[Q] Touchwiz petition? - Epic 4G General

Anyone think there would be a point in making a petition and sending it to Uncle Sammy, so that maybe in the future touchwiz would be an OPTION rather than mandatory?
I kinda think that samsung won't really listen but I'd be willing to give it a try.
Personally I'm going to be using LauncherPro on my Epic, but it would be nice to just shut off the touchwiz UI without rooting and flashing something new.

Unlikely..their goal is to try to improve TouchWiz till the point people like it..these kind of things heps sets manufacturers apart to the average consumer...overall though its not like TouchWiz 3.0 is bad..if anything most people hate it because either they are used to Sense, think it looks like an iphone, or used a previous TouchWiz and didn't like it...if you set this aside its pretty compatible to Sense, some even like it better...
But again..unlikely..

I don't see any problem with Touchwiz, I think it looks awesome, and if someone has a problem with the performance at all, they can just get a different phone. Touchwiz 3.0 has a ton of features that are just great to have, anyway, couldn't you just run a rom if you don't like it?

I doubt..that would undermine what Android is...remember Android isn't only used in cellphones...its used in car systems and other stuff..Google can't tell vendors to stop loading custom UIs...it would be silly...

You can remove touch wiz with root.

You can also just install another launcher and set it as default. LauncherPro, ADW, aHome... etc.

They didn't say they plan to stop/ban custom UI's.
They said they plan to make custom UI's unnecessary.

I don't think they have to get rid of touchwiz.. just make it optional. Rooting is pretty simple and i'll probably do it, but at the same time, why dont they give the user a choice? Like I said, i'll be using LauncherPro on mine, but I think the gesture would be nice on Sammy's part.

That's because Samsung uses TouchWiz, HTC uses Sense, Motorola uses Blur... it's their version. What you're asking is Honda to sell you a Civic but give you the option to use a Corolla engine... it can be done, but it must be swapped (rooted)

In my opinion TouchWiz > Sense and MotoBlur it's not that bad and honestly if you really don't like it just root the phone and install a custom ROM why petition over something so cosmetic you can petition for a GPS fix if you want to do something productive.

+1 ... except im Sense>TouchWiz/Blur

Stock AndroidUI > TouchWiz/Sense/Blur
Moto is apparently dropping blur though. If only they would drop that stupid damn bootloader now.

Got proof? Because I don't think that's going to happen.
Gingerbread will improve on Android's basic UI. The way buttons\menus look. The status bar. Etc. You bet your ass manufacturers are still going to load on their custom UIs. HTC has already said that they will include sense when they update their phones to Android 3.0.
I'm going to have to agree with everyone else. If you don't like TW3, install Launcherpro or ADW. Wait for a custom rom which gets rid of TW3 (like senseless roms for EVO). It's only a matter of time before the Cyanogen team puts out a 100% AOSP rom for it anyway. But for those who don't liek rooting... Launcherpro.

The proof is in the videos google made when they were showing off Android 2.2... they said it themselves in the video, I'd search for it but the video is long as hell

see this thread
thought I'd update this thread to point to another more recent thread: How to disable touchwiz

To be honest, Touchwiz is my favorite UI I've used.
Thats above Sense, MotoBlur, Stock, etc.
Always have been a fan of the color themes, love the lockscreen, the dialer, and even coming to like the ****ty horizontal app drawer.
If Samsung can improve Touchwiz to have the media player and other features that are on the other Galaxies, it would be even better!

I was going to say, it's easy enough to turn off. Yeah, I don't care for it, but it's not a big deal to make the vanilla launcher the default one. You don't have to install or remove anything, or need root.

Sense UI for the nexus?

