[Q] VZ Fascinate issue - Fascinate General

I have a fascinate and I put a brightness control widget on it since that's all I really use from the built in power control widget, when I was using it - it cycled the display brightness down to 0, and the display turned off. It will still show boot animations and I can get to the recovery menu, but even after multiple hard resets once the boot animations finish, I have nothing on the display and the buttons below the screen don't light up. Any suggestions?

You will probably need to reflash the stock tar ROM via Odin. Do some searching about Odin and find a stock Fascinate ROM

where to find roms
any ideas on where to find a stock fascinate rom? i've read in some forums that they've been floating around, but I can't find them anywhere through google (so far at least).
Thanks!

Exchange it, unless you feel adventurous enough to mess with ODIN and vanilla 2.1 kernel

Screen On While Charging

I was unable to find any setting to allow the screen to remain on while the phone is charging.
It would be nice to have for the Home and Car apps
It's under "development" where you turn on and off usb debugging.

on a side note, as slow as the phone charges, it will barely keep up with screen on running a live wallpaper.... i was watching voltages and temps this morning...
CM needs to up charge voltage like he did on the g1
Now that it's updated to Froyo, how do you keep the screen on while charging? Especially hate it wen on G-maps and it keeps shutting off.
I think there are widgets but I thought you had to enable them first before running any other app.
Thanks guys for all the knowledge.
I am running into this also, I know that there was an option to keep the display on always while charging but that option is gone the way of the dodo...
Currently running
2.2
Kernel 2.6.32.9
Build is FROYO.UVKB5
If you can list a widget or even a change to the build.prod that could be changed or added that would be great.
Any change of getting a build.prod from an eclair build maybe there is a difference that could be found, maybe this functionality could be added back in or made accessible.
try screebl from the market.
mine is under development
On my phone, it's under development also.

This option is not available on some roms. I had it in eclair.ji6. I'm running stock froyo.uvka6, not there anymore.
I now use Widgetsoid ($1.46) which has a widget to toggle screen always on.

I searched the market and there appears to be a utility just for keeping the screen always on. I haven't tried it, just posting it in case you want to try it.

Screen Suite Lockscreen also has an option to keep screen always on.

Questions about standby mode

I may have asked this before, but I'm not sure.
My A500 has a custom ROM on it, but its had this problem on multiple roms. I haven't tried on stock yet, but that's probably my next step. Anyways, here are my questions:
- How long can you usually leave your A500 in standby mode and still wake it up?
- Is there a way to manually put the tablet into sleep mode?
When I first got it, I remember leaving my A500 in standby mode (it should automatically go into standby when you idle, right?) and being able to wake it by hitting the power button almost a day later. Now I can only do it for a few hours and then it won't come out of sleep. I'll have to turn it off by holding the power button down (even though there is no indication that it is turning off), then I can turn it on again. Sometimes my battery will be depleted, apparently indicating that it did not properly go into sleep mode?

Usually I can leave it in sleep mode for well over a day, and it still wakes.
Press the PWR button will put it to sleep.
I would guess, the problem is Kernel related. This sometimes happens with kernels that supply Over/Under voltage. Usually for overclocking. Most of the newer kernels walk a fine line with trying to get maximum battery life, and your tab may suffer "the sleep of death" and require a hard re-boot.
I would advise one of the older kernels, like RTrips 3.4+ or Thors 3.7. Try to stay away from the most recent kernels.
Also, a few of the custom 500 roms, are really "cooked". Lots of changes to the rom itself.
You may want to try a lightly stock rom with a lower version kernel. This will fix the sleep of death issue.
As with your battery, the usual stuff like wifi/gps on, notifications, syncs, these all cause battery drain.
I leave my wifi on, but my syncs are set to every hour. Mail, Sms, and FB (silent). GPS is hard set to off. Widget refreshes also are 4 hrs.
I lose maybe 6% or so overnight.
All of the above is true there is one more issue that can occur . Google backup and restore.a bad app that you keep getting restored by the above.
if all else fails you can try the fallowing..
download a near stock rom.. with STOCK Kernel .
in cwm
of course wipe all
format all..
flash rom..
wipe all again.. (you know all of that)
if im having a app issue.. to find the app.
when your tablet boots the first time.. when you get to setting up your google account.. untick the boxes for backup and restore of data.. then install your apps one at a time back . to see what app is causing the trouble.. Of COURSE this all only applies if the rom flash does not work.. google often puts the problem back.. Ti backup will do the same .. put issues back.. Trial and Error is only way to solve this issue. ITS THE ONE MOST COMMON AND MOST TALKED ABOUT ISSUE WITH not only our tablet but all of android devices..
GOOD LUCK ..

