stereo speakers ?! - Venue Pro General

I am planing on getting the Dell Venue Pro. But Dose it have stereo speakers ?!

According to all the video previews I have seen it does. They are doing a poor job of showing this phone off though. Losing potential buyers I think

Looked for any infos about the device but i could not find anything about it
that is really sad. I do not know why dell is not putting it in their website

I think they are not yet ready with the device yet. If you watch all the hands-on videos, you will notice that they are all given by Dell PR people and repeating the same tape over and over again. Also, no one has yet published a proper review of the device. I think they haven't shipped out any review units either.

Yes I agree completely. That's why I worded preview and not review. Wish they would get with it. Wonder why they are lagging behind the other phones announced.

Also there late to the party makes me wonder about after sale support as far as updates and what not. I may just get the HTC Hd7 on the 8th and pick this one on down the road

Dell has good customer support infrastructure and updates will be handled by Microsoft. So I think it will be alright.
HD7 viewing angle/color fading is just too disappointing. After using AMOLED screen on Nexus one, it is just too painful to go back to ordinary LCD screens.

Oh okay that's good to hear. I am concerned about the screen on the hd7 also. Some vids it looks nice though. Is it the same screen as the Evo? I know my Evo is really washed compared to my Vibrant and even the IP4 I had

Last night I decided to look up reviews on Dell's past mobile devices. The Aero and the Streak. Both for Android.
A lot of people say the build quality is pretty bad for both devices. This has be a bit worried.

I thought about that too. I mean I will put insurance on it regardless, but some of the lower series Dell computers are cheaply made.

Yea, but the reviews also say this phone leaves them for dead, in build quality and other areas...it seems to be pretty solid form all the reviews I've read so far.

I'm pretty sure you will see a review of the phone on Engadget soon b/c on the Engadget show the MS director showed of all the WP7 phones and I'm more than likely sure that Engadget got a review unit.

I'm sorry, but they honestly tend to be a bit biased. I plan to wait for a review from another site like CNET or AnandTech.

there is a review from cnet. i already saw it youtube
they compare it with htc hd7
and yet the reviewer is pretty impressed with the dell venue pro and they're looking forward to it

DELL are changing tack from being a budget box-pusher to something more upmarket. The Venue Pro is one of the first products to reflect their new strategy, hence why the build quality is so good.

Are you dumb? It's been released already in the UK, they have basically given release dates for the US and US versions are starting to pop up on ebay.

Like I said - SPITE! I hate a company like that jerking me around. The last time I asked a rep about it (last week), they acted like they didn't know what a Streak was and asked me for a webpage on it. I gave the guy the webpage on Dell's site and he said "oh...we don't have a release date". F'ing assholes.

Haha indeed Dell support acts like they do not know what you are talking about. Then state they have no information. Dell also does not even have an information page for the product other than the press release and 1 blog post (which they never respond to comments).
I too am completely furious about their approach to getting the Streak in the hands of their customers (other than the UK). I personally believe they are tied down with partners (like AT&T and O2) restricting them to just do whatever they wanted and release it. They have confirmed at the D8 that it will release in the US in July. Almost there...
Also, this is all new territory for Dell. Overall the Streak is a beauty and for that, I could care less who made it. I just want one!
jezz ease up. If engadget hadn't managed to find the mini 5 prototype in Asia you wouldn't have known about it for so long. Whats wrong with developing your first piece of hardware in the mobile marketplace so its good and can get help get market share. I mean would you want them to launch a device that is buggy and has issues, I think not.
They have been pretty clear for the last little while on dates and launch details, more clear than some of HTC or Moto launches as of late. Go get your HD2 and enjoy some year old WinMo if thats what you really want.
I'm tired of waiting around to find out whether or not this thing will work on T-mobile. Yeah, I know about the FCC filings for the t-mobile band version but who knows if that even was manufactured.

