Booting custom kernels..this guy needs help!! - Droid X General

Hey guys I saw this post strolling around on the internet. Maybe one of our fine devs could help this ambitious guy out..
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-hacks/93955-getting-custom-kernels-running-droid-x.html

freaking sweet ! spread this !

Very interesting! Might want to move this thread (or a copy of?) into the Droid X development section.

For a minute there it looked hopeless..but it seems like this guy is really working hard on this. He has found the problem.. apparently the issue is not kenex but drivers. He needs help from someone that has experience with coding drivers...COME ON guys WE CAN DO IT! Lets get all the milestone and droid x devs on this!

This thread was mentioned in one of the threads on development. I hope he's successful, but I'd be surprised if he succeeded.

This guy needs DZO! DZO is a genius with a PhD in computer science. He's the one that pioneered Android on the HTC Vogue (a WinMo phone) and made it possible for all the other winmo htc's to get android. he rewrote all the drivers and such to work with those phones and I'm sure he is smart enough to do this. However, he lives in new zealand i believe and therefore cannot really get an X. Hopefully something can work out.

I think if he said that he said that he would work on the dx then we could get enough donations together to get him a dx. I don't think he would have to have access to the Verizon network to test wether or not the radio is working.

There are various people working on it in different forums outside of xda. There is supposedly leaked source code out in the wild and there is a person working on some kind of non-HTC gold card type of exploit. Google "Root Motorola Cliq" and you'll see the various threads around covering this. Unfortunately there is no dedicated site yet like the Droid has to pool information to form a collective brain trust for this project . Hopefully there will be something for Cliq owners with in the next couple of weeks. Maybe sooner if that source code pans out. (crossing fingers)
factory restore image (dreamimg.nbh) equivilent?
I read a post from a guy (here I think) that stated he had a "factrory image" of some sort, the extension was nothing I had seen before, but it sounds to be the same type of file that HTC has, that when booted to recovery the phone will apply the image automaticly, which is how the dream gets downgraded.
I would think that if source is available and the image is too the only thing I could see stopping root would be a keyset other than the "real" one.
just like the g1 they may have a "dev keyset" that we can use on our fones and to sign updates which also blocks the "normal" updates out.
I have been searching daily for any info on rooting the morrison/cliq/dext, and haven't found much other than a couple forum posts and tweets. There are a few cliq fourms but none seem to have anything but "is root available", "when will it be rooted", "how do I gturn the phone on" type posts.

If he said he was taking donations for one, I'd help out . T-Mo has them at 50$ off right now too. But if he had a button in his sig that said "Cliq Donations" i'd log into PayPal right now =). The more advanced dev's that have them, the better.

same here. someone should let cy know he gots 2 willing. i got 20 on it. i dont even have a cliq and probably wont get one but if he wants one i am willing to help. he is way way to important to my daily use for me to not give what i can.
+1
Id be willing to donate to Cyanogen. The real question however, is whether or not he'd be interested. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe parts of blur are not open source.... if that's the case, then cyanogen may not be interested.
In any such case, this phone would be awesome with some optimized firmware on it. Heck, id go for a straight port of CM 4.2.5.
willing to donate
Hi all,
I'm not interested in rooting itself but in to use my mobile as a modem and be able to enjoy a lot of unnofficial updates, the same way I did with my old HTC Polaris...
I'm not a developer, but I'm willing to donate and support testing and getting logs...
I already bookmarked this thread to follow it up.
REgards,
JM
Forgot to clarify... I still have my Polaris, but I'm about to get my Moto Cliq this weekend or early next monday, but I have already played with the one my wife got last week...
I will buy Cyanogen a CLIQ if anyone can reach him and verify that he's interested.

NEW Gingerbread and now DEV appreciation thread

I'm starting a new thread in hopes that we can leave the negative shenanigans out of this one and get some work done here. Please help out all you can! Thanks
EDIT: changed the name of the thread a little as this thread is now including appreciation for our awesome devs here!

now mods have two threads to close
when and if someone gets it working, they'll make a thread. threads like this belong in general

Devs please make sure you parse apps right that is the biggest problem people forget to check also. You must get rid of all eris files. This is a sdk build and really needs alot of changes to make work.

