2.2 on Vibrant? - Vibrant General

i have a captivate running froyo, but is there a leaked froyo out for the vibrant or no?

if I was a mod I'd lock this thread

You can get froyo in the vibrant thro a custom rom.

This is why people rage about this...There are 20 gazillion 2.2 threads...and one search button. Search always loses

All the roms available for the phone are on the first two pages of the development side. Not like people are hiding **** keeping full 2.2 roms to themselves, that's why these threads are stupid.
Lol at researching afterwards haha.

No 2.2 for the vibrant yet... No eta either. Just be patient, we will get it eventually.
In the mean time you should try one of the two froyo roms that are in the forum.

looks like 2.2 for vibrant may come shortly though. we'll see.

No its just the fact that no one these days can figure out how to use the "Search" function & there are all of these useless threads that pop up. (Hint: This thread)

+1 Agree, This community has become a little bitter - Why ???

People are bitter and frustrated because every day dozens of people are posting new threads about topics that have been answers, already have dozens of threads about the same topic, the answers are in the sticky, or just general whining. I personally have never seen a forum where so many people create new threads about the same exact thing numerous times a day.
The fact that a huge percentage of threads that are questions could be answered by using the search function is also a source of frustration. All of this crowds up the forum making it harder to find people with new issues, actually finding GOOD information (how many times do we need to hear that a TMO rep said something was coming in a week? really), and trying to find legitimate news.
If people on here would display even the most basic forum etiquette, it would be much, much better for everyone.

I do wish there was a little more active moderation in this forum. As for the OP's suggestion that people calm down, spending any time in this forum ~1 day before the JI6 update dropped would have seen no less than 2 Froyo threads in the front page, and there have been by last count 7 within the last month.

This won't happen until they invent the "physical beatdown over IP" protocol. The Internet is what is it because being polite isn't required to escape physical confrontation unscathed. It's easy to be willfully ignorant and to shrug off attempts to be educated, and it's just as easy to browbeat people who flippantly ignore general etiquette. Copernicus would be rolling over in his grave to know that everyone on the Internet thinks the universe revolves around them.

I like how people who just registered an account last month and have a few posts under their belt feel like they can bash anyone who posts here, regardless of the topic.
If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all. If you see a thread with a title that you find offensive why do you then go into that thread and proceed to post in it. Seems to me your point would be better served by ignoring the thread rather than spam bumping it with useless information and insults.

PLEASE
PLEASE
PLEASE
Stop posting USELESS, POINTLESS, BLOATING, POSTS!!!
I'm not trying to be hostile or anything but posts like....
"booting it now!" and "waiting for files to copy back to my sd card." and "I'm only 50% downloaded, can't wait!!"
While yes... it's good you are excited, but honestly, 99% of us don't give a damn. It makes it freakin' IMPOSSIBLE to navigate through this forum!!! And I don't want to hear anybody cry "Search" either. vBulletin search is NOT the best out there. I think yahoo Boolean searches from 1997 were better. And you have to search with the most basic of keywords, and those keywords (like apps2sd) are used in so many POINTLESS posts that its again, USELESS.
I mean, there is basically NO moderation here. It's like XDA Hero CDMA forums isn't even here. Things just run amock.
Sorry if this post came off as a bit hard, but come on. I mean, COME ON. Let's ALL work together to make this forum a little easier to find information. Is your post asking a question or adding anything to the community? No? Then think twice about posting in a [ROM] thread. I know the Devs appreciate the positive re-inforcement of their ROMs and they deserve it! However I dont think ROM threads are the place for that, NOT ONLY THAT, but when threads such as DC's start as a 2.0 and then are updated to 2.1 then 2.2 then 2.3 etc etc etc and the original post of the thread is changed instead of creating a new thread, so therefor the first 200 pages aren't even remotely relevant to 2.3 they're still from 2.0!
Ok, I'm sorry...
[/RANT]
i'm not trying to be hostile or anything, and i don't have anything against this or you, but really.
there have been so many threads JUST like this before. they all say the same thing.
in the end, they become one of those 'useless' posts, because no matter how many times you say this, its probably not going to stop people from making useless posts. sorry
AGREED! And it didn't come of hard to me!
Plus, those posts are more useful than this one. At least they give the dev, who worked for hours or days or months on the ROM, the satisfaction of knowing people appreciate it.
This post, on the other hand, accomplishes nothing.

thats definitely the worst thing about this forum. we don't have any active mods on this one. most other forums do. not us.