I hope you're right dude. I had a Touch Pro that had a digitizer failure so now I'm forced back to my 8125 Talk about TORTURE! I was going to just buy another Touch Pro or similar but hate to spend the $$ when the Streak "may" be coming out here in July. I've been drroling over the Streak for a long time, but I REALLY hate Dell's PR and handling of the release of it. That's where Apple has a real edge over other MFR's, they keep the lid on it so people don't get pissed waiting on their products. Michael Dell was smiling like a fool several times over the last 6 months with a Streak as if to say "ha, ha MF's! I have one and you don't!" Makes me want to say "suck it, asshole! I'll take my $$ elsewhere."
Hi guys,
It's worth the wait.
I have had loads of HTC's, last one being my HD2 in February.
I got the Dell Streak yesterday and I thinks its better than any of the HTC's I have had before inc the HD2.
This is mainly due to the Android OS and the marketplace download facility which is way better support than any windows based apps download, or in fact is there any?
I have installed loads of aditional apps, all free and am having lots of fun just as an iphone user would, with ease of use , but all my apps have been free, think I said that but it should be repeated.
I am very gratefull to the XDA team in supporting this device via this forum but the next major step up will be 2.2 hopefully in September.
My brief summary is its not too big but definately bigger that the HD2. The screen of the Dell is actually the size of the outer dimensions of the HD2.
The OS is much better and seems to be a more intuative device all round.
Ther is even an XDA app which saves having to go via the browser and is also very good but for some reason will not accept my login. Very easy to use.
So just wait and don't dive into a HD2 pit even though I love that as well.

Hey John,
What you say is true. This device's software is great, and has a lot of apps backing it up. However, that's solely because of the Android OS. Tell me, is it worth having a 5inch screen for a phone? Wasn't the HD2's 4.3 inch big enough?
HTC also has excellent Android phones that are backed by the same software as the Deal Streak, same goes for Sony Ericsson and Samsung.
On a personal note, I don't see this phone getting as much support as the N1, Desire, or even the X10. Whether from the manufacturer or us, the community . So It all comes down to that, doesn't it---as well as the aesthetics and dimensions of the Streak as well.
I don't see the Streak going far in it's life time.

Two things on this:
1.6 Really? After having 2.2 on my Sexy Nexy, not sure I want to go back down...
And I played with an EVO and an HD2 last night. 4.3 is pretty big. I'm really re-thinking the 5 inch screen...but damn, it's 5 inches! This is the biggest love/hate I have ever had. Ugh.

Hate to say it, but I agree. I'm not sure Dell will roll out releases in a timely manner (I mean come on, this thing is shipping with 1.6???). And I don't see it being a huge success at 5", so I don't think there will be as large of a community offering support.

Hi Guys,
I am not agest but I am 56 and my eysight is therfore going south.
I cannot see any mobile screen without the assistance of reading glasses.
So for me the larger the better. Having said that I think going above 5" may be impractical for a phone. I have not tried it with a bluetooth hedset yet. I have one in the attick somewhere that I have been trying to flog on car boots for 3 yrs.
The streak does go in my jeans pocket as is but I am now looking round for a decent cover that will protect but not add too much to the dimensions. That may be hard.
I have found the streak better than the HD2 in several ways.
First the additional size does help with browsing and able to fit in lots of screen shortcuts for apps/widgets etc.
It does seems faster all round.
Apps install in the native 2gb memory leaving the sd card all for myself. On the HD2 I was installing as many apps onto the SD as would work.
Some of the above is due to android yes
I am patient enough to wait for the 1.6 to 2.2 upgrade and I think Dell will come through as they have a vested interest in getting the 5" working and selling itself before bringing out 7" and 10" versions.
I am new to android but maybe Dell wanted a tried and tested version as their first tablet before going for say v2.1. I dare say thier development team is fairly new.
Android 3 looks good but may not be available on our phones until xmas 2010.
I think there is definately a market for bigger phones if only for chaps of a certain age who are still techies.
The HD2 may well have a larger market but so has the iphone and there are more reasons I don't want one of them then I can discuss here. Apps are a doddle to install on Android compared witrh any windows phone.
I would like to see manila on the Dell but that will never happen as its HTC property. The Android 3 version seems to be offering a decent GUI though.
WOOT WOOT!!!!
I do not care what anyone says. I want a Dell Streak and I want it bad! I just hope this bad boy has some decent gpu performance.
Thanks [email protected] orange didn't get hold of this! All I can say. Selling my TG01 to buy myself out of my 'we sell you a mobile even though there's little or no coverage in your area by our so called vast Orange network' contract.

