[Q] When you DON'T understand instructions - Droid 2 General

hey guys ... first ...THANKS
next - i am so green at this until i don't even know how to ask the questions ...but, i'll try ...
as the title says, i DON'T understand some of the instructions ...and my reading, etc., has not given the answers. ...and, it's MY fault, not yours.
so,here goes:
i DID root my phone (droid 2 w/matt's 2.5 ....yeaaaa
i DID go on market and buy basics (titanium backup, kouch bootstrap, super manager, etc....
i DID reboot my phone & tried to follow instructions & load NEXTHEME on my phone .....i DID put my phone in loop that showed "Matt 4542 Epic) over & over & over.........etc.
now....Exactly What does this mean?
3. Install .zip from sdcard, (i thought this was nextheme zip ..
choose zip from sdcard. (i thought i had already chosen
4. Install NexTheme. ////( you gotta be kidding ..i've already installed it twice!
5. Enjoy! ...i can't, my phone is looping!!!!
also, what is the update zip?? ..i thought i was updating with nextheme???
you can see that i'm a novice....would you please help an old man??
thanks
question ...could i just load this theme to my sd card and use metamorph pro to install it?

3. Install .zip from sdcard, (i thought this was nextheme zip)
NexTheme is a zip file. This is simply giving you the option to choose an install location.
choose zip from sdcard. (i thought i had already chosen
You are picking the file that you are going to actually install. You would select NexTheme.zip
4. Install NexTheme. ////( you gotta be kidding ..i've already installed it twice!
The other 2 options are preparing the file and locating where it is. This is the last option of not having to install. Basically this is a final screen for a yes or no.
5. Enjoy! ...i can't, my phone is looping!!!!
Did you clear you data cache?
could i just load this theme to my sd card and use metamorph pro to install it?
I do not think there is a metamorph version of this theme out currently but I will ask draya1986.
what is the update zip?? ..i thought i was updating with nextheme???
You are installing NexTheme not updating it. Also, it would take out the option of having to select the nextheme.zip that you choose for the install option if it were named update.zip and in the root directory I believe.

ok, cool, ... this time i will clear the cache & try it
thanks for the reply ... and for the explanations ...

Not a worry. Please let us know if you are still having issues/questions and we will do what we can to assist.

well, i tried again ...SIiiiigggghhh
and, once again i'm watching Epic by Matt 4542.....it loops, loops, and, every now & then, shows the main screen...gives me hope that it will completely boot, ...the, Epic Matt 4542 again, and, again, and, again, and.......
i rebooted into recovery from kouch's bootstrap program,
i backed everything up (i hope), i wiped cache, then, loaded nextheme zip (2 4 5 final), rebooted and Epic Matt 4542
Waaaaaa ,,,what now?

nextheme 2.4.5 is not the correct theme to use. I believe EPIC 2.7 is based off 2.3.15 not 2.4.5 so it will have framework issues. Try using nextheme 2.2

[Q] Best Android Version For Calls, Gaming and Surfing

First of all, I'm sorry if there is a thread similar to this, or with the same purpose. I'm opening this thread because I've tried almost every mod for LG GT540 and I don't know what to use anymore...
Been a long Cyanogen mod user, I've now changed to Super Fast Froyo and I find it really as it says SUPER FAST.
What I'm asking you is, if you can tell me what is the best mod for playing games the phone wasn't designed for (any 3D game), surfing (without force closes), and using the phone as a PHONE (calls, messages - without force closes)
I've tried OpenSwift (don't know what version) about 3 months ago.. and I was able to play games, but in that time the mod wasn't stable...
Also, Cyanogen 7 (2.3.3) and I wasn't able to play games.. though the phone worked smooth, with some force closes and few restarts..
I've searched lots of forums, but everywhere there are persons saying this is better than that and vise versa..
That's normal yea.. but got tired of that, and decided to open a thread here..
About the games not playing.. well I maybe am a beginner.. but I've tried everything I could..
Any help appreciated ..
Thanks.
Stay on a custom 2.1 rom it will solve all ur problems..
Use swap for speed.
Link sd for unlimited storage space.
Nothing is as stable as 2.1 version.

