Is it not possible for a Stock (Google) Android 2.1 for Fascinate - Fascinate General

Just wondering is it not possible for some Genius to make a STOCK android 2.1 Rom for the Fascinate?
This touchwiz is killing me!!!! Yes I bought Launcherpro but knowing that touchwiz is running in the background still KILLS ME!!!
Any Insight is appreciated!!!!!!!

If you installed and are using LauncherPro then TouchWiz launcher is no longer running. It might still be installed, but its likely not active. The fascinate comes with a task manager, why not pop into that and see if its running?
You could always remove/rename the TouchWiz apk files yourself...

Bubs has a vanilla aosp rom if that is your cup of tea. I'm like you on this one, but until we have 2.2 source things have ben at a standstill...

Guess Ill wait till 2.2. Touchwiz cant be disabled or force stopped.
Thanks!

I heard it will crash if you remove tw

no, you get fc at first because a couple of twapps will ber like wtf lol but after a reset everything is ok

Ok, I don't post much on here, but My sammy has been rooted, bloatware gone, including all the TW stuff. I got a bunch of force closes, but. After a reboot all was fine. Anyone wanting to get rid of stock apps should check out the SDX forums. One of the Devs over there created an apk called SDX stock app removal. Works like a champ. Of course as any android owner will tell you some things affect each phone differently. Also let me get rid of hotspot, stock browser, and a few other annoyances that I came across.

latest update prevents you from removing sense...

ok, i just noticed, the most previous update doesnt let you turn sense off...
I was about to make a thread on this too.
Bad news, but not worried because i'm probably gonna end up rooting this baby.
The question is why?
At a glance it appears they quite literally removed the Launcher.apk.
While this is probably a good thing for people who only use HTC sense, since it won't be running in the background..
It sucks for those of us who love android with no frills.
Cmon HTC the point of all this was openness and customization, where did it all go wrong?
If somebody could provide a changelog for the update, i'd be grateful
I disabled the Sense Launcher and using Launcher Pro....
does launcher pro make the phone faster? looking to speed it up a bit, but not sure i wanna root yet( did on past 3 android phones) just no roms look worth it yet. Wish we had a aosp 2.2 or fully working 2.2 or even stock 2.1
To be more specific he meant the stock launcher can no longer be used in place of sense.

Exactly.
It honestly seems like HTC has purposely gone the extra mile to lock us out. Perhaps for all of the emails regarding the 30fps cap.

Why not post it in an email, instead just pop it up top. WTF
Non-sense
Is this another issue that HTC needs emails about because I definitely want the option to turn off sense..
The thread title is misleading you can disable sense. The problem is they removed the vanilla android launcher. But you can most definitely disable sense launcher and use a third party launcher.

Can you still do the following:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbXLsiWNqP8
I'm waiting for the EVO to ship with 2.2 & want to be able to remove sense. I know there is always rooting but it would be nice to be able to do it without concerns of voiding the warranty.
The point of this thread is that we CANT do that. Launcher isn't an option. They removed the apk.
What language should i say this in?
Well. Let's start writing those emails.
Sent from my Evo 4G
Anyway to reinstall that apk file?
What you should be saying is HTC removed the vanilla android launcher. You can still force stop sense and clear it as the default launcher. You just need to install another launcher. Some really good ones are available on the market. I think Launcher + is better than the Android one even better than the froyo one.

Ummm, you CAN do that, just reinstall the launcher or download a different one from the market. They didn't prevent you from using a different launcher other than Sense. Just go download Helix2 which is nearly identical to the stock one plus more, or Launcher pro which super fast. If you really want the stock Laucher just ask for it and someone could probably post it.
It has always been the way it is for me now... all they did was remove the stock Launcher. All you have to do is download a new Launcher and set it as default, very simple and I've had Android for less than a week.
Can someone point me to a download link for the stock launcher apk? much appreciate it

Probably because it is pulled out of /system/app
disabling sense and using the stock launcher was the only way to get my computer to see my phone. i tried launcher pro but my comp will not see my phone now, very very frustrating.

