X2 and PBAP (Phonebook Access Protocol) - XPERIA X2 General

Anyone can confirm that the supposedly present PBAP protocol is working ?
Altough my X2 is working generally better than expected, the my Alpine Car stereo is not able to show the phone's contacts.
That Car stereo was able to show the contacts with almost any phone I tried in the last couple of years.
Notably the samsung i780, the Xperia X1, the imate 8502 (which is a Mobinnova product), all the sonyericsson featurephones (k800, w995, G705, etc...).
So, is that protocol truly present (as stated on the bt cpl), and there is some compatibility issue, or is simply missing ?
Can you share your experience ?

I have no problems with the RBAP protocol on my Parrot MKi9000.
Maybe there's a problem with you Stereo.
Cheers.

Thanks for the info.
Maybe wm 6.5.x has changed something on the protocol so the radio won't recognize it.
I'll try to flash the radio with the latest firmware to see if the problem is solved.
I haven't upgraded the FW, since it worked W/O a single problem, with any device I tried (excluding the N900 that was released w/o PBAP support).

Ok, updated the car stereo's firmware (not so easy task) to the latest revision, the caller ID is still unsent, and the phonebook unavailable from the radio's display.
The compatibility list of this FW is huge
http://italy.alpine-europe.com/file...ion3.60/CC_CDE_103BT_CDE_113BT_ver3_60_IT.pdf
So I'm still convinced that something is wrong on the X2 itself or on the windows version installed.

I have the same problem, my car can access the phone book on other phones, but not on the X2.
Anyone know what to do?

I have the X2 and a JVC KD-NX5000 car stereo (outboard/integrated BT attachment). The X1 worked fairly flawlessly over BT (with gtrab's custom firmware).
Although I have not figured-out how to get MS Voice Cmd on the X2 to initiate calls from the JVC, the following software cured the Phonebook problem:
http://www.jetwaremobile.com/
They offer a free 30-day demo, and it's only $15 for the registered version. There's a command on the menu where (once you are paired with your BT radio), you 'force-feed' the contacts over to the radio. Worked like a charm for me. And, it's actually a bit preferable to the 'phone handles it' method. On the X1, it took the phonebook on its own, but it would update only under unknown/unexpected circumstances. With JetMobile, I believe you can re-send/overlay the contacts whenever you'd like.
(Note: This is using X2 and the May MR2 firmware release with the Saturn theme.)

Bluetooth connection with BMW 520i

I have I-mate , and updated to ver 1.52 , i try to connect it with the BMW car bluetooth , they can see each other but the car can not bound the i-mate , any body try this , or is there a patch tor that.
any help
I'd like to...if anyone has a BMW 520i to donate i'll be willing to have a go!!
Sorry i couldn't be more helpful....i just couldn't resist.
Yes There is a solution Ali!!
First backup your device
Goto www.clubimate.com
Register Your device
Then you would head to the support section
And download the latest ROM upgrade which is approximately 40 MB
Upgrade your device since the new ROM is said to have a new fix for bluetooth.
And if this works ........ Please Donate !! (Just kidding !!)
if i am not mistaken, the bmw carkit is the same as the parrot ck3000...if so you have a problem (for the moment anyway)
the parrot ck3000 works with the handsfree profile of a bluetooth phone, and the xda2,qtek2020,i-mate and all the other names for our machine only works the headset-profile....it is no use of trying to upgrade the carkit, mine has the latest software, and still does not work...the upgrade has to come from your pda, that has to support the handsfree profile...as i heard, there should be one comming out in the first few months...let's hope...
thanks for the help
i update the i-mate before from the clubimate but as you said no help at all it is the same problem
if problem solved will donate sample bmw logo from the company
To ali:
Simply: NO WAY. Nor will BMW support you in any way: You will not get (in written) even the list of supported phones. They just claim it's lack of Bluetooth standardization (Wich is not completly false...).
BTW, I've found the hard way that BMW cars only support Handsfree profile (No headset), BUT, not on every phone model, and not all features....
If you are interested:
1- Ericsson and Sony-Ericsson T68 models: They work on the handsfree part of the Bonding, but you will not get your phone contact list automatically passed onto the car kit phone system. You may pass contacts one at a time (tedious and time consumming).
2- SE P800: My biggest disappointement, they do not even pair reliably, no contact list at all, connection breaks with no apparent reason.
3- Siemens S-55: The BMW preferred one (Both Germans, I guess....), to no avail. Same behaviour as SE T68, and although the contact list is supposed to be passed automatically it doesn't. When tried manually, it stops at about 6 or 7 contacts and the phone hangs.
4- XDAII: The BT part is SO POORLY implemented, it should have been even removed from the reviews on the forums.

