best tablet games/apps? - Galaxy Tab General

im actually getting an archos 101 but its the same question for those of you with the tab already
what are some apps/games that really benefit from the added screen size?
i know dolphin browser with the ipad agent will be cool for ipad enabled sites. and some games like NOVA and raging thunder will be better, but what else?
dont say games like angry birds, it will be great but its no different then the small screen

Look in themes and apps. There are two topics for your search-hating self.

You prolly will get flamed for the thread but look up emulators on the market and you can have any game you want. The android specific games are not the greatest yet but Froyo will help with the touchscreen issues so that better ones can come out. Emulators are the best option though.
i think i saw some on the market. cheapest was that speedx but i could only find that racing game by gameloft on the market really wanted modern combat, nova, hawx, assassins creed.
I like:
Air Control
Friction Mobile
Missile Intercept
Replica Island

Evo as gaming device

I was curious as to how many are using their Evo as a gaming device as well as its other uses. I started off playing some of the simple arcade and puzzle style games but I have recently been playing a couple of fps games from gameloft and I realize that there is a lot of potential for the evo if the developers will continue with it.
I'm playing home run battle 3d and a couple of other games.

Yeah I have been playing quite a bit of old NES games with nesoid.
CM6 + wiimote + wii steering wheel + gps dash mount + dremel + gorilla glue = emulator fun. I have been mostly playing old SNES games, but I have a 40 minute bus ride to & from work so I have to kill the time somehow.
Until I saw the demo for NOVA and Sandstorm I never realized that 3d gaming had come so far for android. Those are the 2 main games that I am playing right now.
It's perfect for RPG's which is my favorite type of games. Play final fantasy tactics as we speak. I never owned a ps1 myself so theres a lot of rpg games for me to play.
Am I the only who likes Meteor Blitz? It's just about my favorite handheld game of all time! Like a Geometry Wars mobile.
PSXDroid is pretty nice. I continually encounter graphical glitches though, which is utterly annoying.
SandStorm is neat, Nova is a fun FPS as well. Pretty much most of Gamelofts releases are enjoyable. Well, minus Assassin's Creed.
There's a guy working on Starcraft for Android, but I think the projects gone dead in the water.
Finally, Quake III on Android. Or, Kwaak3
Also, this may not be the best place to post anything about iOS, because I know quick people can be to hate on the iPhone. But Steve Jobs aside, who else is impressed by Epic Game's Infinity Blade and Mutant Bash TV by Id running on the Rage iOS engine?
I'm totally floored by it to be honest. Had no idea a 1GHz processor with 512MB RAM could achieve graphics on this level.
It's only a matter of time before a company creates an engine like this for Android Devices. Development is either already in the works or right around the corner.
*Cough* PSP Phone *Cough*
The prospects are incredible! The only thing that bugs me is that I use to play my old GameBoys till the battery died when I was out and about. It will just really suck if I do the same with my EVO. That would put my day dead in the water if I didn't have a back up battery or wall outlet near by....
I am waiting patiently for oooecao to release their games!

Those iOS games are insane, I can't wait till we have them on Android. Epic has already demoed their Unreal Engine on Android so we will definitely have some sick games coming soon.
BTW, what ROM/theme are you running in the pic in your sig?

I know, they just need to come out with a decent controller for handheld devices. I almost want to go out and pick up a WiiMote just for my EVO. I have a PS3 controller but I've read that it will probably never happen because of technicalities with bluetooth between the two. I use my PS3 Controller to play Halo on my Netbook, so much fun! Makes airplane flights a breeze.
Just put a vice grip on a pad with a few buttons and put on a MicroUSB connector with an input on the pad for charging and call it done.
I keep reading about people whom have tested some of these Rage iOS games complaining that the controls blow. Especially Mutant Bash TV, it's tilt shift. I mean REALLY!? I tend to get p'd off at DoodleJump, let alone an FPS.
Stock ROM, unREVOked. Theme is custom.
Better off with a epic, you got the keyboard for controls and better GPU.
which is my problem... I don't use my phone for gaming, so it has no use for me lol