Would there be a SenseUI available for the N1?
Does HTC have any intention on releasing an official 2.1 N1 rom?
I hate to get it flashed just to find out that the noise canceling or BT dont work.... That was little pain with the MyTouch..
This isn't development . Hopefully, we can keep this dev area cleaner than the Dream's. . .
Why would you want to put SenseUI on a Nexus? That's blasphemy
Why, for the bloat, of course.
I posted in here because I was wondering if anyone will be working on this type of ROM... so it is development related in a way.
SenseUI has WAY better interface than plain android. I love it but it runs sluggish on MyTouch. Obviously the N1 has the hardware to support this and not even flinch.
The new 2.1 SenseUI got leaked for the Hero. I was wondering if someone would be cooking a rom for the N1 with it. =)
But seriously HTC's widgets are the best!!!

to asnwer one part of your question, no, HTC will not be making a senseUI ROM as this is a google experiance phone. Much like the G1 and MT3G, they wont be getting a SenseUI ROM upgrade.

Exactly, I saw him buy it, and off I went. I wonder how many he's selling for Google? lol.
Seriously looking forward to his new creations from this beast.

The sense ui is the bomb. I own the mytouch and have Qteknology's rom installed and although the sense ui is a tad bit slow on it, i REFUSE to go back to the donut ui.
I wish i could find a faster sense rom for my MT3G with full exchange support.
The second i hear N1 has the sense ui i will be all over it.
Not an official one but I would assume that when the Bravo is released it would be pretty easy to port the rom from that over as it's basically the same phone...
hahaha i love how cyanogen has like a flock of followers. tweet "jumping off bridge" and a lot of people would die. yeah actually i couldnt decide whether or not to buy this phone...i had the money but still its a LOT of money and not that big of an upgrade from my g1. dont analyze that comment i know its more amazing in every way its just...i had a hard time deciding if the upgrades / speed was worth $550.
seeing cyanogen get it...kinda put me over the edge...so its coming tomorrow. hahah.
on another note, i feel that cyanogen should finally play with sense/rosie/whatever. i think he stayed away from it on g1 cause it was too slow...but i dont think that will be an issue anymore . so hopefully he includes it...or pieces of it...cause some of their stuff is really cool and would be amazing on this fast phone.

Okay, maybe all of you people just missed the videos of this phone running Android 2.1. I don't understand how you can say Sense UI is better than the 2.1 version that the nexus is running. I mean, live wall papers is enough to get me over the animated widgets. I can't explain it, but I was watching the press conference and what they were doing with the photo gallery was amazing. I like the lock screen on 2.1 better than I do the Sense 2.0 lockscreen. The drag to answer is cool. Just take another look at some of the demo videos. I don't think there is much comparison.
OMG I GOT THE PHONE. and sense is different / better IMO. i havent looked at it in awhile but the widgets were crazy (better than the battery-eating live wallpapers)...and the dialer was definitely better and i dont remember the lockscreen but i think it was cool...idk whenever i used sense i loved it except it was too slow.
I hope I can have Hero's SenseUI on my N1. The new SenseUI for Espresso / 2.1 is quite ugly IMO.
But that is still way better than the vanilla 2.1 UI. No doubt about it

Sorry man. Sense UI is where it's at!
Just think, everything 2.1 can do, Sense can do it better. You can have your cake and eat it too, and then get extra fat on the ice cream and potato chips sitting on the side. Why stop there...
Personally I can't stand Twidroid in comparison to HTC's Peep App, and I love the way home screen looks in comparison to Vanilla Android. Cmon already! Sense Sense Sense it.

It buggy and I think there were things that dont work. Framework has never updated it, so I wouldn't expect any updates to what doesn't work.
I suggest giving cyanogen elb a try, it is the most complete aosp rom we have right now.
Kaosfroyo would be a good choice in the near future for you. In the next rev of kaosfroyo, he will prolly have more of the devices working. Right now all the things like wifi, bluetooth, camera and such arnt working yet.