Anyone got Sim Access Profile working?

Hi
I wondered if anyone had successfully used the Sim Access Profile capabilkity of the of TyTn to connect with a Bluetooth car kit. I'm trying to get the connection going with a Merc. car kit, but I can't get them to pair.
Thx
Hi petes, I have an slk 55 amg with command and bluetooth. The bluetooth in the command system does not work for pairing with a phone. Even though it says it has bluetooth. To use bluetooth you need an extra module.
Hope this helps...

Hi Dale
Thanks. I actually already have the module - the european version of the module is different to the US one in that it uses Sim Access Profile, rather than just acting as a headset. The TyTn says is supports SAP, but I just can't make it work - wondering if anyone's actually got SAP working.
pete S
Hi Petes,
I also have an Mercedes-Benz with the european bluetooth module. But I have a Qtek 9100 updated to AKU2 (Which is supposed to support SAP), but no luck at all. Actually the module can not even identify my phone and display it at the search screen of the comand screen. I tried also with a NOKIA 6230i (SAP Compatible phone) which actually I was able to see at the search list of the comand screen which means that the module is working with SAP compatible phones. What I will do next, is to try again with the new firmware I installed to my 9100 (T-Mobiles 2.21 Version) which has a SAP application for bluetooth (Something like SAP Server).
I can not do it yet because I am abroad and I will be back again 1st of September. I will let you know the results ASAP.
If you have any news from your site with TyTn please let me know because I was intending to change my 9100 to TyTn just for the SAP functionality.
Hi Barsam
The reason you can't find the 9100 when you search with the BT module is that it only looks for devices which identify themselves as Phones. The TyTn (and no doubt the 9100) identify themselves as Pocket PCs and so the (stupid!) Mercedes kit ignores them. The good news is that you can hack the registry to tell the Bluetooth stack that it's a phone. The bad news is that you can't pair with it. Getting it into the search screen doesn't mean it supports SAP - I could see my old T68 just when I was testing. Could you actually pair with the 6230i - i.e. when you see it in the list select Call?
When you're back, PM me and I'll send you the hack.
To tell you the truth I didn't try to pair the 6230i, but it's one of the phones that mercedes have tested on the bluetooth module. If I don't manage to do it with the 9100 I may get a 6230i. At least I can use the one that my brother has to test it and even copy my contacts to comand. Have you tried the hack with the TyTn? Can you tell me what is the the registry set to do that?
Where did you find out that the bluetooth module ignores enything elese than phones?
Make the following registry change
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\SYS]
"COD"=dword:52020C
On your own head etc.. Keep a copy of the current value of course. Then do a soft reset. You'll then see it as a phone. I've tried this, and can now see the phone, but can't pair. I've had a mail back from HTC that they're aware of some problem with the SAP and are working on it.
I wish a nice car kit would be released in the USA that supports SAP/850 & 1900/ external aerial...
hello,
i'm trying to get my TyTN working with my Meceder Command too... does anyone tried the English ROM-Update? Someone wrote that he can use it's TyTN with his Audi after updating the ROM. And tha Audi-MMI-System works also with SAP... perhpas after the ROM-Update it works with Mecedes Command System too...
I haven't tried it yet - I've been waiting for the TyTn update to come along, but nothing from HTC yet. If I don't get anything soon, I'll switch over to the iMate ROM and report back.
I have used a nokia 6233 6280 onmy E55 2005 with B/t Module
The mercedes module in conjuntion with the command system is problimatic, hoever I think I have another peice of the puzzle. With both the above phones they only worked using Vodaphone 3g cards Three 3g cards paired using SAP however could not get recieption....Mercedes say (there guessing) its the way the sim card is configured.....