I agree with sanmit that everything works in 2.1 and for games is good. So you should stay in one of the many good custom versions out there. And check the other posts until devs cook something worth it to change again. Now mur4ik has released version 2.0. So will see how it goes and inform

Thanks for replying!
I've decided to go with Elegance Swift 2.1, but I have a problem now... I can't flash it with Clockwork Recovery... it says "installation aborted"
I have wiped user data, phone, cache.. everything but it just doesn't work.. Is there a way to do this with fastboot? That's lots easier.. but I see a file called "data.img" here and don't know how to write that on phone
Thanks.
buya new phone?
just sayin, i dont think the gt540 is the best one for gaming. as its not capacitive screen. so you cant play mario or something smooth. but yeah as said above the stock 2.1 is the best. as i hav the SwiftDroid milestone1 V2.0 android 2.3.3 the battery dies too quick to play many games.
I don't want new phone lol
by the way... I found out how to install via Recovery.. but now my phone won't boot.. it's stuck on LG LOGO...
I can't post in developers threads.. and I can only ask here..
hi mate you need to flash both the recovery image and the boot image that should get your phone working again

Well.. I flashed clockwork recovery (if that's what you meen) and using CR i used the option restore to actually install the Elegance Swift 2.1 mod
do i have to flash the boot image after i did this with fastboot or?
EDIT
Did use fastboot for boot.img, still the same problem...
if you flashed via recovery then the boot.img should have been included in the backup so in what i will do is download the rom your tring to use and make a fresh backup and upload it for you
link me to the thread you downloaded the rom from

ok give me half an hour and ill get you a working version of this
uploading now for you i have included the easy flash tool
download this and put your phone in fastboot mode then run the start me.bat in the zip folder hopefully that should work
http://www.sendspace.com/file/a8l3hg
Thanks for the effort .. but I'm getting FAILED (data transfer failure (Too many links))
when trying to send system.img to phone
EDIT
I'm using XP SP3, does that changes anything? :\
EDIT 2
Can you just tell me how to do this with Clockwork?
to do it via recovery copy the zip file you and me downloaded to to the root of your sd card then go into recovery and select install update zip then select choose update zip and then select the zip file you copied to the root of the sd card

Thanks a lot for you time and help
no problem anytime
I think that CM7 is a lot better than 2.1 in many terms. (battery is worse, but it still lasts 2 days)
Use the stock 2.1 thats the best for your wishs...
Its the most useful...
i try everything but always back to stock or soft mod 2.1

Normally leaks don't have a changelog. Though according to Chingy it has the same radio as the 2.xx.xxx.x post.
Not thread jacking but XDA frowns on posting links to other forums. Keep that in mind if the thread gets locked or deleted.

I would hold off on flashing this, there are reports root and wifi is borked. I'm sure a slight oversight that should be corrected shortly.
so is this the same build of GB that the latest GB roms have been based on (chingy leaked rom) or is this a newer and improved final version?

I noticed the rooted odexed version has wiping set in the script chingy made. Anyway to mod it to not wipe? (I went into updater_script and got rid of the "delete_recursive" lines and saved it, but when I try to flash I get Status 6 error and it aborts).
pretty sure ive talked to chingy and he said he doesnt mind if i post anything he finds over here on xda. so anything else you guys have to say? now if the mods want to delete this for posting another forum fine but like i said chingy has told me its ok if i put his link on xda. next topic
Not to rain on everyone's parade but I did flash this yesterday and yes wifi doesnt work and yes I lost root access. I couldnt load TB. Otherwise it was smooth

I think its the radio. I had that radio installed using Synergy nightlies and it totally killed my battery fast.
I am confirming that the supposed "rooted" ROMs are not rooted at all. Superuser and busybox do not work (I even tried manually flashing from another source). ROM manager and other root apps not working either. Even after flashing that supposed root kernel fix chingy posted at the bottom. If you look in the thread almost everyone is having this problem. Other than that, the ROM works great, with Google Talk video and Skype front camera now working. FYI, this is also missing the updated radio files for the "rooted" ROMs, you can get them here: bottom links. I'm going to wait till a proper rooted version is developed though.
Update from Chingy:
I will try fix the rooted builds later tonight guys. I'm out all day today.

