I am glad you got it working. How did you end up automating it?
Also I uploaded it to a mirror for you because some people had trouble getting it. You are free to use the links i give

Thank you, I'm on my laptop now (Captivate tethering ftw)
I worked with DaGentooBoy for the script, he worked it into a shell script for mac (They always get it easier XD), and he made a adb/push one for windows that utilizes sgux.exe.

I am not sure how to fix it on a PC, but I fixed it on a Mac. First of all download the Mac version of the script. Then extract it etc. now you need the android SDK and you need to edit the script. Add "cd ~path of tools dir. of sdk" it should work now

I don't understand how to install this Android SDK...
and how to change something using it...

If you're on Mac

Then download the zip file in the original post for your OS, and follow the instructions. Super easy

I downloaded this Android SDK for Mac and what's next? how to install it?

Those scripts should work because they have adb in them. I will look at it tomorrow. For the full guide (including new script with the un freeze code) the original guide can be found here

I am so angry that everybody says that it's so easy and only I can't complete this damn staff ><
how to run Generate_Code.sh using terminal?
tried typing sh Generate_Code.sh and so on buy it doesn't find this file
and how to run adb (shell?) and what is it?

I'll be updating the thread later with an easier mac solution.

adb is the debugging program from Google for Android. It allows us to run shell commands and many other things. The problem you are having is on the Windows side. For some reason it is looking to the \windows\ directory.
Try this
Hit Start->Run->cmd
click ok
type in
cd \path to extracted script\ (I usually copy and paste everything after c: in an explorer window)
hit enter
Generate_Code.bat
hit enter
let me know if that works.

The current mac method does NOT work. I have created a Mac version that does work, but I am awaiting approval to post it since it uses the source code from their version.
I would like to ask Bowsa2511 not to post my version yet because I am still smoothing the edges and I am a perfectionist. But it will be online tonight. I promise.

[HOW TO] Unlock your Captivate to work on all networks for free

This NEEDS to be stickied in here so everyone can use it.
I copied this from the i9000 forum.
Ok before we get started I need to make this REALLY clear. This did not work for my i9000 at first…. I cannot guarantee you will find your code…. If your device freezes (to many attempts) I am sorry but I cannot be held responsible.
Using ADB
Step 1. – Get the file
You need to have root
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/bml3 of=/sdcard/bml3.bak
mount USB storage and copy the file off the internal SD card
Step 2. – Find the code
Try this

It's a win32 executable. Run the program from command line with the blockdevice backup as parameter:
c:\sgux.exe bml3.bak
IT returns the unlock code fory your phone.
It's based on the tip posted on this thread by rhcp0112345.
It's works with european sgs.
Click to collapse
OR
Open the file in a HEX editor
Search for SSNV
At the end of this block of data there should be a string of numbers
(my unlock code started at 0x18005a)
The format will be numbers.unlockcode.numbers
Step 3. – Enter the code
As far as I know the *#0111*code# and #7465625*638*Code# codes don’t work so you MUST
Power down your phone
Put in a SIM card from another carrier
Power up your phone
When it boots up it will ask for the unlock code that you found above
Step 4. – Flash back (IF THE CODE DIDN'T WORK)
Flash back to an older firmware (I9000XXJF7 with 513.pit worked for me)
Now enter the unlock code you generated in Step 2.
PLEASE give credit to
rhcp0112345 for finding the file and giving me (and others) a place to start
rbnet.it and marcopon for the cool utility to extract it
galaxysguy for starting the other thread and confirming that I was looking at the right code

Remember after opening adb, type su enter
then
cat /efs/nv_data.bin >> /sdcard/nv_data.bin
mount your card, and transfer nv_data.bin along with sgux.exe to your c :\ drive
then open command prompt, and cd C:\ [ENTER]
C:\sgux.exe nv_data.bin [ENTER] and you should get your code.
Make sure you have su (superuser) working, you can tell if there's a #in the adb prompt
If there's no # in the adb prompt, then open adb, type su [ENTER] look at your phone, and wait for the Super User prompt to pop and enable/give permissions.