Yeah although u are correct in ur intent. The best way to get these issues taken care of is for our forum to get a mod that actually spends time here and doesn't mind being hated. I personally have tried to get them to make me a mod. But I guess u gotta be someone special to get that privilege. As I always do what they ask of me then never here a reply ontheir decision. Our forum is held down by the fact we don't have subforums like general, themes and apps, q&a and so on. But yeah the only way to get are issues resolved is to contact the mods and ask them to help us.

ROFL This post made me laugh. Its so true, those posts are useless and offer nothing to the Rom maker.
I like the idea of the developers having something like a discuss thread where the good jobs and such can continue be posted for the roms. It becomes pretty difficult looking through the thread to find useful tidbits when it gets to be over 50 pages or so.
I do agree that having a moderator would be of great benefit too. +1 for toast becoming a mod.
U cant fix stupid :-/ people think posts counts make them cool. Posting one word replies followed by 10chars. Itll never be fixed, too many idiots. Just be happy we dont have that gay rep system.
Personally I like treasure hunts, so I am pretty happy the way things are. Lol.
Joking aside, I think that this is one of the strongest online communities/forum that I have joined and cared about. I think that the slack the moderators allow has allot to do with how I feel about this community. People are allowed to have a personality, a opinion, and a sense of humor here. It is very nice to come to a forum like this.
The way I read the long ROM threads is read the first page then go to last page and work my way backwards... works well for me. I see the updates the ROM creator posted and then the latest information being passed along that way.
Thinking about what i read now........ can't wait to finish..
LOL no really i do wish we could kindly ask the Devs to start a new thread upon each major revision and maybe put a link in the new thread to the previous version's tread. then post like mine about may not become as frustrating to read do to the lower volume of them.

Actually he is trying to make this forum more manageable. Which IMO you would have to be blind not to realiese. Seriously 300+ pages are really hard to go though. And sometimes in threads ill see a theme or something cool and ill feel like good thing I read every post in that thread or I wouldnt have that. It feels like some really cool stuff gets barried in the threads.

Damageless is trying to fix finding updates and themes with his updater tool. The updates will come to you! How cool is that? He is also going to try to help other devs to include a updater on their ROMs. Although this will not fix how cluttered the threads are in this forum it will assist you in finding the latest and greatest ways to trick out your Hero.
the only thing that should change is just every time a fix is found the OP should just take the fix and put it in the first post. People should be able to flash a rom and have the fixes all in the first post, this way people dont ask repeat questions. Whether or not everyone likes it people are always going to post "useless" stuff, which can be viewed as appreciative thanks or just people showing their excitement. I personally like xda a lot because people have personality its not all just straight discussion about a rom or anything like that.
Maybe we just could have a separate subforum for each major ROM? that way there could be the threads for people rambling and such, and separate threads for bug fixes, releases, etc.
I'm new 'round here (obviously), and I have to agree, finding the information I need has been difficult with every thread being hundreds pages. Finding that one post of someone with the same problem as me (and a solution) is a monumental task.
Just give each rom author a thread for people to leave their thanks, and keep the rom threads to discussing the rom.
+frickin1 for this thread. I think we should just start a poll to vote for someone here to be a mod, and just make the current XDA moderators accept that we have that mod... it's just ridiculous how it is right now.
what about in-thread stickies...there has to be a plugin for it somewhere...where you can nominate posts as thread stickies and all of the thread stickies, once approved by the OP, move to the beginning of the thread, so it would go
1st Post: OP
2nd Post: First approved helpful post
3rd Post: 2nd approved.... etc
that way all of the useful stuff will be right on that first page. If it's not already a plugin...it should be.

