing. Played tekken 6 in full 60 fps. But Wipeout pulse is lagging in some parts of the racing track (always at the same places. The framerate is constantly at 40 fps then, but the game runs really slow. Doesn't matter what settings I apply