Yeah, I have tried ELB, I like it, but it is still choppy and not smooth as i would like. yeah, I am waiting for the next rev of kaosfroyo, but i need something to hold me over, i guess i will stay with senseable.
Fresh (should be out very soon) supposedly has an aosp version.
I think the choppiness you describe is inherent with ADWLauncher that is included with CELB. I removed it and went to Launcher Pro. It can be choppy, but the latest update includes memory management that allows you to allocate how much memory the launcher uses. I also disable "wallpaper scroll" and it really brings it a lot closer to a Sense like experience. You could also add the original Android launcher or Launcher2.
Just some thoughts. It is the closest you are going to get to AOSP right now. I'm also waiting for KaosFroyo to get more stable.

I can vouch for this too, ADW on CELB was choppy for me as well. Simply installing LauncherPro fixed that. Other than that CELB has been pretty damn good to me as far as stability goes.
Senseless is good, as far as pure vanilla non Cyanogen roms go, it just hasn't been update in a while. That isn't a bad thing, there really isn't anything that it needs changed.

the devs won't be releasing it here on xda. All the whiny *****y people in their thread pissed them off. They were *****ing bc the dev delayed the promised update bc his truck broke down. Its just a phone. People really need to calm down around here. Eh back on topic, if you want the rom when available, see their blog. Sure their thread will give directions in the op on where to find it, unless they change their minds.

If I may ask...

Do any of the devs prefer Sense?
Im finding more and more "little" things I did not realize were particular to sense (email that doesn't suck harder than a Tijuana Whore on pay day, the lack of Vcard functionality etc).
Problem is, I am loving froyo too
So anyhow I guess more directly I want to know if anyone is working on a sense/froyo

It sounds like you want something like Tainted Vanilla with a Froyo base... Maybe someone will get the motivation to do that. Maybe not. It's not a bad idea.
I personally find AOSP based ROMs to meet my needs, but Sense isn't bad. It just slows things down, and this phone doesn't need to be slowed down.
Another hybrid ROM with the extra speed that Froyo and OCing brings... Hmm. It's something to thing about.
I could honestly care less about the ascthetic parts of sense... In Fact I would kill to see a vanilla rom with HTC mail and contacts only...
I just hoped some of the devs prefered sense.
I know one "dev" that is wanting to start work on a Sense Froyo, but there are some people here that aren't fans of this gentleman so I won't bother mentioning his name. Keep an eye out over at androidforums though.

what sense rom do you use thats snappier and smoother?
what AOSP roms have you used that are slower then sense. . . so i can make sure to not use them. No offense sense rom builders, but i havent had any luck with sense roms. i do love how it looks just slows my already slow enough phone down further.
#1 there always twitching between simple home screen scrolling and app drawer scrolling let alone anything that needs to actually use the CPU
#2 my battery dies much faster with all of those awesome looking widgets
#3 JIT doesn't play too nice with sense making it slightly lose its edge against AOSP roms.
I used to like sense until I started using White Widow... now the only thing I actually miss from Sense is the Facebook contact linking. Everything else seems to have a replacement so far... and often more customizable, which I always enjoy

Thoughts on MIUI Rom

I'm sure I will get flamed but here goes anyway. Everyone is jumping on to the MIUI bandwagon, and yes in my opinion it does have a few cool features, but not enough to win me over. Am I the only one on XDA that kind of dislikes this rom? I've tried to like it but I just can't. I like roms that tend to be more stock anyway, I think modded froyo such as enom's rom and cyanogenmod etc. have all of the features and beauty that I need. I see a lot of people saying think iOS and Android together! If I wanted iOS I would own an iPhone and not a N1.
I understand it is all preference and whatnot, but I can't be the only one who hates the MIUI interface. FM Radio cool! Interface not cool! I know I can install other launchers but to me that kind of defeats the whole purpose of running this rom.
I'm not going to mess with it anymore, I just wanted to give it a chance.
Am I the only one who doesn't care for this rom?

