Does Vibrant really have gorilla glass or it only Euro Galaxy S? - Vibrant General

Hello Everyone.
I saw a a video proving that galaxy s has a gorilla glass but that was the internation version not the vibrant!
Is there any official news that T-mobile vibrant has the same glass?
Because a lot of people assume vibrant does beacause it looks similar in design. Similar doesnt mean anything! Euro galaxy has a front cam while vibrant doesnt.
Can anyone confirm that vibrant has the gorilla glass or doesnt?
Because I applied a t-mobile screen protector and its very poor quality makes the screen look very grainy!
Thanx to all!

If you go to the corning website it states that the galaxy s has gorilla glass.

Corning is the company that developed and manufactures gorilla glass.

It says Galaxy S... it doesnt say T-mobile vibrant! Galaxy S could be any phone! Note since its a Korean website and samsung is a a Korean company they might only be making it for European/Korean Galaxy S models

How about this. Take a key and scrape the hell out of your screen and then see if it does any damage. Then you'lll know

It does not, but they did add their own super tough screen onto it... I don't know if it is just as durable, but durability is better than no durability, especially on this huge gorgeous screen!

the big ass scratch right down the middle of my screen begs to differ, put it in my backpack when went to the beach, took it out later, and bam, huge ass scratch. good thing i have gorilla glass huh? fail
oh nevermind, post above me says tmob doesn't have gorilla glass. no wonder. was gonna say, this glass is pretty ****ty imo

I don't think the vibrant is gorilla glass, because I have several small scratches on my screen from only having it and my wallet in the same pocket.

i think it has chimpanzee glass, not too sure though

It's not gorilla glass.....mine is scratched already and it was from the metal clip on my belt...

wow. so many people complaining about scratches. i though i was the only one.
this is the FIRST phone (out of Nexus, MyTouch, iPhone, and few others) that has a deep scratch on the screen, and in LESS then a month, and with bodyglove ON

Yes i think you said it....it's one thing to get small lights scratches......but this is indeed a very deep scratch and you can see it no matter what you are doing with the phone...

I guess once again we got ripped off and this time its Gorilla Glass......
oh well, I am getting my replacement Vibrant tommorow and already have Steinheil anti fingerprint screen protector.

The answer is *NO*.
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/full-products-list
Galaxy Note and Galaxy Nexus does not have Gorilla Glass. Full list above.
DISCLAIMER: Next statement is not my own research, just copied from another post.
Gorilla Glass was trademarked in 2008 for Corning's alkali aluminosilicate glass, their patent for such glass ran out some 20 years ago, anyone can make as much alkali aluminosilicate glass as they want without having to pay Corning for a name, Apple uses alkali aluminosilicate glass in the iPhone not Gorilla Glass. Using a non-name version isn't what makes them fail drop tests, since alkali aluminosilicate glass isn't shatterproof by whatever you call it but due to the design of the phone itself, alkali aluminosilicate glass is just more scratch resistant and a bit more bendable.
Also note that Corning has collaboration with Samsung for manufacturing of glass:

Right. But question remains why would Samsung not mention it if it's there? Samsung mentioned previously when they used Gorilla glass in their devices.
I'm really curious if the GNote has Gorilla Glass, I wanted it to be my first device that I didn't have to apply a screen protector to! Strange how there's no official word from Samsung to confirm whether GGlass is included or not.
So, regardless of gorilla glass, is anyone using a screen protector?

When the note was first announced on sep 1st, the official samsung page listed it as having gorilla glass. I see now that it has gone from their page.
Quite dissapointed, I did buy it believing that it had it, seeing as I was all over this thing from the moment it was announced. Gorilla glass was one of the first specs I sought to confirm

Personally I dislike screen protectors. One thing that's really good about the Note screen is how it just does not pick up finger marks. It's amazingly resistant to prints. Better than any device I've used in the past. Maybe if you text after munching through a KFC family bucket it might show something... I doubt if a screen protector would have as a good a resistance. My preference is to just use the official flip cover.

Eagerly awaiting for an official statement or reply to you, stating whether that the Note does indeed haven't got a Gorilla or equivalently strong enough front glass.
NO
I have the streak (for sale) and the S.G.Note,
only the streak has the real Corning gorilla glass, the difference is evident:
you can knock your fingernail against the glass: TOC TOC vs TAC TAC (no tic-tic but neither toc-toc as real and powerfull gorilla glass )

Screen scratched!

So I've had my phone for a few days now, haven't received my case/screen protector yet..
I've noticed got 2 little scratches, isn't this gorilla glass?? I thought it was meant to be hard to scratch!

yes we all know that.. because Corning seems didnt update it (not sure) because the last device mentioned is the S2 and there are many new devices from Samsung and many others (has Gorilla) but not mentioned/updated..
you see, I am not trying to argue you guys... but really the fact Samsung never mentioned its Gorilla on the Note official Samsung page (neither they ever mentioned even for the S2) our only source of info is always Corning website and they didn't add many devices to the list since long already in the Market with Gorilla. such as the new Samsung 8.9 or the 7+ samething with other brands if i recall.

sorry if you interpreted my response as an insult, it wasnt meant like that.
but basically, from my experience with cars and computer parts... who cares what branding it has? who cares if its branded as gorilla glass or branded as hardened glass? if its still tough enough to be scratch resistant and still does the job, then does it really matter whether its branded or not?
my galaxy note screen has no scratches on it. i kept it in the same pocket as my keys as well until i got my flip cover a week ago. still no scratches. this was before my screen protectors arrived.
The scratches are tiny but clearly visible. Considering I haven't haven't abused it all and my old inspire 4g had no scratches and was abused I think this glass isn't as good and isn't gorilla at all.

