Cyanogen in Vibrants future? - Vibrant General

Cyanogen 6.1?
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/home/cyanogenmod-6-0-status-update

Wow that quadrant score looks AMAZING.

He admitted he hacked/screwed the quadrant score to make it retardedly good.
Yeah, I really hoped it would be faster, but I think Wes Garner is surfing through till the 2.2 Update is live this next month then theyll throw in a new kernel and tweak it and call it CM.
I think the ETA is 1.5 months on a CM6 Rom for Vibrant, hope Im wrong, but thats my theory.

Uhm. you know CM is always compiled based off AOSP right? CM for Vibrant wouldn't be compiled based off Samsung's TouchWiz. And according to JAC
# CM6-ALPHA compiled for vibrant. going to make OTA package and test in the morning. about 22 hours ago via web

And where did you see this that he "hacked the quadrant score to make it look good." I don't get why anybody would do that, especially Cyanogen.

Oh I see. A lot of the CM6 for vibrant stuff are on Github so I don't know about him waiting for Samsung to push 2.2

here it comes
I have been trying to be patient, but with Google's new voice actions only working with froyo I really can't wait to get our CM6 on to see how it works. Here's hoping its sooner rather than later.

The lag is because of crappy hardware (slow flash) and crappy proprietary filesystem (samsung's rfs). Neither of these things are likely to change in CM..

No problems either.. the method for applying it isn't even difficult, try it yourself and you'll be impressed. And im not your "bro."

Work on the vibrant will pick up, Wes was working hard with Cyanogen on the final things to get the Slide CM6 build operational. Now its pretty much complete he can put some time on the Vibrant build.
Eugene & Barak's work on the AOSP 2.1 is coming along nicely as well, once its complete I assume (I am no dev) 2.2 AOSP will be pretty easy to build (once everything works in 2.1).

The difference chances are would be minor...there is no reason why not to support it...
Reason my guess it will be minor is it would be too much hassle for samsung to create separate firmware just for 1 phone one 1 carrier when they are distributing the phone to so many companies...so chances are it will be 99% the same..

I don't think not having Cyanogen is a dealbreaker.
Cyanogen was what made me love my Nexus, but it doesn't make a phone unlove-able.
As long as there is a good recovery image, optimized kernals, and theme support in the community, I'd be happy.
Then again, if he just made CM6 for the Epic, it would make things alot better.

I don't want to have to rely on Samsung for software. I've heard Touchwiz is buggy and slow and Samsung has a bad reputation for pushing out updates. The hardware on the other hand looks absolutely phenomenal and with CM6 loaded on it, it would leave other phones in the dust.

Touchwiz is blazing fast for my on my moment.

Does Froyo fix lag issues?

So, those early Froyo adopters: Does the Froyo update for Vibrant fix the lag issues? I ask because I have the choice of the MT4G, which is incredibly lag-free, and if Froyo doesn't fix the lag issues, I may just jump ship.
Yes, I know there are many "lag fixes" out there; but lag fixes don't make the phone completely lag free like it should be.
No version of android can fix this lag. It has nothing to do with android...

I never said it had to do with Android. I figured Samsung may have made optimizations/fixes in the Froyo update; I guess not.

My bad -- a laggy leak is very encouraging .
I have been using Eugene's macnut r10 for a little while now without any problems or lag. It works very well.
Wow I can't believe how much people are putting down this phone and the devs who work on it.
First of all I believe froyo does help and even erases the lag on the vibrant I'm running obsidian and its totally lag free with no lag fix in it.
I was also running the froyo build that eugene posted (stock froyo) and that 2 was lag free.
Even though we don't have official froyo yet we will and this phone is way better than a lot of other phone on the market right now and I believe the best t mobile phone..
N yes I've played around with the mt4g its cool but not for certain people. Its too heavy and bulky for me. Not as sleek and stylish as the vibrant.

Because the MT4G is a superior phone in almost every possible way.
Obsidian v2 and Onyx from TW are definitely lag free. Can honestly say feel better than stock with a lag fix. RFS or not, definitely no lag. Just flash a custom Rom and your set.