Probably.. I just don't see what the big deal is about this rom. I posted in the general forum so I am allowed to express an opinion/vent a little about a rom thats getting a lot of attention and I personally don't see what all the hype is about.
By the way you did read and reply to my thread.
Yea you're correct in stating that installing other launchers defeats the purpose. I liked it for about a week but went back cyan...now i'm on micromods hybrid...for me the sense roms got me hyped up. If the Mui wasnt iphone'd up then it would actually be really sweet but that whole iphone thing just ruins the experience and awww of having an android device
I agree with you OP. I dont like it at all. Now the fact they made a new UI is cool, but like OP said, if I wanted iOS, I would have bought an iPhone
haha fair enough.
I am not too big on the iphone icons either. However, I do like the lock screen, speed, and the battery life.
Also it isnt as obvious as in cyan, but it does have .flac support and will stop playing music when you disconnect. However it will not play upon reconnecting.

The lock screen is slick. It does seem speedy, I can't confirm battery life only because I wasn't able to use it long enough to really wear on a battery. I do appreciate that there are so many choices with custom roms and the dev team that created this rom has obviously worked hard and it shows. That is the beauty of android, so many choices. It is a very pretty rom no doubt, but I just prefer a more stock type interface.
The MIUI ROM looks nice, but I also prefer a stock, simple look. Im happy to see them pushing the envelope though.
the big hype is because MIUI is a complete overhaul, different than what we are used to. Sometimes a change once in awhile is good, and MIUI is a great change I jump from cyan to MIUI. FM radio, lockscreen, and the UI is amazing, I do prefer different style icons but that's about it
It's a very, very optimized ROM. Battery life, speed, the super-neat toggles in the notification tray. You can just install another launcher and still benefit from all of the above plus the great lock screen, FM radio, and excellent phone/SMS/contact apps.
I Agree, with launcher it's really a nice rom !!
I like the resent part who include a task killer.

Just want to say I tried the port for my Inc, but went back to cm6.
Though I don't feel as if its my flavor of ROM, I do want to say it is very innovative, and probably the first (at least on ROMs for the Inc) of its kind to really truly redesign the interface.
So while I don't use it, I would definitely like to see more transformations of this kind.

Am I the only one who hates this rom?
Sorry for the rant

Well i guess you have a wrong concept of the MIUI rom. It is not because of the launcher ppl like the rom. But because of the tweaks. till now there are no roms to my knowledge where you could change the lockscreen within the android os. ( i am not talking of 3rd party apps like widget locker....., here it's different. it's the native one being modified. ) we havent been able to change native phone and contact.apk, we were just applying themes. but the MIUI is different. Even when you go to settings in the menu, you'll observe how things get snappier and all bouncy. Not to mention the little menu's in the lockscreen ( now being seen in the sense HD), answer&reject mods when receiving calls... and the FM radio which were unknown and still being documented in the xda community. Basically everything has been modifies here, even the mms.apk.
so i guess it is wrong to make such an assumption based only on the launcher which ressembles the iphone. I have been using the MIUI with launcher pro and I had amazing battery life.
If you do not like a rom , just don't use it. Why dont u make another thread saying that rodriguezstyle is too greenish or micromod's roms are too glassy ( sorry chefs , lol . it was just to make my point). or maybe somebody else should start another thread saying i hate stock looking roms! Of course you can come up with all these talks that xda is a community forum, everybody has the right to bla bla bla , democracy.... and you do have the right but it is all about MANNERS and RESPECT here! You do not critise someone's work ( which you are getting for free btw) just because of ur taste!!

HTC Sense features?

Hi again everyone!
This may sound like a stupid question, but I've been reading up on a lot of apps that disables the HTC Sense features (ie. Launcher Pro, Cyanogen ROM, etc).
I'm asking myself this question: What are the features of HTC Sense? What will we be missing if it's disabled? Smooth scrolling? Animations?
I read up on the HTC website but of course it's more marketing than informative *duh!*
Thanks for being patient with me

You'll get smoother animations and transitions between apps, but you can't use any HTC Sense widgets.
Thanks for the response zervic and Product F(RED)!
I just read the link that you provided. In summary, HTC Sense is just a smooth-scrolling, animated user-interface comprising of several applications & widgets for the Android, such as:
# Friend Stream
# Camera
# Gallery (Pictures)
# Calculator
# Calendar
# Desk Clock
# Contacts
# Music (player and library)
# Weather
etc.
That's it! Wonder what the big deal is…
Will anyone convince me I do not want to lose Sense at all?