Mercedes BT
I have a TYTN on order and Im desperate to find a solution to the issue before it arrives.....
As a follow on to my last post ...basically what I THINK found out was if the sim card was configured to work only on a 3G phone..(some networks do this so that they cannot be put in a 2.5g phone and constantly roam on).....then it would pair with the Bluetooth module in Mercedes however never get recieption.
I tried this on several phones including 6233 6280 N80 E61.....just to name a few....ALL PAIRED....however If I put a Vodaofone 3g Card in then IT worked .....IF i put a Three 3G card in it didnt.....BUMMER CAUSE I'm with THREE.....
I hope this helps in some way and Im more than happy to be corrected however these are my first hand expeirnces....I WANT TO USED THE TYTN in my MErc so Im keen to help in amy way....I have unlimited access to phones...so if anyone has any other suggestions Im happy to give it a go....
Mark
At the moment, you'll find that by default the merc kit won't even see the Tytn (it's a pocket pc, not a phone as far as Bluetooth is concerned). You can hack the registry to change this, but then the phone will be seen, but pairing will fail. Hopefully, the forthcoming firmware update will fix this - I've had mail back from HTC support to suggest they know there are problems with the SAP support.
Mercedes BT
Is there anyone who had paired Nokia phones with Mercedes BT(euro spec) successfully? I had tried for several Nokia phones (6230i/6270/6280) to pair with BT ,all failed. I can just find the 16-digit PIN on Comand, no phone appears on Comand. Phone & Comand can't find each other. Do I have to set other setting except the "bluetooth setting" for mobile phone? Even I try to "search for audio enhancements" and 'find no devices' at all .
Thanks Petes,
Did they give any idea on time frames?...Did you have any thoughts about my experience with the different sim cards....
Mark
I am considering buying the HTC TyTN and the Merc Bluetooth module so I am very keen to know if anyone can get this working.
Thanks,
Ady
Nope - no news on timescales I'm afraid - just waiting for the firmware update from HTC. I'm reluctant to try the iMate firmware at the moment - until there's an HTC to go back to in case something goes awry. Has anyone had a chance to try SAP with either of the newer firmwares (iMate or Dopod) - might give us a good clue if the HTC one's going to work.
I've connected my 6230i easily enough, just remember to allow "auto connect without confirmation" on the phone after entering the 16 digit code
I have tried my HW6915 pocket pc but like the other PPC's it is not recognised
A reply I got from HTC support on 21/09/2006 asking about the Merc SAP problem was:
At present the TyTN is only compatable with a limited number of kits. A ROM update will be released shortly to update this.

So fingers crossed that it will be soon and solve the problem.
I asked them the same thing a while ago and just checked back in on availability. Just got ...
"At present the HTC ROM for the TyTN is being written and tested and we expect it to be released in the very near future."
So, patience is a virtue I hear....

Touch hd & Kenwood dnx 7200

hi all. just curious to know if anyone else has paired their hd with the above head unit? My previous vario3 had no problem connecting and neither does my old nokia 6630, but for some reason the hd just won't pair. Any and all advice appreciated. incidentally I've written all this on my newest toy, cool eh?
* Bump. Sorry, but i'd really like to get to the bottom of this!
It's okay, don't worry, I've done it now.

I guess you have the DNX7200 and KCA-BT200? Did you install the latest firmware on your DNX7200 device and on the KCA-BT200? (on the kenwood website of your country)
I've got the KVT-729DVD + KCA-BT200 and it works great.
Mine automatically pairs with my jvc kdbt22, turn the radio on and it it automatically pairs for both headset and wireless music and will automatically stream music if I select Bluetooth on the radio via the Touchflow player.

