[Q] From AT&T To Droid X or 2 - Droid X General

I am considering moving from AT&T (Tilt2 TP2) to Verizon. I LOVE the ability to optimize my experience with custom ROMS and apps. Anyone who has made the move NOT like Android 2.2 (or 2.1 in case of X) over optimized WinMo Roms?

Compared to the tp2 the X is way better multitask all day and super fast. What sucks cdma only being able to do voice or data not both unless wifi is available. The camera is night and day better and having a flash is great. Battery is weird but so was my tp2 with custom roms. And as for roms these phones perform quite well without unlike my tilt 2 which for me was horrible with atts rom so all you need is root and some themeing on the X. I miss having a stylus from time to time but that's it. Hope that helps.

Vanilla Android?

Is the Droid X using vanilla Android with some small add-on's and enhancements?
I ask because I am curious about the speed and frequency in which update will be released for in compared to Blur or SenseUI roms.

To me, for the most part, it looks like they have a custom launcher (home screen). Not much more than that. I would say we should see updates later on, Moto seems to be pretty good about this. (Droid1 is seeing Froyo, most Samsung phones for example just get dumped )

Droid x Owner Thinking of Trading out to D2, Can u anwser some questions?

I didnt know wether this would be general or because of the "technicle questions" of it it would be under develpoment. ... Dont know.. Any how
I went from a Iphone to taking a dive and trying the g1, i loved it for how much it could be modded and went from that to a eris to the droid x, and i also have a vibrant im selling at the moment, but anyhow.
I am feeling limited by my X and am wondering if the Droid 2 is more customizable or "moddable".
What kind of overclocking speeds have some of you obtained with the D2? I was getting around 2000 quadrant on my Dx until it started feeling like a portable heater and freaked me out.
Is there efuse on the Droid 2?
How good are the Rom's? Any really quick fast stable ones that are in comparison the cyanogen's old ones?
Has any one owned bother DX and D2, and witch would you prefer over the other?
I gues all in all i miss the keyboard and flip factor of my G1. I may just hit the verizon store, but i might piss them off again cause when i got my DX i told them i was rooting and tethering wheter they liked it or not. And you all are probably (vs verizon) the only ones who can really tell me the truth. Because of course to them, tethering wasent possible before..... Funny
The X and the D2 essentially have the same hardware aside from the camera. I personally like the X better. Bigger screen and better camera. Same TI 1GHz processor and 512MB ram and dedicated GPU.
As far as modding I'm not sure. Just got my D2 and its defective so verizon is sending me a new one so I haven't rooted yet. As far as overclocking, I would assume you could get the same results out of the d2 as you would the x since they have the same processor.

I love my d2. The x was just oddshaped. I moved to this from a g1. The hardware from the d2 to x is the same internally. The software is different for roms and such though. I run squidly's fullblur because I don't mind blur and no rom is going to be original code with no flavor. It is unbloated and deodexed. The 8 gig internal is good for program needs and cache. The sd slot is good for all the media you throw at it. Keyboard is solid, but not as spacious as the ally or g1.

True the keyboard could use some work, but its way better than the original droid. The d-pad thing was just hideous, and the keys aren't completely flat.

the main differences between the d2 and dx are the processor, camera, keyboard, and screen size... the dx has the slightly newer on making it capable of 720p encoding... but that could be avoided by getting the d2 global which has the right processor and can be modded for 720p (but still only a 5mp camera)
they are just as mod-able, and yes the efuse is their... however for both the d2 and dx their is an awesome rom called fission (which i use and love) that takes care of getting rid of blur and ads some more of the aosp functionality back into it.
their are other mixed roms if you like blur, for some reason, as well
i have overclocked my d2 up to 1.45, and it ran stable, however im currently running it at stock clock speeds undervolted to gain battery life (still very stable)
i think that while the dx has some better hardware the lack of a keyboard kinda screws it up (not to mention whats the point of having all that screen running at the same resolution as i have mine at) but if you were moving to a d2 go global for the processor... i would underclock it back to 300mhz-1ghz scaling though because it really is just the dx one overclocked out of the box (which just sucks for batterylife) plus you can get it in white so more people than normal will ask you how you like your iPhone
Im pretty sure the x and the d2 have the same processor.

The X has a newer version of the D2's processor and the D2G has an even newer version of the X's which the D2G processor is clocked originally @ 1.2Ghz. It's all available at the motodev website.

any of you come from the droidx?

