Uptime: 40hours :D - EVO 4G General

didn't use it that much the past few days but atm my battery is at 90%, uptime says 43:42:18, and awake time is around 6 hours. 14 hours since unplugged.
Sent about 30-40 texts, browsed around for some stuff, got 10 or so calls, and was on the map for 15-20 minutes.
Gonna charge it overnight, and use it extensivly tomorrow. See how long it can last.

14 hours and batt is at 90%? I smell fish around here

actually its ~13 hours, taking a pic. sec.
edit: give me a minute, have to figure out how to take the screenshot on a non rooted phone.

had to take it with my laptops camera, so yea, soz about bad quality.

So what are you running that you are getting such amazing battery life? At this rate you will get 117 hours of battery usage which is 4.8 days....

nothing, just stock everything. It might of been the charger in my car that charged it better than the wall plug, but idk the past few days it's been like this. the days before it would die after 12-14 hours, but now it just like started working better all of a sudden. I was rooted, but had to go back to stock cause of warante deal.

A USB charge always gives me longer life than wall charger. Haven't tried the car charger deal. Anything special you did in between a charge?

nope, charged it overnight. took it off, went to my car, plugged it into the car charger, and the sound system. Drove for 30 minutes, unplugged and used it.

Interesting

That's damn good. I actually just flashed to an almost basic stock rom, with minor tweaks and it has the new unreleased update included, and it's doing damn well.can't wait till the source gets released. They did something that's really helping battery. Itll really be something when the devs get ahold of that source code.

What rom did you end up using. I would like to try and find a rom that isnt using sence. It seams to be the real life of the party and eatting away at the battery life.

your best options are to either go with CM6 for a true AOSP rom this will have no sense wont be based on sense and will have nothing to do with sense. you will however lose 4g, HDMI and FM radio currently; or to use a sense based rom and remove the sense launcher and HC wdigets. this will keep 4g, HDMI, FM radio and will help some on battery though you are still running a sense based rom so not as good as AOSP
As for the battery usage. this isnt bad though i am surprised with the usage you listed that android system isnt in the top 2 and neither is dialer for the phone calls. Looks like the calls where very short if you received 10 of them so i will point out again that this must be with very light usage.

I assume you're not killing any tasks either?

in all fairness, I made it to about 15 hours unplugged and still had a good 85% left on my battery with similar usage. I ended up with maybe 23 hours total before I plugged back in at around 30%. That was with baked snack 1.5, btw.
And isn't uptime just the time since the phone was last rebooted? If you don't reboot the phone that number would get into the hundreds, and has nothing to do with battery or charging right?

Correct.
Uptime = time since last reboot

yes uptime is since last reboot, but last unplugged is still 13 hours with 90% battery. It went down to 80% last night, after it reached 13:40, and i watched about 30 minute video on it.
and the phone calls were mostly to customer service. Called sprint for insurance and stuff.

my uptime is at 52 hours, battery at 10%... Its dying!! lol Havent used phone much other than texts, some facebook and taking pics here n there. Low 3g useage, mostly wifi.

total bs. no way you can use or even have the phone on standby for 13 hours without draining past 90% on the stock battery. no way.

Battery keeps getting better....

Ive had my phone for a month now nad the battery seems to be getting better. Ive resently done a task 29 and updated to Artemis v9 with radio version 2.09 and from 4:30 yesterday afternoon I took it off charge its gone down to 90%. Thats doing light txting and web. Im amazed....
exactly the same experience for me, using the hd2 since december and battery now lasts almost 3 days from time to time
i even bought a second battery to replace it when im not at home lol.. but not that important anymore
and yea, im surfing everyday and text very much, some phone calls too, normal use..
i love it xD