I am wondering what is different in my setup compared to yours. My HD pairs with my KVT-522DVD + KCA-BT200 alright. The phone book get loaded and I can browse contacts, but NOTHING happens when when I push the call button or pick up button on the 522DVD screen.... both units are FW updated to the latest versions.
Regards, Steffen
I used to use mine with my Pioneer FH-P80BT - worked perfectly fine
The only time I had the problem you mentioned (about receiving calls) was when I disabled the hardware buttons on my device using S2U2 or something similar (apparantly it affects the use of handsfree kits aswell!) - hope this helps...
Thanks zoomee, I think is has to do with the KCA-BT200 (the seperate BT box attached to the multimedia unit) and the capabilities of its FW. The Touch HD is not in the list of "approved" cellphones with tha latest FW, but the Touch Pro is and I would expect it to use the same protocol - maybe a bit optimistic
I know this is an older post but...
I was curious if any of you Kenwood users that have the option to SMS from your deck can use this feature with any HTC/windows mobile phone. My phone pairs with my H/U just fine (KVT-514) and does everything aside from SMS. The feature is grayed out. It's not like I will ever use it, but I would still like to make it work if I can.
SMS is grayed out on my 522DVD as well. I think you/we will have to wait until Kenwood release new updated FW with newer phones for the BT200 unit.
BR Steffen
My DNX-5260BT won't even download the phonebook! It connects but only allows dialled calls...gutted.

Any of you have a some suggestion?

Phonebook via Bluetooth

Apologies if this has been asked before, i've tried searching and now found a question that matches this, similar but not exact.
I have a Touch and now a Touch HD.
My Touch would connect to the cars bluetooth (Renault Laguna) and happily send over my phonebook so I could browse through it using the controls in the car.
My Touch HD connects ok, but doesn't send the phonebook (contact list always reports as empty). I've checked the Remote SIM Access box in case that makes a difference and ensured i'd copied over my contacts to the SIM first. I've even unpaired and repaired the phone, still 'empty'
I've tried using Jetware to get around this, which provides me with a "Windows encountered a problem with services.exe" which isn't very inspiring - but ultimately surely I shouldn't need to use a piece of software to 'add' a feature that existed on my older phone? Needless to say after all of this is done
Am I missing something? Any help anyone can provide me with would be appreciated.
My ROM version reports itself as 1.56.405.1 (43972) WWE, Protocol is 52.62.25.34U and radio is 1.13.25.24 if that offers any help?
Thanx in advance
I have to use Jetware BT to connect to my Alpine unit from http://www.jetwaremobile.com/
Does mean I can select the type of contacts i want to sync as well
Sorry, maybe I didn't make it clear.
Jetwaremobile doesn't appear to work properly on my Touch HD - it causes Windows Mobiles to report services.exe as needing to be closed. Performing a Soft-Reset makes no difference either.
I've emailed HTC about it but i'm not holding my breath on a response, its seems ridiculous that it did work on the old phone and now doesn't work on the newer model
The annoying thing is that I really really like the phone, but the inability to work with my cars built in BT 'headset' is something that makes me consider sending it back.

[Q] Bluetooth SAP/rSAP on Windows Phone 7

Can anyone tell me if there is a technical reason Bluetooth SAP/rSAP cannot be delivered on the Windows Phone 7 platform, or are the just being lazy about delivering it??
So... no reply cause nobody knows or no reply cause I'm being a n00b and this is answered elsewhere? Or something worse?
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=rsap+windows+phone+7
Just follow the first link "Frage zu SAP..." (german)
So far only these BT profiles are implemented:
PBAP — Phone Book Access Profile
A2DP — Advanced Audio Distribution Profile
HSP — Headset Profile
HFP — Hands-Free Profile
AVRCP — A/V Remote Control Profile
Anything else would be speculation, because Mango BT updates known so far:

