Wireless tether. Laptop sees it, incredible can't. Why? - Fascinate General

Just wondering why my incredible can't see my network when I run wireless tether.
My laptop has no problem. So what is different?
Sent from Chad's Dinc

I'm guessing because android isn't ad-hoc supported although I thought there was a work around on this site.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App & yes I'm a chick.

Thanks.
I will have a look around.

Did a search and can't find it.
Anyone have any ideas about a workaround?
Sent from Chad's Dinc

I use a program called barnacle legacy, and it sets up an ad-hoc network. I had to use this instead of the apk posted around here because that one created a computer-to-computer network, which my work laptop won't connect to (domain enrolling and all that.)
I'd say give that app a shot and get back to us.

wireless tether is ad-hov connections not interface; there's a big difference in the two.
computers can connect to both while cell phone's can only connect to interface connections.

How did you get that to work? I always got an error but it would be connected but no movement.

Infrastructure mode is supported on droid incredible. dont know how they did it but i owned one so i know its possible.

Thanks for the replies.
Here is what I want to do...
I deactivated my incredible to get this fascinate.
I run wireless tether on the fascinate and would like to use the hotspot created to use the incredible.
For instance I could put the inc in it's windshield mount and get data to run navigation through the wireless network created from the fascinate.
I would love some help or at least to know if it can or cannot be done.
Great forum.
Fascinate oc1.2 for now

I just downloaded it from the market and ran it. Maybe it doesn't work on droid 2.
Theres another version apparently. The Legacy version was like a good version that worked for a lot of people, and I guess his newest version was something that didn't work for some, but worked for others.

If you're rooted, try the newest version of this:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Works great on my Vibrant.
Works excellent on Fascinate too.
Nevermind, I tried it on my desktop with an older version, and my laptop isn't able to find anything right now for some reason
Use barnacle legacy. The wireless tether apk link posted earlier only sets up computer-to-computer networks while barnacle sets up adhoc.

I'm using this on the fascinate and it works. Only issue is that it sets up a adhoc network instead of infrastructure. My laptop can still connect and get on the net so I'm ok with it.
Just started using this... worked like a charm. This has probably been addressed, but I have to ask to ease my mind. This won't incur any extra charges, correct?
If you are rooted then no...free...must be rooted...otherwise you have to sign up for a 30 dollar a month plan before it is unlocked...I'm a verizon rep (best buy mobile) I have a rooted dinc that I develop for...

Computer-to-computer & as-hoc networks are the same thing.
The official 3g hotspot application allows for infrastructure networks and greater security.
Has anyone managed to get the DroidX method of resetting the radio with the hotspot open to get it free working yet?

Wireless Tethering

Is anyone else experiencing problems with the wireless tether connection? My connection is showing up but only allows limited connectivity from my evo to my computer and can not access the web. I am flustered with this thing bc it is one of the reasons why I wanted to root!
try to find and download the latest wireless tether .apk
i have the new version. i believe it actually came out this morning. wireless tethering-pre10....
Then try a not so new version. Different versions seem to work better with different setups.
Check your binary codes or make sure you are up to date with version

I had the same issue...I posted it in the Q&A section......never could get an IP....went back to Pre-9 and things are fine.
The pre 7 works great for me. I believe it's when Evo support was first added.

It happened the same to me. Pre10 doesn't work with the EVO. Pre9 works fine.
Man I have deleted pre 10 and installed and set up the Sept 5th version of pre9 and still the same damn thing. Connects with limited access but no internet connection! I enable access control and it tells me on my phone that my computer has connected. I'm really unsure why I can not get the internet connection to work. It's driving me nuts

Wireless tether 4 root and Xbox live

Just wondering if anyone else is using the wireless tether app for their 360? I didn't think it would work since it doesn't work for wii but I just tried to connect and it worked, been playing multiplayer halo reach on it all week!
*disclaimer need the new xboxes I think, but maybe old one with the wifi adapter thing
I don't have a wifi xbox, but when My internet was down once I used my phone as wifi for my laptop, then shared my laptop's interent via cable... worked fairly well.
actually, wireless tether 2.06 should work for xbox or wii... it's in infrastructure mode on these phones. On older phones (like I came from a hero) it could only do ad hoc
I've used it for my 360...mostly black ops..but it works

i was hoping some one could help me out, or at least point me in the right direction here. I'm trying to connect through my droid x. It's rooted and i have wireless tether for root users. I've watched videos and read forums and followed them step by step. I've also tried pdanet and internet sharing through my computer and cannot get that to work either. Like i said i've watched videos and followed them exactly so i will take any help i can get. Thank you.