I usually wait until it gets down to about 10% charge, then top it up.
But, it does get trickle charges during the week while plugging into my car.
i also found my battery getting better
with 40% brightness, from 8:30am online to surf web until 4pm, still have 40%
i think because it uses less cpu processing power and speaker sound(play games or movie), that's why battery can last longer
your probably find that a lot of it is down to how much you use it, Obviously when you first get a phone for the first couple of weeks your going to be using it constantly, figuring out new things and just general playing about, once you have gotten used to it you dont do as much, its not very noticable as its gradual but thats one of the reasons why battery life gets better.
83% now after a bit more txting and a little bit of facebook. ive been charging around 30 40%
I completely agree about the battery, I'm actually amazed
I am using Energy ROM with GTX and C00kie and I am getting a good 2 days of HEAVY usage, and i'm talking hundreds of texts, about an hour on the phone, couple hours of music, couple hours of 3G Internet with 3G on all the time.
I'm amazed.
Just run the battery out and then fully charge it and you're sorted.
Its down to understanding how Lion work.
They like being worked and the harder the better. If used like this over time they will give better and better results. There is no need to discharge or condition them in any way other than charge them as often and for as long as possible and this will maximize battery life over a few weeks. Then you see the benefits.

Best Battery Life

Between DamageControl, Aloyious, ZenEXP, and Fresh 2.0D, which ROM has the best overall battery life, I need to test it. Took my phone to sprint because I fully charged, and unplugged and it shot straight to 75%, then died in 2.5hrs. I then charged it for 2hrs and unplugged, straight to 14% low warning, then in 3 mins on NO USAGE, it game me the 9% warning, so which is best on battery
Thanks In Advance,
Tee Jay
Sounds like its a physical battery problem to me. Otherwise, personally i've only tried DC and Fresh. Both have great battery life and ultimately, it just came down to preference between the two for my decision.
on a side-note...don't think this belongs in this thread.
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, i felt like it belonged here because it is a ROM question. Sprint tested the battery, all seems well...said its probably because of my "setup". he said go back to original and see if its better, if not he will replace it. But i dont want original, I want 2.1
thanks,

None of the roms I have tested killed the battery that fast. The worst was 6 hours with Fresh Toast 2.0b and that has been fixed. You have a physical problem with the phone or battery. Never believe a Sprint rep.

Yeah.. That's definitely not a ROM issue. Get your battery/phone replaced.
Okay, well I have just put DC back on and I will see what comes of it. About how long should my phone last using moderate texting, maybe 2-3 short calls and about 65% time w/o signal (happens when I'm at work, cant use airplane mode because of my children)?
Thanks,

It should AT THE VERY LEAST get through a work day. Even when I was using Fresh Toast 2.0b1 with the 100% awake time, I would get to the end of a 7 hour shift at work, albeit, it was at about 18% when I got home.. But thats with the phone being awake for 8 hours straight.
Hm, alrighty, ill run through tomorrow at work with DC on it, and ill post back
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the input!

Damage Control Battery Usage
I've been using Damage Control ROM with PRL set to CDMA auto. I use the phone for sending and receiving texts/phone calls all day. I check Facebook periodically and I do searches on the internet throughout the day. To give you an idea of my battery statistics for the last 23 hours (off charge):
Up Time:22:34
Awake Time: 1:29
TWS: 0%
Current battery level: 50%
Needless to say, I'm happy with my current battery usage.
Yesterday after 15 hours I still had over 30% remaining using FreshToast 2.0b2 with SetCPU on "performance."
Have you tried calibrating the battery?
1. Charge it to full.
2. Boot in recovery.
3. Select wipe.
4. Wipe battery stats.
5. Use phone until it dies.
6. Recharge phone to full.
Or get a extended battery and not worry bout it.

i have the extended battery.. and I barely get a day out of mine with fresh 2.0d. And most of its time is spent in standby.. It was fully charged when I went to bed last night.. and was almost dead when I woke up... 12a to 9a..... the extended battery lasts about as good as the standard, IMO
I am gonna take a guess and say it was 9.95 and from Hong Kong.

There's definitely something wrong with that picture.. If you had it fully charged when you went to sleep, and nearly dead in the AM.. I would say that you've got either 100% Awake time OR A ****ed up battery..
I've went to bed with the phone off the charger at 100% and it was down to maybe 85 when I woke up 8 hours later.