[DISCUSS] Blur-less ROM Comparisons? [With List/Links]

In the last couple of weeks, we've seen a lot of advancements in ROM releases for the X. I don't want to start some kind of flame-war here, but just wondering who has run all, or multiple variations of the available Blur-less ROMS and their opinion of each.
I know of these ROMS:
Tranquility (3.0)

Anyone care to weigh in on their experiences?
I decided to go an make this a list of Blur-less ROMS with links. While most of these have homes other than XDA, I tried to put both the XDA thread link and the "home" link.
Since we are discussing here... I always wanted to know what was the reason you could not remove BLUR??
I mean.. I know the phone wouldn't boot if you removed it WITHOUT a acceptable replacement.
Like I know I removed HTC Sense UI back in the before time and my phone boot looped because I didn't have a another Launcher to replace it with... could this be the same thing?? Could we remove BLUR apps as long as we have a acceptable replacement??
EX. Remove Blur Dialer and replace with Dialer One...or remove Blur Home and replace with LauncherPro....

I have blur home removed and replaced with launcher pro. Do at your own risk though. I know nothing of any other changes that are ok as of yet. I haven't gotten that far.

I'm personally on RubixFocused 0.5 and think it's just great. But I would like to know if some of the others would be worth trying, or if they are all more or less the same.
I know of these ROMS:
1 - Tranquility (Are all of the current ROMS based off of this one?)
2 - Rubix
3 - zapX (Tempted to try this one just because of the name )
4 - Apex

Nice question.
To me the Theme/Rom's do seem very similar. They for the most part delete or freeze a lot of the "blur" packages.
The statement by most chefs is "It's faster". OK how much faster then a 2.2 OTA,rooted, 928Droid themed phone???
Is the boot time "way" faster .Do apps activate in split seconds???
EDIT: Flash Fixed
I hesitate to try the Theme/Roms because most seem to have glitches like "Flash not fully functioning so that I can view weather and radar maps ,as an example.
Zapx does peak my interest though....
I've said it in 2 other forums. The zapX rom is awesome. Its the fastest I've used and I have had just about all of them. To me its about how fast everything reacts. From opening the app drawer, tilting the phone, to activating the camera, which you all know typically takes 4 or 5 seconds. With zapX all of it is almost instantaneous. That's my 2 cents for what its worth.
And by the way. I've had no problems with flash on zapX, only issue was with weatherbug and it was fixed by the creator within a day...

I prefer ApeX. Nearly 100% AOSP. It's the closest thing yet..
I just went from zapX to Apex, to me Apex is snappier, and boots up faster.
they are all pretty much the same but zapX seems to be a little slower than the rest for some reason.
You know you can optimize your apks with xUltimate and essentially your stock ota will be just as snappy.
Add a lil MinFree love... and BOOM!!

Yeah, if you pay nearly five bucks for it and I'm poor, spent all my money on the DX, lol. The free version will run the batch restore but you have to click "Install" and the "Done" for each and every app...it would be easier to write down all my apps and settings on a piece of paper than F with that, lol.

Pulling hair out trying to decide what rom for girlfriend..

I have been snooping around and finally feel comfortable enough to root this phone. She gets off work here in a few hours and were gonna run to the store and pick it up. She sees me messing with my fascinate all the time, flashing this and that and wants me to customize her phone as well. Mainly she wants a Pink theme. I was planning on flashing a custom rom then grabbing a theme, but the development on this phone is out of control lol, you guys have so many more options. I want to keep the phone as stock as possible, and want to retain the blur aspects. She isn't going to be able to troubleshoot the phone on her own if I'm not with her and she has problems, so something very stable, and again, stock-ish.
Would I be better doing a manual deodex on her stock rom and flashing a theme ontop of that? Or are your themes rom specific?

If something goes wrong and she is not able to trouble shoot it, things can get ugly pretty quick with a custom ROM and what not. Not that it happens all the time, not that it happens other then small bugs and quirks but I would be pissed if my phone was not propertly working and no one was around to fix it.
Themes are ROM specific for the X unless you go with a theme for stock ROM, which could be found here. Staying as close to stock, this would be your best bet. There are other icons and animations you can add with Ninjamorph and by placing files here and there and all it takes it being rooted.
I think a rooted, bloat free Droid X is almost just as quick as a custom ROM. You can add little icons packs, stock themes to really customize it. It would be as if you are running a custom ROM.
Thanks, if I can find a theme girlish enough for her I might just go with that.
If I root will she be able to receive ota updates? Im pretty sure after flashing custom roms she will no long be able to access the ota updates, but what about just plain ole rooted stock phones?