If your looking for smooth and awesome battery life, check out "uber BAMF". It gave me the best battery life I've ever had on the Thunderbolt. It performed super smooth with the stock kernel in the ROM too. There was no need to overclock.
For the impatient folks:

I took a slightly different approach to rooting the full RUU:
1) Wipe data, cache, and dalvik
2) Download Thunderbolt_Patched_hboot.zip from XDA by Shadowmite.
3) Open Thunderbolt_Patched_hboot.zip, you should see PG05IMG.zip inside. Take PG05IMG.zip and place it in the root of your microSD card. Reboot into Hboot. (Hboot should say UNLOCKED--highlighted in pink).
4) It should detect PG05IMG.zip. Just install it. Then delete PG05IMG.zip
5) Install full RUU (will lose root and clockworkmod). Then delete PG05IMG.zip
6) Download clockworkmod (CWR4.0.1.5)PG05IMG.zip) from XDA.
7) Rename the clockworkmod download to PG05IMG.zip. Place on root of your microSD card.
8) Reboot into HBoot, it should detect PG05IMG.zip, install it, then delete PG05IMG.zip. Now you have Clockworkmod.
9) Lastly, install Superuser (su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip) by downloading it from here. Install Superuser from Clockworkmod. Reboot.
You now have ROOT ACCESS (SUPERUSER), CLOCKWORKMOD, AND WORKING WI-FI.
Hope this helps.

Also with my personal approach. I made a clockwork backup of my current Froyo ROM right before this method and then after the method above, I used "Advanced Restore" in clockwork recovery to restore "data" and "cache" and it basically put everything back as it was on my old ROM.
Follow the above and my added notes and it's basically like a very long upgrade.
No more flaming, off topic garbage and arguing. If chingy wishes this to be removed all he has to do is simply ask a mod to do so and we will, till then enjoy the release!

i did basically this same thing, with exception of i use twrp for recovery, and i used this superuser: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=886999
wonder what the difference is?
i gotta admit it amused me a little to watch everyone panicing and semi-freakin out and warning each other not to flash the rooted deodex version. everything is workin fine on my "self rooted RUU"

Which miui?!?!

there's like 20 miui roms with different names. I just want the best one.

That's the one I flashed yesterday. Follow the install instructions posted in the lithium miui thread.
No app drawer on miui, so using launcher pro. With launcher pro, the widgets are working, which weren't for some reason on the stock launcher.
Make sure you let your phone rest the full 8 and 4 mins, I don't know why but I did, and apparently it's important.
GPS also works, but I had to play with it to get it going.

