[SOLVED] Fast Web Installer not working on Droid 2 - Droid 2 General

I cannot get Fast Web Installer to work on my Droid 2. It worked fine on my Droid Eris until I rooted it and put a 2.2 ROM on it. Then I just recently upgraded to the Droid 2 and am having the same issue. When I am viewing an app on the Appbrain webpage and click on Install, instead of getting the permissions pop-up where I would just click OK and the app would be begin downloading to my phone, instead it just says "Added ______ " (see attached screenshot) and the app never downloads.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled both the Appbrain app and the Fast Web Installer, and have "enabled" Fast Web Installer several times. Nothing seems to help.
Any ideas?

Has NO ONE else had this problem?

What is Fast Web Installer? Never used it so I haven't had a problem. lol
But seriously what is it? is it in the Market?

I have the same problem now, I"m on ATT Captivate, when on Eclair 2.1 it worked great, I love the app.
Now I installed Froyo and when I choose install nothing happens, but when I cancel on web, a pop up comes up:
Application not found
The application was not found in the list of installed applications
So the installer never happens.

The Fast Web Installer is apparently tied to the ANDROID_ID of the phone. There's a bug affecting a bunch of phones, especially the Droid 2, that prevents the device from properly generating a unique ANDROID_ID. Some value unique to each device was not set, or something, and the ANDROID_ID is supposed to be a hash of that value.
Consequently, there are a ton of phones floating around with the ANDROID_ID set to the same value as (I think) an emulated Android device: 9774d56d682e549c.
Also, it seems that some custom ROMs are subject to the same bug, or have copied the same ANDROID_ID. So phones that used to have a unique value may have lost it.
A lot of developers tailored their apps to use the ANDROID_ID as a unique identifier, so this bug is screwing with a lot of people.
My Droid 2 had this ANDROID_ID from the time I bought it, and through several ROMs I put on. I edited a database and manually changed the ANDROID_ID to what I hope is a truly random value, and now Fast Web Installer works properly.
I don't know if I have set myself up for future conflicts by editing my ANDROID_ID, but so far everything is working.

Can you give some instructions for how to do that?

SUCCESS!!!
I got Fast Web Installer to work!! Here's what I did:
I had to be rooted and have BusyBox installed first
1. Downloaded & installed Android ID Changer: http://adaptiveeng.blogspot.com/
2. Changed my Android_ID to a random 16 character ID (Hex)
3. Re-installed AppBrain and Fast Web and BAM! It works!!

Sounds like a solid solution. You could add [SOLVED] to your thread title if you don't have anymore problems with it.

Angry Birds beta for Android

I read a couple of days back that the wildly popular game on iOS - Angry Birds has been released for android...however I'm not able to find the application on the market.
Could it be an android 1.6 limitation or a region restriction?
Also if someone has the .apk file for it...could you please upload it...i would be really grateful to you! Thanks !
you have a PM
I was just a little late also. I guess they pulled it pretty quick. I signed up for their distribution emails, so hopefully they will open it back up and let me in!

you can either keep launching it until it eventually works, or if you have a task killer kill all running apps then launch the game and it will boot instantly.

Yea, I have the same problem too but it seems to die of after a couple of days of playing the game lol. It force closes once in a while but it starts again if I relaunch it. You should report for bugs too cuz this is only the beta version
If you tap the screen while it's loading, the game loads up just fine.
It also runs incredibly smoothly, and for the moment, has better graphics than the iPhone version.
And look at that, it's not a 1.6 problem. Yay.
How come I can't find this game in the marketplace?

Never have any problem with angry bird on X10.
It just ran and start when every time i launched it.
However, I do have FC problem on my HTC Hero Froyo, and I have to continue tapping the screen to get the game work.
It's on the market for me...i just downloaded it then.
EDIT: after opening it, it's a different app.

Install Error...
Hi Team,
I downloaded the APK file thru Mediafile listing.
I am having problems installing this.
First, I downloaded the APK, uploaded to the phone via Bluetooth, then used Astro to browse to the APK file, and launched the application installer,
As with any application installer, it warns what specific android functions this app is going to access, I moved forward, keep clicking on install..and it keeps bringing me back to the same page, telling me about what specific android functions this app is going to access, I keep clicking on install, is not doing it!
Why?
My phone is rooted with a R2BA026 firmware & allowed unsigned installations (thru applications settings)
Any help?
Also, its confirmed to work on 1.6 as per: http://androidandme.com/2010/09/game...ndroid-market/
Also, wanted to know: I googled the mediashare file link, the official file name is: com.rovio.angrybirds_lite.apk (11.41M)
Now, what am I doing wrong?
There's no reason for an App not to work on Android 1.6 anyway, the Android SDK makes it really easy for a developer to develop a single apk for basically all versions of the OS starting from 1.6 by just setting one line in a XML file. (1.5 is different since it has too much limitations)
The only reason for an app to skip 1.6 would be OpenGL ES 2.0 (most app only use OGL ES 1.1 or use a fallback renderer) or the absolute need of multitouch (applications generally catch the error and fallback to singletouch events in that case tough.)
Really applications that don't work on Android 1.6 are badly written (*cough* Twitter) and even those using NDK shouldn't need android 2.x. (*cough* Mozilla)

i have the same problem with all the banking apps
i also had problems with another app just cant remember the name
i thinks its a universal problem with the software that is 1.8.3

Same issue here with BoA. There is a thread somewhere about all the banking apps messing up. Hope we get a fix soon cos' I use them a lot.

