Battery Drain Right After Removal from Charger - Droid X General

I have this issue where I get a battery 10% battery drain within the first half hour of removing my phone from the wall charger. However, after that initial drop, the phone stabilizes and I'm discharging 10% every two hours or so, which seems very reasonable.

I've gone through the apps in SystemPanel and nothing I've found accounts for this daily anomaly. Any thoughts as to what this may be?

I believe the battery decrements are in the 10% scale, meaning, it goes from 100% to 90% to 80%. It doesn't do 99%, 98%, 97%.....etc. So when it jumps to 90% as you are saying, it is most likely at 95% or so, maybe a bit less or more, can't really tell.
That's what I have noticed anyway.....maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Mine does the exact same thing.

That makes sense. Thanks.

How do the 10% increments work? Rounded? Truncated?
Does 90% mean 99 to 90?
Or 94 to 85?

You know...after rethinking this, your explanation doesn't make sense. If we go by this logic, when the phone reaches 89-85%, the display should read 80%. However, that's not happening based on the amount of time it takes the phone to display 80.
If we follow this logic, if the phone reads 0% it cold actually be at 9%.
I'd be willing to bet the phone displays the increments of 10 once it reaches that threshold.

I believe once it reaches the low threshold (25% I believe, not sure though) the decrements change to 5% from 10%....that's what I remember seeing anyway.......just let your battery go really low and see what happens.
I am trying that right now to see if I am remembering correctly.
I am guessing 80% means 81-89%, but I really don't know what scheme Motorola is using to represent battery reserve. Someone has to know, and hopefully they chime in.

You don't expect it to stay at 100% all the time do you? That would just be insane!!!
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

I am sure no one expects the battery to stay at 100% all the time......but I think we all do, at least I personally expect the read out to be more accurate......there is no reason why the increments shouldn't be 1% instead of 10%.
EDIT:
I didn't notice if the readout went from 30% to 25% to 20% or 30% to 20%, but I did see that it went from 20% to 15%....so at some point the decrements change to 5% instead of 10%.
I've attached a screenshot of my phone:

Yes. That's exactly what I'm saying. You have perfectly interpreted my comments and distilled their essence. I expect the battery to remain at 100% for all eternity once it has reached full charge.

Is the % derived from the voltage? Because just looking at it manually, the voltage jumps around (especially when plugged in/out). I've seen the same voltage # with 100% and with 90%, so there has to be some additional logic.
In any case, it would be good to know if 20% is really 29 or 16. That's a 2x difference.

You can try using "Battery Left Widget" from the market, it's free. It does 1% increments and decrements.
It uses algorithms to calculate the battery reserve as you use charge and discharge your battery and gets more accurate as you go along. You want the bar to be full green and not have any red under the "Accuracy" tab.
Screenshot of battery reading (Note: I still have a lot of red on the accuracy bar):

Sorry to go off topic but does anyone know which weather clock widget is in the above picture?

It's called "Moxier World" but I switched to "WF & Clock widget", I like it better.

How much battery is used for you with continous usage of 30min/1hr?

Just trying to get a feel if my battery is normal or not.
With continuous internet usage over wifi, it takes up 30%/hr on the STOCK battery.
With the Sprint OEM Extended battery (2600mah), it only takes up 10-12%/hr.
So I'm wondering if my stock battery just sucks or if the Sprint extended battery is actually more around 3500mah...

I was just browsing the forums here for an hour and 44 minutes - little g reader too - and the first hour recorded roughly 11 percent of battery loss with straight use, shown in juice plotter. Screen brightness at lowest and wifi.
That said if I was popping tabs left and right and jumping around in the browser it would be a bit different. I think I was on Deadspin for maybe 15 minutes though. Dolphin Mini.
SWYPED from my SUPASONIC
I'm getting about 15% an hour on mikfroyo (undervolted htc 15). that's about what I used to get on older build roms (evio) and stock kernels.

Well, guess I enabled wifi after 20 minutes or so. Between 20-25 percent in 2 hours 10 min didn't have a full charge. Just started using juice plotter to track how little battery gets used when phone idle. Cool little app! Always so late to the party.

wifi strength is excellent, i'm only 8 ft from the source (in my room). i keep the screen brightness at the lowest setting since i lay in bed and use the phone before i sleep for about 30 min.
i'm extremely surprised at the drainage of both yours with just the stock battery. maybe i should try and get an exchange through Sprint.
some more info on your setup? maybe it's a software issue. try system panel to see what's running and how much it's been running. it also gives you cpu speed which should throttle back when there is no interaction with the device.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
i'm on Fresh 3.5.0.1 with the SBC kernel. I don't have any weird drainage issues over night, i sleep with it at 80% and wake up with it with about a <5% drop. I just have the usual apps running, nothing too crazy. All I use the phone for really is to browse the web.
I find that System Panel doesn't reallly help too much when i had a weird drainage issue a few months back, a hard data reset fixed that.

I wouldn't say meaningless. i.e. 10% drain from a 1500 mAh battery is 150 mA no matter how you slice it.

No it's not. It wouldn't be even on most Li-ion batteries in the first place, but even more so on the Evo. The firmware is programmed to oscillate between ~ 500mA and -500mA depending on voltage, all while keeping the status you see at 100%. Download Battery Monitor Widget to see this in action.

