I am quite certain that CM6 IS Froyo.

should i root and get cm6 or wait for froyo
hmm

cm6 ftw, well if they get the touch screen to work atleast -_-

Nice news. Hardly wait to flash this on my buzz

This is Froyo, and it's my screenshot.
We had it booting on the Wildfire but the touchscreen wasn't working.
HCDRJacob and DanneJo are working on it I think. It's still far away from a working ROM.

should i root or wait and get OTA Froyo update
i really dont know

if you want froyo, well wait for a froyo release as there is none yet.. if you want root then root it

what im trying to say is, should i wait for froyo or root and wait for CM6

Well that is up to your needs -_-
you will still have to root if you want CM6, if you just want froyo and doesnt need anything you can do with root, then wait for froyo.

basicly what i want is my wildfire to be the fastest it can be and since CM can support overclocking aswell wouldnt it be the better choice?

Unrevoked released a new update which can root 2.2 sense phones, so the wildfire should be easily rooted when its updated.

you dont need to root 2.2 via unrevoked, if you have custom recovery now. you NEVER need to use unrevoced to root your phone agin.
Its just to download an ruu.exe and extraxt rom.zip from that file. from rom.zip we remove radio and recovery/hboot. when we never need to worry abute new protection from HTC.
I will release asap the new 2.2 update whitout any modifications besides removing radio and recovery/hboot. it will be exactly as updating from HTC OTA.

Wait, i may not get it right but... this means... that if the rom will be fixed, and perfectly work. we have non official froyo?

wait wait im a massive noob im getting confused so if i root now, would i be able to OTA update to froyo or not? im really new to this stuff

whne you take it from OTA there is a chance that htc upgrade recovery and you wont be able to root later..
if you take a ROM with 2.2 you wont get that protection from htc that makes it impossible to root..
so what danne_jo means is that its better to root now than take it from OTA

How to Brick it for Upgrade

Is there way that I can brick my phone to get Android 2.1 on it. I guess Sony is not going to come up with 2.1 for people who already got the phone.
What? None of that makes sense at all. You're not gonna get a free upgrade if you screw up your phone, and why do you think SE wont release an OTA upgrade for 2.1?

In all fairness this is the most ridiculous thing I have seen on this forum for ages. Why sony would not give the update to pepole who have the phone but would give it to those who bricked their one?
But, if you want to brick your x10 I recommend trying to delete all the files from the phone (not the card) or maybe just trying to install some erroneous application or maybe trying to flash the soft with some files changed in SEUS?

2.X
An upgrade to 2.x will come. Let say 2.1. 2.3 are released and SE won’t upgrade to 2.3. Is there any way to skip SE and upgrade to a clean Android OS when it come from Goggle, 2.1-> 2.2 ->2.3-> O.S.V instead?

wait till it's rooted, after the root you can use your own custom roms
i dont' want no "clean" roms, i don't want to miss the sony apps.
as soon it is rooted you'll also see custom roms that still have MS, TS and he great cam-app.
BUT google is already working on stopping the fragmentation of android platform.
as long as sony provides a 2.2 rom it will be possible to get system upgrades thru the market.
if you really wana brick your phone, just drop it down the toilet.
has worked well for me with my old phones after nights out

will i be able to install this manually like i did the leaked .3 version or will it mess up my phone
Engadget
I just read this on Engadget, I have to say I give HTC and Sprint a lot of credit for under promising and over delivering in my opinion. I absolutely love this phone and to know that both the carrier and the manufacturer are fully behind supporting the phone after launch is a great relief! I never hear of companies doing anything early or at least on time when it comes to software updates...I'm pleasantly surprised!

yea good question, I don't mind losing root to install this...but do I just wipe and flash this file as is...because I have fresh's ROM installed now...

3.2 update rolling?

I've been getting the 14MB update prompt for a couple weeks.. I keep saying no since I'm rooted.
Tonight I'm get the 14MB update prompt and another system update prompt that doesn't have any details with it..
My guess is that 3.2 is rolling out.
Anyone else getting it?
nope.
3.2 update should be 300Mb+, not 14Mb.
He said it was aside from the 14MB update, but had no details. I haven't gotten anything though.