Damnit.. I guess this explains why my Chase app stopped working.. Good Work moto... 1.8.3 really did more harm than good... my fingerprint reader and wifi are kinda screwy now too..
BTW, BOA had a 10-12 our long web access meltdown the other day. Customers couldn't log in from phones OR computers for quite some hours, no explanation from BOA but I did see one mention of a DOS attack on the BOA system, so the problem might not be in your phones, or the app, at all.

Fix for the BoA issue
I found the following post on another forum and thought I'd share it.

I was able to fix the app by doing the following (seems the trust store got screwed up with the new release):
Grab all the certs from the bank of america cert chain (I used openssl, you could probably use something else):
openssl s_client -connect www.bankofamerica.com:443 -showcerts
Grab each of the trust certs (3 total) and put them in files ending in .crt
IE: cert1.crt, cert2.crt, cert3.crt (you could also create a pkcs12 out of 'em if you are inclined to do so).
This is likely the problem with other apps noted in this thread.
Place the files into internal storage download directory. Then go to Settings -> Location & Security -> Creential storage -> Install from internal phone storage.
Use: Certificate Manager and you should see your 3 available certs. Add them and then reboot the phone.
----
After the above procedure, I was able to log in using the BofA app.
Maybe same would work with other banking apps as well.

Did you read the rest of that thread?
It didn't work for anybody else as far as I saw when I read through a different thread with the same content yesterday, and someone had a post about the certs and why this didn't work.
Also, this was right below what you copied and pasted from there:
"this didnt work for me for some reason, but when i did a brute force approach of getting all verisign certs, I was all set.
I just tried this on my phone and got both Bank of America and American Express apps to work again.
I ended up exporting all Verisign and GT certificates in .crt format using my Firefox browser, copying them to my Dropbox account (emailing them should be fine too) and installing them one by one on the phone. You need to reboot your phone after installing the certificates...
You can also figure out which certificates you need by clicking on the padlock or company name in the browser's URL bar "

as long as I can download the .apk, its really not that big of a deal to me anyway. Just have to connect phone to pc, find the file, drag it to my computer and then install it with android injector. This works for amazon apps and any app I have download from here.

I THINK that he's talking about root not being that big of a deal as long as he can sideload...I'm pretty sure. Over a long time of being on forums, I have learned to read and understand the most incomprehensible of verbiage.
sorry, i was generalizing. basically if you can download the app, even if you cant install it from your phone, there is a simple method to get it installed when you get to your computer.
edit: yes, I was talking about how easy it is to sideload. just my opinion. easier to do than possibly lose mms options with this method to get the unknown sources checkbox.
just going to wait for the actual update. which better come soon. as it was supposed to be out before this thread even started.

The update was out before this thread started but only some (very few) people got it. So if someone can't wait for it, since it seems like no one else is going to get it, and they can afford to lose the mms setting (which could be reset manually), then they can do this method.

Odd Facebook Issue

So I was able to get DL17 working last night. Now I'm having an odd issue with FB. I'm attempting to update the factory FB, which is apparently around version 1.2. I attempted to update to the latest version (1.6.1) and it keeps crashing while loading. Everything downloads fine and says it successfully installs, but it keeps crashing.

I did that on my old Blackberry, as the FB app for it bit. But, I like the options some of the apps vs. the mobile site. The problem I'm finding between the 3 is inconsistencies of what you can do. I know I used one to tag friends. I know the regular FB app, you can't add check-in places (you can with mobile site or Friendcaster). Seems odd that the 3 would be different.

Just start typing the name of the place you want to add and when Facebook can't find it, it will say "add [check in place]"

Ah. the other directions I found online were different. They are set now, but at least I know for the future.

What is the adblocking method you're using ?

A quick poll to see what users of one prefer using ..
I wish I could still use ad blocking but I started to notice on a few web sites I frequent, the back button would not go back to the previous page and the current page would just reload. I noticed this on my GS3 and the One. Took me a while to figure out it was ad blocking that was interfering with the proper loading and back function of these web sites for some reason. I don't have any such problems on my desktop PC, presumably because the ad blocking usually works differently on a PC. On mobile phones, it's usually just a freaking huge host file that black holes known ad urls to 127.0.0.1 or equivalent.

Interesting, I had no idea the back button problem was caused by my ad blocker. I just thought the websites have really stupid developers. I wonder if they do this on purpose to punish users of ad blockers...
Still worth it to me. I haven't seen an online ad in years, besides the odd one that slips through

Tried all three (Adfree, Adaway and Mother of all Adblock). Found Adfree gives best zapping of ads, has the largest hostfile size (more ad & tracker sites blocked) and has the most personalised white/blacklist. Why am I on the HTC 1 thread? Researching to shift from the XZ to the HTC1 dual-sim or the Butterfly S.
Dead Cookies leave mo trails...
AdAway, for the web.
If I really like a app I buy the donate/pro version so I can support development.
Using a host file with rom but I also have that website problem on websites like Engadget. But I just press back multiple times... the real issue is that I can't access websites through the slick deals app because clicking them just takes to a 404.
Not sure if there's a fix for this but I'm thinking of getting rid of the adblock