Great rom! Built by drod2169. If your gf decides she likes some of the blur components he also built a "blurry" version with some blur in it.

Yes, Rubix is a great rom but you might also want to consider Liberty 1.5. It is also a blurless rom and so far has been running great on my phone. I have tried several roms including rubix and always come back to liberty. It is by far more customizable than any other rom out there. There are also a couple of girly themes that I believe were just ported over.
I would also suggest Liberty 1.5
Primarily so you GF could load this theme:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/li...theme-rockin-rainbows-liberty-has-landed.html
I put this on my Wife's D2 and she loves it.
She doesn't like that theme, but it is a very nicely done complete theme... Still leaning towards rubix, will research liberty more though.

I'm a big fan of liberty. Even if you don't like the stock theme, liberty has really the most intuitive theme system I've seen. Use liberty toolbox, go to themes, then literally look at the screenshot and tap install o. The one you want. No reboots, .zip files, anything. Super simple.

[Q] Question about launchers.

My cousin had a Droid 2 R2D2. I have a Samsung Epic 4g. I was going to show him launcherpro to see if he wanted to use that instead of blur. But he ended up just wanting the blur launcher back. So I went to Settings>applications>manage applications> running, clicked launcherpro, and I couldn't hit the Clear Default button. The only way I could get him back to blur was to uninstall lp. This does the same with adw too. Why is that? When I had adw and lp installed at the same time, I hit the home button and those were the only two options available to set as default. Again, I'm not used to blur, I'm used to touchwiz. I aso tried Home switcher for froyo, to no avail.
Sent from my always stock, froyo Epic
I couldn't tell you why they do that but try Homesmack from the market to set blur as default while another launcher is installed.
Why would anyone prefer the original launcher over adw or lp? Hey to each is his/her own

LOL, no offense to your cousin's parents, but there is no reason on this earth a 10 year old needs a Droid R2D2, or ANY smart phone for that matter. Maybe one of those phones where you can only call preprogrammed numbers and 911 or something....
I'm surprised though. I used to think teaching a 10 year old how to work one of these phones would be easier than when I try to teach my friends and coworkers...
And by the by... I just recently sbf'd back to stock, then rerooted (still stock rom), debloated my phone, made some build.prop tweaks, OC'd to 1.25GHz ulv, and installed launcher pro plus. The phone is running just as smooth and fast as liberty 1.5

[Q] old home apk

i know this probably sounds really weird, but im sure im not the only person. one of the funnest things about owning an evo is the insane number of roms and themes out there. i actually have several different home apps setup so when i get bored with one i can just use froyo home switcher and voila, new home and theme. however recently i kinda started missing the old look. i've never been too fond of the htc sense ui. i just remember on my g1 and my mt3g the donut and cupcake home launchers. i've found a couple links to home apk's like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867060 but the apk apparently isn't compatible with froyo cuz it wouldn't install (failed parsing). can i use adb and force an older incompatible app to install perhaps to the /system/app/ folder (already know how to do it so i don't need instructions just wondering if it can be done) any help is appreciated. ive even thought about just searching for the png's in the apk files and switching the drawer tab and drawer background out for the old style png's. please and thanks
ps i was contemplating posting this under android/general but seeing as it has to be compatible with evo and froyo i figured this might hail better results
Why don't you just install adw from the market(its froyo compatible)? Plus adw has tons of free themes; It's about as close as your going to get to the stock home launcher from aosp. There's also a stock home launcher in the market you can download (both free) if you search "launcher".
No you cant install those old launchers from previous android builds it will just force close if its not froyo compatible.

Thanks yea I kinda figured, thought maybe I could extract the apk and maybe update some parts to make it work. Yea I have adw ex already, its alright. Still kinda miss the aosp cupcake look but time changes everything. I think I should just start learning to develop apps myself instead of always leaning on everyone else.

Look at HElauncher, it has a couple and is a light launcher that actually has the closest thing to a vanilla launcher.