Just go straight to honeycomb. Cant we just get a rom dump from the blurry pics of the non released motorola tablet shown today on engadget lol.
Now here's my question why must all leaked pictures be blurry??
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
So they look "leaky" haha, clear photos don't look underground enough. I think its hilarious how so many people complain about how crappy gingerbread is but then complain when they don't have it after 3 seconds of it being released!
I know this thread will get closed quickly, but I did just want to express my thanks to all the devs here for all the hard work and energy you put into our toys. You guys deserve honor for what you do because many of you have families, real jobs, and real lives and you do all this for free.
But time is money and it costs you many hours so that we can load ridiculously cool software and soup our phones up, again, for free!
Its time we started giving honor, respect, and donations where it belongs. I apologize for the way some people have treated yall here, its not okay. I also think though that those of us who are appreciative need not be silent anymore, as unexpressed gratitude comes across as ingratitude. I am on here a lot checking for updates and downloadin new roms and probably need to speak up more on the positives. I think people only post when something goes wrong: if everything's smooth we silently bask in the rom glory, but if one bug comes our way we blow up the threads.
I know I am generalizing and this doesn't apply to everyone, but this is just what I've observed. Once again I honor you guys for the the skill, talent, and generosity you have to do all these amazing roms and kernels and themes for us. I know you do it for fun but seriously thank you!
Sent from my Inc which would suck without xda devs
Thats right people, lets all just be thankful we have devs out there supporting our phone. Even if some are split between projects and can't devote full attention to the Dinc, at least its SOMEBODY. At the end of the day, the majority of us would take one look at some code and go "screw that". These people got some major skill, and I'm thankful for ALL the devs every time I see my Dinc with a CM6 bootscreen (And others can insert their own ROM touches, Myn, SR, etc..).
I've always been meaning to really thank the devs here but I never know who to really thank anymore I mean rmk thanks for virtuous ncx I'm sure that's wrong but thanks your your awesome clocks whoever made my iron man splash screen thanks thanks to everyone who has made the eighty million mods I frankenstine into my phone. Without you all my phone would be lame and with you I have something I show off everyday. Thanks a lot to everyone you guys put a lot into stuff that gives close to nothing back and that is just idk awesome lol. I'm done with this thanks rant now. Lol I think we created a thanks thread for now and not a gingerbread one.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
I was going to start a new thread in general just for everyone to thank all the XDA devs working on the Incredible, but this one seems to have that vibe going. Who knows, maybe I still will make that thread. But anyways I just wanted to throw my thanks out there to the devs cause without you this whole forum wouldn't even be here. I know *some of you guys* got trashed earlier on other threads, and I'm sorry for that. I guess some people just got caught up in the smell of gingerbread fresh out of the oven. I hope you guys know that there are those of us who really do appreciate your work and although those like myself don't have the knowledge to write our own code, I personally am willing to help and contribute any way I can. So my hats off to you devs, keep fighting the good fight.
Droid Incredible for the win.
Sincerely,
Cmdoptesc47

On a more interesting note.. I've been taking breaks from finals studying to play with the new sdk. My first couple attempts of a pure gingerbread rom for inc all resulted in boot loops. I'll definitely have more time to fuss around with it later today though. So, hold your freakin horses. Beggers can't always be choosers

I'm working on this as well; boot looping here too. Free time is limited right now, though, so I'm not sure if I'll have anything usable before the new year.
Agree with everyone thanking the devs. You guys are awesome. Thanks for helping free us from the grasps of our carriers and use the full potential of our phones!!!!
I just want to post my thanks to all the developers. One of the reasons i purchased an android phone in the first place is the massive mod community that it had. My experience has been amazing and what some of you guys do is beyond what i can even imagine myself accomplishing with the same tools. The few asshats that get bent of shape every time something doesn't work exactly how they want are just that, the few and the loud. They do not speak for the majority and should be penalized for their disrespect.
As much as i could denounce ****ers like AndroidStu and papi, i understand where IncDoes is coming from. He, along with many other devs, give us all these things that they created in their free time completely free of charge. They owe us nothing and only share their creation with us. I am ashamed to be grouped with such ungrateful ****tards.
I'd also like to take some time to post a quick thanks to our dev community. You guys are superhuman.
If I have seen farther, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
Yep it's easy to get in a rut and forget and/or take for granted what these guys do. I used to theme for Blackberry and especially when I had multiple themes going, it seemed to consume every ounce of my free time. And what I was doing is like tinkertoys compared to what these guys are doing...no comparison. Not even in the same universe.
There have been some unfortunate events that have occured in the last day or so but regardless of what and when 2.3 advancements hit...my sincere thanks to all who make this phone and community a better place.
While everyone else is at it ill add
This phone has the best support by far than every other thread
The devs take the time to tackle individual problems that we have along with building us great roms

+1000. i can wait for Gingerbread. between cyanogen's rom, seanzers' CM6 fixes, invisiblek's kernels and everything else available for the DInc I've got an awesome phone and I'm hella grateful. i would be remiss to not at least shout out all the rest of the devs out there who are doing their thing as well.
the only person I know who'd hate on Devs is my wife, who feels like she's lost me to ROM flashing, kernel swapping, radio upgrading and all the other shenanigans that go with have root, bloody root.
I must also say thanks to all the devs the DInc has
You guys do some amazing stuff that I could never do

[Q] (ATTN:Devs RE: Hulu) not sure where to post

First and foremost I Praise be to the Devs on this site, you are gods to the android community
Second: I looked around the forum and I swear I didn't see a post about this so I apologize if it's a repost.
I was sitting in my house tonight and had a friend come over that I decided to root his evo for him and use the current Mikfroyo. So I get done with the root and rom and start going through things to make sure it was stable. long story short, I opened the Hulu app and it stated that it wasn't supported (ArGH!). I tried the same on my Evo that I rooted two weeks ago and it didn't work either (Loving the Rom BTW thank you for making it, donating when I get the cash)... anyway are any devs aware of this (I tried different versions as well and got the same)
Posted this here just to be safe, if this needs to be else where I hope someone will move it.
Thank you Devs for all that you do and I'm learning to create my own rom on here hopefully one day it will be good enough to post side by side with you guys