Lets get this out of the way first. I am not responsible if you screw up your phone, but you are probably here because you already screwed up your phone. I have now been through this several times over the last few days. Some will say this process is overkill, but there is no denying that it always works, so please refrain from stating the obvious.
If you have installed or updated CM7/MIUI and lost your baseband, IMEI, or both, this should help you. Due to the amount of people currently having this problem, I would recommend this be stickied at least temporarily until things are straightened out, so people can find it easily.
For Windows only, I do not have a Mac.
Step 1 - Read the entire post and understand everything involved before you attempt this. This is a long ride, probably 30-40 minutes from start to end. This is not for new people, and will assume you have a certain amount of knowledge because you attempted to flash CM7/MIUI.
DO NOT SKIP OR SHORTCUT ANY STEP IN THIS PROCESS, UNLESS I SPECIFICALLY STATED YOU MET THE CRITERIA TO DO SO. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT TRYING THIS UNLESS YOU CAN REACH DOWNLOAD MODE AND RECOVERY USING BUTTONS WITH THE PHONE OFF!
Step 2 - Gather what you need...
1 - The AIO Vibrant Toolbox : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509
Install according to directions in the post. Donate to this guy. He spent alot of time making this easy for you to do.
2 - The old CM7 install files : http://www.mediafire.com/?gn4qoonoe3cjyp6
Unzip to a location that is easy to get to.
3 - The new version of CM7/MIUI you want to install, from the thread of your choice. Donate to the developer you are using, they spend alot of their free time making your phone better. They don't get paid for it, and they dont charge you for it.
4 - Your phone, with a full battery.
Step 3 - Odin to JFD and install Clockwork 2.x
1 - Fire up the AIO Toolbox. Do not connect your phone yet, but power it down and pull your battery. See that sticker under it that says IMEI? Write it down! You will be referencing it a few times throughout the process. Start Odin and select your pit and pda files, they should automatically come up if you are using the toolbox. Hold down your volume up and down buttons, and insert your USB cable, then insert your battery. You should go to download mode, and see Odin connect. Hit start and let it fly. Once it reboots, unplug your phone. Go to settings/about phone and you should have a JFD baseband. Hit status, and check your IMEI. See how it matches the one you wrote down? Yay! Move on to the next item. If it does not, you have some reading to do because you really screwed something up, and it is beyond my power to help you...
2 - Mount phone and put the following files on the root of the sd card:
vibrant-efsbackup.zip (if you already have a backup/efs folder on your sd card you do not need this)
cm7-vibrant-initial-20110224.zip
The zip file of the new CM7/MIUI rom you want to flash.
3 - Download ROM Manager and install clockwork recovery 2.x (if you already have the update.zip on your sd card, which you should, you can also skip this) and power down your phone.
4 - Boot into recovery using the 3 button method (holding volume up and down and power, releasing power when the word VIbrant appears on your screen), hit reinstall packages, you may have to hit it twice to get to clockwork recovery. Choose to install zip from sd card, and select vibrant-efsbackup.zip. Let it do its thing. Then select reboot, and when it does, check your sd card for a backup/efs folder. Got it? Good. Power down the phone. (Obviously, if you already have the efs backup completed, you could have skipped this step.)
Step 4 - Install Clockwork 3.x and Old CM7
1 - Fire up the AIO Toolbox. Do not connect your phone yet, but pull your battery. Start Odin and hit the pda button, select the file cm7-vibrant-initial-kernel.tar from the CM7 package you unzipped (Remember, in a place that is easy to find). THIS IS IMPORTANT - UNCHECK AUTO REBOOT!!! Hold down your volume up and down buttons, and insert your USB cable, then insert your battery. You should enter download mode, and see Odin connect. Hit start and let it fly. Once it is finished, pull the usb cable. With the download mode screen still on your phone, boot into recovery using the 3 button method. You should now be in clockwork recovery 3.x. Move on to the next item! If you did not get in, you can try to pull your battery, replace it and boot into recovery from there. If you still can't get there, you get to go where the people who do not properly follow instructions go... back to Step 1.
2 - In clockwork 3.x, choose factory reset, and let it do it's thing. Then go to mounts and storage, and format system, data, and cache. Choose install zip from sd card and choose cm7-vibrant-initial -20110224.zip. As it is installing, one of the last things you see should be "restoring efs". Hit reboot when finished, and boot into CM7. When it boots, make sure you toggle the lockscreen a couple times so it connects to service. Check baseband and IMEI again. Baseband should have changed, but it does not matter until we get to where we are going. IMEI still the same right? Awesome! Power down the phone, move to the next step! It's not? You my friend, get to meet all your other friends back at Step 1.
Step 5 - Installing what you really want...
1 - Boot into recovery using the 3 button combo. Do a factory reset, wipe cache partition, go to advanced and wipe Dalvik cache. Choose install zip from sd card, and pick that shiny new version of CM7/MIUI you picked out. You are almost there. Flash it! Reboot, and when it comes back up, take note of what time it is and DO NOT TOUCH THE PHONE FOR 15 MINUTES. You have no idea the amount of bugs this squashes. After that, check the baseband and IMEI, even though you already know it is right anyway. If it is not, do i have to say it again? You know where you are going...
2 - Destroy the paper you wrote your IMEI on, you would not want that info in the wrong hands...
3 - Enjoy your new rom
FAQ:
Q: I did everything you said, and it did not work!
A: You either skipped a step, or did not stop at the point I told you you were screwed.
Q: No, seriously, I did everything you said!
A: Seriously, I have done this 5 times in the past 3 days, and it worked every time.
Q: I installed CM7 nightly #9,10,or 11 with this method, and I have no sound on calls. What gives?
A: These builds have known issues with in call audio. Flash CM7.1
Q: Once I am on CM7/MIUI, do I have to do this every time or can I update normally?
A: Once you are on CM7 or MIUI with the proper IMEI and a good baseband, you should be able to update via the rom posting instructions. If you decided to switch from CM7 to MIUI or vice versa, I would go back to this process to get your initial installation.
Q: I installed CM7.1 and then tried to go to MIUI, and lost everything again, what happened?
A: There are changes betweeen CM7 to 7.1 that have made this difficult due to compatability issues, which is why I recommend doing this process again if you want to switch between the two.
Q: I thought there was an easier way to do this, why so many steps?
Read the first paragraph of the post, but I guess that is also asking too much...