There is lag and lots of it on the tw froyo roms. Bionix fusion 1.2 eclair is still the better choice for me.
onyx and obsidian V2.2 are lag free, after you remove the bloatware.
onyx and obsidian V3 are smoother than fusion 1.2.

I'm kind of on the go right now but just saw that they're playing with Touchwiz 2.2.1 and theyre saying samsung altered the kernel, and although still rfs, it's flying! don't know how or where whatever they installed came from but just read that.

Like I said, I'm repeating the little I read and not adding any rumors too it. They are both saying 3-4x faster, fixing the IO problem before and showing 1255 quadrant bone stock, just rooted. Also thought I saw a mention of a POSSIBLE upload tonight.
I thought I remember reading that 2.2.1 ditches RFS for something else.
I'm Pretty certain their talking about android 2.2.1.
Sounds like changes to I/o for faster Vibrant's too.
Theyre saying touchwiz 2.2.1 which yeah it's just android 2.2.1 and just the corresponding touchwiz that skins it. And no, still RFS, they must be pretty firm on that, but they have optimized it, like I said 3-4x faster theyre saying it feels like. I'd like to think these guys have tried enough ROMs on their vibrants to know what 3-4x faster feels like, so I'm pretty confident this is great news.

so are leaks like this (or previous 2.2 leaks also) leaked from samsung or tmobile? I know we have all been blaming samsung for the delay in releasing 2.2 to us, so im wondering if samsung has released it to tmobile?

Actually this is NOT what eugene and barak are tweeting about. They are tweeting about JL4 for the Vibrant. As to where they got this leak, well eugene has been able to get hold of leaks before so this isn't really a surprise.
As to the charges of hoarding or teasing, I don't recall eugene or barak ever owing me anything or anyone holding a gun to my head to follow their tweets.

Of course they don't owe use anything. But that's like someone discovering new firmware and choosing to talk about it rather than let everyone have a go at it. Wait, that's exactly what it is. No one else seems to have a problem with posting any new leaked firmware as soon as they discover them so why is this different?. The sooner it is posted, the sooner other devs can begin developing. That's the whole point of a community. Even if it is buggy I'm sure other devs are willing to sort it out for their releases.

They already released their source.. what has been done with that? Just because someone has something others don't,releasing it to the community guarantee's nothing. Eugene and Barak do plenty for this community, even when they are being harassed about it which is not cool.

So.....Time to put Gingerbread rumors to rest?

Froyo source is out. The last ROM to leak out was KB1, and that was almost 3 weeks ago....and it came out not long after the official Froyo KA6. Forgive me for starting this discussion (or argument, depending on how this develops), but I'm thinking that the lack of any recent ROMs in conjunction with the release of KA6 Froyo source and absolute silence by Samsung on Gingerbread for Galaxy S pretty much means there is no way official Gingerbread is coming to Vibrant. I'm just saying. Not knocking Samsung (for this, anyway, no need to rehash everything Samsung SHOULD be knocked for), because they never promised Gingerbread. I'm guessing no more official Vibrant firmware development whatsoever is taking place.
I think (and this is just my opinion) we shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves worrying about gingerbread. Especially when we have some epic ROMs to look forward to now that the froyo source is out.
I am waiting for the CM7 or teamwhiskey to port 2.3 to vibrant
If that's true, then wouldn't that mean that vibrant 4G would also not get gingerbread? Not 1 update.... at all?
Keep it in your pants buddy.
The reason there haven't been any leaks is because Samsung changed the ports on their FUS server. Haven't figured out which one it is yet.

Gingerbread is optimized for the Hummingbird while Froyo is optimized for the Snapdragon. It should give better performance. I finally had a chance to play with a NS for an extended time the other day and it is lightning fast bone stock. There are also some new api's that no one has begun to utilize...yet. It's like Eclair was - nothing special except for the processor boost. Icecream or whatever you want to call the next release is probably going to be a major upgrade with hardware acceleration and a ui overhaul.