O2 ftw.

Agreed
Glimmer of hope???
Per BGR: We have heard from an AT&T source that the Dell Streak is launching on July 19th on AT&T...
- Can't post a link since I'm a 'new member'... just google news it...
I bounced through Dell sales chats a few days ago and finally was told by someone in the Electronics and Accessories dept. that it will be available on their website on 7/16/2010. Whether or not that is true remains to be seen.
Either way, maybe one of the other phones might be better for me (like the Samsung Captivate/Galaxy S series), since it still has a pretty big screen without all the heft of the Streak. Also, the Captivate may receive wider market acceptance and more software support from Samsung as well as developers (at least AT&T and other carriers are promoting this device, which is more than Dell is doing right now).
Johnny,
I am like you old as dirt, and the bigger the better. plus the browsing experience is better when bigger.
I wanted a Huewai S7 which is 7", but not available till the end of July.
Android OS rocks over the HD2 win crap. this is the last win phone I am going to have, selling my HD2 to my son....
Dell has really done a dirty deed to us all, but it should be worth waiting.
Please dont make the mistake of buying the samsung galaxy s, its a pile of s**t, trust me i had 1, just to many problems and samsungs UI is so slow, that it lags like hell, i now have a dell streak and i couldent be happier

That's pretty cool....finally recognized for it's greatness.
Wow, like seeing some great N1 news! About time!!
Hip-hip-hooray!
N1 also ranked higher than iPhone 4. sweet... Wondering why?
ah finally SOME recognition. But of course, the ipad was ranked number 1
I'm shocked that the N1 was ranked above the iPhone 4. I love my N1, but I have to say that the hardware on the iPhone 4 is incredible.
Perhaps it was rated lower due to its antenna issues.

You guys must be reading a different article than I saw. The one I read was more of the same "sales didn't meet expectations, it's not really that great of a phone but more of a novelty" drivel that I've seen written by everyone who doesn't "get" it.
This year Google tried (and failed) to capitalize on customer frustrations with wireless-phone manufactures and their multiyear contracts as well as the dominant tech company's brand. Nexus One is the first and only phone designed specifically by Google to take advantage of its Android software platform. Nexus One, which Google called a superphone (I can almost hear the sarcastic quotes around "called"), wasn't quite the runaway success the search company had hoped for (failure). The phone was ahead of its time but by only months (== insignificant), and even though you could buy it without a contract, you could pick between only AT&T and T-Mobile (bummer)— and you had to pay a premium to do so (the nerve of them to charge money for excellent hardware!). Still, Nexus One owners get updates directly from Google and ahead of other Android phone users.

It seems like for every positive thing they say, there's two more negative things said or implied. "Still, they get updates directly from Google" doesn't really sound like an appropriate closing statement to an article about a Top 10 piece of tech.
Compare that with the glowing praise for the iPhone4, which was rated one place BELOW the N1:
While sales of 1.7 million units in the first three days of availability are mighty impressive, the iPhone 4's 960-by-640-pixel screen resolution is even more impressive. No competitor has been able to stuff as many pixels into a 3.5-in. (9 cm) LCD. What's more, Apple's front-facing camera and FaceTime software have finally made mobile video chatting popular with regular people.

Is this from cnn also? Just remember that how many people work for cnn knows how to operate a phone. they're are not tech site like engadget our gizmodo our anybody that knows a lot about tech.they only look at the sales number and write **** they want. Probably the writer of that article is an iphone 4 owner that's why he is frustrated when the n1 tops their beloved one. I'd say most of the people there own an iphone or a blackberry device.

