[Lost Nexus] There is yet hope! Nexus just on Wifi? - Nexus One General

Yep, thats the bad news today folks.
After loosing it I am forced to call on my insurance and get a new one. Now thats all well and good, but due to recent financial problems I am going to have to instead stick it on ebay.co.uk and flog it for as much as I can.
Just wanted to say bye to you Nexus folk....
If anyone wants to buy it off me instead let me know. Is UK model, fully unlocked of course.
I am now going to go cry a little....

Pffssh... financial troubles? You have TWO kidneys, right?

LoL You have TWO kidneys ONE Nexus You've to decide

--: UPDATE :--
Right, that lost phone I had... HAS NOW BEEN FOUND!
However, I now have a problem. I now have 2 Nexi (that the plural?). However, the one that I lost has been black listed and wont work with a Sim inside, but does work as an ipod touch would. Just miles better as its awesome.
So my question is this, can I live with my nexus one just having Wifi? And whats the best way to go about with this. I could really do with the extra £400 odd selling my unboxed Nexus will get me. However, I wonder if I got a cheap phone just for calls and texts, if I could get my Wifi Nexus to work just like having a call capable nexus would be? Is it going to be to much of a compromise?
Cheers,

Sell your phone to someone in the US. They don't blacklist them here.

That... that right there is an Idea.... Never thought of that.
Means I get a brand new Nexus AND Money for my other nexus... You are a genius!

isnt it fraud if you got your insurance money but then "find" your lost/stolen phone?

Well when I found it, I called up my provider... but the guy on the line said just to keep it. Had to pay a big excess, so maybe thats why.
EDIT: Maybe thats why I never thought of selling it abroad... I do think that is illegal. But my excess was like £300 for it... almost not worth it... >_>. Will just stick with using it as a wifi device I think.

Well, you could use it as a VOIP phone...

ill buy it!! let me know how much u want for it, in USD

does the nexus one have wireless N? most new phones have that.
edit: found out that it doesn't

You can get the phone un-blacklisted, just call your provider. They may need a letter from your insurance company.
If you have one to sell, new or blacklisted, pm me with an amount in sterling or euro.

Want to buy the nexus off this site but..

Hi i want to buy the nexus one off this site http://www.cellplususa.com/ but idk if its creditable site or its a scam. I can't find any info from it and I found the site on craiglist. Have you had experience with this site and do you think I should buy? The phone there is only 450.
couldn't find anything on it at resellersratings.com so not so sure it's a legit site.
Here is my suggestion on this:
Ok, research shows that they have not been in business for long at all (like under a week or so).
For this reason, you won't find any information on them.
Are they reputable? Hard to say, but things that would keep ME from buying from them is that their website has absolutely NO contact information at all.
They also don't tell you if the phone is NEW, Refurbished or used. How they are selling them for so much less is beyond me because, as far as I know, Google is not wholesaling them to ANYONE. The only legit way to get it new is through Google's shop.
Just my $0.02...
Ebay is the way...
Hey Sasha
Buy it from Ebay and to make sure its a good deal - go with sellers using PayPal as the payment method.. And if you are lucky - You can actually make a good deal thru ebay...
Good luck... Its a cool phone - Nexus One kicks ass.. ;-)

Yeah i know its a awesome phone but ebay prices are more expensive than google!
lol "on sale" yeah ok.
DO NOT buy from there.
What does common sense tell you?
Tells me this site is 100% scam. I love the $10 COD option, though, with a same day delivery guarantee. Someone should test it out!
Sure... But..
The chance to find the phone to the same price as on the google-site will probaly not be easy.. Everyone wants to make money - so you can look everywere - You probaly won't find it anywhere to the same price..
You can make good deals on Ebay trust me..
But good luck with your search

Unless they're using the "loophole" someone else posted about to get the phone for $372 then reselling it for $450.
Do not buy that from that site.

Not enough of a profit margin to make it work TBH, and also, a pain in the but way to get their supply since they will have to get a LOT of people to open and account to get the phone just to cancel.
Either way, I say stay away.

