Thanks for any help

actually there is, lemme find the link:
well cant find it, but if u search harder than me u will. someone made a flashable .zip that removes tmobiles crap from the boot up animation

with original galaxy S boot/shutdown animation & sound

Ok I did this and it worked!
Samsung 2.2 (Official kies install) rooted, with clockwork recovery (ROM Manager installed and flashed).
Simply copy that to your sdcard (internal).
Then reboot into recovery mode:
Shut down phone hold down all three buttons, etc
Then reinstall packages twice.
Then install zip from sdcard
select the file you copied
and whala!
Thanks guys! I hated that crap

Do you have to rename the file to Update.zip?

No, there's an option that says "install zip from SDCard"
Just move the .zip to your internal SD card, go into clockwork, and flash it from that option.

Im one of those who were fond of the T-Mobile's boot and shutdown animation but I gotta say the galaxy S one is awesome sauce.

Does it work on 2.2?

sorry, wrong thread

No how-to install DamageControl?

I'm not necessarily a n00b, I just rooted no problem. However, I have seen NOTHING explaining how to install a custom rom for my hero. Am I just missing something painstakingly obvious here?
I have the new DamageControl but I have no idea what to do with it..
Help?
lol
do you have a recovery image? to boot into like "recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2"? if you do place the .zip on your sd card, and boot into the recovery and then click on flash zip>then select the zip, and it should install by itself.
Check the wikis at the top of the sub-forum

Installing Custom Rom
(Reference Root/ROM FAQ
0. Create a nandroid backup!
1. Copy rom (do not unzip) to the root of your sdcard using one of the various methods.
I found it easy to simply mount my SD card and then drag the file into the root directory. Also, if you are wondering whta is the "root directory" of your SD card, it is the main, top level directory. For example, on a computer the root folder of the C: directory is C:\
2. Go to the recovery program by either typing "reboot recovery" from an adb shell or by powering off the phone and holding Home while you power it on.
3. Scroll down to "Apply sdcard: choose zip" and select the zipped rom. Press the home button to confirm you want to write it.
4. After it finishes (takes several minutes) click "Reboot system now".
I fail.... i restored my nandroid after installing DamageControl w/o fully understanding what the nandroid was... lol..

A little confused
I got my HTC Hero rooted just fine. The DamageControl installed just fine and I chose the reboot now option from the recovery menu. The device seems to be stuck in an endless rebooting cycle. It shows the sprint animation, goes to the white HTC quietly brilliant screen, that screen flashes a couple of times within a few seconds and then it goes back to the Sprint animation and does it all over again.
Any ideas or similar experiences?

Disregard this message. I did a wipe and installed RA-heroc-v.1.6.2 and it's all working fine now.

Anyone know why I cant get unreovked 3 to stick?

I have a rooted phone with 2.0.2.1
I downladed and installed Unrevoked 3 and it said "Done" and put me in the clockwork recovery saying 2.0.2.4
But anytime I go into rom manager it shows 2.0.2.1 and then when I reboot back into recovery it shows me back at 2.0.2.1
Is Rom Manager flashing me back?
Make sure you don't have an "update.zip" leftover on your SD card.

Getting rid of that .zip before hand should do the trick?
Ya know what, come to think of it I just did a Nandroid backup before hand and it might have been placed back on the sd card.
When I get home later I can try it again thanks.
No beforehand needed, just delete it now.
And nandroid backup wouldn't have written it to your SD, you probably updated from within ROM Manager at some point.

So guys I need or don't need the update.zip file before running unrevoked3?
And that is what would prevent this from sticking for me?

When you say that you reboot back into recovery are you rebooting with Rom Manager or are you doing the volume down + power button way?
Rom manager. Maybe I will boot into recovery the other way and see.
Ok guys quick update I appologize just used a quick boot app to get in recovery and its fine. Guess it is just a rom manager thing.

[Q] DX Stuck on M/Clockworkmod Recovery after theme install.

Hi guys. I am having a bit of an issue here.
I just got my DX a couple days ago. I have a buddy that has been into modding with his D1 for a while, and he recently got a Fascinate. He convinced me to try doing some stuff with my phone...
I rooted my phone successfully. I then wanted to install the DX Invertnito theme. It said I needed to Deadex my phone. I got the xultimate 2.2.2 deodex pack and successfully deodexed my phone. I then downloaded the zip file for the Invertnito theme. I put the zip file on my phones sd card as stated in the instructions. I then downloaded Koush's DX Bootstrapper from the market and Clockwork Rom manager. Installing the theme automatically through the rom manager didnt work, but the phone did boot normally nonetheless. I then decided to go directly through the Bootstrapper app [clicked the recovery mode right on the menu out of two options]. The phone instantly shut down, then booted into the clockworkmod recovery menu. I followed the instructions given to install the Invertnito from the .zip file on the zd card. I clicked install on that file. Everything seemed to work fine to this point. Installation successful.
Unfortunately, now the phone will not boot at all.... It loads the Motorola M logo and stays there. I've tried waiting for 30 min on the logo and it just doesn't move. If I remove/replace the battery, the phone will then load the clockworkmod recovery menu again just like it did after it shutdown from running the first time. I've tried clearing cache, restarting the phone, replacing the battery 20 times. Always stuck on boot M screen. Sometimes it will go the the Motorola bootloader screen, but when i click reboot system, it just gets stuck on the M logo.
Any help would be appreciated here. I'm hoping I haven't bricked my phone somehow. I didn't expect this as I can't find anyone else who installed this same theme have the same problem. Is there something I can do to get it back to normal? Is it possible to somehow get my OS back to clean stock and go from there?
Thanks
Did you do a nandroid backup before loading the theme?
Unfortunately, no. I just read of someone having a similar issue though. Said he used RSD Lite 4.8 and an SBF and he was able to get back into his phone. Not sure how to dgo about any of that though.

