Best Battery Life - Hero CDMA General

Between DamageControl, Aloyious, ZenEXP, and Fresh 2.0D, which ROM has the best overall battery life, I need to test it. Took my phone to sprint because I fully charged, and unplugged and it shot straight to 75%, then died in 2.5hrs. I then charged it for 2hrs and unplugged, straight to 14% low warning, then in 3 mins on NO USAGE, it game me the 9% warning, so which is best on battery
Thanks In Advance,
Tee Jay

Sounds like its a physical battery problem to me. Otherwise, personally i've only tried DC and Fresh. Both have great battery life and ultimately, it just came down to preference between the two for my decision.
on a side-note...don't think this belongs in this thread.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, i felt like it belonged here because it is a ROM question. Sprint tested the battery, all seems well...said its probably because of my "setup". he said go back to original and see if its better, if not he will replace it. But i dont want original, I want 2.1
thanks,

None of the roms I have tested killed the battery that fast. The worst was 6 hours with Fresh Toast 2.0b and that has been fixed. You have a physical problem with the phone or battery. Never believe a Sprint rep.

Yeah.. That's definitely not a ROM issue. Get your battery/phone replaced.

Okay, well I have just put DC back on and I will see what comes of it. About how long should my phone last using moderate texting, maybe 2-3 short calls and about 65% time w/o signal (happens when I'm at work, cant use airplane mode because of my children)?
Thanks,
Tee Jay

It should AT THE VERY LEAST get through a work day. Even when I was using Fresh Toast 2.0b1 with the 100% awake time, I would get to the end of a 7 hour shift at work, albeit, it was at about 18% when I got home.. But thats with the phone being awake for 8 hours straight.

Hm, alrighty, ill run through tomorrow at work with DC on it, and ill post back
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the input!

Damage Control Battery Usage
I've been using Damage Control ROM with PRL set to CDMA auto. I use the phone for sending and receiving texts/phone calls all day. I check Facebook periodically and I do searches on the internet throughout the day. To give you an idea of my battery statistics for the last 23 hours (off charge):
Up Time:22:34
Awake Time: 1:29
TWS: 0%
Current battery level: 50%
Needless to say, I'm happy with my current battery usage.

Yesterday after 15 hours I still had over 30% remaining using FreshToast 2.0b2 with SetCPU on "performance."

Have you tried calibrating the battery?
1. Charge it to full.
2. Boot in recovery.
3. Select wipe.
4. Wipe battery stats.
5. Use phone until it dies.
6. Recharge phone to full.

Or get a extended battery and not worry bout it.

i have the extended battery.. and I barely get a day out of mine with fresh 2.0d. And most of its time is spent in standby.. It was fully charged when I went to bed last night.. and was almost dead when I woke up... 12a to 9a..... the extended battery lasts about as good as the standard, IMO

I am gonna take a guess and say it was 9.95 and from Hong Kong.

There's definitely something wrong with that picture.. If you had it fully charged when you went to sleep, and nearly dead in the AM.. I would say that you've got either 100% Awake time OR A ****ed up battery..
I've went to bed with the phone off the charger at 100% and it was down to maybe 85 when I woke up 8 hours later.
EDIT : Stock Battery, and at that specific time I think I was running IceRom, or DC2.07.2..

Nope, I got the seidio one. My husbands phone has the same seidio battery.. but 1.5 and he says his works great.. so, hell maybe its something Im doing. I did just update to the latest fresh 2.1 rom, so we'll see.
It did seem to last longer while roaming, though.. I have a airave at home, but not at the farm... and it lasted well over a day while roaming.

YEah actually, my new born daughter is scared of airplane mode since she was 6 weeks early, spent 3 weeks in west penn NICU and got sent home on a monitor because she has bradycardia and respiratory distress. So just go somewhere else, because ur not needed here if you are just going to poke fun at my post. I'm looking for mature suggestions, which is what these forums are for, people to ask questions and other ppl to give INTELLIGIBLE responses.

Battery keeps getting better....