Just install the one you linked to, the one direct from miui.us.
The other Lithium one looks like it's customized, overclock kernal, stuff like that.
I disabled vodoo lag fix. I odin back to 2.1. Then I installed stock 2.2.
Then I followed the instructions exactly. Wipe dalvic cashe, format system/data/cache, wipe factory restore, etc etc.
Not sure if I had to install 2.2 first, but I did anyway since the install instructions were for upgrading from a 2.2 rom and not a 2.1 rom.

You don't have to install via those long instructions anymore. Apparently those are outdated.
Just manually backup your /efs and keep a copy on your computer, just because everyone should have a copy of their /efs folder and nv_data.bin, otherwise if you run into trouble you can lose your IMEI.
Then follow these simple instructions as outlined by user nickmcminn60 for his Lithium MiUi rom, but it worked for the regular MiUi also:
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS (For Lithium and SS-11 If you are on MIUI, CM-7 or a 2.2)
-Wipe Dalvik Cache
-Wipe Cache Partition
-Wipe Data/Factory Reset
-Format-System, Cache and Data (Located under "Mounts & Storage)
-Flash LE Lithium (EDIT by me samsungvibrant..OR THE STOCK VERSION OF MIUI could be flashed here)
-Fix Permissions
-Reboot and Let Settle For 8 Min
-Reboot again Let Set For 4 Min..
No need to do the longer install process you had mentioned in the prior post.

It's a very smooth rom, it has fast animations and i love em'
The only thing bugging me right now is battery life drains way faster than what i'm used to. I'll find out more on calibrating the battery/changing kernels etc.

With root explorer, free from market. Enable root within that app in settings. Also enable root with superuser app in tools folder. Then navigate to efs folder copy and paste it.

From what I have seen Lithium is actually meant to be more of a development ROM for new features. The other ROM made by that developer is the SS series which is meant to be more of a daily driver (eg. more stable), and it has additional tweaks from the official MIUI release to try to achieve things like better battery life as well as a OC or UVable kernel.
SS can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099533
and here:
http://forums.miui.us/showthread.php?7067-ROM-SS-11.1-%281.9.30%29-**UPDATED**-10-01-11
Unrelated to the OP, but if you're using Launcher Pro you're missing out on one of the best aspects of MIUI: No App Drawer! Instead you organize your apps into folders on the Home page. It makes you wonder why there ever was an app drawer. Seems like a silly concept now that I've been using MIUI for a while.

[Telus T959D Fascinate] - Install MIUI, CM7 and More!!