If you guys missed this...
There were people in Hong Kong, one of the four countries (wait...Hong Kong is...whatever) got the head start, complaining that when they received their DHL package it was empty inside. So would there be any chance that some people took those phones and sell them damn cheap...?

Not sure about that, but like I said in my original reply, there is NO contact information on the site whatsoever, who would you call if there was an issue?
Also, if those people that had their go missing reported it, Google could Black-List the ESN's and they would be worthless.
SO not worth the risk...
I bought 2 phones from them
Back in Dec. I bought 2 iphones from cellplususa. I didnt have any issues, in fact im using the phone right now.

I'm sorry guys..

SO i went to T-mobile yesterday to check my bill and saw the HD2 and couldn't resist so i bought it... Phone is cool, huge screen, hard buttons, soooo nice.......but i hate it lol. I can not stand windows mobile. Phone was giving me a headache. I tried to force myself to like it but couldn't so i put it on craigslist for $500 because it's sold out in my city. But i'll most likely try to return it tomorrow if I can. I mean I have all the accessories but none of the baggies for them so I'll call first
Save your sorrys and go sit in the corner and think about what you did! Lol jkjk the phone is madd sexy but I just told one of my friends to buy it so i could play with it. Never would I ever dare resort to WM again.

They will probably just refund whatever you put down. I am not sure if they will charge you a restocking fee, we all know HTC/Google charges a fee ($45) if the Nexus was opened and then returned.
tsk tsk shame on you!! naw im just kidding i find myself going to the tmobile store to play with it every few days ahah..well not play since windows mobile is a headache but just to hold it lol..it is really really sexy..
i kind of want to buy it just so i can try windows mobile 7..hopefully they get that android port going, but by that time ill have the Evo 4g so im good Im so stoked on that thing but i do love my nexus one its really nice looking

Thinking bout keeping just for Windows 7 hmmmmm
i wanna give it a try but im not gunna give up my nexus. lol..i really love this phone. if i were you i would try and return it or sell it and save the money so when a win7 phone comes out then you can get it but it is tempting knowing the hd2 could get it first.
I don't blame you.
I got the HTC Touch Pro 2 when it came out because I loved the Tilt, and the Fuze.
But, I hate Windows Mobile. Hate it, hate it, hate it.
They have some good chiefs over there, but they just can't make it a good phone.
If there was a way to get Android ported 100% to it; I'd ditch my N1 and get it right now. But they are having issues with the port.
EDIT: Also; WinMobile 7 is going to suck. I've heard that it is going to be locked down like the iPhone... So, what a wonderful failure that will be.

What do you think is a decent price

Nexus S Supply/Demand

What do you think it is going to be like on the 16th? When BestBuy says stuff like this
There will be no pre-orders on the Nexus S. Units will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis on launch day. We will use a ticketing system much like we do on Black Friday to allocate inventory and keep the process organized.

it worries me I mean because Id hate to be without a phone until I found an NS..I have 3 Bestbuys within 20 minutes of me and are pretty sure even if the demand is high enough for them to need to use a ticketing system. or maybe the supply is low? But either way If i have to wake up at 7AM to be there when they open I will
Just curious as to what you all think?
I am not worrying about it. People here seem not very into those modern toys. There are two Bestbuys nearby. I guess I'll just drop by when I wake up.

I think there will be a VERY tiny amount of people that actually know / are ready to buy the Nexus-S on it's debut date but one of the smart guys on here suggested going to a best buy that doesn't sell T-mobile handsets in order to increase your chances.
I'd say you would def be able to get your phone on the day of launch though

True, very true, good points. It wouldn't surprise me to see a TV advertisement since Google made that commercial with the view were your looking at the persons feet the whole time.
Im sure they will seeing as the N1 was a "marketing failure" but i really hope we dont end up seeing every other person with a NS...thats why i loved the N1, very unique
Personally, I think your chances of grabbing one are good. It seems to be very similar to the galaxy line, and if samsumg sold 3 million in the us, I know those folks won't be ready to shell out $600.00 four months later.