Ive had my phone for a month now nad the battery seems to be getting better. Ive resently done a task 29 and updated to Artemis v9 with radio version 2.09 and from 4:30 yesterday afternoon I took it off charge its gone down to 90%. Thats doing light txting and web. Im amazed....
exactly the same experience for me, using the hd2 since december and battery now lasts almost 3 days from time to time
i even bought a second battery to replace it when im not at home lol.. but not that important anymore
and yea, im surfing everyday and text very much, some phone calls too, normal use..
i love it xD

I usually wait until it gets down to about 10% charge, then top it up.
But, it does get trickle charges during the week while plugging into my car.
i also found my battery getting better
with 40% brightness, from 8:30am online to surf web until 4pm, still have 40%
i think because it uses less cpu processing power and speaker sound(play games or movie), that's why battery can last longer
your probably find that a lot of it is down to how much you use it, Obviously when you first get a phone for the first couple of weeks your going to be using it constantly, figuring out new things and just general playing about, once you have gotten used to it you dont do as much, its not very noticable as its gradual but thats one of the reasons why battery life gets better.
83% now after a bit more txting and a little bit of facebook. ive been charging around 30 40%
I completely agree about the battery, I'm actually amazed
I am using Energy ROM with GTX and C00kie and I am getting a good 2 days of HEAVY usage, and i'm talking hundreds of texts, about an hour on the phone, couple hours of music, couple hours of 3G Internet with 3G on all the time.
I'm amazed.
Just run the battery out and then fully charge it and you're sorted.
Its down to understanding how Lion work.
They like being worked and the harder the better. If used like this over time they will give better and better results. There is no need to discharge or condition them in any way other than charge them as often and for as long as possible and this will maximize battery life over a few weeks. Then you see the benefits.

Battery life after initial charges- your opinions

As we all know, the Galaxy S uses a Li-Po battery.
Having previous expirience with those batteries (R/C Helicopters), i know that they require 5-10 cycles of full drain-full charge to reach full capacity and start their normal life cycle.
Not too long ago, there was a thread complaining about battery life here, but i think it was due to people checking usage time on the first or second charge only.
In this thread, i'd like to hear your opinions about battery life, but please-
Only those who passed 5 FULL drain-charge cycles, reply. We need some objective information about it.
Personally-
I'm after my 4th charge, and already seeing HUGE improvement. When i recieved it i barely managed to go through a single day, and now i'm almost 2 days since i last charged it, played some games, browsed a little, made a few calls, and i'm still over 65%.
Waiting to do 2-3 more charges and reach optimal state to see what it's worth.
Mine is a Li-Ion and lasts about a day with almost constant use.

You are correct in that initially we were told the battery type would have been a Li-Pol.
However, since the phone's release it has now come to light that the battery is in fact a Li-Ion.
I made a post that mentions this here if you wish to have a read.
I’ve had my phone approx 2 weeks, so I’m on my 5 or 6th battery recharge. My phone has been on for 1 day 20hrs now. I’ve talked on the phone for about two hours and surfed for about ¾ of an hour. Wifi has been on all the time – Bluetooth about 3hrs. Current battery level is 70% - I must say after all the gloom and doom re the latest smartphones I’m more than happy with the battery life so far and does seem to be getting better all the time.

In contrast I have had my phone since Thursday... I've charged it 4 times in 48 hours so far. I am using it a lot and am hoping I get thee performance rise soon.
Crabby
I'm pretty sure it will.
When i got my phone i charged it to full, and before the day ended i needed to chrage it again.
And now:
Last charge was thursday morning (GMT+2), and now, after 2 and a half days, i still have 40%.
I could probably go on for another full day.
My first few charges barely made it through the working day, but now the phone still has plenty of charge after 24hours. Although right now is an exception, as the lady is playing Abduction on it and will probably keep at it until the battery dies
She really should get her own Galaxy S. Although we're waiting on some GPS improvements before replacing her phone, she cant afford to get lost.

Correct.... She's far too busy keeping me in check, looking after our Granddaughter and the Farm.
I got my replacement SGS today (had to send the original one back as Carphone Warehouse messed up the order so had to send everything back just to get a new SIM) and been hammering it for 14 hours, literally 80% of that running games, using WiFi, bluetooth and GPS and I only got it down to 25% and hadn't even charged it to 100% before I couldn't wait any longer. If the battery does get better after the initial charge, I will have no problem with this phone.
Further to my earlier post...
Charged the phone to full before bed last night... All of the power widget functions of two exchange email accounts and hotmail updating every hour.
So with no other use for 8 hours the battery was at 91% when I woke up. Battery status confirmed that 57% had gone on standby and 29 % on idle
So... Presuming this bsttery use is constant when idle... My phone will be down to 70 % by 24 hours with no use?
Crabby
It varies greatly according to reception.
Good network coverage= less work for the transceiver inside the device=less power drain.
It's not really constant.