Thanks for this mail since I was under the impression that it requires a working SIM. Can't believe that my phone is unlocked!!
nice guide... but why are there so many different unlock guides lol
Honestly, I just found a guide that I thought had the best instructions and made a thread about it, hoping that it would be stickied, becasue this does not need to fade away off the first page. If it were stickied, it'd be even better. I contacted the person over this board, but they have yet to reply.
Extracting the unlock code on Ubuntu
Once you get the file off of your phone you can use hexdump and grep to find the unlock code easily:
cat bml3.bak | hexdump -C | grep -A 10 SSN
Ideally we could figure out how to do this directly on the phone using busybox, but I haven't figure that out yet.
Bad ass! worked like a charm on JH3.
i need help, i havent been able to get my phone unlocked.
I've tried all the methods (except Paying for a code) and none have worked !!!
I tried this one and it gave me the code but when i put in the TMO sim and entered "the code" it came back as no good.
Now, sgux.exe states looking for code and then it moves to the next command line (as if it was finished) but it doesnt find the code.
Help me plz !!
PS: I got the files out of the phone, both the bml3.bak and the nv_data.bin !

If you have froyo on your phone, only solution: (or samsung for repair)
http://perso.numericable.fr/helroz/Perso/repair_nv_data.zip
this method give informations in your bad nv_data.bin (imei, Model, product code) and insert this in a new nv_data.bin (sim unlocked).
After this new nv_data.bin (sim unlocked with your informations) is inserted in your phone, at restart, your phone create nv_data.bin.md5 and batch file create .nv_data.bak and .nv_data.bak.md5 and save your new efs folder.
Your phone is unlocked
It's possible to made this on froyo but not advised and not really tested (I repair codes at the same time but at the first start froyo change codes by FFFFFFFF)
Thanks to Mikiya on Frandroid to made "Reparation_nv_data.jar" at my demand
Thanks to vnamee for detailled instructions:
Just did this on my phone and it works great. The SGS unlock tool gave me a number that did not work no matter what firmware I used. Here are the steps to perform the unlock.
You will need root and busybox and something to edit the root, such as Root Explorer or ADB. You will need Java on your PC as well.
1) Copy the EFS folder with Root Explorer or ADB to back up
2) In /efs, delete:
nv_data.bin.md5
.nv_data.bak
.nv_data.bak.md5
nv_data.JPC (you may not have this)
nv_data.JPC.md5 (you may not have this)
.nv2.bak
.nv2.bak.md5
3) Reboot your phone and navigate to /efs to see if nv_data.bin.md5 is created. If it is, you are good to go. If you go there right after the phone boots, it may not have been created yet.
4) Put your phone in USB debug mode and connect via USB to computer.
5) Run step 2.bat (this will extract nv_data.bin to your computer)
6) Run reparation_nv_data.jar (I guess you just enter any 8 digit number in the boxes that will be your unlock code. I had entered '00000000' and SGS unlock couldn't find anything afterward, so I'm not sure if this number will be needed at any point in the future. This will edit the nv_data.bin).
7) Run Step 4.bat (this will upload the files to your phone. Make sure the phone is on and when you run it, make sure to keep pressing 'allow' so the program has root access to push the files to your root).
8) After this is done, you can answer 'n' if there were no errors and it should reboot your phone. Phone should be unlocked.
Phone must have nv_data in /efs folder, with all firmware, if at start you don't have nv_data, phone create it, but generic with no imei.

This method helped me unlock my phone when the sgs unlocker failed to extract the unlock code. It kept saying "unlock codek". The above method maybe a lilttle tricky for beginners, first back up your efs folder and try it.