Wow battery from 100 to 10 in 3 hours

I know its the first day but damn 3 hours and done? I thought evo was bad :[
I don't know what you're doing, but it's wrong.
I bought my phone today at 10:00 AM. First thing I did was charge it all the way. Once I took it off I started getting my apps back, I watched a 720p movie for 10 minutes to see how it worked (freakin amazing... 720p MKV movies out of the box). Browsed the web for 10-20 minutes. Listened to music for 5-10 minutes. Played gamed for about 30 minutes.
Really put the phone through its paces.
I'm at 25% now. 9 hours since unlplugged and screen on time is 1 hour and 34 minutes.
Also remember that you don't get the most out of your battery until you cycle it a few times. I'm running juice defender which also helps a lot.
How did you watch your MKV movie? I am guessing that transferring a 5GB file to the memory card is not optimal.

It's a 720p MKV of Dr Horrible The file is only 800 MB (the movie itself is 45 minutes long). I transferred it over while charging the phone along with my music.
Use the "my files" app and navigate to the movie. When you click it, it opens in the stock movie player which plays MKVs just fine. I was rather amazed.

Lol I'm wrong ? I use juice plotter and heavy use and 3 hours later I'm almost at no battery
I'm ok with that as I have been using the hell of it! Love it so far
Yeah...kinda watching the battery myself.
Put it on the charger at 5x% and it hit 100% after charge in about 5 minutes. I turned it off to charge via USB because I knew that couldn't be right. Hit 100% in about 10 minutes. Turned it back on and it's at 65% and charging.
Gonna give this one a few days to condition, though, through normal use and see what happens. The GPS pisses me off that it's completely FUBAR but we'll see if a software fix takes care of that.
The epic drains its batter about 5 to 6x faster then my captivate. It went from 100% at 8 am to dead at 12. I turned off 4g and charged it but now its died again. Died 2 times in 1 day. I am returning it so I cant test more but some people say batters need few days before they work 100%.
I charged mine yesterday morning till the light turned blue and the phone said it was fully charged.
I worked on the phone from 2:00 yesterday afternoon till 11:00 last night...adding, emailing, texting, web browsing and when I was done, it was still at 50%.
My guess is that after there's a real 100% charge in it the battery will condition....just like every other cell phone I've ever used.
So far my Epic battery life is AMAZING. I get so much battery drain on my Evo when I'm not using it. Last night, my Epic was at 14% battery life. I refuse to charge it until I drain it all the way. This morning I woke up and it was at 13%. After 6 hours of idling... 1% drain.
That means my phone has lasted from 11am yesterday until 7:30am today. 2 hours and 10 minutes of screen on time....

You are really not having fun with this phone. I got my phone at 11am put it on the car charger. Made a few calls while on charger (about 40 minutes) at about 2pm the phone said 100% charged and to unplug. I'm coming from a modded WinMo FUZE to this phone' so you know I had to explore the Andriod OS. I was on this phone till about 11pm and still had about 20% battery after downloading apps(Now I finally know how poor winMo marketplace really is.) I know the battery will only get better so I'm fine with it. If I need more I'll get a extended use battery.
Ok well either battery life just blows or it needs time to adjust
I made double and triple sure to 100% charge it and juice plotter is already saying I have only 4 hours left from 100% and just now I've been using it for 45 min and its down to 75%
Another note is that the display seems to be the biggest and outrageous offender of battery consumption. 77% right now
My evo had that issue but once I rooted it and installed a custom rom it leveled out to not have the display use that much juice

See if you can get a replacement. Something isn't quite right there. Im going to get juice plotter and see what it reports for me, but if it's anything like yesterday, I'll easily get a full day out of the battery as I won't be able to use it as much today. I'm going to be working a lot