Lol, 4 of my friends recently jumped on to the Epic from TP2's (we all get the same phones, its kinda wierd) But i have an Evo. I play games on mine and its pretty good, but i tell them that games play better on the Epic due to the GPU/CPU and none of them play games, haha.
I got the usual great android games on plus, snesoid, nesoid, gensoid, psx4droid. The emulators are much better when rooted with a kernel that allows for better multi touch,(I'm currently on kings bfs11). I have hundreds games just between the emulators. I would consider psx4droid unplayable unless u had such a kernel. The biggest problem with playing the games is the lack of better multi touch, and thats y I will never b unrooted again.
Swyped from my Evo
they need to change up the controllers. Instead of using the forward, back, left, right motions on the screen, use the gyroscope to do those, and then in the left hand have the movement of the gun, and in the right hand, have the shooting or w/e.
Has anyone here tried Heavy Gunner?
I've been on a real gaming spree ever since I got the Evo!
Super K.O Boxing is really nice
SpeedX 3D is my favorite!
N.O.V.A was a b*t*h to get working, but it's by far the most graphically intense game.
Caligo Chaser is alright if you like more cartoony RPGs. The best part of the game is that when you adjust your gear it visually reflects on the character, lots of choices too!
Fruit Ninja is a fun, friendly style, potentially competitive style game
I just tried Meteor Blitz, thanks for the recommendation! I do wish the movement controls were less sensitive however.
Android is a fantastic platform for gaming, unfortunately it's not the only one and developers are limited
I tried a couple of the emulators but the game rom's I downloaded showed the game on a tiny screen and the controls did not work well at all. I guess I need to try some different games roms. Sandstorm is as graphically intensive as NOVA if not more so. I tried Avatar but the gameplay was a little confusing for me at times. Bottom line is that android is a great gaming platform and the Evo is a good hard device for gaming. I have a kindle and a zuneHD and was getting ready to get a psp. Now the Evo is truly an all in one device for me. It will do what all of those will do. Sure it uses a lot of battery but I would rather switch batteries during the day than to cary 3 or 4 devices and chargers when I travel.
MMORPG: Pocket Legends. That thang was just released today.
?
so why is it so hard to get Need for speed shift? why not in the market? why are there no good games in the market? on my old iphone i played many awesome games like nfsshift, street fighter 4, fifa soccer, chaos rings most of all Grand theft Auto chinatown wars. when i look in the market, there a bunch of crappy games, i mean common no words with friends or scrabble or bejeweled? my opinion, get a 64 gb ipod touch, you get your games and great music integration with itunes, plus 32gb extra possible storage. and its thin. i love my evo but no-matter what mods i do to it its not good at graphic intensive stuff, i cant even run the ocean waves wallpaper without it choppin like Jackie chan.
p.s. also looked for pocket legends, nothing in market for that either

On the fence...

Hey Guys,
I'm on the fence on getting this for my birthday (Aug 6th) but I have a few concerns. I have done a lot of research but am coming up empty on these questions.
1.) eBooks. I love Kindle and Nook and as a full time college student it is imperative that I have access to these two apps. Are they available for the Tab with Tablet optimization?
2.) Application support. I love Netflix and I see that that it is not supported or available yet (even with the APK). This is the same for Hulu (sorry it's ridiculous that you need to root and use a hacked flash that will more than likely be blocked like most exploits for Hulu), so is there any chance that these apps will be available by year's end for the Tab?
3.) I love gaming as well, how is that for the tab? (I'm talk along the lines of Nova, Assassin's Creed, Plant's vs Zombies, etc...) While I like Angry Birds, I'm not spending $500 for something I can play in my Chrome Browser.
4.) Is it really worth it?
I detest Apple with a passion and thus I am trying to avoid getting an iPad 2, but with a fully working Hulu app and Netflix app it's tempting though I would like a tablet that will compliment my future Samsung Attain (Galaxy S 2 on AT&T when launched...whenever that is).
Thank You
1) Sure. Ebooks are no problem. My favorite (Mantano reader) also says it's honeycomb ready - so it should work. The display is awesomely sharp and beats the Ipad in display quality.
2) Pretty sure they will update Netflix for tablets, they have an official version out:
https://market.android.com/search?q=netflix&so=1&c=apps
3) Yes you can play on it, but thats and "app question" and android can't beat the Ipad on that one. If optimized for tegra, it blows the Ipad stuff away. More polygons and still more FPS. Those chips are from Nvidia...
http://www.nvidia.com/object/tegra-zone.html
There are also more games for it but not tegra optimized.
4) You need to know the answer to this one. Do you really need/want a tablet or are you just hyped?
There is a tablet optimized version of nook and kindle. Netflix said that 10.1 is going to to be the first honeycomb tablet to get it soon. Its a great tablet emulator work nice, and the game loft games that they have made available work great. There is also a decent number of terra 2 optimized games. Ipad has alot of useful apps for college, more games, and higher quality apps in general. Lack of a flash player on the ipad is extremely annoying, and the UI is really boring and restricted. Can't run emulators on the Ipad because apple blocks them. Browser on honeycomb is really buggy when it comes to text entry, ipad browser is smooth and stable, but honeycomb has more features.
I have both and I use m galaxy tab much more. Just wish app development would pick up
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium App
1. Haven't looked at the Nook app, but the Kindle app looks nice on Honeycomb.
2. Hard to say what Netflix and Hulu are doing. Netflix has promised more device support. But we have no idea when. And it's been a long wait already.
3. Android gaming is decent. There seem to be enough good games that I don't think I would shy away from an Android tablet for this reason. But I do believe iPad does have an advantage here in numbers and sometimes quality. Plants vs Zombies for example is lower resolution on Android, while iPad has an HD version. Also Anandtech.com did find the Apple A5 to be a more powerful processor than the Tegra 2 (Tegra 2 is older afterall).
4. In my opinion, Android 3 isn't ready for me. I've decided to return mine and hope Android 4 is more stable later this year.
I don't care much for Apple either. I bought my first Apple device last year, the iPad 1 because there were no good 10 inch Android tablets (Viewsonic G-Tablet and upcoming Archos 101 were pretty low end running Android 2.2 and no Google apps). So I folded and got the iPad. Probably took me a good two weeks to get used to all the things I can't do with it, and I'm still kinda hating iTunes. But the iPad has excellent apps and lots of them (100,000 now tablet optimized). And it's really the apps I use it the most for anyway.
If I had some assurance from Samsung that they would update to Android 4.0 rather soon after it's release this fall, I might have been willing to live with the GT 10.1. But I'm still waiting for Samsung to release Gingerbread on my Galaxy S Vibrant, so I'm not confident.
This tablet is a lot better with opera mobile installed. no more typing lag while browsing .
1. Yes Kindle is tablet optimized so it is on par with ipad 2 IMHO it exceeds it. There is also a wide variety of Ebook readers that are tablet optimized in the market place.
2.Well i actually believe there should be a netflix app for this tab soon. Remember that netflix for android is really new and is still barley rolling out for phones! so a honeycomb app shouldn't be all too far fetched. Remember, netflix is really trying to expand its streaming services and in order to do that it needs to sink into as many devices as possible that's why you see a netflix logo on all sorts of devices, ps3,xbox,ipad,iphone,blu-ray players, there is not reason a tablet version should not be possible especially with the popularity of the ipad app.
3. Gaming well its hard to judge it really depends on what you want to play. Yes there are games on here that you listed like NOVA and plants and zombies, there are also console quality games that are tegra optimized that blows the ipad games out of the water only problem is there isn't all too many but with the awesome color screen the 10.1 has they sure look better. And lastly there is tons of emulators in the market place for all kind of consoles so your tab can run Ps1,n64,gba,gbc,snes games with no problem!
4. hmm well i bought it in all the hype but i always wanted a tablet for some reason and i bought it and can honestly say it is worth it at the moment but i feel its will be way more worth it later on lets say android icecream sandwhich! but if you can get the tab now go for it!