Did you read their FAQ? They stated that they are currently spreading the news among all Best Buys. It just takes time and if the manager of the stores don't tell the employees, then expect to hear that from the employees.
The Nexus S doesn't have the popularity of the iPhone, so I'd assume supply/demand will just be fine. Possibly, a Best Buy located in a populated area would get more in stock than those that aren't. Just my guess.

Ive been on the phone with Best Buy/NExus S Call center since 10 AM PST and up until 4PM I was told that they have no information that they can tell me. But then on one of my batches of calls they all told me the same thing, 157 Best Buy stores/Best buy mobile will be getting them.
But i was also told buy one of the reps, who i talked to for a good 45 minutes about the subject that they get new information every day and i should continue calling them because they give out info as they get it
He says that by the 14th they should have information as to what stores will be getting the NS.
Take it for what its worth, thats just the info i got from them . Just doing some digging of my own but i will be calling to see if there is anything new they can tell me and ill keep you guys updated if anything
You know, I really don't think it'll be out of stock. You should be able to get a piece easily.

[Q] how to get a nexus s 4g?

So I have seen from several people around the thread that they were able to get a Nexus S 4g as a replacement for their OG EVo. I was wondering what would be some specific reasons to receive this replacement or what I would need to say to tech support.
Thanks
I'm wondering this as well.
i just bought one for $220 on Craigslist. now i have the evo and the nexus. best of both worlds!
You must meet these four criteria
1 be on a replacement..at least once
2 convince them that you can not leave the house for a period of time...i said I was sick and couldn't leave the house
3 the phone had problems that are mostly specific to gingerbread...ex force closes and random reboots
4 say you've talked to a manager and they said a nexus s could be a replacement

Not true. I simply went to a.service center because of problems with a charging port. They checked it out and verfied it was bad. When they went to order a replacement the nexus s came up as an option so I took it. Take this forewarning, signal on the nexus is horrible, even with the 2.3.5 update.

Just called Sprint today and got them to send me a Ns4G. All I did was explain to them how terribly unhappy I was with my EVO since the GB update. I might have exaggerated a few issues but they hooked me with the nexus and a nib at that! The "adavanced" tech support guy told me they have gotten tons of complaints about the EVO since the update. He also mention that another update was going to offered for the nexus starting on the 5th, said it was supposed to resolve the radio and battery issues......anyone hear of that? Anyway, since I have had bad reception since the GB update for my evo, I guess I might still have to deal with that......oh well, at least I'll have root again!

Because it's a total douche move of Sprint and HTC to lock the gingerbread bootloader. The Evo is the phone that made sprint relevant, and now for whatever reason a year into its lifespan it becomes LESS moddable instead of more? I approve of the action of trying to dump the evo based on this alone. They have to learn that these devices are ours to mess with, not theirs to lock down.

I agree with you in that usually the answer is don't be a freeloader and just buy the stuff you want. But consider this analogy: I buy a used car, and it worked fine, then I modified it by giving it good tires, suspension, engine upgrades, and made it completely my own. I don't expect the car to be under warranty at all because I've now made it my own, but I do have insurance. My car is crashed into, insurance replaces my car. But now, for some god damn reason when I get the car back, every bolt has a lock on it that I can't get the keys for. I BOUGHT this car originally, but now I can't modify it the way I like, when originally I very specifically went out and bought this kind of car because I CAN modify it? You can't sell someone something, then change what that something is.
A lot of us bought evos because we can modify them. And **** happens, phones get lost and dropped and whatever, that's why we have insurance. But the new evos that they get replaced with do not have the functionality that we want them to have. And they're being replaced with ****ty rebuilt evos, the worst of all worlds. So I see no problem with wanting something comparable, IF you're paying for the insurance and they're replacing the insured device with something that has less functionality. So I do very much agree, that scamming Sprint to get a free new phone is very shady and scummy. But if the product being replaced is less functional than the original, I see no problem with a "side-grade," a comparable device that costs them no more money to replace than the original device, being that they sell for the same amount. Ya feel me?