GG is scratch RESISTANT. Not scratch PROOF. Stop getting your panties in a bunch. It got scratched because it came into contact with something hard enough to scratch it. Who's fault it that? There is a fundamental difference between 'scratch proof' and 'scratch immune'
As posted by few others
1. Gorilla Glass can get scratches
2. Corning's patent ran out on gorilla glass quite some time ago and just about anyone capable of making one can make one
3. Corning and Samsung has a joint venture together that specializes this under scp.samsung.com and may not be using "Gorilla Glass" label

i'm almost sure the 7.7 features gorilla, simply because the corning site always took it's time to update on new products. and i can't imagine that samsung wont use this feature on it's otherwise VERY sophisticated and well built 7.7...

and in the note forums had been quite similar discussions than this one!

Well, Gorilla Glass isn't nuke proof or anything. It's going to break, scratch, and shatter like any other glass. It just has a higher threshold. I think sometimes people think that since their device has Gorilla Glass then they can be a bit more carefree with it, and then are disappointed that *whoops*, smash!

The padlock's corner hits the screen near the earpiece, I'm using a screen guard and the impact bores through it! I immediately checked for damage, thank God theres none!

Just saying.
I had my hands full with shopping and a screaming baby a month or two ago. I put the tab down on the boot ledge of my car and once I'd finished putting away the shopping, forgetting where I'd put my tab, I closed the lid. It didn't close but I remembered tab, in a moment of horror, a split second before I gave it a slam.
The glass edge had been popped out a couple of mil and amazingly there was no damage. All was fine after pressing it back in.
I don't know if it was the glass or hard plastic of the anymode cover but regardless, the glass itself must be pretty tough.

Dunno what it is... but it's STRONG
My friend's dog attacked it , dropped it about 1m (3ft) onto concrete glass-down...and there was no damage to the screen or the internals (edges of the side/back plastic had slightly scuffed paint though).
I've dropped it on tile floors from about the same height or higher (I'm 189cm/6'2" and somewhat nearsighted) while standing up... still works.
I've dropped an E-cig (heavy bugger, and made of metal to boot) directly onto the screen, many times... not a scratch.
Whatever glass it is, it's even more durable than Sammy's Galaxy S1 (aka AT&T Samsung Captivate's) screen, which does show a grand total of 1 tiny scratch (only visible on black, several pixels long). Still no scratches despite my clumsy and at-times drunken lifestyle :good:
PS 3G/WIFI GT-P6800 Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, Made in Vietnam, Hong Kong model via grey market import through Las Vegas, Nevada retailer; UK English, running ICS 4.04 (from Hong Kong Samsung Kies version autoupdate... d/led over wifi in California) since 5.8.2012

I have been using the Galaxy S for two years, this phone has Gorilla Glass, but first version. And it has absolutely no scratches on the screen.
My phone had a bumper instead of a case or similar to cover it, so I can say the Gorilla Glass does a good work preventing scratches.

Do I have Gorilla Glass 2 on the front?

I have bought phone 3 months ago. IT felt on the street once - like a meter high from my hand. I got a break glass on the front in the corner. Everyhting is working - just a small crack. But the back is in one piece. That's is why I want to ask you - Nexus 4 owners - how to check if my phone have the Gorilla Glass 2 on the front?
I have checked the box, and quick start guide - no information about it. Also warranty does not have that information ?

Gorilla glass doesn't advertise shatter proof. Neither does gorilla glass 3 and 4 probably won't either. They advertise SCRATCH RESISTANCE. So if you drop your phone thinking it won't break because of gorilla glass, think again.

Please explain how regular glass is any better??
Get rid of your N4 if it sucks so bad.
I carry my keys and phone in the same pocket and yet to have any noticeable scratches that are viewable with the naked eye.
Anyone else saying it sucks, go purchase a regular phone without gorilla glass and see how long it'll last.
Obvious trolls have nothing better to do on the net then complain about everything.

Back isn't gorilla glass. And gorilla glass just promises a tough, scratch resistant glass, not an unbreakable/shatter-proof glass.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. No one is trolling .. my screen is littered with scratches. No one is arguing or making any kind of insinuations that the N4 sucks.. but that many people have not had "good' experiences with Gorilla Glass.
Take your shatty internet tough guy attitude else where ...

Coming from the guy telling everyone has an extreme "placebo effect contagion" over ART because according to you its nothing more than a switch on android.
Like I said trolling is easy to spot. Specially when the majority of the post are nothing but complaining.
I'm doing feeding you.

I'm a carpenter so my phone is exposed to dust and random debris in my pocket. I use a simple no name flipcover and I must say thus far its the most resisting phone I owned. Not a single scratch or dent.
To repeat it again. Every glass will break eventually but not every glass will scratch.

Haha. I really wasn't trying to troll on art.. I stand behind its an unfinished runtime environment that is not giving everyone the result that they think they're getting but that's for another time and a different discussion.. and also I have NOT gone around saying it either.. i posted in one thread.. my opinion on a topic.. it's not my fault you guys let such little things bother your little brains.
You guys just get so butt hurt when someone disagrees with your my phone is so amazing and has no fault ideals.
My screen is scratched all over. From literally pocket use I guess... I use a screen protector to hide them now cause its very annoying to look at. I never dropped it or anything like that..
I have a small crack around my speaker on the back also.. pressure I assume. ...
All I'm saying is Gorilla Glass isn't all that its cracked up to be..