That's damn good. I actually just flashed to an almost basic stock rom, with minor tweaks and it has the new unreleased update included, and it's doing damn well.can't wait till the source gets released. They did something that's really helping battery. Itll really be something when the devs get ahold of that source code.
What rom did you end up using. I would like to try and find a rom that isnt using sence. It seams to be the real life of the party and eatting away at the battery life.
your best options are to either go with CM6 for a true AOSP rom this will have no sense wont be based on sense and will have nothing to do with sense. you will however lose 4g, HDMI and FM radio currently; or to use a sense based rom and remove the sense launcher and HC wdigets. this will keep 4g, HDMI, FM radio and will help some on battery though you are still running a sense based rom so not as good as AOSP
As for the battery usage. this isnt bad though i am surprised with the usage you listed that android system isnt in the top 2 and neither is dialer for the phone calls. Looks like the calls where very short if you received 10 of them so i will point out again that this must be with very light usage.

in all fairness, I made it to about 15 hours unplugged and still had a good 85% left on my battery with similar usage. I ended up with maybe 23 hours total before I plugged back in at around 30%. That was with baked snack 1.5, btw.
And isn't uptime just the time since the phone was last rebooted? If you don't reboot the phone that number would get into the hundreds, and has nothing to do with battery or charging right?

yes uptime is since last reboot, but last unplugged is still 13 hours with 90% battery. It went down to 80% last night, after it reached 13:40, and i watched about 30 minute video on it.

Usually, unruly battery drain is due to a rouge application you have installed.

cyan 6 has had terrible battery life for me. so i switched back to leofroyo latest beta rom and got back my 3hr/% standby battery life. with widgets and email checking every 30 minutes. i'm down to 2hr/% in standby. usually in a day i lose 25% battery life with mild internet use and calling. i charge my phone every two days. can't beat that.
Try manually closing all applications & services that are not vital to your phone, then test over a day or two. If that doesn't work, try a different kernel.

This one is good. Best in town is hard to judge, but a lot of people enjoy the battery and stability:

Try blackbar v6.1 or stockbar v6.1. Those are the FRF91 build. I haven't tried the FRG33 but it's probably pretty great as well. The first post lists the changes from stock.
I'm fighting with battery life too, but problem is not when in standby where it uses less than 1% per hour, but actually using it (browsing) you can see battery lose 1% every two minutes... is it like that for you guys also? Really frustrating me...

Don't do this. Draining lithium ion batteries to completely dead is one off the worst things you can do to those batteries. It kills off their capacity
Charge to full, turn off phone and charge again until led turns green again, then boot into recovery and wipe battery stats.

This is an excellent ROM. i've used it until i switched over to LeoFroyo. They both use the stock kernel and in my opinion i think its th best.
i also like to downclock the processor down to 800mhz with setcpu. definitely helps with the battery drain while using the phone. Non of those 925mv kernels help out in my experience.
Well I run go chat and msn constantly, I use 40 percent display, wifi, 3g, sync, etc and its about double the length I got when it was stock. Right now at 12% and I'm at 16 hours and 32 minutes! I wipe battery stats every time I flash a new radio also it seems to help

Used cm6 for ages till i tried enom's.. i got from an avg of 14hrs of battery life(cm6) to an avg of 26hrs (enom).. all with very heavy usage...

This is way better battery life than what I get on Enom's, but I get consistantly 14hours to about 15% and I use my phone a LOT.
Really eh... Well il be sure to check out some new enoms! I'm feeling this nxsense too 13 hour first day not bad for porky sense

Heavy for me means more than 3 hours on the screen being on... as im constantly using my nexus... i just cant put the thing down for a min.. and yeap enom's rom with wildmonks kernel really helps the battery..

same here on enoms. battery drain on cm6 was one of the main reasons i jumped ship to enoms