[GUIDE][Update][Android CM Alpha 3] How to Install CM Alpha on Touchpad

NOTE: I don't have a TP anymore, but i am pretty sure the installation instructions will be the same moving forward. If you are new follow the full guide, if you are already on one of the CM versions, skip to step 7 and replace the file with the current file.
Note: If you are already on CM Alpha 1/2.1 skip to step 7, if not you can follow the instructions below to install CM Alpha 3 from WebOS.
Alright, here is a step by step instruction on how to install CM Alpha 3 on Touchpad. I did notice there is a video guide but a text step by step might be useful for some. I have this installed and for Alpha release this is fantastic.
Pretty straightforward installation, but as always you follow this guide and flash at your own risk. Main thread for the CM port is here. Read whats working and whats not working there. If you have any questions, post it there. but read the known issues first, don't post know issues. This is just a guide.
Required:
1) PC ( windows, mac or linux) with working Internet
2) HP Touchpad ( obviously) and the usb cable that came with it.
3) Good Reading skills ( I am serious).
4) Read this guide twice if you have to.
Step 0:
Get your pre flash jitters out and think twice. This will root your device and hence your warranty will be void after the flash. If you still want to flash, back up your current HP touchpad. figure out which way is your volume up button ( you will need for step 4) and proceed to step 1
Step 1:
Make sure you have atleast 2GB of free space in your touchpad. Download the following files from here
1)Moboot bootloader for multi boot
2)CM Alpha 3
3)Clockwork Mod Recovery
Once done, go to step 2 below;
Step 2:
1)Acme Installer from here
2) HP WebOS SDK for windows, mac or linux
3) Follow the links above to install the full SDK or just the Novacom driver which is all that is required. If you are not sure, install the full sdk.
on to step 3 now.
Step 3:
1) Connect Touchpad to PC with the usb cable that came with it and select Usb Drive option.
2) Once the Touchpad pops up on your screen, create a folder called cminstall and put the files you downloaded in Step 1 there.
3) Eject/Safely remove touchpad from the pc, remove the USB cable from pc and shutdown touchpad, then go to step 4.
Step 4:
1) Do you know which way is your volume up button? if you are not sure then you are not paying attention to this guide. To figure out which way, boot to webOS, figure it out and shutdown.
2)Hold the volume up button and press power button simultaneously. You should see a white USB symbol.
3)Connect the USB cable back to pc and if the Novacom drivers were properly installed, the driver will be automatically detected and installed.
Step 5:
Almost there, time to install now.
Extract the Acme Installer you downloaded in Step 2 to your desktop or wherever you want. Open up cmd ( in windows) or terminal ( in linux or mac). cd to the directory where you just extracted your Acme Installer.zip and go to step 6 for install.
Step 6:
Now type this in the command prompt after you have done cd
novacom boot mem:// < ACMEInstaller
NOTE: windows users might have to manually move the novacom.exe and/or AcmeInstaller into c:\programfiles\palm folder and run the above command from there.
and wait for it to install and boot into CyanogenMod. If your clockwork mod didn't get installed, go here for a fix.
Step 7:
Update from CM Alpha 1/ 2.1
1) Download CM Alpha 3 from here
2) Plug in your touchpad to PC, select copy usb files option
3) Transfer CM Alpha 3 zip file into the "sd card" of your touchpad when it pops up and disconnect.
4) Long press power button and select reboot, then recovery option.
5) Recommended but Optional ( I didn't): In CWM recovery, go to backup and storage, do a nandroid backup before updating, back to main cwm recovery, wipe cache and in advanced wipe dalvik cache.
6) In the CWM recovery meny, use your volume buttons and select install zip file from sd card, select zip file and select cm alpha 3 zip, then scroll down and say yes.
7) Reboot. To check if you are on alpha 3, go to settings, about tablet and mod version should be alpha3.
To install google market and google apps, go here
Have Fun. Thanks to the awesome CM team, we have android on touchpad.
NOTE: If you want to uninstall CM for whatever reason, download ACME uninstaller from here and run it like you did with ACME installer. This should work ( i haven't tried it though).
SOD( Sleep of Death): This is when touchpad goes to sleep and wouldn't wake up, don't panic. Doesn't happen often and I have never seen it since installing Alpha 2.1. Press and hold power and home button for 10 - 20 secs and your TP will reboot. One fix for this is to use no-frills cpu control or set cpu and set min cpu to 384Mhz.
sticky this!

did you install the sdk and the novacom driver like the linux link suggested? i have ubuntu 11.04 and the steps i described worked no problems. reinstall novacom drivers
i installed the driver but not the full sdk cuz i was told i did not need to. Can you maybe give me a break down of how things will look like on ubuntu strictly? Sorry if i seem like a noob or it is bothersome for you to have to reply. I greatly appreciate your help