if you did the OTA 2.2 DO NOT USE THE 2.1 SBF!!!!
if your on the leaked 2.2 and you try the 2.2 sbf but get errors due the 2.1, if you get a boot loop after that you need to go into the stock recovery and factory reset, hold home button and

[Q] When you DON'T understand instructions

hey guys ... first ...THANKS
next - i am so green at this until i don't even know how to ask the questions ...but, i'll try ...
as the title says, i DON'T understand some of the instructions ...and my reading, etc., has not given the answers. ...and, it's MY fault, not yours.
so,here goes:
i DID root my phone (droid 2 w/matt's 2.5 ....yeaaaa
i DID go on market and buy basics (titanium backup, kouch bootstrap, super manager, etc....
i DID reboot my phone & tried to follow instructions & load NEXTHEME on my phone .....i DID put my phone in loop that showed "Matt 4542 Epic) over & over & over.........etc.
now....Exactly What does this mean?
3. Install .zip from sdcard, (i thought this was nextheme zip ..
choose zip from sdcard. (i thought i had already chosen
4. Install NexTheme. ////( you gotta be kidding ..i've already installed it twice!
5. Enjoy! ...i can't, my phone is looping!!!!
also, what is the update zip?? ..i thought i was updating with nextheme???
you can see that i'm a novice....would you please help an old man??
thanks
question ...could i just load this theme to my sd card and use metamorph pro to install it?
3. Install .zip from sdcard, (i thought this was nextheme zip)
NexTheme is a zip file. This is simply giving you the option to choose an install location.
choose zip from sdcard. (i thought i had already chosen
You are picking the file that you are going to actually install. You would select NexTheme.zip
4. Install NexTheme. ////( you gotta be kidding ..i've already installed it twice!
The other 2 options are preparing the file and locating where it is. This is the last option of not having to install. Basically this is a final screen for a yes or no.
5. Enjoy! ...i can't, my phone is looping!!!!
Did you clear you data cache?
could i just load this theme to my sd card and use metamorph pro to install it?
I do not think there is a metamorph version of this theme out currently but I will ask draya1986.
what is the update zip?? ..i thought i was updating with nextheme???
You are installing NexTheme not updating it. Also, it would take out the option of having to select the nextheme.zip that you choose for the install option if it were named update.zip and in the root directory I believe.
ok, cool, ... this time i will clear the cache & try it
thanks for the reply ... and for the explanations ...

well, i tried again ...SIiiiigggghhh
and, once again i'm watching Epic by Matt 4542.....it loops, loops, and, every now & then, shows the main screen...gives me hope that it will completely boot, ...the, Epic Matt 4542 again, and, again, and, again, and.......
i rebooted into recovery from kouch's bootstrap program,
i backed everything up (i hope), i wiped cache, then, loaded nextheme zip (2 4 5 final), rebooted and Epic Matt 4542
Waaaaaa ,,,what now?
nextheme 2.4.5 is not the correct theme to use. I believe EPIC 2.7 is based off 2.3.15 not 2.4.5 so it will have framework issues. Try using nextheme 2.2

If somebody doesn't beat me to it I will post two links when I get to my computer that will root your phone VERY easily. For now, Google "odin" and download and install it to your PC. It's a program you will be needing if you plan to flash custom roms and kernels and to root it. Also, plug your phone into a PC and let the drivers install on your computer.

I answered you in the Comm ROM 2.0 thread letting you know Comm ROM is rooted and your phone will be rooted if you flash the ROM, but here is a long-winded guide to just install ROOT:
If you just want to root the phone, you will need to download the Samsung USB drivers for the Fascinate to your computer. After downloading the file, double click on the downloaded file to install the drivers:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NZS8BF7E
Download superuser 2.3.6.1 + busybox 1.19 and place it on the base of the sd card:
http://adrynalyne.us/files/odin/su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip
Load ODIN onto your computer:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J4Y10P6G
Flash this CWM recovery in the PDA section of ODIN:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/06al8prkgj29gps/cwm-recovery-ALL-3-30-FIX.tar
Boot directly to CWM by holding the volume up, volume down, and power buttons until you see the samsung logo flashes twice then let go of all three buttons, use volume buttons to scroll to install zip from sd card, power button, scroll to choose zip from sd card, power button, scroll to su + busybox file, power button. When that finishes installing, menu soft key until you are back at the main CWM menu where reboot system now will be highlighted, power button and phone will reboot.

Stay with 2.5 for now. It will flash anything. Now, find the rom and kernel you want and download them then put them on the base of your SD card. Boot to recovery, wipe data/cache/dalvik cache and then flash and reboot. If you want to flash a voodoo kernel, after you flash the kernel, while in recovery find the voodoo section in the main menu and enable lagfix and switch system lagfix conversion to yes. Then reboot and profit.