The two main things that work in Sense but not in CM6/AOSP are Flash Lite and FM Radio. Flash Lite is HTC's proprietary "lite" version of Flash that will allow you to view some of the more basic types of Flash on webpages (but not things like streaming videos or music). It's kind of pointless though because that basically means the only thing you can view are Flash ads... lol. Personally I haven't missed it.
Anyway, there's no need to "convince" you. You should just do a Nandroid backup then install CM6. If you don't like it, just load the backup and you're right back where you started like nothing happened.

I have been meaning to ask this question but I don't want to open another thread so I will ask here.
I am leaning towards making the jump to CM6, but I keep seeing that it has no Flash Lite or Flash 10.
Can you elaborate on that a little more? Does that affect my web browser?
I had the Tilt and that didn't have Flash and web browsing sucked. Will I have to deal with that again? Thanks.

On Sense you can temporary disable Flash Lite through the browser settings, so if you're curious to see what it'd be like, just disable Flash Lite and see if it causes any problems for the sites you usually visit. Personally I don't think you'll miss it.
AOSP > Sense
Freedom > conformity
Sense is just HTCs way of making android their own. Using a rom without sense means you can make android your own instead of the way HTC thinks you want it. Samsung and Motorola both have their own versions as well (I'm sure others do too, but those are the only two I've others I've used. I personality prefer the extra customization you can achieve with an ASOP based rom. If that's not important then theres no reason not to stick with the stock sense ui.

The Aria is incapable of flash 10.
Hmm… Now I'm just speechless. I don't know what to say. Guess the best way is to flash different ROMs and try them out myself and see which ones I like best.
Thanks for participating people!

Not exactly. Adobe has designed Flash for Android to rely on an instruction set that is not supported by the Aria's processor. It would still be possible for Adobe to create another version of Flash that WOULD work on Aria in the future (for the sake of expanding Flash support to more devices), although to date they haven't really given any indication that they would do that. I just wanted to point out that there is some hope still, although I wouldn't call myself optimistic.

Yes, but the Aria's processor isn't fast enough for smooth playback anyways.
I had a stock Aria with Sense for several months and loved every bit of it...then I flashed Cyongenmod and I love it even more. Somethings arent as "pretty" as with sense but you get the added benefit of making it look the way you want. The level of customization is incredible and I dont miss Sense at all.
For those that miss the Sense weather/clock on the home screen, Just Google "Fancy Widget"...its exactly the same thing but without the cool weather animation thing that you get after unlocking from the lock screen. I think it was pulled from the market, but you can still find it. I have the apk if you cant.
Just do what others have said. Nandroid back up your current ROM, flash a new one and see how you like it for a few weeks. If you dont, go back to your old ROM. Its super easy.

It's fancy widget 1.30. Don't say you're going to offer out because that's part piracy. Pointing them in the right direction isn't breaking any rules though.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I tested out Sense without flash and the only site I really go to (a NBA forum) had problems because they usually post youtube videos of dunks or other plays embedded in the threads and they wouldn't show up. That sucks.
But I have seen so many really amazing customizations in the Home Screens thread that I will probably go to CM6. One more final on Monday and then I can get to messing around with my phone.
I just love what people have done with Clockr. And the sense weather animations are cool so I will miss those.
I guess you're right "Product F(RED)". It took me awhile to find it and I would like to provide it to anyone who is looking, but I see what you're saying and maybe its not a good idea. On another note, I did a little bit of research and the guys who made the one that was pulled have made a new one (still called Fancy Widget) that is on the market. It looks pretty nice and has a lot of features, but does not have the "flip clock" design that I like so much.