Thanks to both of you. I needed reassurance that my tablet wasn't just messed up. I have a warranty on it and was thinking about getting it replaced and seeing how the new one behaved, but I'll try the suggestions. I'll probably try to reload my ROM after formatting and start with just the base apps and add one at a time as you suggested. If that doesn't work, I'll try a different kernel or ROM with a different kernel. I've already tried not using SetCPU to under/overclock, but that didn't work. Thanks again!
Another (relatively rare) issue is that the kernel you're using actually is flawed and fails to wake the GPU after it went to sleep (this may be a lot later than the device itself, depending on background services!). In this case using a different kernel will solve the issue (stock kernel is works).
EDIT: Posted at the same time... By all means try another kernel, this is a known evil with custom ones.
Okay, so I've tried installing the stock, rooted 3.2 ROM which uses the stock kernel. Did not restore any apps from Google Backup. Still getting the same issue. Does this point to a hardware issue? I have a warranty on this tablet, so I want to know if I should try trading it in.
OK, before you take your tab back, personally, I wouldn't worry about it.
I have noticed, on some occassions, (yes, I do run stock rooted on occasion), that sometimes, the tab will get what we call the sleep of death. And usually, this may occur over a long period of time. Also, sometimes, I have to hit the pwr button several times, before it wakes.
+1 with the PP on overclocked kernels. This happens with the most recent ones.
Fortunately, System Tuner Pro, will increase MB voltages, so you don't get this.
If it does it again, and you are on stock, try to press the pwr button several times.
cool, thanks. I'll try this today.

Mine has never worked on any rom with any configuration. Turning off wifi helps sometimes.

UI aside - best stock ROM on any phone I've ever had

Really surprised but this is by far the best stock ROM I've ever had on any phone ever. The UI is not really to my liking but I can work around that with a different launcher and whatever but man the ROM itself is just amazing - it has all the features I'd flash a custom ROM for built right in. I really don't find myself wanting to root to flash custom ROMs.
Some things I've noticed that remind me of custom ROMs (cyanogenmod, AOKP, etc.) and tweaks that people usually do:
- Battery percentage in status bar is just an option - simple
- Vibration profiles - different types of vibration and can even do custom
- Vibration intensity for all haptic feedback
- Extended power widget that scrolls in notification bar
- Notification that phone is fully charged and to unplug
- Notification that you've connected to Wifi and a hidden ongoing notification (only see when you pull down shade) of the name of the Wifi AP that you're connected to
- Power saving mode that includes CPU downclock, GPU downclock, etc. Never seen that before on stock ROMs
- You can still have a shortcut screen and then go to a lock screen. Stock ICS doesn't allow this - if you have security you lose features of shortcuts, etc.
Anybody found others? I'll update as I find things.
good feedback, i am just thinking if you have the notifications running won't that drain your battery faster? how you doing on battery life with the features you running?
I had 3 hours of screen time last night (I only got it yesterday) from a full charge and it was only down to 50% so pretty good. Standby is great so far and overall battery seems very very good IMHO. Will need a week of use to know for sure.

It's nice to see that Samsung utilized his input in their flagship product.

Retired Nexus S 4g

I apologize if I should have put this elsewhere, I will learn rapidly I swear.
I recently switched carriers to Verizon for a GS3, this has left my old Nexus S 4g with little purpose in life. I want to set it up as a ipod touch like device for my fiancee but I am hesitant mostly because in its life as a phone it was riddled with problems both on stock and custom roms. The most prevalent of these issues was the fact that it would freeze up randomly and need the battery pulled. On the stock rom when this happened the homescreen buttons would light up but be non responsive and the screen would be lit but all black and was else wise unresponsive. I have searched for these symptoms on numerous occasions but never found any real info. On custom roms it would do much the same thing but the buttons didn't always light up. So I was wondering if anyone else ever experienced these problems and if they over came them. Also wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a rom to use that would keep my fiancee from tripping over some functionality that no longer works. I've read lots of rom descriptions and their are a great many choices but I need help narrowing it down. I currently have CM9 installed and I've use some of the tweaks to put the phone on airplane mode to disable the cell phone radio and hide the air plane icon and I have a launcher that lets me hide unusable apps like phone and messenger. Wondering if anyone had a more elegant solution.

I would suggest running Provision as your ROM, with Air Kernal. The consider using the Xperia Home Launcher; that will allow you to hide apps like the phone and limit the number of screens.
Slimrom 3.0 is good since it has no bloatware and it already has a launcher that allows hiding of unused apps on home screen and app drawer.
Put the phone on airplane mode and ur good to go for a WiFi media player for music, movies, games and browser.
Once the kernel settles in, u should have great battery life.
Good luck
Just make sure u flash the basic slim ROM gapps... the one without Google now and other battery sucking apps
Vs Nexus S4G using tapatalk2

[Q] Turn off CPU status notification

I just installed the latest (( ROM )) Sacs Custom 4.3 Rom 1-26-14 V5.5 ultra onto my GS4 and I love the ROM. I love the ROM and only have one complaint and I'm hoping it will be easy to resolve. There is a nearly constant display of CPU usage in the left side of the Notification panel. It is flashing numbers about every 5 seconds. When I open Notifications I also see a small bar just below the widgets that displays status for CPU0-CPU3. I assume the two are related.
Anyway, I want to turn it off since it crushes my battery display, burns through my battery faster, and is generally annoying. I have not been able to find a way to disable this...feature. I don't see it in Pimp My Rom although I am wary to mess with anything in there.
Can someone please tell me how to turn this off. It's driving me crazy.
Thanks,
S