I'm on 4.010.13_com_gen2. It's not 3.2 unfortunately.
It does fix the wifi issues though.
I have 4.010.13_com_gen2 installed and I have recently starting having the Wifi issues.
If I'm not mistaken, the 14mb installation only updates a few applications on the device. I've not seen anything special. But I have noticed I get a FC on the camcorder application. Not sure if that was updated or not.
Safe to update when rooted
I've rooted my Iconia but I don't run a custom ROM. Has it been safe in the past to update Android when rooted?

I'm rooted as well but I've done nothing to the system other than alter unlock and lock sounds. I downloaded and installed the 14mb update and all is well. I think with any update, it's hit or miss. Just uproot and install if you're still running stock rom.

Hey Everyone,
I did not notice this information posted anywhere else, and this thread seemed like a good spot to share it, so I did not create a new thread. I saw this on the actual ACER Facebook page:
Acer
Dear fans, many of you asked for the release of the Honeycomb 3.2 update for Acer ICONIA TAB A500/A501. We’ve just received confirmation today that the update will start from mid of September to the end of the month depending on the product models and countries. We wanted to provide a stable and problem-free OS to our customers. Stay tuned. We will keep you posted!

jvx and jvw are here now which is a 100% clean stock version
no pre rooted or other stuff
i highly doubt an ICS build from samsung since theyve already announced builds for galaxy s 2 and a few other devices but no mention about about galaxy s and if you are a true flashaholic flash CUSTOM ROMS also the onecosmic ICS AOSP build is much better with less bugs and faster in general
I don't think we 'll have ICS
I think that there wont come ics for gt9000. But try teamhacksungs ics mod. Pretty good now, love it

i would love to do this but for 4.0 i will wait till its developed all a little further and they fixed the hardware acceleration. and when all stuff works. ill do it.
but i have never flashed custom roms you need root and stuff and need to backup that uhmmm idk the name but the imei, but you need root for that.
i only flashed tons of stock roms. and i look forward in trying 4.0 soon is it already good enaf for fulltime use ?
Would love ICS from Samsung, but I'll settle for CM9..

3.2 OTA finally hits Canada

I just got the 3.2 OTA update today on my 16GB Canadian WIFI model.
Sure seems a lot snapper than the 3.1
Rom version is VLKL2
Rob
which means we wont get ics before another 6 months...
I got bored of waiting for Samsung update and flashed Overcome 2.2.0.
I'm not going to come back to stock but thanks for the info
Great news for the stock rockers but to little to late for me . Won't beat tasks roms
Going to pick it up tho just to have a stock backup.
Yup I just got my update too. I was getting ready to make a thread about this also. Hopefully ICS will still arrive for us in the spring.
Yeah but I bet there will be some great custom ics rom before samsung release it in Canada.
I am contemplating on doing the update as well.. but would like to know first if all data will be wiped out after the update?
Thanks in advance for any input...
no data gets wiped it all stays on the tablet.
Is there an Odin flashable version of this?
I got mine too but I don't see the difference. Does anyone know what was changed in this version?
Here in Greece the 3.2 update came about a week ago.
The only noteworthy thing that i noticed changed, was the RAM use of the device.
At bootup with 3.1, the device was registering with ~250MB of free ram and with 3.2 the device registers something less than 400MB (usually around 370~395) of free ram, even after many hours of use.
Got the update in France.
Changes noticed :
- look of back button changed
- market version changed
- seems slower on back and home keypresses (like 1-2 seconds)
- AllShare Samsung DLNA application added
- bug in reconnect to wifi after sleep with Wifi activated.

So having a custom kernal doesnt hinder getting updates from Samsung directly? Would i need to flash the unroot file to get proper updates working again?
KL2 has wifi direct built in, stock browser has flash turned on, allshare app built in and live wallpaper doesn't cause excessive lag. Some minor updates to the GUI for stock apps and widgets. Weather widget now has option to update hourly vs. 3 hours before. It is android 3.2 as opposed to 3.1.
The default screen has been changed in the order of apps but that's cosmetic as all the usual stock apps are there. You may need to turn wifi on after update and vibrate is on all the time but this can be adjusted.