Follow Steps at own Risk
MIUI or CM7 Installation:
1.) Depending on what you want to install, download either the I9000 Miui 1.11.11 Rom or the CM 7.1 Stable Rom.
2.) Download the Glitch-V13-DEV-TelusFascinate+ kernel. I chose the Medium Leakage Kernel.
3.) Move both ZIP (ROM and Kernel) files over to the Root of your Internal SD Card (USB, Bluetooth, etc)
4.) Make sure you DISABLE all Lagfixs if you have it enabled.
IMPORTANT:
Froyo 2.2.x (Not Tested):
We need to be able to boot into CWM. Easiest way to do this if you are on Froyo is to Flash the SpeedMod kernel or the Voodoo Kernel. I suggest following all steps which includes installing Darky 9.2 just to be sure. I haven't tried flashing Miui or CM7 from right from the SpeedMod CWM.
Gingerbread 2.3.x (Tested):
If you running a custom ROM that is based off Gingerbread you will be required to flash the Darky Resurrection Edition 9.2 (Froyo) via Odin. This is to insure that the proper boot loaders updated before installing MIUI or CM7. Download the Darky 9.2 package from the above URL, the ONLY files that we need from here are: Odin3 v1.3.exe, darky_odin.tar.md5 & s1_odin_20100512.pit
Follow Ficeto's Instructions below to flash Darky 9.2 and remember to backup all your stuff before starting.
-------------------------------------
5.) Next step is to get your phone into Download Mode. If you are unsure please search the forums here.
6.) Now, open ODIN and connect the phone to the computer. ODIN will say 'Added'.
7.) Tick the 'Repartition' option, and then select the following files in ODIN (from the folder you extracted the base package in):
[*]PDA: darky_odin.tar.md5
[*]PIT: s1_odin_20100512.pit
8.) Press the Start button and wait for it to finish. Once it finishes, disconnect the phone from the computer after the phone reboots.
9.) After ODIN completes procedure and the phone reboots, a screen will come on the phone with 'Android system recovery <2e>' written at the top, and the following text will be written at the bottom:
"E:Invalid command argument
--Install from package--
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
#MANUAL MODE#
-- Appling Muti CSC...
Installing Muti CSC"
Don't worry about this.
10.) From here the next step is to reboot your phone, your POWER / SELECT button will not work so you will have to pull the battery out. Once you put the battery back in and start up the phone, it should automatically boot into CWM Recovery.
-------------------------------------
11.) Next we want to do a COMPLETE WIPE (Factory), also deleting Partition Cache and the Delvik Cache.
12.) Once the phone has been cleansed, you want to make your way to the option "Select ZIP from SD Card" and select the ROM zip file located on the SD Card. Start the Installation.
NOTE: Once you start the installation, your phone will reboot part way through, then will continue the rest of the installation. The total time for this installation could take up to 10 minutes, so please be patient and do not touch the phone!
13.) DONE!! You have now successfully Flashed either Miui or CM7 on your Fascinate!.
14.) Actually, one more Step which I have ONLY tested with Miui 1.11.11:
Once you have checked a few things out, we are going to want to Flash the Glitch-V13-DEV-TelusFascinate+ kernel. So boot back into CWM Recovery and Flash it the same way you flashed the ROM.
Optional:
BASEBAND UPDATE:
I would also suggest Flashing the I9000UGJK3 Baseband or another of your liking because I had crappy cell signal with the Stock Miui Baseband. Just download it as you normally would, move the ZIP to the internal SD Card, boot into CMW recovery and flash it. Click on the Link Here and find the modem that you would like to flash.
4WAYREBOOT MOD:
I think this Mod is a MUST for anyone running Miui, it completes it!! It basically adds the additional reboot options like Recovery, Hotboot, etc. to the 'reboot' list when going to reboot the phone. Install the ZIP the same way as usual, through CWM recovery. Download the 4-Way Reboot Mod Here.
ENJOY!!!!
I will add to this post with some additional and helpful information.
Other helpful information:
- With Miui or CM7, you will want to install the ROM Manager Application. It contains a bunch of additional downloads and is a must when using Miui or CM7.
- Please do NOT USE 'ROM manager' Backup option to create a nandroid. To create a backup, boot into CWM recovery normally via ROM manager or if you have the 4-Way Reboot mod installed. Just don't use the 'Backup option' in ROM Manager
- I haven't tried Launcher Pro yet, I've actually stuck with the Stock Launcher that Miui comes with, Launcher2.apk
thanks so much! save me tinkering time
Thanks! On my to do!
EDIT - thinking about this on the way into work. Should we include a step (if the complete wipe doesn't do it) to wipe the battery stats? Could be done in CWM after flashing the ROM, or through an app like battery calibration on boot up. Also, we should note on the coming from froyo that you only need speed kernel if you do not have an option to get CWM. When I ran froyo I had a voodoo kernel so could get to CWM that way.
Also, is miui EXT4 out of the box (no need for a lagfix)? Given its next to latest GB I'm assuming it is
Just some thoughts - hoping to do this tonight, but one quick question for the group - flashing - so do you all make sure you have a full battery before you flash? I've not always done that in the past, but believe its a best practice.
NEW EDIT - almost forgot, great work as always Adam!

Thanks Jeff, the Voodoo kernel should also work as well. In regards to wiping the battery, I never did but it might be a good idea just in case. I haven't run into any issues as of yet. (knock on wood)

Not 100% sure on this at the moment, but I do know that there is no need for Lagfix with Miui or CM7.