Listen, I'm not saying I'm not upset with HTC about it.
I can't get my phone repaired [usb failure] because I want to maintain root.
However, just because HTC did something like this doesn't justify scamming Sprint.

You cannot possibly be an adult. Grow the **** up kids, no one promised you that the Evo would have an unlocked bootloader. The phone is yours to mess with once you buy it and HTC and Sprint won't stop you. But it's Sprint's supply chain, they can buy it from HTC whichever way they want to, locked down or not & you agreed to allow them to send updates to your phone when you signed that contract. It's your choice to buy it as is or to take the OTA update. Live with it or buy a new phone.

The bootloader has always been locked. HTC just patched the exploit

He also mention that another update was going to offered for the nexus starting on the 5th, said it was supposed to resolve the radio and battery issues......anyone hear of that? Anyway, since I have had bad reception since the GB update for my evo, I guess I might still have to deal with that......oh well, at least I'll have root again!
ahhhhhh.......going todash.........

This isn't a bad reception thing. The radios in the Nexus are generally bad, ridiculously bad: WiFi, 3G, voice, all of them are terrible. Its a sweet phone but the signal issues are quite sad and makes it rather frustrating to use the phone. The July 25th update was supposed to address these issues as well and from my experience it is no better. Signal quality is a known issue for the Nexus and it is the poor quality antennas and radios that Samsung uses that makes me question their devices as a whole. I'm just happy I also have my E3D so that I can actuall get a signal when using my phone.

Listen, I'm not saying I'm not upset with HTC about it.
I can't get my phone repaired [usb failure] because I want to maintain root.
However, just because HTC did something like this doesn't justify scamming Sprint.

I'm not talking about scamming sprint at all, I'm talking about a comparable replacement. I very much love Sprint and their customer service has been excellent; I misspoke when I blamed them and didn't think about the fact that they are not to blame, HTC is.
That being said, the NS4G goes for a very similar price. Also, I'm talking about legitimate cases of loss or theft in which it's not my fault that the phone, set up the way I like it, is gone. Then the phone is replaced with, at best, a non-unlockable version, and at worst, a ****ty rebuilt replacement with screen issues or crappy USB ports, etc. Why should I, the customer who is paying for the insurance, be supplied with a lesser phone? It would be Asurion replacing my phone, not Sprint, but because they are so disconnected it makes things difficult. I would simply want the phone I lost to be replaced because I'm paying for insurance. They should provide me with what I'm paying to insure, not some weird new less functional device. Again, Asurion, not Sprint. Sprint has only been good to me thusfar.

I know this is the way it is, but just because something is some way doesn't mean I should have to live with it or not try to change things. I won't bore you with tales of history in which we have changed the norm to suit society better, nor am I under the delusion that being stuck in a lame contract is as heavy as the idea of slavery or bigotry. But I don't make a habit of sitting idly by and getting screwed over by large companies just because they told me I had to. I'm sure at least those of us who are over 25 on here work very hard for their money (I do), and I don't like being jerked around based on the whim of a corporation. I very much understand what you are saying, and I'm not under the impression that Sprint and the hacker community are pals and that they're backing out on a promise. I'm just saying, I don't see the issue with swapping to an extremely comparable phone IF your phone is already lost/stolen/destroyed, you're on insurance, and you simply prefer to have the other option. Same as if I felt like going to the Samsung Epic. Very similar phones, they're already replacing it, why does it have to be the same phone, especially when the same phone simply isn't the same anymore?
EDIT: Also fellas, I'm not intentionally being challenging with either of you or being argumentative for the sake of trolling or whatever, I'm legitimately just enjoying a robust debate on a lazy Tuesday evening. Thank you for the discussion guys
I choose not to commit insurance fraud myself. Let's remember that OS developers have an obligation to patch exploits. We are not guaranteed a rooted device unless you buy a dev phone.