Great, thank you!!
N.O.V.A-2, N.O.V.A-3, backstab HD, mass effect infiltrator, gta 3.
while my favourite game to date has been "asphalt 6 by game loft" I'm currently enjoying "beach buggy blitz by vector unit" which is fun like "diddy Kong racing by rare" on the n64.
I tend to play puzzles on my phone but enjoy tilt control racing on my a500.
is it just me but ever since i went to cm10 on the acer a500 it recognises my device as a tegra 3 and allows me to download tegra3 games but not play them
Great Little War Game.
Great Big War Game.
Both are killing any extra time that I have.
My personal racing favourite would be Asphalt 6 - but are there any better ones out there i am missing out on ? didn't like real racing much nor nfs hot pursuit lol

¡For the love of gods! this guy is only posting for trolling, what is the damn point to ask for our favorite games in this "ANDROID" forum to end in his stupids comparisions telling us that he has an iPad a is much beter in all aspects, man there is no comparision we all know the iPad is better, the reason for open this section is to discuss our expiriences (troubles and soutions) in our day routine whith the acer iconia.

This has been brought up before.
Besides, can't ban somebody just because they like iPad's. There's nothing wrong with a comparison, so just be calm. If you wish not to see his posts, then use the block function in your profile settings.
So, let's not start troubles. Clearly there is a reason an iPad owner bought (I think) an Iconia

Sonic 4 episode 1 is pretty awesome. After I finish it I plan on getting episode 2. Can anyone confirm if the HD version works good on the A500 or should I go with the standard def version of episode 2? Episode 1 didn't have a choice, but it looks great IMO.

So you ask for games and criticize the suggestions we give you? If you like the games on apple then why did you buy an android device
Knock it off please. No arguments.
OP, you've been told not to start Android/Apple arguments before. If you wish to brag about Apple products, then go to an Apple forum.
So keep things on topic please.

PLease Help

Hello i was going to buy the Asus padfone 2 when i saw it on the internet but after i saw the tablet resolution and the HTC One i decided to buy HTC One with a Nexus 7 but my question is the nexus 7 laggy for me i play a lot of games like Dead trigger N.O.V.A 3 and Shadowgun and Fifa 13
so i will install like 80+ games is it laggy for this kind of user???
Well there's no lag in games like Shadow gun and ravensword. It can pretty much handle every android game I throw at it and also emulates ps1 and N64 very well.
---------- Post added at 03:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:38 AM ----------
I should also note that N.O.V. A 3 runs spectacularly. I'm running smooth rom and Franco kernel which helps a lot too.
what i mean is not if it laggs in the game or not i mean after installing all this games will it lagg when am using chrome or any other thing
I would say that the Nexus 7 is not a perfect gaming device, and it is definitely not "lag-free" when you are stock. When I was stock I also figured that chrome was a bit laggy, so I recommend dolphin browser.
If you have any browser opened, it should not affect the gaming too much, but it is optimal to have none apps opened. Android have a really good multitasking system, so it should be no problem actually.
Well the n7 isn't going to have any more than 32gb. So it would be pretty impossible to install 80+ games on it, and as with any device, it will slow down substantially once your hard drive is almost full. I wouldn't suggest buying it if you need all of those games installed at once.