It definitely is good practice to Flash a new ROM when the battery is almost 100% full. Now saying that, I have flashed ROMS when my battery has been as low as 40% - 45% and never had any issues.
I think that's the best comment Adam - why apply a lagfix if one is not needed!
Cannot wait to give this a run - hoping tonight assuming my little ones all go to bed, and my wife does not get too annoyed with me
[MIUI Themes and Lock Screens]
The Miui Rom is very customizable when it comes to themes and lock screens.
The Miui 'Themes' application allows you to download, install, customize and apply all different types of themes. Which I would have to say that there are at least a good 100 + or more themes out there at the moment.
I think the best feature that the 'Themes' app has to offer is that you have the option to apply different theme components to the current base theme that you have it set to!
As an example, I currently have one of the 'Honeycomb' themes applied as my base theme, my Lockscreen is based off the 'Slide Slip' theme, my Icon Set is based off the 'Seemless Dark Blue' theme and my Dialer is also based off the 'Seemless Dark Blue' theme. It feels like the possibilities are endless now when it comes to customization.
To see the different components the way the themes are broken down, choose 'Edit Theme' from within the 'Themes' app. Within here you can then assign other theme components as long as you with have the full theme installed or just that one component.
Installation of .mtz files, (Full Themes / Theme components)
Once you have downloaded a compatible Miui theme (.mtz format), copy that file to the following directory on your phone:
/sdcard/MIUI/theme
(You can also import themes from the themes application itself, all that does it move it to that directory for you)
Then open up the 'Themes' app and your new theme will be in the list.
NOTE:
If its a theme component only (Still .mtz format) , eg. Lock Screen component, it WILL NOT show up in your main Theme list. Just click on 'Edit Theme' and it should show up under the drop down for 'Lockscreen Style'. Get what i mean?
For Miui Lockscreens, check out the link below!

For full Miui themes, check out the link below:

Also, the Theme app has an Online library that you can search through as well
Cheers!

EDIT flashing in process - factory reset at the moment
Awesome! Thanks for creating this. Just gotta wait until the weekend to take the plunge. It's not the flashing taking too long that I worry about, but the time I spend restoring apps and settings and just playing around in general. Not to mention having time to start over if I feel something went wrong. Two more days to go!
guessing it shouldn't boot loop - I'm stuck in a boot loop
looks like it cannot find the SD card - so keep restarting looking for the miui zip - the CWM error is quick before it restarts (can't see it)
EDIT : re-downloaded the zip but same effect. Anyone hit this before with cm7 or miui? trying a few things before I attempt a restore.
I get to 'checking bml' before it reboots, and then it boot loops continuously - I tried flashing and not flashing the glitch kernel first, but nothing sticks.
EDIT : giving up, attempting a restore of my nandroid I made before I started. Any tips let me know - disappointed.
EDIT : still up, backup didn't go so well - likely cause I have odd kernels - one last ditch - went right back to froyo stock, tried speedmod (bootloop), now put on 9.2, rebooting - may give it one more shot before giving up for the night.
EDIT - SON OF A ***** - that did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I might have to provide some troubleshooting tips on that one!!!!!!!!
EDIT AGAIN - knock on wood here - I'm farther than the bootloop and I'm at a MIUI splash screen - that might be as far as I go tonight ... LOL
FINAL EDIT - so not much playing tonight. Ate into that with all this trouble shooting.
SO IF YOU ARE COMING FROM A GB ROM AND GET STUCK IN A BOOTLOOP - I would go to STOCK FROYO and then flash 9.2 and then follow the instructions. Bang on job Adam! I think I just had something odd on my phone.
I'm now up - gltich on + miui.
Wow, sorry you had such a hard time man. Only time I hit a hard bootloop was when trying to install CM7 using gingerbread bootloaders. Did you eventually get it going??

yeah, see my last edits - putting on 9.2 I'm guessing didn't completely adjust the bootloaders - when I put on stock telus 2.1, THEN 9.2 - I was golden.
Didn't play much (that was after 12) but restored a few apps - but man, it is really fast. Will report some thoughts over the weekend likely.
Questions on MIUI
OK a few questions.
- downloaded google maps (navigation, etc). Start it up, but it fails miserably - bombs out and goes into a constant vibration. ANyone having similar issues with that? Suggestions?
- There's a 6 digit number in the left corner of my screen - no meaning to me - anyone know what that is or seeing something similar?
- also, pinch and zoom with the camera. Those don't seem to work - any issues you folks having with that?
- Adam you suggest a different base band - where are you getting zip - I'm only finding large tars on that link (but I"m over tired)
- The OTA updater looks great BUT is in chinese - any one have a work around for that?
Again, sorry about all the issues you had with installing and such. My very first time

Weird man, I actually installed google maps a few days ago. First time I used it (Navigation) was yesterday to test out the GPS. Had no problems at all with the apps yet.