Loving the way they rated the Samsung Galaxy S, with its broken GPS and relatively poor performance for its hardware as #2, LMAO. Lost all credibility for it the moment I saw that.
I was a N1 user who moved on to the iPhone 4 (passed my n1 to my better half), I was pleasantly surprised that it got the higher spot! But what I find interesting is the least coverage it got on Engadget.com, which proves their bias against android and to apple. Yes Mr. Topolsky, keep up the sarcasm on your biasness - extremely shallow and I am still upset about the horrid proximity sensor which you guys never covered properly on your review.
Glad to see it ahead of the iphone 4, but as someone else said its funny to see the still negative comments mixed in with the praise. Love my N1 almost a year later.
Happy to see our precious at #5

No Hands On Reviews?

Outside of the Wirefly unboxing video, I'm surprised that that none of the tech blogs (i.e. Phandroid, Gizmodo, Engadget, etc..) have been sent units for review prior to launch. I'm curious if this to avoid any potentially negative reviews?
I can't help but wonder if this is due to the fact that development is really coming down to the wire. It looks like the hardware has been done for a while, but both Honeycomb and Flash seem to be coming down to the last moment, and it looks like Flash was booted. I'm guessing that review units weren't sent to reviewers earlier was because the software wasn't as finalized as everyone wanted.
The Atrix, on the other hand, not only made it to reviewers early, but it was released early as well, so I don't think that Motorola is afraid of the media.
It could be that, or it could be because Motorola is trying to get this thing out the door the INSTANT it is ready to get some initial sales in before the iPad2 is announced March 2.
You're not very smart if you think review sites haven't had the xoom for at least a week or more.
The release is tomorrow...expect the nda to expire tonight or tomorrow and reviews to pop up immediately after that.

I agree and since the full Android 3.0 SDK has been released I think review units are on the way or soon on the way. I doubt the reviews have anything to do with Ipad2 coming up. I think the wifi model will probably be the answer and thats why I think that moto is holding out.
Im a part of the media base. Motorola's PR team told me that they don't have any review units yet. This has to be a first.

With regards to the last minute stuff, that's more or less what I was thinking. I suppose there is a chance we will some some reviews later this afternoon / this evening.
This whole launch really has been a debacle. Too many leaks and last minute omissions(no Flash)...just so much uncertainty and not in a positive way. Although the unlocked bootloader news is HUGE.

Apps will probably be a deciding factor for a few months. Since android has taken off, app development has boomed and with how Apple is handling in-app subscriptions, I think we will see devs heading towards other platforms.
i got to use a xoom for about 15 min today
ill give you my initial impressions
size is good, right where a tablet should be
it is heavy, enough to notice it
meaning the battery is good, it was on for almost two hours and at 77%
android 3.0 is awesome how its laid out
there is button on the left for tabs of running apps
on the right is any control / notification, much better than the shade
there is the redesigned market that is like the web version, so its much better
i use chrome on the computer, and it is now like that on 3.0 +++
and google video chat did work over 3G
it did degrade quality based on speeds but overall good
using it basically solidified me buying it tomorrow.
My GTablet get 10hrs of battery life easy. I would be shocked if the Xoom didn't as well.

I wonder how fast heavy websites render compared to the iPad? I hate how slow it takes the iPad to fully load up a regular website like say, Engadget.. atleast 20-30 seconds! I'm hoping the Xoom feels more like a netbook, with a bit more snap and rendering speed. That would make web browser so much more fun and entertaining.
yeah it's the most important thing of a tablet.
my main use would be browsing the web too...
when i used it, i had 5 tabs open and could easily jump between them quickly (and other apps)

Five Android smartphones you should avoid buying (streak included)

I don't comment often but I knew I had to post after reading this
http://www.androidapps.com/tech/articles/8942-five-android-smartphones-you-should-avoid-buying
Is it a phone? Is it a tablet? The Dell Streak somehow combines the worst qualities of each. What’s the point of having a portable device that places phone calls but doesn’t comfortably fit in your pocket? In terms of computing, the comparatively small Dell Streak is clearly inferior to the iPad and other tablet offerings. But don’t just take our word for it. Wall Street Journal tech guru Walt Mossberg listed the Streak as one of the worst devices he reviewed in 2010. Android software updates to the Streak have made it a more usable device than when Mossberg published his original review. However, not even the most advanced mobile operating system in the world can make up for the Streak’s clumsy form factor.