If so. Why did you come over to the fascinate? I owned one right when it came out but the signal at my work was bad where my x has a great signal. I never had the update so I was wondering how the signal is now? And im not happy with my x batterylife. Is the fascinate better or worse on battery life? I miss the fascinate...my x just does not seem as fast....
The signal issue also seems to be fixed in the upcoming DJ05 update. If u thought the fascinate was fast then, mi e seems like a new phone e with DJ05

I purchased my phone from Costco, which gives you the ability to swap your phone for three months, so I had the fascinate for a few weeks, tried the droid x, and ultimately ended up with the fascinate. The droid x wasn't that bad until it recieved the 2.2 update. Then the wifi started cycling on and off, which is a known issue, and honestly the ui additions just make it harder to do things in comparison to stock android. I know what you're saying in terms of signal strength, it seems the DX was able to get better reception, but I haven't dropped a call with the fascinate. I haven't been able to try the update yet (if someone is feeling generous please help) but apparently, it helps to even out the signal reading. The only things that I miss about the DX are the much better gps, which is supposedly now fixed, the ability to set alert alarms in calender, which is supposedly now fixed, and the volume of turn by turn navigation, which I don't know if it has been fixed. The DX's washed out lcd was a turn off, also, the gpu is substantially weaker, and with the rumors coming down the pike of either gingerbread or honeycomb allowing gpu acceleration, I wanted to futureproof myself as much as possible. Just my thought process. I hope it helps you.
I had 2 dx's before i got the fascinate. I had wifi issues with both dx's , plus a ton of other glitches that i could no longer stand. Fascinate is an awesome device.

great info guys..
but how about the battery life compared to the X?
I didn't have the DX, but I expect to charge my battery every day or every other day, and that's pretty much what I've been doing now that my usage has become more regular. I could probably get 2 full days out of it if I charged it all night and unplugged it in the morning, but I usually unplug it at night and just go through the day.
With the StupidFast kernel, my battery life is crap, but without it I've gone 65 hours with moderate usage. That's pretty good.
I came from DX and i miss it it was so fast and with grate signal

i came from the dx , wouldnt go back . DX was a great phone , but im hitting higher quadrant scores running stupidfast kernal on my fascinate than i was overclocked to 1.4ghz on my dx . and battery life is great if you get the superpower app.
...and the screen is amazing haha
Battery life on the DX stock is a little better than a stock fascinate (at least in my area, where I can actually roam off of verizon's 1x network and there is only 1 3G tower in town), but you can reflash the fascinate kernel and/or change the software to make it last much much longer. The short of it is that the battery life for either device is dependent on what you do with it and what apps/widgets you have running at all times. From a technical standpoint, the fascinate battery can carry more of a charge, but from talk time numbers alone, the DX battery will last longer. Again, that is only for bone stock handsets running android 2.1
I had the Droid X
Pros: Screen Size
Battery Life was Great for Me!
Build Quality was the best!
Signal was the best of any droid Ive had!
GPS was Amazing and Fast!!
Cons:Size it was to big for me
Camera was horrible and I hate the button
Now I came to the fascinate because of size, screen beauty, capactive keys at bottom, weight super light (trade off is its made of plastic), faster CPU, better GPU for future games (as of now i feel theres no good ones)...but madden soon!!
Now i said faster CPU but because of touchwiz.....it will feel slower!!! But thats because of touchwiz not the phone!!
touchwiz sux ass......and not untill froyo will you be able to trully disable it and install a true rom. Devs prefer to work on froyo.
But i know a few guys are porting sense over to it!!!! But you can use launcher pro as of now which I love.
All around the galaxy s phones are better........but get ready for sloooooowwww support!!!
I have had all the Droid phones for Verizon and I just feel that the size of the Fascinate is the sweet spot for me.... kinda like goldilocks. Not too big, not too small, just right. lol
I like the hardware on the Fascinate... it has sooooo much potential we just have to get the software to make it right!

Seriously, thats sick. I wish any phone of mine could last more than a day, let alone 2.

Did you try the solutions found in the Stupidfast 1.2.3 thread ????
They really worked for me, and quite a few others.
As I've said a million times Dj05 update that is in the pipeline for xda is a huge bugfixers my phone is far more faster and fluid than my old x ever thought about being.

i went from the droid 2 and i prefer the screen size, it is just right like a lot of people are saying. only thing i would really have to consider if i was you was the software issue... samsung has a terrible rep and they are kinda living up to it w/ this device.. i hate to say it but we are following the same path as the behold 2 right now..
where as the droid x there is absolutely no doubt that you will see gingerbread and possibly beyond..
well i had X for about 2 months then with all the locked bootloader issues and moto update probs I decide to try the fascinate and it has been great, with the new DJ05 update its even better. still have X but selling to get Galaxy tab