That is your Service Provider. With CM7 and Miui, I noticed it doesn't resolve the provider. Its no harm unless you don't like looking at numbers there. I did find a work around though, just install the Miui Extended Menu Mod and you can change it to what ever you want:

Guess I better check my links more better. Stupid site.
For now use this one. I know your in the same geo area as me, I haven't had any issues with this one, use the one attached.
Oh, don't use the OTA updater, just use ROM Manager. Or download the Miui updater app from the market.
I'm guessing MIUI originally was developed in China, lol

OK - maybe I should reflash. I actually have ROM Mgr premium - but its telling me I need CWM installed to work (which I obviously have).
And no apologies needed - we're all guinea pigs here
EDIT - Also, on the camera - used to be able to pinch like a website on Darky's to zoom in and out. Maybe that was a custom camera but I think it was generally samsung stock.
EDIT - Reflashed (1.11.18 actually - am I the first ) and GPS issue solved - might have been tied to the modem as I flashed yours Adam (THANK YOU!!!!!!) Keeping moving forward

Might be the best thing to do. I've read that some people prefer to >> Flash the ROM first >> Flash Kernel >> Boot into Kernel CWM >> Re-Flash ROM again.
Yeah, if you do there is no need for the Darky steps anymore.
Just boot into CWM, do factory wipe, partition and dalvik cache, fix permissions, then flash miui again.
Oh, in regards to ROM Manager and CWM, just select 'Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery' >> Select I9000 (MTA) and choose version 3.
Then reboot into recovery to test.
It actually still uses the Glitch CWM from the Kernel. This is just so that ROM Manager will recognize that you have a selected CWM
Looks like Miui 1.11.18 is now out. I'm going to Flash and test it out shortly.

I'm loving Miui and the glitch kernel man. There are a few other Kernels out there that we can try as well. I maybe testing the platypus kernel out soon, it is also built for our phone too
From what I've read so far though, Glitch is one of the best so far.

when you get 1.11.18, go to ROM manager and select update ROM - does nothing happen? I have it registered now with a CWM which is fine, it shows my current version (which is latest) so when I click check for udpates nothing happens (no - 'no update available' or anything like that). Just wanted to see if it was working correctly.

[Q] First time ever that im going to use a custom rom

Allright.. i decided to start using a custom rom, which will be CM9. but because of soo mutch information on this website i dont fully understand anymore what to do, and because im still a noob, i cant post in the original thread of CM9.
I have a Red lens Motorola Defy MB525, found out with catlog that i got the bayer camera module , non branded, stock froyo.
Rooted my defy
nandroid backup with 2nd init , made a copy to my laptop to be completely save.
did backup the apps with titanium backup
also have the app battery calibration so i can fix my battery after the custom rom.
i will write the custom rom when my battery is on atleast 50 percent, so it will not die.
So what do i have to do next?
download the correct ROM, it will come as a .zip
copy it to your sdcard, reboot to 2nd init recovery,
factory reset, and wipe dalvik cache from advanced menu.
then in recovery choose install zip from sdcard, choose your ROM.zip, install,
reboot, it will take pretty long until it boots first time because system is rebuilding the dalvik. (~5min)
Wow , thats sounds way more simple then i can find on this site.
Ill try it tommorow night! any further suggestions?
Maybe you should try multiboot first just to be on the safe side.
what is multiboot and how can i do that?
Multiboot is basically the possibility to have two or more different ROMs (e.g. CM7 and CM9) installed at the same time and when you boot up you can choose which ROM you want to use. But it is a bit complicated and it wouldn't work with stock Froyo as one of the ROMs I think.
More suggestions? You should also download the latest gapps from http://goo.im/gapps and put the zip on your sd card as well. After wiping and installing the CM9 Nightly from sd go to install zip from sd again and choose the gapps .zip. After that you can reboot the system.
The gapps are the Google Apps (i.e. Play Store and some more) and without them you can't even setup your Google Account, download apps, use Gmail etc.
Ah thanks for that! downloaded it and saved it to my desktop for now.
Still need to figure out which rom i need to choose.. the epsylon?

That would be good. Try it out and see if it suits your requirements..There are many ROM's for froyo kernel. You can try those and see which suits you best.
Happy Modding.

Cant wait till all the apps are back on my phone from the backups that i made and then let the modding begin! haha