Granted I've only been a streak user for about 4 months now, I don't understand why it made this list. The chief complaint comes from size, personally with a 5" screen the streak is a perfect e-reader and gps.
The article also links a review from the wsj, here the reviewer mostly had a problem with software. Being updated to 2.2, I've never experienced a random reboot or been told I didn't have enough memory to run an app..
Thoughts?
The Streak's size makes it a niche device. I use it as my do everything device and find it great for e-reading.
The guy who wrote the article probably never saw Dell Streak forum here. Here are many people who are using Dell Streak like phone and don`t have problem fitting it in the pocket (myself included).
And the screen size is very, I mean VERY addictive
He is writing that 5inch screen is not practical for phone, well for me it is very practical, now I am not buying anything with screen less then 5 inches.
So that article is just stupid
to be fair we could argue that each and every article reviewing something in the known universe is "stupid" mainly because no matter how much you struggle to keep out any personal opinions you will fail; moreover, even the reader will have his personal opinions and thats the same old song, each to their own etc. for example, if I was 20cm shorter (which would make me about 165cm) i would for sure point out that 5" is just plain too big for smartphone replacement purposes. turns out I am not therefore YES, THE DAMN PHONE FITS NICELY IN MY F'IN POCKET AND YES, I CAN USE THE SONUVABEACH IN PORTRAIT WITH ONE HAND. dare I say short people envy?
(btw, no offence meant to anyone, i'm just joking up a bit: like the author of the article.. or at least so I hope)
Desperate Apple Shrills
These people (the Moss guy especially) are known to be Apple shrills. The best thing to do is just ignore them and don't let it raise your blood pressure. They probably own Apple stock and the way Apple is going lately (look at the whole ebook mess) Apple shrills know that it is only a matter of time before Apple tablets go the way of Apple computers. A small market for a few, but everyone else will move on. More people own Android phones than iPhones and they will want a complimentary tablet to go with it. The same can be said for those who use Blackberry
The only reason that they are ahead now is because they were first with a real usable touch screen tablet. But their control issues are as usual going to far, and they cost too much. People are starting to catch on.
Remember; It is not how you start, but how you finish.
"Wall Street Journal tech guru Walt Mossberg" I remember reading his review when it first came out, the thing is he's pretty much bought and paid for by Apple. Nothing he reviews ever matches up the the wonderfullness that is whatever the latest Apple device is.
I think there's still a thread about that review here on the forum somewhere.
Lol I came specifically here to post about this article. I just saw it on yahoo too...honestly kind of gave me a scare since my streak is supposed to come in tomorrow and I have high hopes for it!
But I think the reasons he gives for it to be on the list are reasons why people end up loving it! And the author doesn't really seem excited about android phones generally anyways...
On a side note-- the Thunderbolt is on that list too. is it really that bad?

Trust me, you're gonna love it! Post a review for us after you use it for awhile. And you will love it even more after you pimp it out with the themes/apps on this site.

Plus one here. I'm keeping my streak beyond my contract I like it that much. I also have an Ipad, very dissapointed with it. I expected it to be better than my streak however its not. I prefer using my phone

The streak is the best phone I have ever owned. Obviously the writer of this article is a fanboy!

well.. well
the article refers DS as a "PHONE" to make a "PHONE CALLS"..
then how on earth he could write that in a web site that talks about android apps?
Although the 5" screen makes the streaker harder to handle (I dropped one a few times until the screen and mb gave out) than say, samsungs or htc' 3,7 to 4" screens, it is definitly more useful, especially for "robust" fingers and arms length viewing/ reading/typing, such as when in a car support for GPS usage.
And its still pocketable, unlike 7 or 10 inch pad. Also, try to use a 10" PAD for GPS car mounting, and you'll likely block out visibility, hence safety.
When I broke mine, I bought a second one, instead of going elsewhere.
IT might be a niche product, but its a hell of niche and its definitly not a toy, for surfing the net, unlike some of the fruty stuff.