Asurion only handles the replacements when a deductible is paid, otherwise it's Sprint.
Also, all carriers use Asurion for their replacement insurance.
It's not Sprint's fault that HTC patched a hole in their bootloader security, therefore it's not fair for them to lose out on money.
If Sprint gives you a different model just because of a software update that does nothing but, essentially, increase the security of the phone....well...they lose out and that's just not a viable reason for them to lose out.
Root will be achieved, it sucks I know but, relax.

Well this is the unfortunate grey area, and an oversight on my part... apologies, didn't mean to simplify too much. However, I did buy the phone because of the exploit, this is why I didn't go with a different phone. My side of this is a hard one to defend; surely patching the exploit was considered a security issue. But they had to have known what they were doing, which I can never prove, so my case would never hold up in a court of law, and I know this. It just irritates me and I fear the day that I lose my phone or it gets stolen because I'll be stuck with a crappy, half-assed gingerbread updated Evo, which seems wrong to me.

i hit the jackpot!!!!

Found a guy selling a pixel XL on Craigslist for 580$ I went right away to pick it up!!! Brand new never opened! From Google. I was like no way!!!
Nice. Just make sure the IMEI is valid. If it is that is a fantastic deal! :good:

Had an iPhone in his hand... Lol
I hope you verified the IMEI before paying. If stolen, you just bought a 580 dollar paper weight. If the deal sounds too good to be true, it often is.
Let us know if you can activate it. I hope you can and actually did get a great deal.

Doesn't it take time to black list a device? Why sell a $840 phone for $580 when you can return it or use credit card protection (return anything within 90 days for full refund)

Exactly. Looks like he found one of the phones "lost" in the mail that people never received. LOL. It's totally stolen. The clock is ticking.
Or he got the phone for little of nothing.... I bought my note 7 from a guy in craigslist that worked for Verizon. He used his employee discount, traded in an old phone. He gave me the receipt and this full only paid $159 for a brand
New note 7 lol. There's deals to be had out there, don't try and ruin my man's day with your scepticism and negativity
Prepare your butthole OP. A guy on Reddit bought one for $950 or so, and it got blacklisted.

It's not skepticism and negativity, it's realistic thinking. Anyone who sells a phone at hundreds of dollars of a loss would have to be a complete idiot, filthy rich, or a thief - thief is most likely by far. OP is probably in for a bad surprise soon. Your situation was different because he had the receipt. If OP had the receipt, he'd have gotten a great deal.
He probably financed it then will say he lost it and wont have to pay it off anymore and it will get blacklisted.
Guy did have a receipt for you guys information the phone is sealed and it was never opened.

Yeah I can see. The guy clearly said he is not an Android used it and bought thinking he would try it but dint even bothered
Its a done deal, all you can do is hope for the best. There are good deals like this or even better. Long ago when the Htc rezound came out with beats headphones I snagged it on ebay for $199 right when it came out. The woman said she went back to her iphone and just wanted the $199 she paid to upgrade to it. This was when buying the phone was $600 out right. So deals are to be had, but yes there are people selling then claim lost or stolen and get another or out of paying for them or dont pay their bill and it goes to collection which the carrier does blacklist the imei.
Yes it sucks you cant really trust anyone when it comes to buying phones.

So he immediately took an almost $300 loss on a device he never opened. That doesn't sound made up at all. Anyone with a printer can produce a receipt. Do I hope you got the best deal in the world, yes I do. But chances are much more stacked against you. I myself would be worried to even have a stolen device that can easily be tracked in my possession. But I guess you just wait and see at this point. Either its not stolen and the guy is a moron, or you bought a hot phone. Let's hope it's not the latter. I just don't see why he would sell it so cheap on craigslist and take a loss. The Pixel XL 32gb is starting at $899 on eBay and other quick buy sites since Google is having a hard time filling orders. I've seen the 128 listed at 1400. It's a high value item. No one would sell it that cheap unless they wanted to offload it quick and had no real profit margin. And craigslist is the best place for selling stolen goods.
