edit: now that i think about it, i'm not that excited. I'm already running this, so I don't know how much better this OTA is going to be...

Saw it myself and here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/02/evo-4g-starts-getting-android-2-2-update-over-the-air/

will i be able to install this manually like i did the leaked .3 version or will it mess up my phone

Engadget
I just read this on Engadget, I have to say I give HTC and Sprint a lot of credit for under promising and over delivering in my opinion. I absolutely love this phone and to know that both the carrier and the manufacturer are fully behind supporting the phone after launch is a great relief! I never hear of companies doing anything early or at least on time when it comes to software updates...I'm pleasantly surprised!

nand backup and give it a shot, you will most likely lose root

yea good question, I don't mind losing root to install this...but do I just wipe and flash this file as is...because I have fresh's ROM installed now...

I realize that but there saying that this can be used to "update" leakers back to 1.5 so they can get the 2.1 ota.
No it cant be.
1) It's an older version rom, the bootloader wont allow it
2) It's not even for the eris
3) VZW is dumb

Oh I see you posted this already... Uh oh nobody get mad at me now. I don't read too good

Back on topic: yes vzw is pretty dumb. Told them my phone was having bugs like crashing and loudness when I was on 2.1 leak and they said it was because of a virus and wiped my phone.

Download link
Once again, we're looking for a download link from android.clients.google.com, not a dump. It should be in the form of http://android.clients.google.com/packages/passion/signed-passion-FRF72-from-FRF50.????????.zip where the ???????? has 4.2 billion possible hex combinations. So, we need someone to look at their logcat output before pressing "Install" on the update screen to find out what the file was named.
Most likely an incremental update and of no use to us.

Just checked the sprint website and it's not posted there. Wouldn't it be there if people are starting to get OTA notifications?
Latest they have on the website is DI18
I think its just a Voice Mail update, That's all I've seen.

Pretty sure you will need a stock 2.1 rom before you can get the Froyo OTA update once it is released.
ok maybe i am not making myself clear. I don't want any OTA updates. I want only custom roms, which I can update here. Is that possible?
EPIC FAIL!
May your boy or a girl, whichever way you go, cause the same false alarm for you next time you wanna have sex!

Great, you did great things over there with your Axura Roms, cant wait to see what you do with this!
Wifi error on this ROM too just like the DeOdex version of yours.
Do I need to flash the latest radio before installing? Or is the latest radio worked into this ROM? Thanks
My internet browser is crashing often with this ROM. Anyone else experiencing this?
I was having the same issue on other roms.. Believe it or not.. a simple reinstall of Adobe Flash fixed it.. everytime.. on every rom..
give it a try.. worth one anyway..

I was hoping to flash this to get my wifi working again. >.< Im going to flash this in and hope it gets mine working.
This may be asking much, but would there be any way you could post or pm me the apk's for "flashlight" and "setup wiz"? Or if you have a copy of the ROM with those 2 still in it lying around that you could pm me? I'd like to get me a stock ROM back because, thanks in large part to the latest update for cwm, I lost everything stock-ish for my phone.

you all realize the best part, right?
it was this time last year that froyo reached a few people. then, it was reportedly "delayed" because it needed bugs to be worked out...and then the rest of us didn't get froyo until the first and second weeks of september lol...was a very frustrating few months back then!
then again, froyo ruined my inc anyway, and there was awful typing lag after my update, so i'd never trust an OTA again lol; gotta love rooting!
hahaha oh man and to think I was going to unroot my phone to wait for the OTA this week.
I have to say, this forum is awesome! I was pretty scared to flash the leaked 2.3.4 posted by Joel earlier this morning but with a few helpful posts I banged it out in no time. Thanks XDA!

(Sorry.... just couldn't resist...)
Really, I would re-root and regain some control over the phone.
As far as the full wipe vs. clear dalvik cache, some have had acceptable results just clearing the cache. Others have had to go the full wipe route.
If you are so inclined, you could try just clearing the dalvik cache. If you encounter issues, take the full wipe approach.