" ....Let.em come stepp'n "up in my hauss" and try their mightest to take MY baby out of my grabby hands!...they will draw back a nub! Shooooot, dont talk about my Dell Streak TABLET/PHONE!..hmmmph!"
In my opinion the Streak is the best phone and tablet in the world (since I moved to Simplestreak 1.2)
But if you don't root or modify the streak to meet your needs it is crap. The stage UI is the worst thing ever made and some other launchers too.
But the hardware is good and the quality in general too.
I got it with stock 2.1 from a friend and it was so unbelievably slow. then I updated to 2.2.2 and it got somehow better. Then I flashed Streakdroid 1.5.3 which was worse again and then 1.9 which was ok. I got Streakdroid stable with BB351 but flashed 354. Since then it restarted again and again. So I went to SimpleStreak which is sooo incredibly fast!!!
I think I will stay there for now.
That makes me want to rage...The streak is an amazing phone. Anyone...Well, any guy atleast, that doesn't have pockets that this phone can fit in, is wearing too skinny of jeans. This fits perfectly in all of my pants pockets, even with the 4800mAh battery. Even with the commuter case on it. Fits just fine. And it's an amazing phone.

Jobd or an iphony, I mean, iphoner wrote THAT article just to make other phones including the Dell Streak TABLET/PHONE look bad.
We dont need nobody telling us what we neeeeeed to like or not. They got "little cell syndrome", theyre just jealous "ours is bigger than theirs"
The article is proof positive that size does matter.
Love my Streak 5....cant remember what life was like before it!

Can't live without mine!
Indeed lol. Have used a Streak several times and man is it bad :/ Why else do you think Dell has terminated it?

When will reviewers start receiving units?

At the moment there seems to be a serious lack of reviews. All of the available ones are usually short first impression videos from the unveiling. The only two actual video reviews (and they're honestly not that great) are from PhoneArena and GSMArena. Neither really go into depth, compare the S4 to competitors, or anything else that a potential buyer would want to see.
It's pretty clear that nobody has really received a review unit yet. Android Central would definitely be loud and proud if they had (and they'd also write a kick ass review on it). For some reason I thought I heard a March 29th date that reviewers would begin to receive them, but clearly that hasn't really happened. So does anyone have any idea when we can expect reviewers to receive these devices? My choice between the One and S4 essentially depend on them.

Really not specific enough
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s4-review-914.php
To me it seems lika a lot more then just first impressions, and it's been out for some time already as well. I'm quite certain, that they actually have the review unit, because of all the side-by-side photos taken in their office (matches their usual style), hands-on video that's not done ina a conference room, but in their own little studio and mostly because of the battery tests!! Almost 14h talk time + close to 9h browsing + over 10h video + the charging times in the meanwhile....doubt that they can do that during a short first encounter!!

In my OP I mentioned that it seemed like GSMArena had an S4 but then went on to say it didn't appear that anyone else does.

Sry, couldn't read it out then. only thing about GSMArena what I saw was that their review was not that great...I would disagree with that personally and form the rest of the OP pretty much all I could read out is summed up by your sentence:

I'm not entirely sure why you can't understand what I was asking from my OP. It wasn't for existing review, but for a date that reviewers such as Android Central, Cnet, etc, will begin receiving units to review. Anyway, thanks for the link and I actually did read some of the reviews inside of it.

That much I understood, I was just trying to point out, that they (GSMArena) can't do such a review without a review unit, the russian sites as well.
Anyways my guess is, that all the people who were supposed to get review units got them and who didn't are just waiting for the retail units to do their reviews.

GSMArena and PhoneArena are proven to have received their units. Nobody else has. Android Central has specifically made remarks about waiting to get the S4 (they recently said it should be pretty soon). Reviewers definitely won't have to wait until they retail. Samsung wants positive press from popular review sites for people like us and the general consumers who rely on reviews to convince them to get "Device A" over "Device B."

Ain't argueing with that
I just thought that they'd send out the review unit at the same time, unless they favor some sites over the others. Only thing to do now is to wait for others to get their units as well, and to get enough money to get myself one of these as well
T-minus one week until pre-orders on AT&T. The reviews have to be rolling out any day now...no?