Thanks - just saw that qualified listing and was a little disappointed. I checked the one for Apple iOS (listed as software version 4.1 and 4.2) and it also doesn't mention SAP or rSAP, but I know it does support those profiles, so I'm wondering whether I am just reading it wrong.
The differences are that iOS has:
RFCOMM
Bluetooth Network Encapsulation Protocol
Personal Area Networking Profile
HID
Interop Test Spec
Which one of these is linked to SAP/rSAP?
How do you "know" that iPhone supports rSAP? It does not, not even 4.3:
http://iamtim.de/2011/05/das-iphone-und-das-sim-access-profil-sap-oder-rsap/
None of these profiles you listed is rSAP (or SAP, SIM), as written here:

Well I suppose to be clear I don't "know", I just "think". The reason I "think" is because it communicates with my car, that says it "requires" SIM Access Profile, whereas my phone REFUSES to communicate with my car.
Additional detail: the car actually supports 2 bluetooth "modes": Headphone mode and SIM Access mode. If I have the car initiate the bluetooth connection it will use the remote SIM mode, and if the phone initiates the connection it will use the "headphones" mode.
A Nokia N97 works in both directions. As does the iPhone 3 and 4. My Samsung Omnia 7 won't do either.
Maybe Mango will be a solution, because it updates the Headset and Hands-free profiles.
"New is Hand-Free Profile 1.5, which should mean better support for Bluetooth car kits. "
Also there comes PBA (Phonebook Access profile), which is basically the same as SAP, but it uses the radio of the phone, instead the radio inbuilt to the car kit.
PBA and your interpretation of it being very similar to SAP sounds quite interesting yet it will most likely not be recognized by SAP-only car-kits like the older VW premium handsfree-boxes. I for instance refrain from switching to any other OS than windows Mobile simply because i need my phone working with the car kit and i am not going to buy a new car because my phone doesnt support the current.
Well, anyhow. I was going to say, that if the PBA doesn't support some kinda fake-SAp mode (pretend to be sap or so) it will most likely not help anyone with sap-only car kits. not matter how much it is similar to sap.
sorry to say this.

While i have both versions of Windows OS and yes the 6.x suported rSAP, the new WP7 does not. If you want a new phone that supports rSAP then Android fills the bill. Microsoft really dropped the ball by not supporting rSAP. Like you, have a VW-based phone system and without rSAP support the current handsfree phone protocols in WP7 is basically worthless.
[Update]
Just updated my phone to Mango, and annoyingly neither the headphone mode or reomte SIM modes work. This is a deal-breaker for me.
While I was quite enjoying the phone I am now going to switch to a Galaxy SII which works reliably in both directions, and connects properly to my WiFi as well. A real shame, but I can't imagine another WP update will be coming too soon and I don't have any patience left.

Since update my Omnia 7 to Mango, I get a lot of "BT connection error" on my display car.
all working here.
car radio is a Kenwood.
Finally now the phone transmits the name of the song playing to the headunit! like windows mobile.
Voice comands thru the Headunit work amazing too.The other day i received an sms while driving, voice comand told me that there was a new sms from Ken,then it ask me if i wanted it read out loud! I said yes and it did, at the end it ask me if i want it to reply to.
Also this is the only phone that actually auto connects to the car stereo, all my android devices need to be reconnected manually.
Funny thing all of this was set up by just pairing the device with the headunit.
Well my "head unit" is integrated into the dash - it's a Porsche touch screen system called PCM (which I think, lamely, stands for Porsche Control Module). I have anecdotal evidence that other WP7 models will connect which makes me think it may actually be the Samsung Omnia 7 itself and not WP7 per se.
What sux is that my Samsung Galaxy S2 works perfectly and my wife's iPhone4 works perfectly. So it isn't the car.
...I really haven't got the patience to wait for the Win8 update and keep using headphones for the next year!
some news here?