Are you picking up the adhoc network on the xbox?
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
i can pick up my droid x's wireless network, or atleast it shows up when i scan for wireless networks. and when i try and connect it cannot connect to "androidtether" because it cannot find the IP addresses. so as for the ad hoc networks i'm not entierly sure. I'm kinda new at this type of stuff so you'll have to fogive me. But under configure connections it shows up as "infrastructure" as other forums has said it should.

No Ad-Hoc Connections

I just bought the Motorola Xoom and activated at least for a month with verizon. I tried using Wireless Tether from my samsung fascinate, which works fine with my wife's IPAD, but the xoom does not show up.
Anybody knows if the motorola xoom is locked to "infrastructure" wifi and doesn't allow ad-hoc connections? Or better yet anybody has a way around it?
Mine is tethering thro my evo...not sure what's different.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Yeah me either. I know the samsung fascinate appears on my laptop as an ad-hoc connection, is the reason why i ask.
Not all tethering is created equal. Hotspots and various phones act different.
Im in the same boat with my moto droid. Adhoc is what the wifi tether app creates on my phone too. I wonder if newer phones, or other programs can create an artificial hotspot?

I'm using the built in tethering. I run CM 7
I just successfully tethered with my Nexus One (CM7)
tried the wireless tether for my evo 4g and it works.. maybe you need to update the app?
If anyone has a jailbroke iPhone and using MyWi. I'd be interested in knowing if the Xoom can connect to it.
I know it's an AdHoc connection and plan to use it when they release the wifi version of the Xoom

This is because the droid x supports infastructure mode, same with cm 7.just because you have wifi tether doesn't mean you have infastructure, only some phones have support for it .
There are ways to unlock the fascinate hotspot to be free and that supports infastructure.

Yes. apparently the only option for samsung fascinate is to hack verizon's app, heres the link for those who want to try it:

Doesn't work on my Moto Droid... I have to use the Wireless Tether app in Bluetooth mode. It'll work, for now.

Wireless Tether

Is there a way to have our Xoom connect to the wireless tether ad-hoc instead of having to uses native 3G mobile hot spot app on fascinate. I know when I had the galaxy tab someone made a wpa.supplicant (think that's how it was spelled) file to put somewhere in /system/? So it could connect to phones using wireless tether.

Only if your Xoom is Rooted can you connect to Ad Hoc after a minor hack.
Root your phone and use wireless tether 3.0
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
As everyone else as said before, the only way right now is through rooting.
Root your phone. It's easier and you can share with things other than your xoom then.

Have any of you been able to connect to an ad-hoc connection with a xoom? Most of the connections have been made through handsets that do not use ad hoc mode.

What "minor hack"?????
His phone is rooted already if hes already using the Wireless Tether App from the market.
He just needs to install the newest beta which has infrastructure mode instead of Ad-Hoc, and the Xoom will identify it without any hacks on the Xoom.

Thanks for the input, but these apps are phone specific. I'm well aware of the wireless tether apps, both for root and the experimental 3.0. I've tried just about everything out there and can't get the Xoom to see my CDMA Hero running AOSP 2.3.3. Even the bluetooth tether will not connect. My laptop sees it fine, my Xoom sees an EVO that uses wireless tether. I'm afraid I may have to ditch the old Hero...
You have used 3.0 pre 4¿ that's what works for me
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
Thanks again, pre 4 errors out. It does not support cdma hero. I'll b looking into settings on the Xoom now.