The Great Battery Experiment

I have two Arias, one freshly rooted with the rooted stock ROM and one running attn1's FR008 flashed straight from the freshly rooted state. The only additional app installed is BattStatt, so I can easily monitor battery state. One battery is new, with only a few cycles (over about a week) and one battery is older, purchased in August.
Over the next few nights I will be doing an experiment. Both phones will be on, same settings for GPS, WiFi, Data, and Bluetooth. They will only have the displays set on about every hour or so to check battery states. The following night, the test will be done again, with the batteries swapped. I will then run the test again with WiFi on, with intermittant connections due to my work environment.
I expect to update this thread after each night's experiment.
The first night is an exception, I'm comparing my normal ROM (loaded with apps, widgets, and running Tasker) My first night has been interesting...one running freshly rooted is still 100% after 1.5 hours. The FR008 with many apps is down to 89% (note that this is the older battery). Perhaps at the 4 hour mark, I shall swap them. It would be nice to do this with 2 new batteries, but I have what I have.
This is being done to lay rest to the claim that one ROM gives better battery life over another. Seems like it is going to be conclusive if the first night is any indication. Perhaps we'll see what app is the culprit? (Widgets??Tasker??)
Phone calls?
Interesting article regarding battery life
Interesting experiment !
Just FYI - an provocative article :
Your Battery Gauge Is Lying To You:
Everything You Need To Know About Bump Charging
And Inconsistent Battery Drain
No phone calls on either. Just to be fair, since one is without a sim card, both of them have data turned off.
At the 4 hour mark, the original rooted ROM is still at 100% and the FR008 with mucho is at 82%. I have swapped batteries.
This gave me an opportunity to race bootups. The stock ROM booted up and was usable before the FR008 (with UOT cooked startup bootup animation) even got to the dancing droid. Makes me want to undo that to see if that is slowing down the bootup.
I am eager to do this full swing with clean ROMs tomorrow. I shall make a backup of the FR008 ROM then go back to the aria_shipped_rooted_signed.zip
(found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=783508&highlight=Original+ROM). I will then flash FR008, adding only a widget for easy monitoring of battery levels, BattStatt.
This experiment is going to have to wait. Part 2 of last night's experiment indicated that my older battery drains fast in either device/ROM. The article linked in this thread is good reading. Thanks for that info.
My last Intruder was a Grumman A-6E.
Awesome idea
What a great idea - I hate the battery life on my Aria, and have tried multiple ROMs and multiple battery programs. I look forward to watching your progress with different settings and ongoing informational reports

I pretty much ran a similar test
I have two Aria phones - both the same age
one is stock 2.1
one is FR008
I set them both up the same - running HTC Sense -
I set the phones down (while I slept) for 8 hours
the stock phone drained 10%
the FR008 phone drained 43%
Did it twice
I know its not a 'real' test , but it does make you go hrmmmmmmmm.
If only you had a 3rd phone to throw CM into the mix! lol

You set the phone down for 8 hours and your phone drained 57% battery on idle for FR008? I find that very hard to believe because I have set my phone down over night and it drained 2% of my battery if even that. FR008 has shown the best battery life to me over the entire FR series. As of right now, my battery has been off charger for 6 hours, and Ive used the internet, wifi, and light texting with my battery at 100% still.
Edit: Im also using SetCPU...I dont know how much of a difference that would make, but there should be a difference. Try using SetCPU
FR008 is a battery drainer from hell. I just accept it.
SetCPU slows down my phone to epic proportions--no thanks.

you dont have to believe me - just telling you exactly what I have experienced
It wasnt just one night - I tested this for 3 nights straight before I made this post -
if you are running all those things for 6 hours and still show 100% - I would question that
Here is a note :
I downloaded the HK version from attn1 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819715
and noticed a much better battery life
Those of you who are exerpiencing battery issues - might want to try that one out!

I said I have been off the charger for 6 hours. Not necessarily using the phone for 6 hours. I browsed the web for around half an hour and sent about 30 texts since Ive been off the charger. I just dont see how its possible for your phone to drain 57% while youre not using it. What happens when you start using it?

I have noticed no lag with SetCPU. To each his own

When i start using it - I love it
let me try this - i am currently at 100% -
its 8:17 AM PST
I will let it sit 'idle' on my desk at work - off charge.
in one hour - i estimate that it will have dropped 2% now (new ROM)
I will report back

its 9:27 AM - my BattStat is reporting *drumroll* 100 Percent !?!

This is on the HK Rom...
Me - like

ok, just about an hour on FR008 - and now my BattStat is reporting . . . .
96% !?!
Both times - the phone was just left alone - on my desk - not being charge - not being moved at all - no touchy.....
Both were fully wiped prior to flashing
Both had LPP + DV + 3 widgets (mClock, Exteneded Controls, BattStat)
Both had turned off News/Stock sync
Both had 2 emails (Exchange, IMAP) set up
though not truely scientific - but nevertheless
HK Version showing < 1% drop
FR008 vers showing < 5% drop
dont know what to say - these are my results.
wish i had your results

Wow... to use your words "I just don't see how it's possible" that you are still at 100% after sending 30 texts and 30 minutes of web browsing. In my own experience with my 2 month old Aria, even on the stock Aria, that sounds unbelievable. Either that or your battery calibration is way off.
My HTC ARIA with FR008 drain 2% in 8 hours.
Wifi off.
GPS off.
PLANE MODE ON
Set CPU when the screen is off 200-400 MHz
Set CPU when the screen is off 200-800 MHz and work very very smooth with Live Wallpapers.
Average CPU Usage <1%
Plane mode on????
With all those things off , why not just power down