Yeah I'm leaning towards battery life sucks because even when its off it is using up more battery than my evo did.
I can get full charge to last like 4.5 hours with moderate use.
And the display is by far the biggest offender
Right now it is ay 61% it battery use going to display
Juice defender saves your battery like whoa when it's not being used. Here are my current battery stats:
Current battery life: 36%
Time off charger: 9 Hours 30 Mminutes
Display: 57% (screen has been on for 2 Hours 26 Minutes)
Cell Standby: 25%
Phone Idle: 6%
Dungeon Hunter: 4%
Android System: 3%
Media Server 3%
What in the balls is media server?
I consider this phenomenal battery life compared to my EVO when it launched. It will only get better from here
READ THIS:
The way SAMOLED works is that each pixels is individually lit. Because white consists of the most light, viewing anything with a lot of white will kill the battery faster. Black, obviously, uses the LEAST amount of battery life. You can gain a bit of battery life just by using a darker background for your home screens.
Because of this, web browsing is a huge battery killer.
Yeah I've used that program but I'm trying to still be able to use things like gtalk juice defender kills data intermittently making im programs useless

4 is a bit extreme especially when it goes from 23 to 12 in 1.75 hours with it being off

The APPS section of Juice Defender allows you to select apps that can use Data. When you open these apps, data is enabled immediately. You'll see the 3G logo kick in. It requires some tweaking to make perfect but id definitely worthwhile.
Just remember. White pixels on epic kills battery faster than Evo.

DK28 Battery Life ..is 13 h 28 m insane or normal?

With the newly leaked Dk28 there definitely seems some battery life improvement. I am on 13.5 hrs unplugged as of now and still about 20% battery life left.
I charged it before going to bed yesterday night... left if unplugged whole night.. moderate usage today morning.. emails, browsing, phone calls.
4G service on .. everything else off.
I dont think I saw something like this on Eclair... is 13.5 hrs normal or is it really really good??
What are you experiences? Please share.
I'm at 15 hours right now with 62% remaining, but that doesn't seem out of the ordinary for me. I went a little over 30 hours on one battery a couple days ago, which I think is pretty good considering it's a stock Froyo kernel.
I don't know what your settings are, but I can usually get about 40 hrs on one battery cycle. Most of that 40hrs is downtime, but I can manage about 3-4 hours of display time(games, surfing, etc) and about 30 minutes of talk time.
Your numbers look a lot like mine did before I started killing the DRM service.
Edit: Forgot to mention I am on 2.1 though.
That seems pretty normal. I unplug my phone when I leave for work and plug it in when I go to bed and it's usually at about 40% or so by that time.
For what it's worth, I'm not seeing any difference in my battery life since updating to 2.2. This is pretty much the same as I was getting on 2.1.
I will say that prior to DI18, I was getting about 50 hours on a charge. My last charge before DI18, I had gone almost 72 hours before plugging in to do the update. DI18 killed my battery life, and it's been about the same ever since.

I do have Autostarts killing DRM at boot. Not sure that it makes a difference on Froyo though.
I was on di18 from the day i bought my phone and i never got thru the day without plugging in at work.. i plug it in at night..pick it up100% charged while going to work and by about 2-3 with moderate usage it wud be around 25% left and definitely die if i dont charge at work on the way back home.. which is something i m not seeing now.
Are all you guys using this drmservice.. i wud like to kill it too .. not sure what it does tho.. will do a bit of reading..
I usually only have to swap batteries once a day. I leave wifi on nearly all the time. Bluetooth and gps are usually on for about an hour a day. I listen to music with the phone during work and when I go for a walk in the evenings. I play some games and browse the web here and there, too.
Last night, I swapped batteries before bed, and lost 11% in 9 hours, with wifi on. If I'm constantly doing things with my phone (gps navigation, games, etc) then I can kill it in 6 hours or so.
I'm getting round 18 hours with heavy wifi use and tons of browsing

Wow, I wish I could get that. I'm doing really good to make it 8 hours, and that's with limited use.

Pfffft, i get that easily on Eclair DI18, actually a little bit more. I'll call that normal, nothing exceptional.

Is this with the regular 1500mAh battery ?
For people getting 13 hrs+, or anyone really, what does your spare parts network usage look like? I'll update this post with mine.
I've been all over the place with battery drainage. (I've calibrated since new kernel). all details equal (same app setup, traveling to the same place, etc), sometimes I drain 15% per hr, sometimes 5%.