[Q] Boss's Droid X

My boss is not liking his Droid X since the last update. Lockups, reboots, etc, etc. I'm looking for a solution to keep him on the droid path, and away from crapple. What would be the best ROM for a non-technical user? Something I can set and forget for him, or update every so often as needed. One of his biggest complaints outside of the others is how the phone segment of the system works. It's just not to his liking. Any suggestions you all have would be great.
Thanks much!
Apex 1.4.1 or the latest blur
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
DarkSlide was the first ROM I used (back when I didn't know much about ROMs) and was very happy with it. It is very stable and heavily themed straight out of the box.
Apex1.4.1 has been the most stable in my opinion
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yeah but guy's, he said he's looking for something for a non technical user. Those AOSP non blur ROMS are not for the everyday user IMO. They are for people like us who customize, non stop. They don't even come with the blur camera... I'd imagine if he wants his phone simple he wants the good blur camera on it... If you're looking for something totally stable, easy to use, that almost looks stock, but operates more smoothly, I'd go with an older ROM like birdman's FlyX... That was my 1st rom I ever flashed. Its very easy. Looks almost stock, but runs twice as fast. Nothing fancy, and nothing really missing... Or perhaps a Drewgaren ROM, like ZapX 2.4... Thats the version with the blur. Just my opinion. I know how "bosses" are. Not very technical, which is the reason your boss is probably wanting an iPhone... LOL.
ApeX 1.4.1... Fast as ****, stable as it gets and as much Blur as he wants.
Plus he'll probally give you a raise. Lol.

Apex. Its fast, I have great battery life and it looks good.

Now that I got that over with...yeah, either Apex or Liberty. I believe you can install a good deal of Blur apps (including the camera) on either of those ROM's.

[Q] best rom for speed

Let me give a little background before i ask my question. I personally run a Samsung epic 4g and have been on Cyanogen Mod 7 for a while. Obviously its not the RC as the epic its self isn't supported, however, i find it to be a great rom to run in day to day situations despite loosing camera functionality.
My friend has a Droid X and hes really unhappy with it at the moment because the rotation lag and the keyboard lag make it almost unusable. Recently, I rooted it for him, hes running .602, and I've been thinking about putting him on a Init rom like CM7 because i want him to see what android should really be like. He doesn't use the phone for anything other than texting and Phone calls so a slim fast rom would be the best for him. The one problem with putting him on the nightly builds for CM7 is that he might loose some functionality on his phone, and knowing him, even if he doesnt use it, he would hate to not have his camera working or his gps working poorly. He that kind of person.
What would be the best rom to start him on to slim down the system, kill all the blurrness, and still keep as much functionality as possible? Remeber hes on .602, id like to be able to keep him on that so that I don't have to use SBF.
Is the Droid x version of CM7 stable enough for every day useage or should i look at some of the variants that have been made?
CM7.
he'll lose HD vid recording, but the "high" recording(which works) is plenty suffice, imo.
bat life is fine. 18-20hrs on avg use.
CM is stupid fast on the DX. I love it.
(oh & have never had issues with my GPS)
If you go for CM7, make sure to get the version for Gingerbread kernel, not the Froyo one. Battery life on GB is improved

yep..good point on gb kernel
CM7 is the fastest rom that I have used on the DX. As for the GB kernel, there are unofficial nightlies that are running on the kernel, but the official nightlies will be updated with the GB kernel within the next week...
It may be easier to jump on the official nightlies and wait a few days instead of having to do a lengthy install process twice.
so i should put him on the nightlys? All hell loose is video? If that's true then it will be perfect since he doesn't use that feature at all on his phone. Thanks.
Shuji is an execellent rom...it runs faster than cm7 for me. I have run both the .596 and .602 and both are very stable

ya, he'll be fine on nightly. you don't lose video completely. you just lose 720p recording is all. you still can record in 480p, which still looks surprisingly good
I had a wonderfully experience with omgb 1.2.2
It was godly fast. It honestly impressed me more than cm7 and I run it on most of my other phones.

yes. nightly 78 here. I am waiting for gb in the non dev nightlies, too
the CM7 forum thread on nightlies latest chatter mentions something about BT bugs that I plan to test but haven't gotten around to it yet.
droidwall and andguard pro are absolute musts to keep the malware in the market from sizzling away bandwidth on ads. adservers are slow. blocked connections kills slowness.

apex is ok, but you can't compare any other ROM to CM when talking about UI speed, imo
I'm still waiting for a stable cm7 for the Droid x on gingerbread to come out. AS soon as that happens ill be on cm7