...and yet you don't seem to understand how annoying it is for everyone else, who came here to try and find information, but struggle because of how many threads there are on the same subject?
The rules say search before starting a new thread. They say that for a reason (to keep down the clutter).
The purpose of forums is to encourage discussions with people of common interests, in a common location. Starting a new thread goes completely against this concept, since you now have to go to multiple locations... Monitoring multiple threads for news on Gingerbread (or anything else) is a PIA.
The whole board is full of people asking the same stuff over and over again. It's not because they don't know how to search. It's because there's just way too many threads on the same subject, making searching a nightmare. Not only is information dispersed, you also have a much higher potential for conflicting information...
As a Sr Systems Engineer, I would've thought you'd understand about duplication of information being being a major obstacle in configuration management?
Thanks for helping, though... :sarcasm:

PSA to everyone with a battery:

Your phone is a personal device. You use your phone differently compared to everyone else who also owns an Evo. Different use yields different results, regardless of kernel, ROM, or kernel/ROM combination.
There is no universal fix. There is no God Mode kernel. Only you can decide which modification or set of modifications will work best for your usage.
Now: can we sticky this in all the Evo forums please? I, along with a lot of others, are reeeeal tired of seeing the kernel/battery-related questions flood ROM threads and General. Now, there's even a thread posing as a ROM thread in dev, asking the same rehashed question (which truly has no answer). It's getting out of hand.
I'm glad you thought that creating a spam thread about being tired of spam threads was the appropriate way to go.

I lol'd.
For real, OP. The entire purpose of these forums is for people to come in and ask their questions, and it's because their device is their own that they have these questions. Scowering around for battery fixes is what's gotten me the usage I get now. To pop in and say "everyone stop whining about the battery, fix it yourself, kthxbai" is what I would call a little much, not the people who come in with questions, or even better, with answers.
...and you never know... God mode just may not have been discovered yet!

But why is it that we can rage about the fee threads, lack of 4G threads, "how do I root lolz" and other mundane topics, but this one is special?
if you're at the point where you understand that kernels and ROMs will effect your battery, then you should already know the information in the OP. It's the influx of people who are doing no research and expect their hand held and guided to the holy grail of tweaks that's creating such garbage.
Bottom line: time and time again, the kernel/tweak topic floods threads and forums. Time and time again, its the same answer: Results may vary.
I acknowledge the fact that there is no universal kernel/rom fix. That being said, I find it fascinating to read about people's kernel/rom combinations.
I'm using Myns RLS4B and Ziggy Kernel. I'll probably try another one in a few days. This one gets me about 9 hours of moderate/heavy use

*** Was your thread recently deleted? Read on to find out why ***

If you suddenly cannot find your thread in Vibrant General, it is because I deleted it. Along with over 60 total in the last 2 hours. There is no need for everybody to create a NEW thread related to the release of Froyo OTA for the Vibrant.
Anyone not following this simple request will receive an infraction for the first offense, and then a forum ban for future offenses.
Thank you for your cooperation,
NATF
While I understand that point behind it, you deleted the first REAL thread about its release - that you would need to be on kies mini to receive it, that is what I do not understand. That, and the 5 posts about it on the first page of the DEV section that are still there.

There is no reason why a new thread has to be created because it has been released. The "Froyo coming tomorrow" thread can be used for this purpose, and that OP (or myself) can edit the title accordingly.
There are 7 multi-page kies ota threads on the 1st page of the general section, if this was done for the reason stated, why were those left in place. I never saw a notice posted that any exciting news would be deleted.
EDIT: KA6 must have a new feature because in lieu of a response, I actually heard crickets..