I read some of the comments and had to go back to top to see if I was in right thread!!
My 2.1 rooted used 2% an hour, I'm a moderate user, but most usage is data on 3g. I would have 50 plus left at bedtime.
Went to DK28 - idle used 6%, had to charge my late afternoon with any usage. Same setup, actually less programs.
So I rolled back, this was the same as pre Sept 30 upgrade and yes, I was toggling, killing, stopping, everything the same.
Just this morning, I took it off charge, spent about 10 minutes going through facebook and seesmic, check the charge percentage and I was at 93%.
What the HECK are you folks doing to get 18 hours of heavy browsing on WiFi?!
I really don't want a phone that has a tough time making it past lunch with it mostly sitting inactive. Heck, my ancient G1 did much better than this. Just checking now, I unplugged it at 6:30, and I'm at 89% already. Although I will say that from about 6:30 - 7:42 I've gone down 4%, so I suppose that's not too terrible. I'd love to have 2%/hr.
Addl data:
From 7:42 - 9:34 with it just sitting on my desk, it's down to 81%, so it's still losing 4%/hr without being touched.

I'm at over 50 hours and my battery is down to 24% Is this normal?

I know it isn't normal.
I swapped batteries two nights ago. I have spare parts installed. My wifi has been on the entire time. GPS was on for 6 hours today when I forgot to turn it off. I work in a basement.
I'm about to go for a walk and listen to music, but I'll be back in an hour. Ask your questions. I don't understand why some of you are having such a hard time with your battery life. I'm not doing anything too weird or even putting my phone in airplane mode.

Its all in how you use your phone. If you turn on wifi and leave it on your desk then I could see 50 hours. Also what rom/kernel are you using and are you using an extended battery?

Normal battery. Running Mammon's Bonsai4All. I've talked on the phone for about an hour total in the last two days. I played games for maybe an hour. I used the gps for a while today, then went back to the basement. Didn't listen to much music before tonight. Bluetooth headphones took it down a bit. A little less use than normal. Usually I swap batteries once a day.
That's not a whole lot of use. I've gotten up to about 35 hrs before on a charge but I used it more thn that.
sorry to thread jack, but is there a tutorial for spare parts for optimal batt life?
I have Bonsai as well but only get around a day at best with minimal use.
Battery is calibrated too

You get about the normal. I think it's actually considered average since about 16 our so hours is what I get too. My guess is that these folks put their phones in a cryostasis chamber to achieve that type of life. However, I believe the op mentioned "replacing" the battery. I wonder if that was a brand new one or what?
I normally get about a day of use, with a bit more use than what got me this much uptime. I have had some new things to work on at work and new games to play at home, so I haven't been on the phone for things as much as usual.
I do have 3 batteries (all standard Samsung batteries), but I randomly get unexpectedly good battery life even with normal use. I think one of my batteries is holding more charge than the other two.
I'm shocked you guys get such good battery life.
I went back to DI18 for a bit after DK28 to see how if battery life was any different. I'm running stock everything, no DRM killers, just the "Samsung Experience" with Launcher Pro.
It's sad and embarrasing. I'm lucky if i can pull 8 hours, unlucky if i stream 4 hours of pandora and its dead. I have 2 batteries and I've gone through both in the same day while at work listening to pandora
I get a full days use: on stock eclair 2.1
I use Mobile ap for like and hour and half
Talk on the phone for like an hour a day
Text like 100 at the most a day
Browse the web on wifi for like 3 hours at home
Using these after the day is over im at like 30 percent.
I'm at 72% right now, 8 hours since unplugged.
Phoenix Kernel and Syndicate ROM regular.
Set CPU 100min, 1200 max
Screen off 100min, 200 max
I JUST plugged in at 1% - after 78 hours and 4 minutes. Some texting, Talk, voice & Gmail. Mostly on Wi-Fi was the key. I still said wow, heh. I just did this (third option) on "stock" DK28:

I do something similar to that third option. I have three batteries and two chargers (one for each battery that isn't in my phone). I charge in the charger until it stops, and then about half the time I pull it out and pop it back in to bump charge it. I make sure to bump charge before I recalibrate. And I recalibrate one of the three batteries every two weeks or so, so they are all done every six weeks.