I think all it does is refresh the battery checker, doesn't really affect the battery.
I did this and it lasted just as long if shorter than if you don't do it.
Im on my second Epic. Both have had problems reading the correct battery life.
well it works great for me... i kno the batt stats dont show right but if it thinks its gonna die it will no matter what charge is left, maby all this does is put the right charge% back on the screen...idk... but its a noticeable diff on life for me... especially after flashing something in cwm

Ya I know bout that already, & I've did that a long time ago lol my phone was unplugged @ 9am its now 545 & I'm @ 77% & when its about to die I will do this lil trick & bam 10% turns into 30% or more...

Here's another way,
With your phone turned on plug it into a charger. Wait until the blue light turns on. It may read 97%, if so, wait another 15 minutes.
Once the charge reaches about 97%, the blue light turns on and the charge current switches to slow charge. It will charge to 100%, and then cycle between about 96% and 100%.
So, follow the OPs instructions or do nothing.
You,know.... That's one thing that hor (htc) got right. All htc phones charge at a rate of 1% per 1 minute. On our epics, its about 1% per hour. Hor.

I can't believe how good the battery has been so far, 84% after 13hours (over night)
I am a light user. still - that is impressive for stock. I never got close to that with my OG Epic on stock which was usually 3% per hour.

Not too bad for first day with moderate to heavy use!
This is heavy usage. Screen on time of 3.5 hours. Downloading Max Payne and a lot of apps. Downloading and listening to audio on Google chrome. Lots of Pulse usage. Games, YouTube, and 30 minutes of phone calls.

I wish I could get some stats like that. The screenshots are while I was sleeping and 7% seems like a lot of drain for it just sitting there. Only thing on was wifi. Cell standby time on is always the same as the time on battery, is that normal?
edit: the phone now shows 79% battery left with time on battery of 12h 46m; cell standby the exact same; screen on at 9% with time on of 48m. I'm fully stock and running power save mode.

No, they will carry over until you re-charge or change the battery.
I was going to make a thread like this, but it was already here! Here are my results after my second full charge and regular usage. The results are on par with my fully modified and decked out Epic. Of course, this device has a bigger battery, but it also has a larger screen. Between the hardware and software upgrades, I'm very impressed with the stock battery life. This includes wifi on at all times as well as signal w/data. Some motion features are enabled, nfc is not, and google sync is off (I use stock email). Now how much further can this be improved?? Remember not to be discouraged, Screen On times will vary depending on what the phone is used for. Showing pictures is much less battery intensive than watching YouTube videos.

No one else will have a clue as to what happened either unless you give more information than that screenshot .
ROM? Min/Max frequencies? Governor? Did the phone feel extremely hot during those 38 minutes? Did you try a reboot? What happened after you recharged it? Same or better battery life?
I didn't even know it was possible to eat through the entire battery in under an hour. Seems like it might be a messed up battery and/or battery calibration thing. If you want more information than in that screenshot, you can try installing BetterBatteryStats

I'm thinking it was just a fluke... I woke up, did some browsing, ran a timer (hence the screen-on time), got in the car to go to work and "14% remaining" popped up. I rebooted a few times to see if it was just reporting incorrectly --- but it had actually drained.
Typically I pull ~13 hours, ~3 of screen-on, and ~7 of Pandora. I'm more than satisfied with battery.... normally. It seems to have gone back to around that level after a recharge, but I'll know for sure tomorrow.
Battery was fine today. Sitting at 23 hours on ~130% battery (some slight charging halfway through), 20% remaining, 3.5 hours of screen, and 7 hours of Pandora.
I guess my phone had a case of the Mondays.... on a Tuesday.
Most likely had something go wrong with the battery stats.
I had it happen before. I knew my device was around 30 percent battery life. I hooked up to the charger and in less than 5 minutes it said 100 percent. So it would charge further.
Drained the battery fully and quickly of course like the op and fully charged. Haven't had it happen again though.
The battery reporting on the nexus is pretty bad

I am in China and thanks a lot to our Great Firewall, maybe it is the reason that my phone is constantly awake. But normally, it will consume 10% of the power during the whole night. The discharge curve is almost a line with a -15 slope.

Your geographic location has nothing to do with it, and when the battery is healthy a normal drain is between 0.2 and 0.4%/h. This means that overnight you should expect a drain of 3-4% after 9 hours. If your phone continues to shut down by itself I'd say your battery is the culprit... especially if upon boot it shows a different percentage than when it shut down. Check your battery health first, and if it is OK ( say >85-90%), then install a battery drain app to find any wakelock, process or app keeping your phone awake. BBS or GSam are two.
Me too
It happens to me too.
Today my phone switched off when it was near 30%.
This behavior started with the last update to Android 7.1.2 .

Agreed- and also why the battery is suspect. You neglected to show your Health tab which is where the estimated capacity is. No need to post another attachment, just tell us what the capacity is. If your phone keeps shutting down and dropping to zero, I would replace the battery anyway. Lucky for you the part is made in China and easy to obtain.

The capacity in Health tab is > 80%. The problem in China is we have too many batteries which claim to be original part, the price vary from several US dollars to 20 dollars. I bought a 5 dollars one and replaced the old one the week before last week, it is not easy. Now the capacity is almost 101%, the duration is longer than the old one, 10 -15% percent max.
And there was one time it shutdown itself several days after the replacement.