My two cents: Not only is this policy being applied inconsistently, but it's not being done with any reasoned judgment behind the decisions. Jellette's thread was legit IMO--it was helpful and informative and the topic deserved a clean break from the Froyo anticipation thread. ("Froyo is here" /= "They said Froyo is coming").
Let me preface this by saying I think the mods do an exceptional job here, with that said...
I personally believe it is wiser to be fair, rather than consistent. I am not advocating special treatment for Heathen, but given his contributions in the past, present and future... perhaps deletion of his (or any other key contributors) thread should be met with a higher level of scrutiny.
Just my $.02
So umm why were all the thread not just merged? unless there was a bunch of rules being broken I fail to see the reason to delete threads when there is a thread merger tool in the mod control panel.
I do not have a Vibrant, regardless of what TL chooses to believe. As for why certain threads were removed and others were not, that is because I haven't gotten to them yet. After deleting 60+ threads, I needed a break.

The job you guys do is not an enviable task... and I think you guys get it right 99.999% of the time. I just think that you guys can exercise a higher level of discretion when it comes to deleting the post of a quality contributor... especially given context.
You think we can lock this thread now? It is obvious that there will be neither any progress towards to a resolution of an unevenly distributed unwritten policy made, nor will there be a retraction made by the Mod, and this is only going to end in an even more unfair refraction or banning.

I will close this thread in a few minutes. However, in the interest of compromise, you can create a new discussion thread. If you want to, and I will not close/delete it. However, this is with the understanding that any other threads, regardless of who the OP is, will be removed without notice.
Fair compromise?
To be honest, I pushed my boundries a little here. I will respect your original decision and not repost a new topic. I understand, really, with the flood of posts that came through that there was no way to determine what was what.
I believe my respecting your decision is a more appropriate compromise.

sorry i flipped out, i kind of took my frustration out on you. it was so annoying to see a new froyo thread pop up every 2 hours. and the humor ones are just as bad^^^^
the reason its important is because its not fair to members who are posting unique threads, some who need help with problems, to have their threads get buried almost instantaneously beneath these duplicate, garbage, unproductive threads. and i support and applaud the mod who finally cracked down on this.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed an increased number of bumped ancient threads for no reason at all ppl bashing on threads for no reason and people posting in wrong sections did the mods go on vacation or something lol

I'll agree with that.IMO it's just that this phone is a little long in the tooth, and a lot of the really good devs have moved on. Also a lot of the people that were really helpful(not saying all of them, there are still some that help.)have moved on to other phones, and if you look at the sigs. of the mods they are involved with many other phones which eats up a lot of they're time. And I think they're leaving some of the policing to us unless it gets out of hand, like over they're in the thread where it got a little heated....
I'm only posting here because I liked the thread title
I kinda agree with you, I noticed the same thing about the necro bumping.
Another thing, is what happened to the search button?? It seems to have disappeared lately
btw (numder =/= number)
Also Bierce22.. does this thread have anything to do with that deleting emails thread in the Dev section?

you saw that lol...
and yes.
Also fowatine or whatever his name is really pissed me off yesterday when he started bashing my thread "help switching to a modified prl" when he didint try to read what was going on.
hey does anyone want to nominate me for a mod ill clean up this town......
jk lol

Yeah I gotta say it's pretty ridiculous lately. No **** I didnt post on xda for about a year, I just looked around and read things and figured stuff out. Yes we were all noob at one point, but that didn't forgive all things. I can't wait to get my evo 3d
sent from a series of tubes.

You must come from the unix world , to be able to figure linux . Coming from DEC's VMS world , unix never made sense to me .LoL
Also a lot of the grabassing is being done by "senior" members, remember "you can't fix stupid, but ignorance can be taught"
The biggest reason for the influx of new users to the Hero forum is because the phone has become so outdated (especially with Sprint no longer selling it). People are always looking to get the most out of their purchase, and many will wait until their contract or warranty has expired to being modifying their devices.
EDIT: Also, the more cluttered the forum becomes, the more difficult it can be for a new user to search and find what they need. There is so much clutter in the forums now that it could conceivably take hours to find out all the information on all of the available modifications. You could attempt to search for a solution to an issue, only to find several threads saying "please search for a solution" and one thread actually stating the solution. The time when senior users stuck to only posting informative, concise responses has passed.

Don't even start. I often am able to offer assistance but decline to do so simply because despite not having the time to search, some users seem to also not have the time to type a properly worded post/question.