For those wanting to just root, here's some help

This is for those on ICS only. If you have upgraded to jellybean, this will not work.
There have been other posts, and this one is nothing new, in fact it's a remake of DebugfsRoot so that author gets all credit. I just made a couple of tweaks to help those that might be having a fuss with it. First, this is assuming you are using a windows PC. I don't work on MACs. Next, make sure you have ADB working properly on your PC. To do this:
Go to your start menu and open a command prompt, usually by typing "cmd" in the run blank.
Type adb
If you don't get a whole heap of feedback of how to use adb returned to you, and instead get an error, you don't have it set right. If you're sure you installed the development kit and you have ADB on your PC, do the following:
FIND IT... and add it to your system path variable. adb.exe comes with the root extract, so if you don't have the kit installed, you can use that instead, but seriously, if you want to root and enjoy this hobby to its fullest, install the android kit. The most common location is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools" - but hey, get this, did you know the asus sync software available from their site also includes it? I just now found that out haha...
To add whichever absolute path to your system path variable, start menu > control panel > system > advanced system settings > environment variables button > In the system variables window, scroll down to path, click it, click EDIT > move your cursor to the very end and add ; again that's (semi-colon) - you'll see other entries there which show you, just follow the pattern. Remember, you only need to do this if your original attempt at typing adb didn't work. Save your settings, return to that command window, and try adb again, you should have better results this time.
Now then, download the root package here:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/33560221/DebugfsRoot_v1.8.exe
This is the original software with slight enhancements by me...those enhancements are all to the BAT file, and are as follows:
The EXE file is a self-extracting archive which will extract the contents to C:\tabletroot Please don't change this install location. You'll see why in a moment. the RootDebugfs.bat was edited as follows:
Within each push command, I preceeded the file name with C:\tabletroot so it knows exactly where to find what it needs. I found if you just pushed without it, it didn't like it too much.
Last, after each "wait-for-device" command, I added TIMEOUT 120 This forces the batch file to sleep for 2 minutes allowing plenty of time for your tablet to reboot. I found if you didn't do this, it would try to do the next commands way too soon causing failure. This should give enough time for you to get to your desktop before the next command is issued. If you find it's too long and you're ready to go, just press a key and that will kill the clock. If not long enough, edit the batch file with any text editor, and increase the timeout time.
All other files are what was originally found. I didn't update any of the apks or edit any other file than the main batch file. That's it. I used these exact files to root my tf300t on firmware version .30 with no issue of any kind. I hope this helps someone. If you run into trouble, not sure how much help I can be. I'm simply posting exactly what I did. I didn't author anything other than the edits mentioned above. Good luck.
Did the your_path thing and it didn't work.
Could you describe just a bit more which part you're having trouble with and what happened?

I added ;<your_path> at the end of the path and it did not change anything in the CMD window after imputing adb, when nothing happened before.
I'm sure it's something that I did not do that went wrong.
The your path thing was just a descriptor. You need to replace that with the location of your adb.exe file so it would look like ;c:\program files\ ... and so on. I gave a sample path of where mine is but it could vary between systems.

Well if my previous answer doesn't prove I've never rooted anything...
Where do you DL the adb file from?
Couple Choices

OK, I will assume you do not have the android development kit installed, so you still have a couple of choices here:
ADB comes with the archive I directed you to download, so if you download it and run the EXE, you'll find ADB inside the newly created folder I mentioned, so using this method, you would add... ;C:\tabletroot
ADB also comes with the ASUS sync software found on the ASUS website. If you have / will download and install this software, the ADB file will be located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ASUS Sync or it might be in C:\Program Files\ASUS\ASUS Sync just depends on the type of system you have. I have a 64-bit OS, so I have a Program Files and a Program Files (x86) folder (the x86 is for 32-bit programs) - in this situation, you would want to add ;C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ASUS Sync or ;C:\Program Files\ASUS\ASUS Sync
Remember if you go with option one, download the archive I provided and run it before you add / test to your path variable, because that's what puts ADB in place. Once you have that all done, just go run the BAT file - after you connect your tablet and can see it on your PC as a media device that is
Clarification
So using this method do we need the blob files or was that just for downgrading, and since we don't need to downgrade using this method, everything that we need is in that self extracting exe file? I'm not interested to unlock bootloader -for now-...just want a few tweaks and to install a few root apps
Sorry, I only have experience rooting a couple HTC devices and they were both 1 touch and rooted.
I hear you, and they are legit questions. This is for rooting only. This procedure doesn't unlock your bootloader, which is why i used it. All you need is in the archive.

Another question, do you have to put the tablet into any special mode in order for the batch file to work? If I remember correctly, the phones just had to be on, plugged in via usb (duh) and the batch files did the rest. The batch file has the 120 second pause, but it seems like it does the first part with -
1. waiting for device to be detected
2. daemon not started
3. daemon started successfully
then it just sits there, and its been longer than 2 minutes...what am I missing?
Only mode i know of is to put it in media mode mentioned above. Also I've read to turn off asus sync found in the sync section of settings.

Either unknown sources, or USB debugging might need to be on.
Ah yes forgot those. I'd do both thankya.

FYI the batch file does not work with windows xp, I searched and seems timeout is not supported. Sucks having an old OS..
I ran the commands manually and the root worked, so thanks anyway!

[TOOL]Mass.APKs.Installer[WINDOWS]

Hi, as the name says, it's a tool to install one or many apks by one click
Please check you have your adb drivers correctly installed for your device and your device correctly connected to usb and booted to android before run the script
Extract the folder in C:/ or any root drive and copy your apks in /apk, then double click on !RUN.bat
If you extract it in a route with space in the name you will get a happy error
Please if you like my work rate this post and say thanks, you can also comment
UPDATE:
V06022013 smarter, now check drivers