Custom ROMs

I have been SCOURING the web for possible Motorola Bravo ROMs to no avail. I've read everything from the Bravo not possessing the correct files/firmware to the Bravo not having the lack of restriction needed. Point blank, I'm willing to put my phone up for experimental development to jump start this process for the world of Bravo users. I'm an employee of AT&T and I'm tired of the way we kill the freedom of this phone. It's time for the barriers to come down, point blank. Please, developers, feel free to contact me through this post if you are interested. I've heard about making dumb-files for the phone (I'm a moderate noob, to say the least). Therefore, I'm willing, with correct instruction, to create one of these system files to help out or whatever else may be needed.
Thanks
I just got a Bravo and love this guy! I prefer it over my Captivate and Aria. I'm all for some customization to come to this VERY underrated device.
same here. nothing has really been done with this phone. at least we could get 2.2? if nothing else

Bada Android - Help needed to build drivers into kernel!

Sorry if this is completely irrelevant in every way shape and form, but I'm from a community of people who own Samsung Wave smart phones who would really like to own an Android port due to the horrendous support for Bada by Samsung and complete and total lack of applications.
We have a working Froyo 2.2 port on the device which many have copied to their phones with success. A few developers have worked on it, Olek_k from XDA was working on it, passed it over to Rebellos. However, we currently have no working modem, camera or battery sensor and they are having trouble with Kernel development. Rebellos says that he thinks he's collected enough info to write a modem driver, but he is having problems with the kernel and the project has stalled. We've seen the amazing progress that has been made with this project, being passed down from person to person and there is a huge community of people who would like to experience android on their Bada handsets. I am no developer myself and a lot of us aren't, but the project has stalled and it'd be a real shame for so much progress to be lost. Do you know of anyone or are you yourself a developer of HD2 Android? All of us at badaforums.net and those in the Bada section at XDA are eager to see progress on the project. We do have developers, but they need aid in an area that they do not know well.
Please don't take this as a demanding request, I'm simply asking if you know of anyone who could help compile an android kernel (I'm not sure of the detail you'd have to ask the developers themselves) with the help of the current devs. We'd be hugely greatful if you could co-operate and help us out, because I know many who would absolutely adore android on their crippled Wave smartphones.
I sent a message similar to this to the admin of the Android ROMs site (http://android.hd2roms.com/) to see if they had any ideas about someone who could help. If you didn't know already, the wave is only available outside of the US, I don't know if anyone in the US can help with the development without the phone, you'd have to ask Rebellos or one of the other devs from the topic.
Below are some links where the discussions are;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118436&page=260
http://www.badaforums.net/forums/android-porting/porting-android-s8500-wave-t5464.html
I am a noob at XDA and I haven't tried the port myself as of yet, but I love my Wave and no one has made the jump to reach to the awesome HD2 porting community yet, so I thought I'd try.
Please contact me in this topic, via PM, or contact Rebellos or any of the other developers in the topic if you, or someone you know can help out.
Thanks very much, again, sorry if this is in the wrong place.

+1 as a HD2 and Wave user. Help us please!
Damn, no one else has noticed the post :/
Oh well, I'll be patient and just hope that people aren't ignoring the post lol.
Pins, do you know of someone who was at the head of the project? I'm pretty clueless, I'll do some digging.
They will, just give them time.
You might want to consider getting the XDA admin's incharge of the news, to publish this, since this is really going to go un-noticed by the majority of developers. Some good might come out of it. All the best. I remembered waiting (and I am sure many other HD2 users too) for the Android port and then WP7 port for HD2... it seemed like a long wait, but eventually it is done

Yeah man, thanks. I was just being impatient. Really don't want to come off as an arsehole because a lot of people in the bada-android forum got pissed due to trolls, when there are, infact a lot of people who are nice and genuine who are eager to see the port.
And I will have a look to see if I can do that erlern, but do you think they will really listen to someone with like, under 10 posts? xD I mean, they might, but however funny that noob video was, they don't seem to be particularly keen on them. We'll see.
erlern is right maybe its better to write the admins at news
Hi rayze! Erlern is right come to think of it, the admins handling the news section can post about this on the front page.
Also on the title of the post amend it to this "Help needed to build drivers into kernel" then maybe the developers of this thread may pay more attention too.
Also post this on the android development thread of HD2 since this is the Q&A section which has more to do with everyday use of the hd2.

No one else seemed to bother doing it, so I thought, why not. Don't think I've posted in HD2 main yet, but might have. Struggling to remember really.
Oh yeah, no I didn't because I need more posts xD I only have 7 lol.
Unfortunately us Wave modders are probably one of the smallest communities in this entire forum, we might get noticed, but it's getting people to help that will be the highest hurdle. It's a shame really, you'd expect many more people to buy this phone when you can pick it up now at cpw for £99.
I really respect how those developers devote so much time on making better software for our phones, and in most cases they just want a thank you at the end.
I am so happy to see this at the front page of XDA!
